Joseph Gerald Arsenault

Joseph Gerald Arsenault, 71, of Tamworth died on September 18, 1999 at his home, after a period of failing health. He was born in Harwich, Mass., and lived in Lynn, Mass., for most of his life.

He worked as a truck driver for North East Petroleum for many years. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 842, Lynn, Mass., and also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Tamworth 10 years ago.

His family includes his wife Jennette Basilere Arsenault, of Tamworth; five sons, Dennis Arsenault of Center Ossipee, Ronald Arsenault of Lynn, Mass., Richard Arsenault of Wolfeboro, Paul Arsenault of Center Ossipee, and Gary Arsenault of Lynn, Mass.; four daughters, Carol Brown of Dover, Denise Rampelberg of Revere, Mass., Theresa Simpson of Tamworth, and Patricia Arsenault of Freedom; 16 grandchildren; a brother, Emery Arsenault of Lynn, Mass., a sister, Alice, of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Center Ossipee. Burial will be in the Grant Hill Cemetery, Center Ossipee.

Rev. Walter Larson

Rev. Walter Larson, 58, of Bartlett, died September 14, 1999 at his home following a sudden illness. He was born in Queens, N.Y., the son of Otto and Barbara Raab Larson, and had lived in Wilson, N.C. for a one year, Pawtucket, R.I. for ten years, and in Concord for 18 years before moving to Bartlett in 1996.

Rev. Larson graduated from Concordia Preparatory School in 1958 and from Concordia Junior College in 1960, both of which are in Bronxville, N.Y. He graduated from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1962 and completed his education at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., in 1967.
He served as pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wilson, N.C. in 1967 and was pastor of St. Matthew-Trinity Lutheran Church, Pawtucket, R.I. for ten years. Prior to retiring in 1996, he was pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church, Concord, for 18 years.

His family includes his wife, Barbara E. Larson of Bartlett; a son, David R. Larson of Elkridge, Md.; and a sister, Barbara Roth of Tallahassee, Fla.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 2 p.m., during visiting hours, with Bishop Robert Isaksen officiating. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, R.I.

Malcolm Earl Harriman

Malcolm Earl Harriman, 70, of North Fryeburg, died Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at his home. He was born in Fryeburg Harbor, the son of Earl and Ada Smith Harriman, and attended Fryeburg Academy.

He was an army veteran during the Korean Conflict. Years ago he was a logger and worked for the Weston family farm. For the past 13 years he has worked for Andrews Construction Company. He enjoyed hunting, trout fishing, always had a huge garden, and he liked spending time on his property at Charles Pond.

His family includes his wife of 40 years, Eunice DeWitt Harriman of North Fryeburg; a son, Harland M. Harriman of Belmont; three daughters, Helen Towle of Moultonboro, Janet Harriman of Fryeburg and Kathy Tweedie of Bangor, Maine; a brother, William Harriman of Fryeburg; a sister Carrie Melrose of Fryeburg; and four grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bradley Memorial Methodist Church in Fryeburg Harbor, with the Rev. Richard Male officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Fryeburg. Donations in Mr. Harriman's memory may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME 04037.

Arrangements are by Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

Ronald P. West

Ronald P. West, 56, of Woburn, Mass., and Stow, Maine, died Monday, September 13, 1999 in Woburn, following an extended illness.
He was born and raised in Woburn, and was the son of Stanley West Sr. and the late Jeanette Hoff West.

Mr. West graduated from Woburn High School and attended the University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, and the University of Pittsburgh. He was Assistant Chief Engineer for the Massachusetts Highway Department for many years until his retirement in July, 1998. He ran and completed the Boston Marathon in 1983 with an unofficial time of 3:40:14.23; and also held a private pilot's license. His other interests included skiing, home brewing, and rock climbing.

His family includes his wife, Marion Rubino West; his father; his sons, Raymond and Christopher, both of Woburn, and Ronald Jr. of Byfield; a sister, Sally Olsen of York Beach, Maine; two brothers, Stanley West Jr. of Plaistow and David Bergeron-West of Brimfield. He is also survived by six granchildren.

A funeral service will be held at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Road, Woburn, Mass., on Thursday, September 16 at 10 a.m. Donations in Mr. West's memory may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation of America, B800 Venice Blvd. 207, Los Angeles, CA, 90034.

Esther P. Torrey

Esther P. Torrey, 88, of Windsor, Vt., died on Monday, September 13, 1999 at the Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center's Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.

She was born January 24, 1911 in Springvale, Maine, the daughter of Asa O. and Geraldine Fitzgerald Pike II.

She graduated from Fryeburg Academy and later from Skidmore College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She married Ronald G. Gorrey in Miami Beach, Fla., on January 8, 1944. She served in several secretarial positions in the Boston, Mass., area, and later served as assistant to the Dean at Dartmouth College in Hanover for 12 years before retiring in 1972.

Mrs. Torrey was a member of the Republican Town Committee, Director of Volunteers at the Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, she served as President of the Class of 1972 at Skidmore College, was a member of the Old South Congregational Church Choir, and a member of the Windsor Community Chorus. She was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter E and was a very active skier and golfer and was a longtime member of the John P. Larkin Country Club in Windsor.

Her family includes her husband, of Windsor; a son, Edward C. Bessey of Tuscon, Ariz.; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John Pike and Asa O. Pike III.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 16 at 2 p.m. at the Old South Congregational Church in Windsor with Rev. Daniel A. Kelin officiating. Commital services will be held on Friday, September 17 at 11 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Fryeburg, Maine.

Donations in Mrs. Torrey's memory, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Activity Fund at the Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, 289 County Road, Windsor, VT, 05089.

Arrangements are by the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor, Vt.

Jean C. Sanderson

Jean C. Sanderson, 62, of Fryeburg, died Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at the Fryeburg Health Care Center. She was born in Medford, Mass., the daughter of Charles and Agnes May Sharp Cragin.

She graduated from Medford High School and from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing. She lived in Franklin for several years, and was a nurse in Rochester, Wolfeboro and Franklin. In 1963 Jean moved to Fryeburg and for several years she ran the gift shop at the Health Care Center, and for the past ten years worked at Sherman Farm Stand in East Conway. She was a member of the Fryeburg Congregational Church, Nautilus Guild, and was a secretary and treasurer of the Maine Bird Dog Club.

Her family includes her husband of 43 years, Robert L. Sanderson of Fryeburg; a son, Robert C. Sanderson of Tuscon, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Ian and Asher Sanderson.
Visiting hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Wood Funeral Home in Fryeburg.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Fryeburg Congregational Church with the Rev. Rick Small officiating, burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Fryeburg.
Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME 04037, or to the Fryeburg Health Care Gift Shop, Fairview St., Fryeburg.

Martha Neag

Dr. Martha Neag, 81, of Canfield, Ohio, and formerly of Jackson, died on September 12, 1999. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of John Maier-Neag and Jennie Onea-Zavoian.

She earned a B.A. in French from Youngstown College; a M.A. in French at New York University; and M.A. in English from Teacher's College, Columbia University; and a Ph.D. in Medieval History from Scoala De Misionare, Valenti De Munte, Romania.

During World War II, she was employed as a translator and censor for the Department of State. She was fluent in French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian and German.

She was an instructor at the Scoala De Misionare, Romania, and Hackensack, N.J.; an instructor in communications at Youngstown State University; and coordinator of the Ethnic Heritage Center, Kent State University. She was a panelist on East European poetry at the Romanian Mission Library to the United Nations, and presented papers to Seminar in Median and Minor Romance Languages, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

She also made presentations at the University of Texas, Arlington; Portland College, Portland, Oregon; Monmouth College, New Jersey; and also at Northeastern University and Boston University.

She published numerous scholastic works, and was active in all media: film, television, Broadway and off-Broadway theater. She worked with distinguished directors, actors and actresses.

She was a performer with the Cuevas Ballet, Monte Carlo, and the English Royal Ballet. She was a ballet teacher with the Rocque Gomez Foundation, Carnegie Hall. She was awarded a fellowship to teachers college in 1968, which redirected her interests toward the pursuit of scholarly research.
She traveled abroad frequently. From 1943 to 1978 she resided in New York City, before returning to Youngstown, Ohio. From 1991 to 1997 she made her home in Jackson, with a brief sojourn in Wilmington, N.C.

Her family includes a sister, Dr. Marie Neag of Canfield, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 16 at 10 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Warren, Ohio. Arrangements are by the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, Youngstown, Ohio.

Keith E. Beasley

Keith E. Beasley, 50, of Conway, died September 13, 1999 at his home. He was born January 9, 1949 in North Hampton, Mass., and lived in the Amherst, Mass., area for most of his life.

After graduating from Amherst High School, Amherst, Mass., he joined the U.S. Army and served in the 101st Airborne during Vietnam. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

His family includes his mother, Dorothy Heald Merry of Ossipee; two sisters, Holly Harris of Alton and Kathy Spielman of Durham; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Mark Dill.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in York Beach, Maine. Donations in Mr. Beasley's memory may be made to the VNA of Northern Carroll County, P.O. Box 432, North Conway, NH 03860.

Arrangements are by Lord Funeral Home of Wolfeboro and Center Ossipee.

Catherine Marie Tryder

FRYEBURG Catherine Marie Tryder, 71, of Highland Park in Fryeburg, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.

She was born in Boston, the daughter of Myles and Ann Lynch Tennihan. She graduated from Girls High School in Boston. In 1957, she moved to Maine, and for 25 years she was secretary for the superintendent of the Pittsfield Maine School Department. She was communicate of St. Agnes Church in Pittsfield. She moved to Fryeburg two years ago.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles L. Tryder Sr., of Fryeburg; one son, Charles L. Tryder Jr., of Fryeburg; three daughters, Karen Tryder, of Portland, Linda Coes, of Small Point, Maine, and Denise Porter, of Ipswich, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; and give great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were yesterday at Wood Funeral Home in Fryeburg. A funeral mass will be celebrated today (Monday) at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Route 5 in Fryeburg, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt as the celebrant.

Thomas E. Dwyer

Thomas E. Dwyer, 62, of Madison, died at home on September 1, 1999. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he spent most of his life. He was a merchant seaman with Exxon, until his retirement.

His family includes a sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Richard Goodwin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two nieces; two nephews; a great-niece; two great-nephews; and many cousins.

A memorial mass will be held on Sunday, September 19, 1999 at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Arrangements are by Lord Funeral Home of Wolfeboro and Center Ossipee.

Jules Capozzi

Jules Capozzi, 70, of Jackson, died on September 9, 1999 at his home. He was born in Hoboken, N.J., and lived in Ridgefield, N.J., and Garrison, N.Y., prior to moving to Jackson in 1991.

He had been superintendent of Electrical Construction and Design at the Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

His family includes his wife, Nancy J. Capozzi of Jackson; four sons, Jay Capozzi of Hackensack, N.J., Lee Capozzi and Dean Capozzi, both of Ridgefield, N.J., and Erik Elliott of Moscow, Pa.; four daughters, Penny Turner of Inverness, Calif., Laurie Colello of Lake Ariel, Pa., Ingrid Thomas of Stafford, Va., and Kirsten Cinquanta of Cold Spring, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-granchildren; and a sister, Anne Bena of Half Moon Bay, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Jackson Community Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Donald Graves officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Village Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. Donations in Mr. Capozzi's memory may be made to the Jackson Fire Department, Jackson, NH 03846.

Arrangements are by the Furber and White Funeral Home, North Conway.
