Constance N. Shepherd

Constance N. Shepherd, 75, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute after a long illness.

She was born in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of the late Dwight and Esther Gearwar. Connie graduated from the Faulkner School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for 35 years beginning with the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston.

In 1970 Connie and her husband, Garet, bought the Whittier Cash Market in Tamworth and became involved with many local projects. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Church in Tamworth. She worked on a part-time basis for Huggins Hospital and the Tamworth Community Nurses Association.

After retiring in 1974, she began a second career in real estate sales and was one of the top producers for Hamel Real Estate. Retiring for a second time, Connie and her husband moved to St. Petersburg, Florida.

Besides her husband of 52 years, her family includes a daughter, Vanessa Petrie of St. Petersburg; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Brian.

Services were held in St. Petersburg. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

Frederick H. Clark, Jr.

Frederick H. Clark Jr., 69, of Inverness, Fla., died April 9, 1999, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester following a sudden illness.

He was born in New Brunswick, N.J., and was the son of Frederick and Christina (VanDerkraats) Clark.

Mr. Clark lived in North Conway from 1982 to 1996, and then moved to Florida. He worked for the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department for 25 years, retiring as captain. He and his wife owned the Cottage of Flowers in North Brunswick, N.J., for 17 years.

He was president of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Clark was also a member of the Hightstown Apollo Lodge No. 041 F&AM of New Jersey; the Crescent Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., of Temple, N.J.; and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Trenton, N.J.

The family includes his wife of 48 years, Florence Z. Clark, of Inverness, Fla.; his daughter, Marsha J. Lombardi, of Whitefield; his son, Nelson R. Clark, of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway, with the Rev. William Stockhaus officiating. Burial will be in the North Conway Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

Kevin Louis Wight

Kevin Louis Wight, 25, of Fryeburg, died suddenly at his home on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1999. He was born January 23, 1974 in Bridgton, Maine, the son of Allan and Beverly McAlister Wight.

He attended Lovell grammar school and was a graduate of Fryeburg Academy, class of 1992. He enjoyed reading adventure stories, gun books and Civil War stories. He loved to hunt, fish, and target shoot with his father and younger brother.

His family includes his parents, and a brother, Chris, all of Fryeburg; his maternal grandmother, Mary Kimball of Stow, Maine; his paternal grandfather, Lester Wight of North Sebago, Maine; aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A celebration of Kevin's life for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Mountain Valley Pavilion in North Fryeburg. Arrangements are by Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

Gladys E. Russell

Gladys E. Russell, 80, died in her home in East Conway on Monday, April 5, 1999, after a long illness.

Born in Nashua, she was the daughter of the late Charles Russell and Esther Crockett Russell.

Mrs. Russell was a member of the Saco Valley Lanes bowling league and was an avid walker. She attended Assembly of God Church in Fryeburg.

She resided in Laconia from 1925 to 1977 after which time she moved to East Conway.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Fryeburg.

Linda J. Davis Lawrence

Linda J. Davis Lawrence, 56, died Friday, April 2, 1999 of a long-term illness. Born in Wolfeboro and raised in Center Ossipee, she was a graduate of Kennett High School and completed studies at Fitchburg State College.

She worked for many years for A.W. Perry Co. in Hingham, Mass., and managed their Exec-U Center. She also managed their Modular Home Park in Kingston, Mass.
She was a twenty-year resident of Hingham, Mass.

Her family includes four daughters, Desiree Lawrence, Tina Dowling, Audrey Lawrence, and Beth Thorne, all of Hingham, Mass; a brother, Merland Davis of Freedom; two nephews, Walter Davis of Tamworth, Alan Davis of Effingham; two nieces, Gloria Yeaton of Merrimack and Joanne Canney of North Conway.

A church service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 172 Main St., Hingham, Mass. at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10. A graveside service will be held in Freedom at a later date.

Lucille A. Lavoie Jamro

Lucille A. Lavoie Jamro, 76, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at a Concord nursing home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Manchester, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lea Plante Lavoie, and for a long time resided in North Conway, before returning to Manchester. Before her retirement, she had been employed as a cashier for various supermarkets and restaurants.

She was married to Joseph (Mike) Lavoie, who died in 1974.

Family members include two daughters, Joan Szot Sarvai of Manchester, and Beverly Simmons of Jackson; four sons, Richard Szot of Fairfax Station, Va., Mike Jamro, James Jamro and David Jamro, all of Manchester; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover St., Manchester. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hospice Home, 250 Pleasant St., Concord, NH 03302.

Leona M. Danforth

Leona M. Danforth, 84, of Twin Mountain, died on Monday, April 5, 1999 at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster after a long illness. She was born May 30, 1914 in Center Conway, daughter of Orren and Abbie Miller Hamilton.

She lived in North Stratford and Bartlett prior to moving to the Twin Mountain area in 1953. She and her husband, Dwight, made their first home at Fabyan Station, where she worked at the post office. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crocheting.

She was predeceased by her husband Dwight on July 31, 1981; a a daughter, Madeline Johnson Clark in 1979; and a sister, Marjorie.

Her family includes a daughter, Irene Johnson of Twin Mountain; a sister, Eleanor Smith of Fryeburg, Maine; a grandson, Bruce Johnson of Bethlehem; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jennifer Johnson; a great-grandchild, Corey Beale.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Fryeburg. Arrangements are by the Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel.

Robert F. Hunt, Sr.

Robert F. Hunt Sr., 70, of Millis, Mass., died April 3, 1999, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 11, 1928, in Boston, he was the son of the late Grace (Quirk) Hunt-Donahue and step-son of the late Jack Donohue. He was educated in the Dorchester Schools. Formerly of South Boston and Medfield, he had been a resident of Millis since 1955. He was a partner and vice president in charge of production and customer relations with the Adolph Bauer Inc. Engraving Co., in Holbrook.

A member, communicant and usher of St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Millis, he was also a U.S. Army World War II veteran, as well as a member of the AMVETS Post 495 in Millis.

The husband of Mary L. (Mueller) Hunt, he is survived by six children, Roberts F. Hunt Jr., and his wife, Dawn, of Fryeburg; Patricia M. Stratton and her husband, Burton, of East Walpole; Richard J. Hunt and his wife, Erin, of Wrentham; Peter E. Hunt and his wife, Beth, of Lakeville; John L. Hunt, of Millis; and Mary G. Brogan and her husband, Michael, of Wrentham; a brother, Edward Hunt, of Quincy; a sister, Jeanne Connolly, of Sandwich; a step-sister, Mary MacIntyre, of Dorchester; 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Hunt, and a grandson, Samuel Logan Hunt.
A funeral mass will be celebrated tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 82 Exchange Street, Millis. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Millis.

Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 90 Curve Street, Millis. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Thomas Church, Attn.: Rev. Chambers, 111 Exchange Street, Millis, Mass. 02054.

Yvonne A. Evans

Yvonne A. Evans, 89, died Monday, May 31, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway. She had been a resident of SunRise Health Care Center in North Conway.

Her family includes a daughter, Marilyn Bell of Fryeburg, Maine; four granddaughters, Holly Foster of Fryeburg, Tracy Mason of Bethel, Maine, Kelly Lloyd od Fryeburg, and Wendy Chaplin of W.A.F.B., Mo.; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl H. Evans, in 1981.

At Mrs. Evans' request, there will be no service.

Deric F. Button

Deric F. Button, 22, of Center Ossipee, died on May 28, 1999 at his home, the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash on May 29, 1995 in Dover, in which a drunk driver was responsible.

He attended Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, where he was awarded the Outstanding Freshman Award in 1992 for his musical talent. Deric was chosen to be the first seat saxophone in the All State Jazz Band in 1994. He played saxophone, drums and keyboard for the Ron Jones Band in Rochester. He was also a member of Habitat for Humanity.

He was a protective and caring brother, and was considered the most loving and devoted friend to his brother, sister and friends.

His family includes his mother and step-father, Gina and Larry Ross of Center Ossipee; his father, Frederick Button of Rochester; a sister, Sheyna Button; a brother, Joshua Button, both of Center Ossipee; his maternal grandparents, Nancy and George Willis of Cumberland, R.I.; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Button of Dover; and many aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Center Ossipee. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at his home at 20 Moody Pond Road, Center Ossipee.

Karen J. Birkbeck

Karen J. Birkbeck, 33, of North Conway, died on May 28, 1999.

She was born December 21, 1965 in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of David Meagher Sr. and Joan Cooper Derosier. She had lived in Conway for the past eight or nine years, moving here from West Haven, Conn.

Mrs. Birkbeck was an assistant director for the United Front.

Her family includes her mother and step-father, Joan and David Derosier of Tamworth; her father, David Meagher Sr. of West Palm Beach, Florida; two sons, Gregg Reeves Jr. of Lovell, Maine and Evan Hallett of Conway; a daughter, Amanda Birkbeck of Conway; a brother, David Meagher Jr. of Concord; two sisters, Susan Gildersleeve of East Haven, Conn., and Linda Candelora of Lovell, Maine; and her maternal grandmother, Helen Cooper of Fryeburg.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home, Rt. 16, West Ossipee. Services will be held Thursday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Larry Owens officiating. Burial will be in Wonalancet Cemetery.
