Anthony Edward Gannino
Anthony E. Gannino, 72, of Hudson, died Monday, January 21, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 2, 1935, in Lynn, Massachusetts, son of the late Alfred and Anna (Gregoria) Gannino. He was also predeceased by a sister, Marie Erickson.

Anthony was the husband of Alice (Pike) Gannino of Hudson with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

He was an Air Force veteran of 10 years and received his business degree from Northeastern University.

Anthony started his career in the chocolate industry at Necco Candy in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which later became Borden’s. He was employed by many chocolate and candy companies in the New England area including Merkins Chocolate, Van Leer, Heberts, and retired as Vice President at Thompson Candy.

He loved the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching all the other New England sports teams. Anthony also enjoyed working in the yard. He was passionate about the candy industry as well as his career and will affectionately be remembered as “The Candy Man.”

Besides his loving wife Alice, survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, William and Lynn Gannino of Derry, Edward Gannino, A. Ken and Shena Gannino, Michael Gannino, all of Hudson; a brother and a sister-in-law, Al and Barbara Gannino of Florida; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 25, at 10 a.m. in St. Kathryn Church, 6 Dracut Road in Hudson. All may meet at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery in Hudson. Flowers will be accepted or you may make donations in Anthony’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson is in charge of arrangements.

Del Shawn Ganter
Del Shawn Ganter, 37, of Manchester, died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester.

He was born April 28, 1970, in West Haven, Connecticut, son of John and Connie (Paolella) Ganter of Hudson.

Del lived in Connecticut until the age of nine and later in Rhode Island. He had lived in New Hampshire for the past 27 years. Del was born with Spina Bifida and it never stopped him from doing anything until the last few years when complications set in and eventually took his life. He was an Easter Seals Poster child in 1975 and 1976 and traveled many miles as their representative. Over the last few years he enjoyed their adult day care activities and met many good friends. At a very early age he became an avid sports fan and loved the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. He will be remembered for his smiling face, sincere concern for others, and his sense of humor.

Besides his loving parents, survivors include a brother, Drew Scott Ganter of Woodland Park, Colorado; special aunts and uncles, Uncle Sunny and Auntie Rosemary Paolella of Hamden, Connecticut, Auntie Jean Masi, Auntie Berta Masi, Auntie Nodie Campaniolo all of West Haven, Judy Malloy and Kerri Malloy of Brockton, Massachusetts, and David and Donna Rybacki of Wallingford, Connecticut; special friends, Julie Beberek and Kathy Howe, among many others.

A Prayer Service was held earlier this week in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Easter Seals New Hampshire, Auburn Street Facility, 555 Auburn Street, Manchester, NH 03103.

Cecile E. (Cote) Johnson-Land
Cecile E. (Cote) Johnson-Land, 72, of Salem, died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts.

She was born in Sherbrooke, Canada, where she grew up and attended schools and later moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts, and graduated from St. Anne’s School.

Mrs. Johnson-Land was a homemaker, but she will always be remembered as the professional volunteer. She volunteered at the Kelly Library in Salem, the Salem Senior Center, Holy Family Hospital, and at the polls in Salem, just to name a few. She was a member of the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church in Salem, and a member of the Red Hatters Club. In her younger days she was involved with the ladies bowling league, active with the Harness Racing Association, Rockingham Park Race Track, and was a member of the Salem Junior Women’s Club.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold C. Johnson.

She is survived by her husband William Land, M.D., of Salem; two sons, Harold C., Jr., and his wife Fabiana Johnson of Salem, and Donald and his wife Deanna Johnson of Raymond; four brothers, George Cote of Florida, Paul Cote of California, Ernie Cote of Lawrence, and Roger Cote of Atkinson; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were private for the family and burial was in Elmwood cemetery in Methuen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Management Center, Holy Family Hospital, 70 East Street, Methuen, MA 01844. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of the arrangements.

Gilbert Arthur ‘Red’ Levesque
Gilbert Arthur "Red" Levesque, 83, of Hudson, died January 5, 2008, at the Courville Nursing Home of Nashua where he received very compassionate care while battling a myriad of illnesses over several months.

Born in St Pacome, Quebec, Canada, on March 28, 1924, his father, Albert Levesque, and mother, Cecile (Guy) Levesque, moved to Nashua when he was three years old. Gilbert grew up in Nashua and later resided in Hudson. He was the eldest of his four deceased siblings: Jeanette Jordan of Boca Raton, Florida; Yvonne Guichard of Alton Bay; Viola "Mini" Casale of Billerica, Massachusetts; and Roland "Pepsi" Levesque of Nashua.

He served in World War II with the Army Air Corps from January 22, 1943, to March 14, 1946.

After 34 years at Ingersoll Rand on Burke Street in Nashua, Gil retired on March 31, 1986.

He lost his loving wife Martha "Marty" and the mother of his children after 47 years of marriage on January 19, 1997.

He is survived by his son Michael Levesque of Hudson; his daughter Marlene Paquin, wife of Real "Frenchy" Paquin of Hudson, and their three sons, Allen, Jeffery, and Dennis; two brothers-in-law, Henry Jordan of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Roger Guichard of Leominster, Massachusetts; and several cousins, many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

A private graveside military service was held on January 10, at the New Hampshire State Veterans cemetery in Boscawen. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice. Arrangements were in were in the care of Davis Funeral Home of Nashua.

Cleona (Hartshorn) Richards
Cleona (Hartshorn) Richards, 85, of Salem, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Berlin, New Hampshire, where she grew up and attended schools. She was a resident of Salem for the past two years, formerly of Sun City Center, Florida.

Mrs. Richards was a manager for the Holiday Center in Berlin, and she was a former member of St. Kieran’s Church in Berlin. In Florida, Mrs. Richards was a member of the Bridge Club and the Red Hatters Club. She was and avid golfer and tennis payer.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Jeremy Harper.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Benoit R. Richards of Salem; two daughters, Julie Harper of Biddeford, Maine, and Shelley and her husband Robert Holt of Salem; one sister, Lenora Hamel of Florence, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Christopher Oliver, Tasha Hamel, Jason Gosselin, Joel Gosselin, and Cory Holt; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private for the family. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Berlin. Memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice, 157 Main Dunstable Road, Nashua, NH 03060. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard ‘Dick’ M. Saunders
Richard (Dick) M. Saunders, 73, of Hudson, died after a brief illness on January 15, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Peggy Anne (Hamill) Saunders. They were married for 23 years.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on April 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Terese K. (McClellan) Saunders. He served in the Army from 1956 – 1958. He resided in Lowell until 1984 before moving to New Hampshire. Mr. Saunders was the Assistant Administrator of General Services at St. Joseph Hospital in Lowell from 1964 through 1990. He was a fellow in the American Academy of Medical Administrators. Dick was active in many civic affairs and at his parish, the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell. He was a past president of the Lowell Lions Club and a past member of Vesper Country Club in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts. Dick loved to golf and was an avid Red Sox and Notre Dame fan. He and Peggy shared a love of family and were proud of the accomplishments of their children and grandchildren.

Besides his loving wife Peggy, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy Saunders-Earnshaw and her husband Vincent of Exeter, Rhode Island, and Attorney Andrea (Saunders) Batchelder and her husband, Jim, of South Berwick, Maine; a son, Edward Saunders and his wife Monica of Fredericksburg, Virginia; a stepson, Don Thatcher and his wife Marianne of Plymouth, Massachusetts; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Thatcher) Mixon of Billerica; 13 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services were private. Donations may be made in his memory to Home Health and Hospice Care, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060 so that others can be provided with the same kindness and care that they provided to Dick. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home In Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

Maria (Hahn) Searles
Maria (Hahn) Searles, 82, of Windham, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born January 21, 1926, in Lollar, Germany, daughter of the late Hans and Maria (Riehm) Hahn. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Stanley Searles, Sr., who died in August of 2002. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Susan Searles; a stepson, Stanley Searles, Jr.; two grandchildren, Rob Browning and Jeremy M. Roberts; a brother, Hans Hahn; and a sister, Katinka Hahn.

Maria was employed with Sanders in Nashua for over 20 years. She was a member of the Maryland Chapter of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and attended the Community Church of Hudson. She was so very proud to be and American. She also took great pride in the up keep of her house, both on the inside as well as the outside, on her beloved John Deere mower.

Maria was a devoted mother and a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved nothing more then spending time with her grand children.

Survivors include three sons, Hans J. and Susan Searles of Poquoson, Virginia, Edward L. III and Diane Searles of Arlington, Texas, and Stephen C. and Catherine Searles of Hudson; four daughters, Karen M. Mossey of Hudson, Cynthia A. and David Wrocklage of Derry, Vicky L. and Thomas Vaccaro of Hudson, and Barbara J. and Michael Roberts of Londonderry; a sister, Ingeborg Norwig of Germany; 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visiting Hours will be on Friday, January 25, from 5 – 8 p.m. in The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry Street, Hudson. A Service will take place on Saturday, January 26, at 10 a.m. in the Community Church of Hudson, 19 Central Street, Hudson. All may meet at church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to either St. Joseph Hospital Oncology Center, 172 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH 03060 or the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 030054.

John J. Creeden III
John J. Creeden III, 63, of Hudson, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

John was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 6, 1944, son of the late John J., Jr., and Helen (Healey) Creeden and was the husband of Arlene (Akins) Creeden, of Hudson, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.

John served as a Program Manager Director for BAE Systems and recently retired after 24 years. He was instrumental in guiding program management, training and execution. He was a principal contributor to the Program Management Master’s Program at the University of Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Saint Charles Borromeo High School, Boston College, and the University of Washington. John was an active member at Blessed John XXIII Parish at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson and served on the parish council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years. John truly was a “Renaissance Man.” He was not only an artist in oils, water colors and photography, but also in life. John was a traveler, chef, kayaker, hiker, cyclist, square dancer, wine enthusiast, student of Tae-Kwon-Do, Storyteller, and lover of the ocean. He filled his days with humor, loved trivia, and was a ravenous reader. He was a mentor to many and will be missed by all.

Besides his loving wife, John is survived by one son, Shawn Creeden of New York City, New York; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Tina and Greg Kriebel of Peterborough, Mindi and Robert Charles of New Boston, and Aubrey Creeden of Nashua; two brothers, Charles Creeden of Stoneham, Massachusetts, and Tom Creeden of Sturbridge, Massachusetts; three sisters, Anne Vincent of Hingham, Massachusetts, Geri Wangia of Thika, Kenya, and Rosemary Otto of Lakewood, Ohio; three grandsons, Zachary and Benjamin Kriebel and Jackson Charles; and one granddaughter, Emily Charles of New Boston.

A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, January 12, in Blessed John XXIII Parish at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery, Hudson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Friends of The Library Building Fund, 18 Library Street, Hudson, NH 03051. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.

Gordon W. ‘Sonny’ Harless
Gordon W. “Sonny” Harless, 62, of Salem, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter.

He was born in McComas, West Virginia, where he grew up and attended schools. He was a longtime resident of Kingston, formerly of Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Sonny was a retired millwright for Raytheon Corporation in Andover, Massachusetts, a member of the Kingston Vet Club in Kingston, and enjoyed sports and horseshoes.

He is survived by his mother Gladys (Browning) Harless of Bluewell, West Virginia; two brothers, Roosevelt “Jr.” and his wife Janet Harless of Salem, and William Quincy Harless of Bluewell; two sisters, Loretta and her husband Robert Boucher of Salem, and Ann Mosqus of Pelham; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on January 11 at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem; burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery in Salem.

Anne Gaffney Richter
Anne Gaffney Richter, 94, died Thursday, January 10, 2008, at Parkland Medical Center in Derry.

She was born in New Britain, Connecticut, on April 20, 1913, the only child of John R. Gaffney and Mary McNamara Gaffney, and lived there for most of her life. She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown, New Jersey, in 1934, and was a teacher in New Britain prior to her marriage to Otto G. Richter in 1942. She later returned to teaching and earned a Master of Education degree from Central Connecticut State College in 1967. After retirement in 1973, she and her husband moved to Farmington, Connecticut, where she resided until 1999. In her later years, she was a parishioner of St. Matthew Church in Windham.

She was a quiet, gentle woman who loved her family. She received caring attention at Silverthorne Adult Care in Salem during the last year and a half.

Her husband died in 1993, and she leaves five children and their spouses, Dr. James and Joyce Richter of New York, New York; Mary Jane and Ove Myrseth of Arendal, Norway; William and Elizabeth Richter of Glastonbury, Connecticut; Dorothy Richter and Gene Simmons of Windham; and Alice and Michael Cadieux of Colchester, Vermont. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, Matthew G. Richter, Timothy W. Richter, Christopher J. Richter, Kristian Ove Myrseth, Katrine A. Myrseth, Erik O. Myrseth, Emily A. Cadieux, Douglas J. Cadieux, Michelle A. Cadieux, and Benjamin M. Cadieux.

A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, January 16, at St. Patrick Church in Farmington, Connecticut. Interment in Riverside cemetery in Farmington, Connecticut, will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Silverthorne Adult Day Care, Inc., 23 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079. The Peabody Funeral Home in Derry was in charge of arrangements.

Mary E. Herdade
Mary Elizabeth (Hunter) Herdade, 84, of Salem, died January 1, 2008, following a long illness.

Mary Beth received her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State College for Women. She lived in Salem since 1965, where she taught kindergarten and Title I in the Salem public schools. She was a member of Salem’s First Baptist Church, where she served for a number of years as church secretary.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph N. Herdade, of Salem; two daughters, Carol Maya Ellis of Salem, and Elizabeth Herdade of Rye; two sons, Lawrence Herdade and his wife, Nancy Timberlake, of Portland, Maine, and Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Herdade and his wife, Sarah, of Rolla, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amber Herdade, Jackson, Brooklyn and Maxwell Herdade; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews across the country.

Her Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 5, at the First Baptist Church in Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salemhaven Activities Fund, 23 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH or the charity of one’s choice. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.
