Stephen Dye Garvey

Stephen Dye Garvey, 40, died suddenly on August 13, 1999 in Anchorage, Alaska, as a result of a rock climbing accident.

He was born and raised in South Weymouth, Mass., and graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1977. He played Weymouth Youth Hockey and spent many happy hours in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Next to his family, Stephen's greatest love was climbing, both rock and ice. He pioneered hundreds of climbing routes and was known as "one of the best ice climbers in Alaska." He moved there upon graduation from high school, entered the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, and lived there ever since.

His family includes his wife, Lynne Rollins Garvey; three children, Lindsay, Kyle and Denzil Garvey; his parents, William and Paula Garvey of South Weymouth, Mass. and Wolfeboro; his brothers, Paul Garvey of Collierville, Tenn., and Peter Garvey of West Lawn, Pa.; his sisters, Linda Garvey Dickey of Quincy, Mass., Anne Corson of Wolfeboro, Carolyn Swain of Farmington, and Irene Garvey of Tuftonboro; his grandmother, Mrs. George D. Black of Wolfeboro, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Wolfeboro on Saturday, August 28 at 11 a.m.

Cecile T. Gagne

Cecile T. Gagne, 69, of Albany died Tuesday, August 17, 1999, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Berlin, the daughter of Philip and Beatrice Laroche Villeneuve. She attended the Guardian Angel School and Notre Dame High School in Berlin. In 1946 she moved to the Conway area, where she was employed at the Conway Cafe until 1975. From 1975 to 1992, she was employed at Yield House, in the retail department.

Mrs. Gagne was an active and outgoing person who took great pleasure in the outdoors, and especially in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Since her retirement in 1992, she and her husband, Willie, wintered in Haines City, Fla.

Her family includes her husband of 51 years, Wilfred Gagne of Albany; her mother, Beatrice Villeneuve of Berlin; her children, Terry Gagne and Sandra Gagne, both of Fryeburg, Maine, Joanna Noyes of Chocorua; four brothers, Richard, Ronald and Norman Villeneuve of Berlin, and Fernand Villeneuve of Morrisonville, N.Y.; five sisters, Rita Dube of Milan, Lorraine Baillargeon, Lillian Colbeth, Olive Couture and Pauline Viens, all of Berlin; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Philip Villeneuve, and by a sister, Jane Ayotte.
At Cecile's request, there will be no visiting hours. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.

Donations in her memory, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Cindy Russell Chase Liver Transplant Fund, P.O. Box 1826, Conway, NH 03818.
Arrangements are by the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee and Wolfeboro.

Richard G. Rouleau

Richard G. Rouleau, 42, of Bartlett, died on August 7, 1999 in Bartlett, following an accident. He was born in Fort Kent, Maine.

Mr. Rouleau grew up in Madawaska, Maine, and moved to the Mount Washington Valley in 1984. He graduated from Madawaska High School, class of 1975.

His family includes his parents, Roger and Camille Martin Rouleau of Madawaska, Maine; two brothers, Paul R. Rouleau of Natick, Mass., and David R. Rouleau of Madawaska, Maine; two sisters, Louise M. Peterson of Madawaska, Maine and Lise M. Auxier of Bangor, Maine; his paternal grandmother, Zelia Rouleau of Madawaska, Maine; and a niece and two nephews.

A memorial mass will be held in Madawaska, Maine at a later date. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery in Madawaska. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Eunice M. Perry

Eunice M. Perry, 64, of Center Conway, died on August 14, 1999 at The Memorial Hospital in North Conway following a long illness. She was born in North Conway and was the daughter of Arthur and Elsie Bean Day.

Mrs. Perry was a lifelong resident of the Conway area. She was a member of the Ralph Shirley American Legion Post 46 Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of the Eastern Slope Emblem Club.

Her family includes three sons, Gary L. Perry of Conway, Thad W. Perry of Center Conway and Dean P. Perry Sr. of Chocorua; four daughters, Joan A. Drew of Center Conway, Joyce M. Perry of Somersworth, Janet L. Sherman of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Norma J. Lusky of North Fryeburg, Maine; ten grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Leslie Day of Farmington; two sisters, Maxine Stimons of Fryeburg and Marilyn Fernald of North Conway; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Lorena A. Leavitt, in 1976.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Center Conway United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wesley E. Palmer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Conway Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Richard C. Kinsella

Richard C. Kinsella, 47, of Freedom, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 7, 1999 in Freedom. He was born January 19, 1952 in New York City, the son of Richard and Patricia Newcomb Kinsella.

Mr. Kinsella summered in Tilton until moving to the Ossipee area as a teenager. He had formerly worked as a truck driver for East Coast Lumber and Steve's Heating Oil. He enjoyed waterskiing and boating.

His family includes his wife, Shirley Ames Kinsella of Freedom; ason, Ricky Kinsella of Freedom; a step-son, Bill Tice of Tamworth; a step-daughter, Karen Nelson of Ossipee; two grandchildren, Courtney and Devlyn Nelson.

A gathering of friends will be held at his home this weekend. Arrangements are by the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee and Wolfeboro.

Paul M. Gallant Sr.

Paul M. Gallant Sr., 89, of Fryeburg, died Saturday, August 14, 1999 at the Bridgton Health Care Center in Bridgton, Maine. He was born in Newton, Mass., the son of William and Frances Johnston Gallant.

For 35 years he was a welder and maintenance person for the Boston Lockport and Block Co. From 1966 to 1992 he lived in Melrose, Mass., and came to Fryeburg from Billerica, Mass., in 1996.

His family includes two sons, Paul M. Gallant Jr. of Fryeburg and Richard W. Gallant of Lynnfield, Mass.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Alice T. Bean Gallant in 1991.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 19 at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, Mass.

Arrangements are by Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

John Phillip Poor

KENDUSKEAG, Maine John Phillip Poor, 74, of Kenduskeag, Maine, died peacefully at his home Aug. 6, 1999, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Boston, Mass., the son of Clarence and Maude Poor.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific as an aerial photographer. He then became a licensed pilot and flight instructor working out of White Mountain Airport in North Conway and Dewitt Airfield in Old Town, Maine. He then worked as a news reporter for WLBZ Channel 2 in Bangor, leaving there to become an assistant to the general manager at WABI, Channel 5, in the early 1970s. He was then director of the Meals for Maine program in Bangor for many years. He retired in 1989 from the public relations department at Eastern Transportation.

His lifelong love was photography, which he pursued professionally as "The Photographer" working out of his home and taking thousands of portraits, wedding photos and scenic pictures. He won many blue ribbons at the Bangor Fair as proof of his expertise. He also shred his love of photography with others as a photographic instructor at the YWCA in Bangor, the adult education in Bucksport and the University of Maine. His other interested included collecting old bottles, gardening and HO railroading.

In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Christina Poor and David Ferrelli, of Portsmouth; his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Denise Poor, of East Corinth; his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Michael Kenny, of Veazie; three grandchildren, Eric Ross, of Bangor, Deidre Poor, of East Corinth and Bradly Kenny, of Veazie; and many friends.
He was pre-deceased by his sister, Marilyn Wright, and his daughter, Katherine Poor.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 1 p.m. at Thompson's Funeral Home in East Corinth. Friends may call on the family from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at the Kenduskeag Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Katherine Poor Memorial Scholarship, c/o People's Heritage Bank, 1067 Union Street, Bangor, Maine 04401.

Patricia Warren

Patricia Warren, 79, of Lovell, Maine and Concord, Mass., died unexpectedly on August 3, 1999.

She was born in New Canaan, Conn., the daughter of Barbara Matlack Warren and Keith Faulkner Warren.

Miss Warren grew up in Lovell, Maine, and resided in the Washington, D.C. area until her retirement, and moved to Concord, Mass. She graduated from Fryeburg Academy, class of 1937, and attended the Mary C. Wheeler School in Providence, R.I. She obtained her bachelors degree from Simmons College in Boston, and advanced degrees from American University in Washington, D.C.

While residing in the Washington, D.C. area, Miss Warren was an educator working with young and special needs children. In her retirement, she volunteered her energies to Talking Books, a service that distributes recorded books to the physically and visually impaired.

Her family includes her brothers, Willard Clinton Warren of Fryeburg and Timothy Matlick Warren of Concord, Mass.; three nephews, two nieces, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lovell, Maine, at the family home. Arrangements are by Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

Thomas W. Reny

Thomas W. Reny, 83, of North Conway, died on August 3, 1999 at The Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a long illness. He was born in North Conway, and was the son of John and Alys Johnson Reny.

Mr. Reny was a lifelong resident of North Conway and graduated from Kennett High School, class of 1935. He worked at the Conway Highway Department for a short while, and owned and operated Tom's Variety Store in North Conway, for over 20 years.

He was the North Conway Country Club golf pro in the late 1930s, and he caddied for Babe Ruth. Mr. Reny was a member of the Mount Washington Lodge 87 F&AM, as well as the North Conway Country Club.

His family includes his wife, Ruth J. Reny of North Conway; two daughters, Leona A. Hill and Peggy R. Light, both of North Conway; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Phillip D. Reny of Center Conway.

Mr. Reny was predeceased by three brothers, Roy Reny, Andy Reny and George Reny, and by a granddaughter, Jennifer L. Hill.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, Congregational in North Conway, with the Rev. William P. Gardner officiating. Burial will be in the North Conway Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Susan Osmer

Susan Osmer, 54, of Conway, died July 30, 1999 at The Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a brief illness. She was born in Woodsville, and was the daughter of Harry and Margaret Adams of Orford.

Ms. Osmer lived in Orford for nearly 30 years prior to moving to Conway in 1997. She attended Conway Village Congregational Church, and inspired and made many friends at both the Kearsarge House in North Conway and the Kennett House in Conway.

Her family includes a son and his wife, Larry J. and Maryellen Osmer of Weymouth, Mass.; three grandchildren, James, Kevin and Stephen Mullen of Weymouth, Mass.; three sisters, Carol Riggie and Sandra Riggie, both of Woodsville, and Lorraine Williams of North Haverhill; two brothers, Bart Adams of Burlington, Vt. and Jon Adams of Piermont; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 7 at the Conway Village Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dr. Wesley Palmer officiating. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in Ms. Osmer's memory may be made to Kennett House, 25 West Main St., Conway, NH 03818.

Arrangements are by the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
