Beverly A. (DeSimone) Anctil
Beverly A. (DeSimone) Anctil, 60, of Salem, died Monday, August 20, 2007, at the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, Massachusetts.

She was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where she grew up and attended schools. She was a resident of Salem for the past 29 years, formerly of Virginia and Lawrence.

Beverly worked as a mortgage processor for North East Credit Union in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She enjoyed boating, traveling, and shopping.

She was predeceased by her parents, Paride “Pebo” and Ida (Papparlardo) DeSimone.

She is survived by her husband, Conrad Anctil of Salem; one son, Michael Stapleton of Salem; a niece, Chantel and her husband Rob Lucas of Kingston and their children, Nicholas and Abbie; a nephew, Christopher and his wife Heather DeSimone of Hampstead and their daughter Lahna; and several aunts and cousins.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, August 23, at Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem; burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery in Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem were in charge of arrangements.

Viola L. (Pica) Bernard
Viola L. (Pica) Bernard, 57, of Salem, died Monday, August 20, 2007, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Derry and she grew up and was schooled in Methuen, Massachusetts. She was a resident of Salem for the past 32 years, formerly of Methuen.

Mrs. Bernard was an owner and operator of Common Grounds Café in Methuen. She enjoyed golfing and boating in Florida, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Esther (Labelle) Pica.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Bernard; a daughter, Lindsey Bernard; a son, Shane and his wife, Elizabeth Bernard, all of Salem; her father, Albert Pica, Jr. of Methuen; two brothers, Albert Pica III of Methuen and Anthony Pica of Derry; a sister, Barbara Baxter of Salem; a granddaughter, Kennedi Marie Bernard of Salem; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Eva (Yvonne) Laforge Valcourt
Eva (Yvonne) Laforge Valcourt, Eva, also know an Yvonne, the beloved wife of the late Levite Valcourt passed away Saturday, August 19, 2007, with family by her side. She was 97. She is survived by three sisters, Jean Jalbert of Peabody, Massachusetts, Evangeline Levesque and Cecile Michaud both of Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada, and many generations of nieces and nephews.

She was born in New Brunswick, Canada on July 25, 1910. She was the fourth of 13 children. She was dearly loved and admired by all her siblings. She moved to Massachusetts in 1937 where she met the love of her life. She and Levite were married on September 4, 1939. They resided in Lawrence, Massachusetts for over 50 years. She was known as a wonderfully talented seamstress, an avid knitter, a fun-loving card player, an engaging story teller, but mostly a loving matriarch to her extended family. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence.

She retired from William Barry Industries where she was a seamstress. She enjoyed many years of retirement with her husband before his death in December 1995. She then moved to Limestone, Maine to be close to her sisters. In Maine she made new friendships, was an active member of the Sisters of Saint Anne, and was also a respected and valued member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program where she knitted hundreds of pairs of mittens.

After suffering a fall in March 2006, she gave up her apartment at the age of 95 and took up a new residence at the Salem Haven Nursing Home so that she could be closer to her youngest brother’s family. She was happy at Salem Haven where she enjoyed bingo, exercise classes, the company of other residents, and the ministry and singing of Reverend Carver.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She touched so many lives and has left us with the fondest of memories.

A Memorial Service was held on August 23 at the Salem Haven Nursing Home Chapel. Inurnment followed in St. Catherine cemetery, Westford, Massachusetts. Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Eva to the Ministry of Reverend Carver at the Faith Bible Chapel, 38 Millville Street, Salem, NH 03079. Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem were in charge of the arrangements.

Derek C. Doucet
Derek C. Doucet, 22, of Hudson, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at Elliott Hospital in Manchester.

He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on January 9, 1985, son of Stephan and Maureen (Lowe) Doucet of Hudson. Derek was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Doucet, who died in May, 2003.

Derek was a graduate of Alvirne High School. He played soccer all his life and loved the outdoors, especially when riding his four-wheeler. He enjoyed fun competition with his friends when marinating and grilling meats.

Besides his loving parents, he is survived by a son, Patrick Doucet of Hudson; a sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and Dereck Lavalley of Allenstown; two sets of grandparents, Joseph and Patricia (Devose) Doucet of Melrose, Massachusetts, and Robert and Doris (Brooks) Lowe of Maine; one niece, Alayna; and six nephews, Tommy, Jakie, Brenden, Jacob, Ryan and Robert; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, August 11, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 27 Library St., Hudson. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery, Hudson. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

Christopher R. Macy
Christopher R. Macy, age 14, of Salem, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, Massachusetts.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, grew up and was educated in Salem, where he was a life long resident.

Chris graduated from Woodbury Jr. High in Salem in 2007. He was active in Salem Youth Hockey and Hollis Youth Hockey. He loved music and playing his drums for his punk rock band. Chris will always be remembered as a great teammate and friend, who would give help and encouragement to anyone who needed it.

Chris is survived by his parents, Bryan and Deborah (Gauthier) Macy of Salem; three sisters, Elissa Macy and her significant other Robert Melaragni of Manchester, Shauna Macy of Salem, and Jenna-Rae Macy of Salem; maternal grandparents, Alan and Eileen (Trombley) Gauthier of Salem, and paternal grandparents, William and Faye (Dame) Macy of Salem; an uncle, Brian Gauthier of Derry; an aunt, Jennifer and her husband Michael Scuderi of Salem; and several cousins.

Calling hours will be held Friday, August 17, from 4 – 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street in Salem. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Dollars for Scholars in Memory of Christopher R. Macy, PO Box 297, Salem, NH 03079.

Susan (Duffy) Nash
Susan (Duffy) Nash, 54, of Hudson, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 following a four year battle with breast and bone cancer, which she fought so gracefully.

She was born August 24, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of Lois (Forgerson) Duffy of Cleveland, and the late Jack Duffy, Sr., who died in 2005. She was also predeceased by a brother; Peter Duffy in 2003.

Susan was previously employed as a Branch Manager for Citizen Bank of Maryland. She had several hobbies which included; counted cross stitch, beading, and crafting. One of her greatest enjoyments was vacationing at Disney World with her family, and she loved her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy Urness of Crofton, Maryland, and Jeffery and Jeannie Urness of Lusby, Maryland; a grandson and two granddaughters, Damion Urness, Kendahl Urness, and Hannah Urness; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Sharron Duffy, with whom she resided in Hudson and received loving care from her “sister of the heart”, and Richard and Patricia Duffy of Mentor, Ohio.

Visiting hours were on Thursday, August 16, in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson. Additional services and burial will be held in Maryland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in Sue’s loving memory to Home Health and Hospice, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060.

Robert J. Wilkesman
Robert J. Wilkesman, 58, of Atkinson, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday at the Manchester VA Hospital.

He was born in Methuen, Massachusetts, grew up and was educated in Salem, and graduated from Salem High School in 1967. He was a resident of Atkinson for the past 10 years, formerly of Salem.

In 1981 he graduated from New England Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Bob worked as a funeral director for many years in the Boston area. Bob was currently working in domestic care for Residential Resources in Hampstead, before his illness.

A member and past exalted ruler for the Derry-Salem Elks Lodge in Salem, he was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem.

He is survived by his daughter, Alanna Joy Wilkesman of Arizona; a son, Jonathan Louis Wilkesman of Arizona; and several cousins.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 17, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Salem. Burial will follow in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem. Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem is in charge of arrangements.

Jean (Belanger) Center
Jean (Belanger) Center, 76, of Hudson, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at her residence in Hudson.

She was born December 31, 1930, in Orwell, Vermont, daughter of the late Clarence and Germaine (Bertrand) Belanger. She was predeceased by her loving husband Henderson “Hank” Center in July of 1984.

Jean was a resident of Hudson for 42 years and was employed by St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua for 10 years and Community Council in Nashua for over 20 years as a medical transcriptionist. She had obtained an Associates Degree from Becker Junior College of Worcester, Massachusetts, that she was very proud of. She loved gardening, swimming in her pool, bird watching, attending the theater, and traveling. She was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson for many years.

Survivors include two sons, John D. Center and his wife Jacqueline of Saco, Maine, and Matthew F. Center and his wife Sandra Cangiano of Henniker; two daughters, Karen Rockwell and her significant other Paul Belanger of Nashua, and Colleen Dabilis and her husband Timm of Merrimack; four grandchildren, Sara Rockwell of Nashua, Lilli Dabilis of Merrimack, and Christopher Center and Samuel Center both of Saco; two step-grandchildren, Kelsie Knight of Portland, Maine and Jacqueline Knight of Los Angeles, California.

A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, August 9 in the Dumont – Sullivan Funeral Home. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery in Hudson. Donations to the Nashua Humane Society, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 03064 will be appreciated.

Georgette G. (Girard) Harding
Georgette G. (Girard) Harding, 87, of Salem died Thursday Aug 2 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts.

Georgette was born in Troy, Vermont the daughter of the late Delores (Messier) and Arthur Girard. She had lived in Salem for 59 years. Georgette retired from Lucent Technologies in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Georgette was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the Bowling League at Lucent and a member of Mary Queen of Peace Church.

She was predeceased by her husband Byron Harding. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Attorney Paula Brice and her husband Thomas of Jacksonville, Florida, Luanne and husband Louis Bergeron of Valrico, Florida, Michelle O’Madigan of Tampa, Florida, Mark Preziosi, M.D., of Lakeland, Florida, Maria and her husband Thomas Slowey of Brandon, Florida, Anthony Preziosi and his wife Elizabeth of Brandon, Florida, Louis Preziosi and his wife Chantell of Riverview, Florida, Susan and her husband David Dane of Brooksville, Florida, and numerous other nieces and nephews

There are no calling hours. A funeral service was on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street in Salem. Entombment followed in Eternal Light Mausoleum.

Anna M. (Dumas) Marshall
Anna M. (Dumas) Marshall age 93 of Salem, died Sunday at the Parkland Medical Center, in Derry.

She was born in Piercefield, New York, where she grew up, attended school, and was a star basketball player. She was a resident of Salem for the past 44 years, formerly of Herkimer, New York.

Anna was a retired assembler for ITT in Methuen, Massachusetts. In her younger years, Anna worked for a lollypop factory. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Herkimer, New York. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, gardening, and baking. She was predeceased by her first husband James R. Outtrim, and a daughter Melanie Anderson. She is survived by her husband Karl Marshall of Salem; her daughter Kathleen and husband Bob Anderson of Salem; grandchildren: Colleen Giffin, Steven Ladd, and Megan Blodgett; great grandchildren David, Melanie, Gabriel, and Sophie.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 8 at 10 a.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem. The burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, August 7 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 114 Perimeter Rd, Units G&H, Nashua, NH 03063.

Joseph Gordon Mawson
Joseph Gordon Mawson, 79, of Salem, died suddenly on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at Salemhaven Nursing home in Salem.

Joe “Bear” was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where he grew up. Joe and Bette lived in Salem for over 57 years.

Joe worked for Flieder Paint, White Street Paint, and Hardy and Pike for most of his life. He was also a custodian for Salem elementary schools. He was a member of the Derry/Salem Elks Lodge and past president of the Salem Lions Club. Joe enjoyed polka music and was a member of the “Soundabouts.” He enjoyed horse racing, gardening, fishing, and hunting. Joe will always be known for his sense of humor.

Survived by his wife of 57 years Bette (Hyde) Mawson of Salem; two sons, Bruce and his wife Donna Mawson of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and Richard and his wife Susan Mawson of Derry; a daughter, Brenda Mawson and her fiancé Jerry Highland of Pelham; a brother, Robert and his wife Eleanor Mawson of Bathe; a sister, Beatrice and her husband William Lavoie of Salem; three grandchildren, Jason, Joseph, and Mary; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 9, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street in Salem. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home; burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery, Methuen, Massachusetts.
