Ryan D. Strout

Ryan D. Strout, 25, of Hudson passed away suddenly on December 28, 2006.

Mr. Strout was born in Nashua on July 18, 1981, a son of Randall R. Strout and Patricia (Merrill) Lagrow.

Ryan was self-employed as a drywall finisher. He enjoyed traveling, country music, playing pool, fishing, snowboarding, off-roading with his jeep, summers at the lake, family gatherings, and the fun times with his many friends. He will be lovingly missed by his family and those he met along the way. Although his life was short lived, he enjoyed it to the fullest.

He attended Hudson schools.

In addition to his father, Randall Strout and his wife Teri of Sanford, Maine, and his mother, Patricia (Merrill) Lagrow of Hooksett, survivors include his twin brother, Cory Strout and his wife Heather of Hudson; two brothers, Chad Girouard and his wife Trisha of Merrimack and Robert Strout of Perryville, Maryland; two step-sisters, Amy Sanborn and her husband Mark of Springvale, Maine and Sarah Legg of Springvale, Maine; his grandparents, Virginia Merrill of Manchester and Robert and Doris Strout of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements are in the care of Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua.

A Funeral Service was held at Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 2. Interment Prayers and Burial followed in Edgewood cemetery, Nashua. Arrangements are in the care of locally owned Davis Funeral Home in Nashua.

Barbara Davis
Barbara Davis, 81, died Sunday, September 23, 3007, at her niece’s home in Windham. She lived in Windham for the past year and a half, previously living in Medford, Massachusetts, for 30 years.

She was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, grew up, and was educated in Medford.

She received her Master’s Degree in music and education from Indiana State University while she was serving at St. Mary of the Woods as a Sister of Providence. She taught in Chicago, North Carolina, Indiana, and Massachusetts.

Miss Davis was a teacher for the Malden, Massachusetts School System. She was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Medford, and was active with the Medford Senior Center. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. She had a great compassion for those in need and generously supported projects for the underserved.

Miss Davis was predeceased by her parents Daniel II and Mary (Lyons) Davis and by two brothers, Daniel III and Hubert, and an infant sister, Bernadette Davis.

She is survived by a sister, Alice Foley of Salem and 17 nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Medford, Massachusetts. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA 12143. Arrangements are by the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem.

Christine A. (Alvino) Leone
Christine A. (Alvino) Leone, 78, of Salem, died Thursday, September 20, 2007, at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Christine was born and educated in New York and had been a Salem resident for 45 years. She was the owner of Salem Travel in Salem for the past 14 years. Christine owned Leone’s Fireside Restaurant in Salem during the 70s and the Villa Restaurant in Methuen, Massachusetts, during the 60s. She was a past President of the Emblem Club and a member of the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce.

Christine enjoyed traveling around the world, especially Europe and Italy. She loved spending time with her family. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her generous holiday parties.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Leone and his wife Cheryl of Merrimacport, Massachusetts, and Richard Leone and his wife Jackie of Concord; a daughter, Gina Leone-Osgood of Salem; a brother, Jack Alvino and his wife Lorraine of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Christina Osgood, Faye and Gabrielle Leone, Jennifer and her husband Spencer Jubert, Richard and Anthony Leone; and great grandchildren, Chessa and Spencer Jubert.

A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, September 25, at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem. Contributions may be made in Christine’s memory to Dollars For Scholars, PO Box 297, Salem, NH 03079.

Joyce E. (Carkin) Mason
Joyce E. (Carkin) Mason, 78, of Pelham, died Saturday, September 22, at her home. She was the wife of the late Hubert Mason.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on March 8, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Mildred B. (Whitworth) Carkin.

Mrs. Mason attended Chelmsford, Massachusetts, schools. She worked at Lowell Institution for Savings and the Lowell Gas Company. She also worked at the Pelham Police Department as a dispatcher. She served as Clerk of Court at the Pelham Municipal Court. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Pelham, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Woman's Guild. She was a Girl Scout leader, was active in Pelham's 250th Anniversary Celebration, and was one of the authors of the town's history book Reflections. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pelham Square and Compass Club, Ladies Fire Auxiliary to the Pelham Fire Department, Pelham Community Spirit Group, Inc., and the Sherburne Hall Restoration Committee. She was a Supervisor of the Checklist and was a Justice of the Peace from 1975. She enjoyed spending time with her children and their families, gardening, rug braiding, sewing, and selling goods at the flea market.

Mrs. Mason is survived by two sons, Bruce D. Mason and his wife Lori of Nottingham, and Brian L. Mason and his wife Patty of Hudson; two daughters, Marlene D. Harmon and her husband Carl of Hudson, and Jennifer L. M. Theroux and her husband David of Goffstown; a former daughter-in-law, Beverly Stanley of Hudson; two sisters, Jacqueline Matthews of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and Sandy Ostman of Merrimack; 10 grandchildren, Mike, George, Rosemary, Rhonda, Andrea, Megan, Mike, Rob, Austen, and Ross; five great grandchildren, Cameron, Elliot, Emily, Zane, and Onna; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service was held at the Dracut Funeral Home in Dracut, Massachusetts, on Thursday, September 27. Burial followed at Gibson cemetery in Pelham. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Home Health and Hospice Care Inc., 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060.

Donna June (Taylor) Maynard
Donna June (Taylor) Maynard, 59, of Nashua and formerly of Hudson, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at her residence.

She was born August 2, 1948, in Portland, Maine, daughter of the late Gordon and Ruth (Winther) Taylor. She was also predeceased by a brother, Donald Taylor in 1996.

Donna was previously employed by Parker Chomerics in Hudson and most recently was employed as a LNA with the Hunt Community in Nashua. She enjoyed cooking and loved to celebrate Christmas.

Survivors include her two loving daughters, Kara Maynard and Shelley Maynard both of Fairborn, Ohio; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David Taylor of Littleton, Colorado, and Larry and Kathy Taylor of Hudson; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Tina Hadlock of Litchfield, Laura and Gerry Laliberte of Nashua, and Linda and Ray Carroll of Cummings, Georgia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours were held in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson with a graveside service in East cemetery in Hollis.

Antonio P. Avila
Antonio P. Avila, 85, of Hampstead, died Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Antonio was born and educated in Lowell, Massachusetts. He had lived in Hampstead for 12 years, previously living in Florida and Salem. Antonio served his country during World War II in the U. S. Coast Guard, U. S. Merchant Marine, U. S. Navy, and U. S. Army.

Antonio was a Supervisor for J. E. Turner and Sons in North Reading, Massachusetts. He was previously employed as a Grounds Keeper at Rockingham Race Track in Salem. Antonio had a strong will and worked hard for everything that he obtained. He enjoyed his work and was a jack of all trades. Antonio was very generous and helped many people. He dearly loved his family and he will be sadly missed.

He was predeceased by his son Dennis Avila and his brother Arthur Avila.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Natalie (Cardoza) Avila of Hampstead; a daughter, Donna and her husband Michael Rogers of Hampstead; a brother, Arthur Avila of Palm Bay, Florida; and grandsons Antonio and Christopher.

A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, September 13, at St. Anne Church in Hampstead; burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery in Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Building 9, Lawrence MA 01843. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.

Baxter F. Byrd, Jr.
Baxter Fred Byrd, Jr., 75, of Hudson, died Sunday, August 26, 2007, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.

Baxter was born in Black Mountain, North Carolina, December 15, 1931, son of the late Baxter, Sr. and Laura Lee (Pruitt) Byrd, and was predeceased by two brothers, William Byrd and Donald Byrd. He was the husband of Betty (Rowell) Byrd of Hudson.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and participated in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Baxter was an avid reader, particularly westerns, and loved “old west” movies. He also enjoyed solving cross-word puzzles.

Besides his loving wife, Baxter was survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, William Marcutt of Manchester, Mark Byrd of Highland, North Carolina, Robert Laflamme, Rocky and Roberta Brooks, and Brian and Darlene Gilbert, all of Nashua; six daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca Byrd and Ronda Byrd, both of Highland, Debbie Byrd of Manchester, Brenda Brooks of Florida, Debra and Donald Beauchesne of Gilmanton, and Loretta Chick of Nashua; two brothers, James Byrd of Somerville, Massachusetts and Steven Byrd of Thomasville, North Carolina; three sisters, Lilian Bartlette of Thomasville, Eloise Jenken of Elizabethton, Tennessee, and Nancy Tarbebille of Conway, South Carolina; 28 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles J. Dabrowski, Sr.
Charles J. Dabrowski, Sr., 93, of Salem, died Sunday, August 26, 2007, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Derry. He had been a resident of Salem for 29 years, previously living in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Charles was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the son of the late Adelajda (Szelazek) and Joseph Dabrowski. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 1994 where he worked as an auditor. He was previously employed with Mutual of Omaha where he was a Five Star insurance sales agent.

Charles was a member of the Derry-Salem Elks, the Salem Senior Center, and the Salem Bridge Club. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and gardening.

He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor (Thomann) Dabrowski.

He is survived by a son, Charles J. Dabrowski, Jr., of Derry; three daughters, Arlene and her husband Norman McIver of Belmont, Massachusetts, Christine and her husband Joseph Cuggino of Acton, Massachusetts, and Joyce and her husband William Barnes of Salem; six grandsons, Norman, Paul, and Mark McIver of Belmont, Richard McIver of Revere, Massachusetts, Donald Blunt of Windham, and Joseph Dabrowski of Derry; four granddaughters, Karen Cuggino of Boston, Massachusetts, Deborah Thomas of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Donna Blunt of Marlboro, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Dabrowski of Derry; a brother, George Dabrowski of LaMesa, California; two sisters, Isabel and Alice Dabrowski of Manchester; nine great grandsons; and three great granddaughters.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 29, at St. Matthew’s Church in Windham. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem were in charge of arrangements.

Doris J. (Trombley) Dube
Doris J. (Trombley) Dube, 83, of Hudson, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Dube was born in Derry on May 1, 1924, a daughter of the late Hector and Bertha (Cournoyer) Trornbley. She was the widow of Normand A. Dube who died June 23, 2003.

Mrs. Dube had been a longtime resident of Hudson. She loved doing puzzles and taking care of her dogs. Doris was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.

Mrs. Dube is survived by one son, Dennis R. Dube of Hudson; two daughters, Kathleen J. Dube, and Ann Marie Gilman and her husband Kenneth all of Hudson; three grandchildren, Dennis R. Dube, Jr., Jennifer P. Gi!man, and Keith E. Gilman; two great grandchildren, Alysa Dube and Devin Dube; one brother, Conrad Trombley of Nashua; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday September 7, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 27 Library Street in Hudson at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Anctil-Rochette and Son Funeral Home.

Robert Leo Dufault
Robert Leo Dufault, 63, of Hudson, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 3, 1944 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, son of the late Leo and Laurette (Methot) Dufault.

Bob was the husband of Susan (Holt) Dufault of Hudson with whom he shared 40 years of marriage.

While growing up, he attended Salem schools and later received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire where he played football, and a Masters in Science Education from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. He taught Chemistry at Salem High School for 32 years until his retirement in 2002. While teaching at Salem High School, Bob founded the wrestling team and held the status of Master Teacher. In 2003 he was inducted into the Salem High School Sports Hall of Fame for his playing football and for his founding and coaching wrestling.

During his retirement he volunteered his time with the Summer Program in the Hudson school system as well as teaching night school in Manchester and Salem.

He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, having been stationed in Louisiana and Germany as a Chemical Officer.

Bob enjoyed woodworking; however, his greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He loved being involved in their activities.

Besides his loving wife Susan, survivors include one son and a daughter-in-law, Andrew and Laurie Dufault of Merrimack; one daughter and a son-in-law, Christina and Daniel Sweeney of Hudson; three grandchildren, Ryan Sweeney, Robert Sweeney, and Marissa Sweeney all of Hudson; a mother-in-law, Elaine Holt of Georgetown, Maine; also a sister-in-law, Katherine Daniell; as well as several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 18, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery in Hudson. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054, or Home Health and Hospice, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.
