Imelda M. (Chaisson) George
Imelda M. (Chaisson) George, 79, of Salem, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

She was born in Lawrence where she grew up and attended schools. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She was a resident of Salem for the past 53 years.

Mrs. George owned and operated, with her late husband Ernest, EJ’s Garden Center in Salem. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem, where she was in the Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family.

She is survived by three sons, Barry and his wife Rebecca George of Nashua, Alan George of Windham, and David and his wife Lisa George of Methuen, Massachusetts; three daughters, Nancy Bedrosian of Salem, Donna and William Fortier of Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Lisa and her husband John Bencivenga of Plaistow; a sister, Rosaline Davis of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday, February 8 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street in Salem. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Salem; burial will follow in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive, Suite 11, Bedford, NH 03110.

Lee W. Richardson
Lee W. Richardson, 74, of Salem, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

He was born in Methuen, Massachusetts, where he grew up and attended schools and graduated from Searles High School. He was a resident of Salem for the past 41 years and had also lived in Hampstead for a short time.

Lee was retired from AT and T in North Andover, Massachusetts, where he worked in management. He also worked security for the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem. He was a Special Police Officer for the towns of Salem and Hampstead. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem and a member and former president of the Canobie Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and mostly he loved story telling and spoke at several schools in Salem.

Lee was predeceased by a son, Brian E. Richardson, and a grandson, Matthew C. Keezer.

He is survived by his wife, Marcelle (Dubois) Richardson, three sons, Scott and his wife Christina Richardson of Manchester, Stephen and his wife Michelle Richardson of Florida, and Todd M. Richardson of Florida; two daughters, Julie A. and her husband Robert Darling of Dunbarton, and Sandra L. and her husband Dennis Woods of Hudson; one brother, Varnum and his wife Ruth Richardson of Florida; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated February 4 at St. Joseph Church in Salem. Burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2 Commerce Drive, Suite 110, Bedford, NH 03110. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.

Reverend George E. Ham
Reverend George E. Ham, 66, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at the Bishop Peterson Residence in Manchester as a result of complications from colon cancer.

Born, May 16, 1941, in Portsmouth, Father Ham was the son of the late Charles S. and Helen (Geary) Ham. He was an honor graduate of Portsmouth High School in 1959, achieved honorary distinction as a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1963, and graduated from St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1967.

Father Ham was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest by Bishop Ernest Primeau on May 6, 1967, at the Cathedral in Manchester.

Subsequently Father Ham served in a number of New Hampshire parishes as well as the Director of Vocations and Vice Chancellor of the Diocese of Manchester. His assignments included: Cathedral Parish in Manchester, Elizabeth Seton Parish in Bedford, Pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish in Pelham, Pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Hampton, and most recently as the Pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Alton/Wolfeboro.

Father Ham was an accomplished musician who played both the piano and organ with great skill. In each of his parish assignments, he organized and developed both children and adult choirs to engage his parishioners more fully in the celebration of the liturgy. Outside his priestly work, Father Ham was also an antique car enthusiast who owned and enjoyed several antique cars during his lifetime. He also dearly loved his Boston Terrier dogs who were his constant companions.

Reverend Ham is survived by his brother, Charles G. and his wife Maryellen C. Ham of Bluffton, South Carolina, with whom he enjoyed many wonderful vacations. He is also survived by several cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial was concelebrated January 26, at St. Katharine Drexel Church, Alton by the Most Reverend John B. McCormack, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Manchester. Burial took place in the Calvary cemetery in Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Katharine Drexel Building Fund, P.O. Box 180, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. Arrangements were by the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory in Hampton.

William Harrison
William Harrison, 98, of Salem, died unexpectedly Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Parkland Medical Center in Derry after complications from surgery.

William was born and educated in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the son of the late Katherine (Maguire) and John Harrison. He worked at American Woolen Company in Andover, Massachusetts, for 29 years then at the State Liquor Store in Salem. He also worked in Security at Rockingham Park in Salem for over 60 years and was honored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 50 years of service. William continued to work at the track into his mid-90s.

William was a member of the Arlington Club in Lawrence and Spicket Lodge #85 F & AM in Methuen, Massachusetts. He enjoyed bowling and was the Duckpin Champion for the City of Lawrence for four years in a row. William enjoyed playing poker and traveling and spent many winters in Florida. He was an avid Red Sox fan who never missed a game in his 98 years.

William was predeceased by his wife Alexina (Thomson) Harrison, his son Ronald, and his grandson John.

He is survived by his son retired Lawrence Firefighter William G. Harrison of Salem; two granddaughters, Lesley Harrison and Nancy McClure, both of Derry; two great-grandsons, Richard Cloutier and James Burgess of Derry; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service was held January 26 at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem; burial followed in Spring Grove cemetery in Andover. Memorial contributions may be sent to Masonic Home, 813 Beech Street, Manchester, NH 03104.

Walter J. Jackunchuck
Walter J. Jackunchuck, 83, of Salem, died Wednesday at the Avery Manor Nursing Home, Needham, Massachusetts.

He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where he grew up and attended schools, and graduated from Lawrence High School. He was a resident of Salem for the past 65 years.

Mr. Jackunchuck was retired from Raytheon Corporation, where he was in Inventory Control. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Tank Core, during World War II. He was also a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem.

He is survived by his wife, Emily (Dlugosz) Jackunchuck of Salem; two sons, Peter and his wife Ann Jackunchuck of Saugus, Massachusetts, John and his wife Linda Jackunchuck of Santa Rose, California; two daughters, Debra and her husband Paul Gagnon of Wells, Maine, and Donna and her husband Brian Carlton of Pelham; one brother, Edward Jackunchuck of Methuen, Massachusetts; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on January 25 at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem; burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem.

Anne M. McDermott
Anne M. McDermott, 77, of Hudson, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Greenbriar Terrace Health Care Facility in Nashua.

She was born June 27, 1930, in Lowell, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Lewis) Cullinan. She was the widow of Thomas McDermott. She was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Anne was a graduate of Long Island Nursing School in New York, where she received her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She was employed for many years at Central Hospital in Somerville, Massachusetts, and in the 1980s moved to Hudson. She was very active in Pop Warner Football in Hudson and was instrumental with the implementation of football into Alvirne High School. She enjoyed watching all of Alvirne’s athletic teams as well as watching football on TV, especially her favorite team, Notre Dame. Anne also enjoyed puzzles.

Survivors include her loving son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Barbara O’Donaghue of Hudson; four grandchildren, Shawn O’Donaghue, Timothy O’Donaghue, Allison O’Donaghue, and Amanda O’Donaghue; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in Blessed John XXIII Parish at St. John the Evangelist Church. The family requests donations be made to the Touchdown Club, c/o Alvirne High School, 200 Derry Road, Hudson, NH 03051. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

Franklin ‘Bub’ E. Pennell
Franklin "Bub" E. Pennell, 67, died January 26, 2008, after an extended illness.

He was born October 30, 1940, in Whitneyville, Maine, the son of the late Carroll and Jennie (Cox) Pennell.

Bub worked for many years as a truck driver for the Maine Department of Transportation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bub was also an avid Red Sox, Patriots, and NASCAR fan.

Bub was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Winnifred Pennell.

He is survived by his children, Pam Canney and husband, Pat, of New Hampshire, Richard "Dickie" Pennell, of Whitneyville, Steven Pennell and wife, Susan, of Hudson, and Connie Sylvia and husband, Dwaine, of Machias, Maine; grandchildren, Paul Pennell, Ryan Bishop, Ricky, Jennie, and Brittney Holmes, and Chris and Meaghan Pennell; great-granddaughter, Alexis Pennell; brother, Bruce Pennell and wife, Jane; and sister, Carol Ann Smith; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

A Funeral Service was held Tuesday, January 29, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home in Machias, Maine, officiated by Pastor Betty Duzen and Al Nehring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitneyville Congregational Church, care of Carol Ann Smith, 14 Bagley Road, Apartment #5, Jonesboro, ME 04648.

Ella Alice Connell
Ella Alice (McCoy) Connell, 99, of Gardner, Massachusetts, widow of Frederick R. Connell and a well-known native and longtime Hudson resident, died early Saturday morning, January 19, 2008, at the Lachance Center in Gardner. Born at the family home on Library Street in Hudson on February 8, 1908, Mrs. Connell was one of 11 children of the late Daniel G. and Bessie (Rivers) McCoy.

Mrs. Connell was educated in local schools, graduating from Nashua High School, class of 1927 and attended the University of Wisconsin, where she studied special training for a World War II job at Whittemore Deport at Fort Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts.

Ella studied piano, voice and theater, and taught ballroom dancing at the Old YMCA on Temple Street in Nashua.

Ella married Frederick R. Connell on May 3, 1931, and they shared over 51 years together before his death on December 1, 1982.

Mrs. Connell had been employed as manager of the ladies clothing department at the former Montgomery Ward Store in Nashua. Ella also worked for a time at the former Enterprise store, the former Speare Dry Goods and Coronis Cleaners, all in Nashua.

A member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson for many years, Ella was a member of the BAFTA Federation Ladies Group. In 1993, Mrs. Connell was honored by the church at the Roll Call Dinner for her faithful prayers and dedicated work.

Mrs. Connell was a member for over 50 years of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hudson Unit 48. She served as treasurer for 25 years and was publicity chairman for 15 years. Ella was a member of the Department of New Hampshire American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Chairman for three years, the Girls State Committee for 5 years, and the Unit Girls State Chairman for over 45 years.

She volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Manchester during the Christmas Holidays, Valentine parties and Bingo. She also placed American flags at local cemeteries for 26 years with the Hudson Post 48 American Legion. Mrs. Connell was a member of the Association of Historical Societies of New Hampshire and a member of the New Hampshire Veterans Association Auxiliary. She was a life-member of the Hudson Historical Society and served as Assistant Clerk, on Board of Directors and the Publicity committee.

Among the many honors bestowed on Mrs. Connell, she was mentioned in Network Publication’s New Hampshire Edition in June 1991, “Area Women Shine”; was featured on Channel 11’s New Hampshire Crossroads and New Hampshire Remembers. The Hudson Chamber of Commerce presented Mrs. Connell with the Citizen of the Year Award in 1983 in honor of her late husband, Frederick Connell. Mrs. Connell was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane in 2007.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ella was predeceased by five brothers, Eugene McCoy of Hudson, Daniel McCoy II of Nashua, Richard McCoy of Rochester, Raymond McCoy and Ralph McCoy of Nashua; a sister, Madeline Coburn of Nashua, and a brother-in-law, David W. Council of Hudson.

Members of her family include a brother, Clifford McCoy of Lantana, Florida; a sister, Barbara Stevens of Lantana; four sisters-in-law, Merlyn McCoy widow of Richard of Rochester, Fernande McCoy, Carmelle McCoy widow of Raymond, and Edna Connell Brigham, all of Nashua; a nephew, Wayne Huard; her special nurse, Gloria Levesque of Winchendon, Massachusetts; a niece and her husband, Jennie and Gary Signor of Milford; 23 other nieces and nephews; and friends, Jackie and Richard Dionne, Dorothy Schlagle, Beverly and Paul Dion, June Parker, Ruth Parker and Nancy Merrill.

Her funeral service was held at the First Baptist Church in Hudson on January 22. Interment will take place at Westview cemetery in the spring. Donations may be made In Mrs. Connell’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Hudson or the Hudson Historical Society. Arrangements were in the care of Farwell Funeral Service in Nashua.
