FOREST SWEATT

Forest Sweatt, 83, of Colebrook, died on Saturday afternoon, January 27, 2007 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown.

He was born on August 23, 1923 in Columbia, son of the late Hollis and Nettie (Amey) Sweatt. Mr. Sweatt attended schools locally, and then began to work for many years in the woods and wood products industry. He worked successively for the Stratford Mills, which was later bought by the Brown Company. While with the Brown Company, Mr. Sweatt worked as a crane operator, and later he served as an equipment operator and truck driver for Washburn Lumber and later the WeLog company.

Mr. Sweatt leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Virginia (Edwards) Sweatt of Colebrook; three sons, Dennis Sweatt and his wife Hedda of Greenland, Van Sweatt and his wife Alison of Durham, and Frederick Sweatt and his wife Miriam of Stratford; a brother, Stewart Sweatt of Columbia; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Sweatt was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

At the family's request, there are no calling hours. A graveside interment service will be held at a later date, at the family lot in the Colebrook Village Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. HOWARD BROOKS

Howard B. Brooks, 80, of Columbia, died early on Tues-day morning, April 3, 2007 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday at the North Hill Church, with The Reverend Randall Scheri officiating. An interment service with military honors will be held in the spring at the Stewartstown Hollow Cemetery.

CLARA DURETTE

Clara E. (Drake) Durette, 85, of Columbia and formerly of Laconia, died peacefully on April 1, 2007 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital.

She was born on October 4, 1921 in Laconia, daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy (Lindsley) Drake, and was married to Oliver I. Durette in October, 1939.

Mrs. Durette is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Oliver I. Durette of Columbia; a son, Arthur Durette of Columbia; a daughter, Norma Boughton and her husband Michael of Gilmanton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by a son, Ronald Durette; and numerous siblings. At Mrs. Durette's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia. Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Durette's memory may be made to the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, c/o Kim Daley, Corliss Lane, Colebrook, NH 03576.

BERTHA LANGFORD

Funeral service for Bertha Marston Langford, 94, of Raymond, N.H., and Edgewater, Fla., died at her home in Edgewater on March 29, 2007.

She was born in Melrose, Mass., the daughter of Blanche and Frank Tyler Marston, on July 31, 1912. She was raised in Pepperell, Mass., and was graduated from Pepperell High School. Bertha had been a winter resident of Edgewater since 1967, and moved there permanently 15 years ago from Raymond.

Bertha was a 75-year member of the Prescott Grange in Newmarket, past president of the Raymond Garden club, Mothers Club, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Eastern Star, and has been an active member of the New Smyrna Beach Council on Aging for the past 20 years. She ran her own beauty shops, helped manage her husband's Edgewater Launderette for 10 years, was an active member of the Republican party and worked for several government officials, including former New Hampshire senator Norris Cotton.

Survivors include her six children, Beverly (Royal) Clement of Rye, Ted (Esther) Langford of Columbia, Frank (Wanda) Langford of Raymond, Marylyn (Jerry) Kidder of Laconia, and Donald (Debbie) Langford and Anita (David) Haskill of Edge-water; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a nephew and several cousins; many friends; and a longtime companion, Bill Pruden.

Her husband of 52 years, New Hampshire state senator Calvin J. Langford, predeceased her in February of 1985.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at the First United Methodist Church in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., officiated by the Rev. Robert C. Brown, pastor of Coronado Community United Methodist Church. Calling hours were held on Tuesday evening at the Settle-Wilder New Smyrna Beach Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Langford's memory to the American Heart Association, Florida Affiliate Volusia/Flagler, 555 West Granada Boulevard, Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.

EVELYN SCOTT

Evelyn M. Scott, 68, of Groveton, died on Sunday evening, April 1, 2007 at Havenwood Heritage Heights Healthcare Center.

She was born in West Stewartstown on December 12, 1938, a daughter of the late Leonard and Lila (Alger) Potter. Raised in the Lancaster area, she moved to Holyoke, Mass., in the 1950s and raised her family as a dedicated homemaker. Her family was very important to her, and she always kept them close to her heart. Evelyn moved back to Lancaster in 1982 and later to Groveton, and she enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by three sons, Sam E. Palmer of Derry, Thomas Palmer of Westfield, Mass., and Keith Palmer of Bowling Green, Fla.; three grandchildren; four sisters, Lois Potter, Charlene Potter and Edna Crandell, all of Groveton, and Jacqueline Halveson of Bismark, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel E. Scott Sr.; by a son, David Palmer; and a sister, Juanita Sanford.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 6 at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Derry, with cremation to follow.

KATHERINE BRUNELLE

Katherine E. Brunelle, 37, of Campton, died on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at her home.

Miss Brunelle was born in Texas City, Texas, on July 21, 1970, the daughter of Carl R. and Caryl Annis (Poynter) Brunelle. She was graduated from Mascenic Regional High School in New Ipswich and attended Plymouth State University in Plymouth. She was a graduate of the 108th Police Academy in Concord on July 1, 1996.

Miss Brunelle lived in Dixon, Texas, New Ipswich and Woodstock before moving to Campton three years ago. In 1994 she began her career as a part-time police officer and dispatcher for the Lincoln Police Department. In 1995 she was a patrol officer for the Ashland Police Department and was then hired by the Woodstock Police Department.

She also worked as an investigator for the New Hampshire Liquor Commission and returned as a patrol sergeant for the Woodstock Police Department. She was a drug recognition expert and instructor. She won numerous "Looking Beyond the Traffic Ticket" awards and was considered by her peers to be a consummate professional and a true credit to her profession.

She served in the Army, and was a member and current president of the Lincoln-Woodstock Rotary Club. She loved animals, especially her two dogs.

The family includes her father, Carl Brunelle of Stratford; a brother, Christopher Brunelle of Campbellsville, Ky.; an aunt, uncle and a cousin. She also leaves behind her best friend, Karen Kivela of New Ipswich.

Calling hours were held on Sunday evening at the Edmund Fournier Funeral Home in North Woodstock. A funeral service was held on Monday morning at the Pemi Valley Church in Woodstock, with The Rev Raymond Hahn officiating. MEMORIAL SERVICE NANCY CORRIVEAU

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Nancy L. Corriveau, who died on May 29 in Florida, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Colebrook, with the Rev. Krisann Byrne-Scheri and Rev. Randall Scheri co-officiating. A committal service will follow in the Colebrook Village Cemetery.

ALBERT DUBOIS

Albert R. DuBois, 89, of Seminole, Fla., and formerly of Canaan, died on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2007 at his residence after a period of declining health.

Mr. DuBois was born in Norton on December 23, 1917, a son of the late Arthur DuBois and Anna (Cantin) DuBois.

Mr. DuBois was an industrious worker for his entire life. He had several careers, including becoming a master welder, and worked during World War II for Sikorsky Aircraft in Connec-ticut. He was an entrepreneur of an independent spirit, and owned and operated his own mobile home park in Florida after leaving the Northeast Kingdom. He was his own man and liked to do things his own way. Mr. DuBois was an avid pool player, even into his mid-eighties.

Mr. DuBois leaves behind four sons, Albert DuBois Jr. and his wife Mary of Rock Hill, S.C., John DuBois and his wife Lynda of Whately, Mass., Daniel DuBois and his wife Wanda of Franklin, Tenn., and Ronald DuBois and his wife Margie of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Ludivine Deragon, of Seminole, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Pauline Daley of Canaan; a very special nephew, Dr. Phillip Solomon of Lynn, Mass.; his longtime companion, Shirley Knowlton of Seminole, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours were held on Sunday evening, June 3 at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday morning at The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Church in Canaan, with The Reverend Craig Cheney as celebrant. JEAN DUDLEY

Jean (Barnett) Dudley, 78, of South Canaan and briefly of the Coös County Nursing Hospital, died early on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2007 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Mrs. Dudley was born on June 18, 1928 in West Stewartstown, daughter of the late Wrennie and Marjorie (Lamberton) Barnett, and was graduated from Colebrook Academy.

She was a homemaker, remaining at home until her two sons were graduated from high school. She later accepted a housekeeping position at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital and worked with her husband in housekeeping for 15 years.

Her many hobbies included word puzzles, reading, knitting, listening to music and watching television. She was an avid sports fan, particularly the Boston Red Sox and the Celtics. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Dudley is survived by her loving husband, Allan Dudley of South Canaan; two sons, Don Dudley and his wife Carol of Northfield, N.H., and Richard Dudley of Concord; two brothers, James Barnett and Fay Barnett, both of South Carolina; four grandchildren, a great-grandson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Dudley was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Barbara Coole. Calling hours were held on Friday morning at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home with The Reverend Craig Cheney officiating. An interment service was held at St. Brendan's Cemetery in Colebrook.

LEON GADWAH JR.

Leon C. "Junior" or "Mustard" Gadwah Jr., 72, formerly of Carlton Hill Road in Colebrook, died on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Coös County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown. Junior was born on March 6, 1935 in West Stewartstown, son of the late Leon C. and Leona (Jordan) Gadwah Sr.

He attended school in Columbia and worked for numerous area employers, including Leonard Parker, Warren Haynes, and Reuben Washburn for 19 years as a woodsman. He also owned his own taxi service and later worked as a driver for Vershire Center for 16 years.

He was married to his late wife, Marilyn Haynes, on September 14, 1957. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed sitting on Main Street in Colebrook in his later years visiting with friends with his favorite dog, Duke, at his side.

Junior is survived by six sons, William Wheeler of Michigan, Galen Wheeler of South Carolina, Leon Gadwah III of Canaan, James Gadwah of Colebrook, Robert Gadwah of Clarksville, and Arthur Gadwah of Colebrook; four daughters, Glena Wolfe of Wyoming, Wanita Osgood of Colebrook, Leona Washburn of Bloomfield, and Deborah Gadwah of Bethlehem; a brother, Warren Gadwah of Haverhill; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his loving wife, Marilyn Gadwah, on October 11, 2002.

At Junior's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 at the Colebrook Village Cemetery with Pastor Gary Clark officiating. Expressions of sympathy in Junior's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

JOYCE GREENWOOD

Joyce Lynn Greenwood, 60, of Exeter and formerly of Colebrook, died on May 30, 2007 at Sunbridge of Exeter.

She was born on December 12, 1946 in Exeter, daughter of Joyce (Payne) Greenwood and the late Philip Greenwood.

Lynn grew up and lived most of her life in Exeter. She was a graduate of the Portsmouth Beauty School and worked for several years in the beauty industry. For the last five years she worked in waitressing and home and office cleaning, and may be remembered by most as a manager and bartender at Pal's Pub in Seabrook. In her spare time, Lynn enjoyed making crafts, visiting yard sales, and cooking for her family.

In addition to her father, Lynn was predeceased by two brothers, David Greenwood and Curt Greenwood.

The family includes a son, Richard Blake of Brighton, Mass.; two daughters, Lisa Washburn and Kelly Blake, both of Colebrook; a grandson; her mother, Joyce Greenwood of Exeter; a brother, Alan Green-wood of Nashua; a sister, Janet Greenwood of Exeter; and a nephew, Jason Greenwood of Exeter.

Calling hours were held on Sunday evening at the Brewitt Funeral Home in Exeter. A graveside service was held on Monday morning at the Exeter Cemetery.

JOYCE HOLDEN

Joyce B. (King) Holden, 71, died at her home in Charlestown, N.H., on Friday morning, June 1, 2007.

Mrs. Holden, one of 14 children born to William and Carmen (Dupuis) King, was born in North Stratford, on November 17, 1935. She was raised in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School.

Joyce was a resident of Colebrook, Twin Mountain and Groveton prior to moving to Charlestown. She chose nursing as her career. Special things she enjoyed were riding on back roads, fishing, and the camp at Fish Pond. Her heart's greatest joys were her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Family members include her husband of 38 years, Wayne A. Holden Jr.; three daughters, Debra Morin of Milton, Del., Cynthia Holden-Plummer of Lebanon and Dawn Berry of Claremont; four sisters, Orleans Jeffers of Westbrook, Maine, Gloria Brooks of Lancaster, Carol Sibulkin of Sanbornton and Darlene Henry of Pittsburg; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A son, Michael, predeceased her.

Visiting hours were held on Monday evening, June 4 at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday morning at All Saints Church in Lancaster, officiated by The Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor and followed by private burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Home Healthcare Hospice and Community Services, PO Box 564, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH 03431.

ROBERT MANGELS

Robert Douglas Mangels, 86, of Danbury, Conn., died at his home, on Saturday, May 26, 2007. He was the husband of Harriet A. (Geidel) Mangels.

Mr. Mangels was born in Queens, N.Y., on February 6, 1921, son of the late William H. and Reba (Lane) Mangels. A graduate of Brooklyn Tech, he resided in Queens Village, N.Y., for 26 years, then in Hicksville, Long Island, N.Y., for over 20 years before moving to Danbury in 1968.

A decorated combat veteran of World War II, he served as a first lieutenant with the 45th Infantry Division in Anzio through France to Germany, and was awarded a Bronze Star. Mr. Mangels worked for the American Can Company for more than 35 years.

He was a life member and Past Commander of the American Legion, Charles Wagner Post #421 in Hicksville, N.Y. He was a member of the King Street United Church of Christ in Danbury, a member of the Danbury Drum Corps for over 20 years, and was an avid bowler, belonging to leagues at the Brookfield Lanes.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by three sons, William H. Mangels and his wife Yoshiko of Las Vegas, Nev., Robert A. Mangels and his wife Carole of South Hadley, Mass., and Thomas R. Mangels and his wife Linda of Colebrook; eleven grandchildren, including Scott B. Mosher of Lincoln and formerly of Canaan, and Amy Lyn Martin of Colebrook; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

The family received friends at the Hull Funeral Home in Danbury, and the funeral was held at the King Street United Church of Christ in Danbury on Wednesday, May 30, followed by burial at the Wooster Cemetery in Danbury. Memorial contributions may be made to the King Street United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 201 South King St., Danbury, CT 06811; or to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
