Norton R. Ferren
Norman R. Ferren, 81, of Litchfield, died early Monday morning, May 29, at his home, following a long illness.

Mr. Ferren was born May 8, 1925, in Errol, son of the late Curtis and Margaret (Stewart) Ferren. He grew up in Errol and had been a resident of Litchfield for the past 58 years.

He was the husband of Helen J. (Bygot) Ferren, whom he married October 19, 1947. They shared 58 years of marriage.

Mr. Ferren worked as a machinist/tool grinder, and began his career with the former Improved Paper Machine Company in Nashua, then with Raytheon Inc. in Andover, Massachusetts, and later at High Voltage Engineering in Burlington, Massachusetts. After his retirement, he worked at Market Basket in Hudson for several years.

He was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed fishing and boating.

Mr. Ferren was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist church in Hudson and served as Eucharistic Church in Hudson and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years.

He attended elementary school in Errol and was a 1943 graduate of Pembroke Academy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ferren was predeceased by three sisters, Shirley Hawkins, Madeline Hart, and Lucy Batchelder.

Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda M. and Roland N. Picard, Jr. of Nashua, and Barbara McCracken of Manchester, four grandchildren and their spouses, David and Tracy Picard, and Karen and Matthew Roman, all of Nashua, Matthew and Lindsay Murray of Indianapolis, and Michael McCracken of Bakersfield, California; three great grandchildren, Sara and Adam Picard, and Cora Murray; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dr. Calvin and Bobbie Ferren of California, Curtis and Wanda Ferren of Oregon, and Donald Ferren of Litchfield; two sisters, Abbie MacArthur of Hooksett, and Norma Freeman of White River Junction, Vermont; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church Thursday morning; burial was at the Holy Cross cemetery in Hudson. Donations may be made in his memory to Souhegan Home and Hospice Care, 24 North River Road, Milford, NH 03055. The Farwell Funeral Service in Nashua is in charge or arrangements.

Donald H. Landry

Donald H. Landry, 85, a lifelong resident of Pelham, died Monday at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lillian C. (Cyrus) Landry who died February 13.

Born in Pelham, February 27, 1921, the son of the late Joseph and the late Victoria (Lavasser) Landry, he was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Pelham.

Mr. Landry attended Pelham Elementary School and was a graduate of Nashua High School.

Before retiring, he was a Machinist at AVCO Research and Development in Wilmington for more than 27 years.

He enjoyed playing 45s with all his friends at the Cracker's Lounge.

Mr. Landry is survived by two daughters Elaine Zelonis and her husband Richard of Hudson, and Kathleen Beauregard and her companion Lawrence Macionski of Hampton Falls; a son John M. Landry and his wife Lisa Anne of Pelham; a daughter-in-law Michelle J. Landry of Pelham; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister Bernice Placentine of Glendale, California.

He was also father of the late Donald W. Landry and brother of the late Robert Landry, William Landry, Andrew Landry, J. Edmund Landry, Jerome Landry, Clifford Land, Lillian Tallent, Ethel Patenaude, and Alice Cantin

His funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick Church in Pelham at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26. Burial will be in Gibson cemetery. Those wishing may make contributions in his memory to Cancer Care Endowment Fund, Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854. Pelham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joan C. (Mills) Eppolito
Joan C. (Mills) Eppolito, 65, of Tessier Street, Hudson, died Saturday, May 6 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Mrs. Eppolito was born in Batavia, New York, on December 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Francis and Fern (Harvey) Mills. She was the wife of John A. Eppolito, Sr., of Hudson.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Eppolito had been employed by St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia, New York. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Marie Rivier Association and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Mrs. Eppolito was a communicant of St. Kathryn Church.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Eppolito is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph Eppolito of Peterborough, New Hampshire, Dr. John A. Eppolito, Jr., of Bridgewater, New Hampshire, and James and Lucy Eppolito of Nashua; one daughter, Janet Eppolito of Hudson; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ashley, Jack, and Francis; three sisters, Norma LaCastro of Batavia, New York, Marion Robertson and Donna O’Jeen, both of LeRoy, New York; two brothers, Robert Mills and Edward Mills, both of LeRoy New York; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated May 10 at St. Kathryn Church; burial took place in St. Francis cemetery, LeRoy New York.

The Anctil-Rochette and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Park K. Davis
Paul K. Davis, 86, of Hudson, died Wednesday, April 26 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua.

He was born October 8, 1919, in Robbinston, Maine, son of the late Willard and Cora (Rafus) Davis.

Mr. Davis was the husband of Annie (Gove) Davis of Hudson, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army.

Besides his loving wife, survivors include a son, Lloyd Davis of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Raymond Fair of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and Paula and Jerry Dawson of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Christopher Fair, Catherine Fair, and Meagan Fair, all of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; and a great grandchild, Austin Lee Fair of Hopkinton. Also a sister, Ella Walker of Fort Fairfield, Maine.

All services were private.

The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

John Thomas Whatmough, Jr.
John Thomas Whatmough, Jr., 59, of Wilton, formerly of Hudson, died Monday, May 1 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack.

Born on April 24, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late Phyllis (Merola) and John T. Whatmough, Sr. He was educated in the Pittsburgh school system and graduated from Penn Hills Senior High School in 1965. He was a resident of Wilton for the past year and a half. Previously, he lived in Hudson for 21 years.

He served in the U. S. Air Force for nine years, obtaining the rank of Tech Sergeant during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970.

He later worked in the computer business as a technical writer and became a software engineer. Most recently, he worked as a software engineer for Hewlett Packard Company in Nashua for the last five years.

He was predeceased by his son, John T. M. Whatmough, who died in 2005.

Surviving family members include his wife of 39 1/2 years, Ruth A. (Monagle) Whatmough of Wilton; his daughter-in-law, Janet Whatmough of Nashua; his grandson, Ian Whatmough of Nashua; and his brother, Philip Whatmough of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Calling hours are at the Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley Street, Nashua on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by his funeral service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn cemetery in Nashua. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory can be made to The Salvation Army, 1 Montgomery Avenue, Nashua, NH 03060.

George O. Favreau
George O. Favreau, 89, of Pelham died Monday at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts.

He was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, grew up and was educated in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and had been a resident of Pelham for over 60 years. He served his country in the Army prior to entering the Marines where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II

He was employed as a Maintenance Manager for the Berkeley Nursing Home in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He had also worked for Raytheon and Maiden Mills. He enjoyed collecting and repairing clocks as well as hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends. He was the Treasurer for the Campbell Grove Association of Little Island Pond in Pelham.

He was predeceased by his wife Rita (McGrath) Favreau and his son Richard G. Favreau.

He is survived by grandsons Richard Favreau of San Francisco, California; Randy Favreau and his wife Judy of Bloomington, Indiana, Robert Favreau of Chicago, Illinois, a brother, Douglas Mercier of South Carolina; a sister, Carole and her husband Roland Berube of Methuen, Massachusetts, a great grandson, Jamie Favreau; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service was held April 22 at Gibson cemetery in Pelham.

Rita Moore
Rita Moore, beloved wife of Richard F. Moore, a resident of Tyngsboro, died suddenly on Wednesday evening at Lowell General Hospital.

She was born in Lowell a daughter of the late William O’Brien and Alice (Mahoney) O’Brien.

She was a graduate of St. Michael’s Grammar School and Keith Hall. She was also a student of the Kathleen Jennings Voice Studio in Lowell.

As a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Mrs. Moore was the Church Soloist for many years. Upon joining the Sacred Heart Parish, Mrs. Moore held membership in the parish Holy Rosary Sodality. For many years, Mrs. Moore was involved with the famous Sacred Heart Parish Variety Shows.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Moore was employed for many years as a Medical Transcriptionist in the Radiology Department of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lowell.

She was married to Richard F. Moore, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage in March of 2006. In her free time she enjoyed shopping with her daughters. She also enjoyed her home, interior decorating and antiquing.

In addition to her husband Richard, Mrs. Moore is survived by three daughters, Shelagh Shaw, Eileen Lathrop and her husband Leonard all of Hudson, New Hampshire and Noreen Moore of Tyngsboro; three grandchildren, Adam Shaw of Hudson, Jennifer McComas and her husband Michael of Hudson, and Sarah Moore Lathrop of Florida; two great grandchildren, Rowan McComas and Maeve McComas both of Hudson and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Lauricella of Tyngsboro. Mrs. Moore was also the sister of the late Alice O’Brien.

Robert C. Smith
Robert C. Smith, 83, of Hudson died peacefully at his home Sunday afternoon, April 23 surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was born September 30, 1922, in Nashua, son of the late Samuel E. and Ruth E. (Curtis) Smith. He lived in Nashua during his youth and had made his home in Hudson for 63 years. He also spent many summers at his home at York Beach, Maine.

He was the husband of Martha E. (Smith) Smith, whom he married in October 1942.

A well-known pluming and heating contractor, Mr. Smith founded Robert C. Smith Plumbing and Heating of Hudson in 1953, as a third-generation plumber. His sons, Curtis and Jonathan, grandson, Jeffrey and daughter Kathleen, continue the tradition through five generations.

He loved spending time with his family, attending his grand-children’s sporting events and traveling with his many dear friends. His sense of humor, his energy and especially his generosity will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Mr. Smith was a past president of the Nashua plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors Association. Active in community affairs, he was a charter member of the Hudson Kiwanis Club, a trustee of Hills Farms cemetery and one of the founders of Troop 20 of the Hudson Boy Scouts.

Fraternally, he was a 50-year member of Rising Sun Lodge 39, Free and Accepted Masons, 32nd degree. He held memberships in the American Legion post 48 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, both of Hudson.

Mr. Smith served with the Army Air corps in Alaska during World War II.

He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson.

Educated in local schools, Mr. Smith was a graduate of Nashua High School, class of 1941.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Blaney.

Besides his wife of 63 years, survivors include two sons, Curtis R. Smith of Hudson and Jonathan P. Smith and his sweetheart, Bonnie Doran, of Merrimack; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Laliberte of Hudson, and Paula and George R. LaRocque Jr. of York Beach; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer L. Lavallee of Pelham, Elizabeth A. Meyer, Jeffrey C. Smith and Katy L. LaRocque, all of Hudson, Lara L. Wheat of Fairfield, Connecticut, Jane Martha LaRocque of Somerville, Massachusetts, Jonathan P. Smith Jr. of New York City, Matthew R. Laliberte, Robert M. LaRocque and Rachel A. Laliberte, all of Hudson; six great-grandchildren, Tabith L. Meyer, Stephanie N. Meyer and Kathleen N. Meyer, all of Hudson, Lauren E. Lavallee and Megan R. Lavallee, both of Pelham, and Reese B. Wheat of Fairfield; a brother-in-law, John Blaney of Spring Hill, Florida; two nieces, Nancy Sweeton of Enfield Connecticut, and Ruth Ann Mangan of Auburn, Maine; and a nephew, Robert Munroe of Trophy Club, Texas

The Farwell Funeral Service in Nashua is in charge of arrangements. His memorial service will be held in the First Baptist Church, 236 Central Street, Hudson Saturday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. Friends are invited to attend. Donations may be made in his memory to the Home, Health & Hospice Car, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, New Hampshire 03060 or to The Steeple Fund of the First Baptist Church, 236 Central Street, Hudson, New Hampshire 03051.
