Capt. Richard Clayton Prescott, 58, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., formerly of Bartlett and Exeter, died Feb. 13, 2001, at his home.
Dick was born in Salem, Mass., the son of Dorothy and Clayton Prescott. He lived in Marblehead, Mass., for 30 years where he graduated from Marblehead High School in 1960. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a submariner. He was a pilot for 24 years at Eastern Airlines. For the past 10 years he worked for DHL Airways where he was a chief pilot.
As a good friend and family man, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by wife Marian (Muffy); sons Greg and Mark, and their wives Elisabeth and Leslie; his grandchildren Taylor and Tucker; brother Robert Prescott; as well as nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held on March 17 at 4 p.m. at United Church of Christ Congregational in Exeter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to David's House in Lebanon. David's House is a home away from home for families with children receiving treatment through Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
OSSIPEE - Natalie A. Hickey, 67, formerly of Moultonville Road in Ossipee, passed away Feb. 18, 2001 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro after a period of failing health.
She was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Salem, the daughter of the late Howard G. and Caroline (Tardiff) Davis. Natalie lived in Conway for several years before moving to Center Ossipee where she lived for many years. Natalie had worked at the Center Ossipee Laundromat and later at R&L Subs in Center Ossipee. She also worked at Hickeys IGA in Center Ossipee.
She is survived by a son Howard Rowell, Dawsonville, Ga.; two daughters, Andrea Shannon, Wolfeboro, and Kimberly Cates, Dawsonville, Ga.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harley Davis, Chocorua, and Jeffrey Davis, Chocorua; her sisters Carol Davis, Austin, Texas, Sharon Mott, Syracuse, Kan., and Diane Zangerine, North Conway. She was also predeceased by a sister Phyllis Cromwell.
Visiting hours will be held today (Wednesday) from noon to 1 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ordination Rock Cemetery, Tamworth, in the spring.

Margaret K. Vestner
Margaret K. Vestner died at SunBridge Healthcare in Wolfeboro on Feb. 9, 2001.
The youngest child of Dr. Victor A. and Mabel L. Kowalewski, she was born on May 28, 1913, in Orange, Conn. She attended public schools and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College. After completing her education, Molly, as she was affectionately called, was employed at Filene's in its advertising department. Subsequently, in pre-World War II, Margaret Vestner moved to an independent advertising agency in New York City. Later she became an editor for Vogue magazine until meeting her first husband, F. Graham Cunningham, to whom she married on Aug. 9, 1952. Together, in Westport, Conn., they raised Mr. Cunningham's two young children, Nancy Cunningham Kelly now of Freemont, and Cynthia Jean Barnaby now of Pompano Beach, Fla. The couple moved to Freedom on the retirement of F. Graham Cunningham in the early 1960s.
Mrs. Vestner was one of the original group of volunteers who sponsored and raised funds for the establishment of the Freedom Public Library, which later in life became her neighbor. After her first husband's death in 1973, Margaret Vestner moved into the village of Freedom from its outskirts until her marriage to Col. Eliot N. Vestner, also of Freedom, on June 5, 1974. The couple continued to reside in Freedom at Col. Vestner's home until his death in 1983. Margaret Vestner then returned to her home in the village of Freedom, beside the library, and became an avid collector of glass and antiques.
Margaret Vestner held a long career in advertising until her first marriage in 1952. Her advertising career was an ideal of today's professional women. She has always remained active in civic affairs in Westport and later in Freedom with particular interest in the Freedom Public Library and its growth.
Margaret Vestner is survived by three step-children, Nancy Kelly, Cynthia Barnaby and Eliot Vestner Jr., of Boston, Mass.; a nephew, Frederick Sandback of New York City; five grandchildren; a grand-niece and two grand nephews.
There will be no funeral services. Those who wish to make a memorial gift may do so to the Freedom Public Library, Freedom. A spring celebration in memory of Margaret Vestner will be held by her family and friends in Freedom at the convenience of the family. The Furber and White Funeral Home of North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
John Lockwood Morrison
John Lockwood Morrison, MD, of Waltham, Mass., passed away on Feb. 9, 2001 at the age of 88 in The Piety Corner Nursing Home in Waltham, Mass., where he had received loving care for the last two years of his life.
He was born in Littleton, Colo., on June 14, 1912, to Guy Wilbur Morrison and Edith Claire Lockwood Morrison. He was raised in the Oranges of New Jersey and graduated from Columbia High School in East Orange in 1931. He then went to Dartmouth College, graduating in the class of 1935. He attended Dartmouth Medical School, graduating in 1936. He then went to the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, graduating in the class of 1938. He did his internship at The Rhode Island Hospital in Providence until 1940 and did six months at the N.Y. Woman's Hospital before doing his residency at the Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Boston.
On Sept. 21, 1940, he married Jane McCoy Borland of Monongahela, Pa. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for three years in the Medical Corps, attached to the 55th General Hospital, and was stationed in many parts of Europe. After his discharge in 1945, he taught at Boston University for about six months until he and Jane moved to Waltham, where he took over the practice of obstetrics and gynecology from Dr. Henry Wood. He continued his practice in Waltham until his retirement in June of 1987.
In 1957, he and his wife purchased a house in West Ossipee, and summered there until 1999. He loved to take his boat out on Ossipee Lake and also to photograph the beauty of nature where ever he might be. He also liked to hike in the White Mountains.
He was associated with the Waltham Hospital and also with Massachusetts General Hospital and the Newton Wellesley Hospital, but his main love was the Waltham Hospital were he was head of obstetrics and gynecology for many years.
John, Mo, or "Doc" as he was known to many, was also a student of Waltham history and would always try and spread some of his knowledge whenever he could. For many years he gave guided tours of the grounds of the H.H. Richardson Paine Estate, where a walkway has lovingly been named in his honor.
He had numerous affiliations with a variety of associations. He was a past president of the Waltham Historical Society, a member of both the Twinbrook Camera Club and the Waltham Camera Club, a member of Rotary Club in Waltham and an active member of the Boy Scouts, an association he continued throughout his adult life. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and was honored for his 50 years of membership in 1998. He was a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Association, interviewing prospective students in the greater Boston area.
He is survived by his four children: John Morrison and his wife Mary-Anne of Arlington, Mass., Charles Morrison of Scarboro, Maine, Jane Morrison Davidson and her husband Rick of Freedom, and Thomas Morrison and his wife Bettina of Abtsgmuend, Germany. His grandchildren are Benjamin and Elizabeth Morrison of Arlington, Mass., Jesse Morrison of Cambridge, Mass., Johanna, Gretchen and Heidi Davidson of Freedom, and Katharina and Daniel Morrison of Abtsgmuend, Germany. His sister Edith Warrick, of Texas also survives him. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Jane Borland Morrison, who passed away Dec. 8, 2000.
A funeral will be held on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, Waltham, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waltham Historical Society in his name.
Jeanette G. French
FRYEBURG - Jeanette G. French, 73, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center after a brief period of failing health.
She was born in Center Ossipee on Jan. 30, 1928, the daughter of the late Lewis L. and Gertrude (Merrow) French. She graduated from Kennett High School in Conway in 1946.
Jeannette had lived in Center Conway for many years prior to moving to Fryeburg in 1994. She had worked at Kearsarge Hall in North Conway and Eagle Mountain House in Jackson for many years. In 1990, she retired from SAU 9 where she had worked as a cook at Pine Tree School in Center Conway for many years.
In Center Conway she was a member of the Center Conway Methodist Church; secretary of the Center Conway Cemetery Association; was active in the Center Conway Women's Society of Christian Service; the Center Conway Firemen's Auxiliary; the State of NH Grange since 1952 having been a member of the Saco Valley Grange in Center Conway and the Elmwood Grange in Conway; and a lifetime member of the Conway Historical Society.
Her pleasures included taking care of others, being with family and friends, cooking and entertaining, sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She was an excellent cook.
Her family includes a sister, Linda Smith, of Scarborough, Maine; a niece, Donna Kelley, of Morrisville, Pa.; two nephews, David Dalton, of Danville, Calif., and Jason Bridges, of Windham, Maine; five great nieces and great nephews; an uncle, Earl Merrow, of Center Ossipee; and several cousins.
Calling hours are Friday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Route 16, West Ossipee.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Center Conway Methodist Church. Spring burial will be in Center Conway Cemetery.

Peter Dominic McGreal
CONWAY - Peter Dominic McGreal, 49, died Feb. 13, 2001, at his home in Redstone after a long battle with lymphoma.
He was the son of James and Bridget (McGrath) McGreal. He was born on June 25, 1951, in North Conway, and was the first baby baptized at St. Charles Church in Conway.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frederick in 1950 and James in 1971.
As one of the early members of the American Culinary Federation in New Hampshire, Peter worked at some of the finest restaurants in Mount Washington Valley. In the 1970s, he was head garde manger at the Eating House Restaurant. In the early and mid '80s, he was executive sous chef at the Christmas Farm Inn in Jackson. In the late 1980s and early '90s, he was the night sous chef at the Fox Ridge Resort until it burned down. The last few years he worked at the North Conway Grand Hotel.
He is survived by brothers, John, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Michael, of Walden, N.Y.; a sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Robert Zock, of Ashland; four nephews; seven nieces; his Aunt Katherine Kenny, of Worcester, Mass.; several cousins; and his friends.
He was a dedicated member of the Redstone Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Mountains Cemetery later in the spring. Visiting hours will be Sunday, Feb. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Fred Gardella
JACKSON - Fred Gardella, 80, of Jackson, died Feb. 11, 2001, at Bridgton Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Boston, Mass., the son of Alfred and Amy Gardella, he grew up in Revere, Mass., and attended Dean Academy and Syracuse University. He was the husband of the late Helen Devlin Gardella.
Many remember him as the local broadcaster on WBNC radio for man years.
A lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Fred piloted C-47s over the Himalayas between China, Burma and India. In recent years, he taught several courses on this aspect of World War II, which became known as "Flying the Hump." He also lectured on the natural history of the White Mountains and was an accomplished woodcarver, writer and wildflower enthusiast. Fred could often be found walking the loop in Jackson.
He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Lewey, of Chatham; his nephews, Paul Lewey, Chris Lewey and Alan Loundsbury; nieces Sharon Fisher, Jane Lounsbury and Diane Lewey; grandnephews David Lewey, Douglas Fisher, Matthew Lounsbury, Andrew Fisher, Daniel Lounsbury and Joshua Lewey; grandnieces Susan Lozzi, Eve Scarnato, Sarah Lewey and Kristine Lewey.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Fryeburg. All friends are welcome. There will be no visiting hours. Davida T. Moore-Jumper
SANDWICH - Davida T. Moore-Jumper, 28, of North Sandwich Road, died Feb. 3, 2001, in Sandwich from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born Sept. 25, 1972, in San Bernardino, Calif., the daughter of David Moore, who passed away in 1977, and Danette (Thomas) Moore. She had lived in Riverside, Calif., for several years and graduated from Morena Valley High School. Davida later attended Riverside City College in Riverside, Calif., where she studied to be a dental hygienist. For the past three years, she had lived in Sandwich and had been employed as an aide at the Lakeview Neuro-Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Jumper, of Sandwich; two sons, Jatone Jumper and Jared Jumper, both of Sandwich; her mother, Danette Moore; sisters Roxanne Moore of Tracy, Calif., Enid McDonald of Sacramento, Calif., Twila Darkried of Chicago, Ill., Linda Moore and Leslie Moore, of Riverside, Calif.; her maternal grandfather, Ira Thomas Sr. of Long Beach, Calif.; her paternal grandmother, Rosie Hinton, of Hemet, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services were Sunday at the Lord Funeral Home in Wolfeboro.

Ralph K. Toscano
Ralph K. Toscano, 44, of Mosier, Oregon, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 in an avalanche while skiing at Jackson Hole, Wyo.
The family includes his parents, Ralph and Joanne (Lewis) Toscano of North Conway; his wife Elizabeth, and two daughters, Eliza and Hannah, of Mosier, Oregon.
Born in Boston, Toscano graduated from Wentworth Institute in 1982. He was a mechanical engineer formerly with GE International.
