OSSIPEE - Carlton V. Earle, 92, of Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee, died Friday, April 13, 2001.
Mr. Earle was born in Brattleboro, Vt., on Oct. 30, 1908. He grew up in Westminster, Mass., and attended local schools.
His career in the arts and antiques began in 1935 at the Cincinnati Art Museum, where he worked as assistant to the director. He also gave classes in weaving and pottery and other art media. Mr. Earle eventually served as interim director before moving to New York City in 1945. There he worked for Scalamandre Fabrics. He organized an exhibit of fabrics reproduced from antique or historically significant originals, and accompanied the exhibit on its tour to major museums around the country. Three years later he opened a showroom for Mr. Scalamandre in Boston.
In 1948 he married Marguerite Fawcett of Worcester and together they bought Lord's Hall in Effingham, where they lived for 27 years. In the early 1950s they established an interior decorating business in Portland, Maine, which they ran for several years. For many years Mr. Earle was a local antiques dealer. In 1975 he and his wife moved to Ossipee.
He was predeceased by his wife in 1991. Mr. Earle is survived by his son Peter C. Earle of Freedom, and by his two grandsons, Jason P. Earle of Effingham and Brian P. Earle of Ossipee.
At Mr. Earle's request, there will be no funeral service. Private burial will take place at a later date.

NOTTINGHAM - Kevin J. McGloughlin, 46, of Lavoie Drive in Nottingham, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home in Nottingham after a period of failing health.
Born Sept. 14, 1954, in Boston, Mass., he was the son of the late Gerard and Catherine (Manning) McGloughlin. He was raised in Boston and graduated from high school there. He lived in Newmarket for 20 years and moved to Nottingham two years ago. The family also owned a home in Tamworth, where Kevin enjoyed snowmobiling.
He owned and operated McGloughlin Painting in Newmarket for over 20 years. He restored sports cars and sponsored a Sunday evening men's league basketball team.
He was predeceased by his brother, John McGloughlin, who died in 1986.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Lou Ann (Hubbard) McGloughlin, of Nottingham; three daughters, Tricia Ann Orcutt and her husband Matthew of Manchester, Jill Marie Dorestant and her husband Frederick of Plaistow, and Keri Jean McGloughlin of Nottingham; two grandchildren, Frederick Dorestant Jr. and Nashia Dorestant, both of Plaistow; three brothers, Richard McGloughlin of Boston, Gerard McGloughlin Jr. of Dedham and Peter McGloughlin of West Roxbury; a sister, Janet Wallace of North Berwick, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be today (Tuesday) from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket, with the Rev. John Finnigan as celebrant. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

Donald M. Lawler of Pioneer, Calif., died March 31, 2001, at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson, Calif.
Mr. Lawler was born on April 4, 1937 in Brownfield, Maine, the son of Melvin and Marion (Crabtree) Lawler.
Mr.. Lawler attended school in Brownfield and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg.
Mr. Lawler lived and worked in Connecticut for a few years, then he moved to Sunnyvale, Calif. He worked for Woldridge in Sunnyvale, Calif., and Fairchild in Mountain View, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. Afterwards he returned to Fairchild and then Fluorocarbon in Mountain View, Calif. He moved to Pioneer, Calif., 17 years ago to work for Moore Precision Manufacturing Co.
He greatly enjoyed visiting with friends.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Lawler, of Susanville, Calif., and Donald Lawler, James Lawler and Stephen Lawler, all of Modesto, Calif.; brothers Edmun Lawler of Freedom, Rodney Lawler of Elyria, Ohio, and Harlan Lawler of Milpitas, Calif.; a sister, Mavis Jones, of San Jose, Calif.; his former wife, Donna Lawler, of Modesto, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services took place April 5 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, Calif. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
FRYEBURG - Thomas E. McSherry, 89, of 65 Main Street, passed away April 12, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
Mr. McSherry was born in Lewiston, Maine, Sept. 10, 1911, the son of John and Mae Irving McSherry. He moved to Fryeburg in 1931, and married Dorothy Hall of Fryeburg in 1933.
Mr. McSherry was one of Maine's first licensed arborists. He founded McSherry's Tree Service, which included aerial spraying operating out of the old Fryeburg Airport, present site of Dearborn Corp., of Fryeburg Industrial Park. In 1933 he founded McSherry's Apple Orchard in Sweden, Maine. In 1963, he founded McSherry's Nursery of Center Conway. He was tree warden of Fryeburg during the 1930s, '40 and '50s, as well as numerous surrounding towns. Mr. McSherry was a long-time active member of the Fryeburg Kiwanis Club, Pythagorean Lodge of Masons. He was an avid sportsman, interested in hunting, fishing and wildlife habitat preservation.
He is survived by one daughter, Gail McSherry, two sons, John and Ned McSherry, four grandchildren, Paige Fox, Bethany Higdon, Stephanie and Lizzy McSherry, and two great grandchildren, Nicholus and Kendra Fox, all of Fryeburg. He was predeceased by his wife in 1996 and a granddaughter, Katherine McSherry, in 1992.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Church of New Jerusalem, Oxford Street, Fryeburg. Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
Malcolm C. Smith, 69, of Schaumburg, Ill., a retired United Airlines flight dispatcher, died of a stroke Friday, March 30, 2001, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
Malcolm was born and raised in Conway and graduated from Kennett High School in 1949. In 1950 he joined the Marine Corps, and, upon completion of his tour, went to work for Capital Airlines in Washington, D.C. Later Capital and United Airlines merged, and Malcolm was eventually with United Airlines, working at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Malcolm moved to the United Airlines main office in Chicago in 1981 and finished his career in 1995 after 42 years.
He leaves his wife Theresa; sister Velda of Conway; brothers Decosta of Houston, Texas, Norman of Jacksonville, Fla., Ronald of Pike, NH, and Gene and Carroll both of Dover, NH. Malcolm's parent's, Henry C. and Sadie (Robinson) Smith, and one sister, Ferne, predeceased him.
Visitation and services were held Tuesday, April 3, at 11 a.m. in Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 South Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village, Ill.
CONWAY - Alexander Kim Mitchell, 16, of Conway, passed away April 6, 2001, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover.
Alex attended Conway Elementary School and Kennett Junior/Senior High School. He was currently attending Proctor Academy in Andover. Alex loved writing and reading and, most recently, was interested in poetry. He was very active in sports, participating in cross county, track, skiing, and lacrosse. Alex's real passion was hockey and he spent many hours at the Ham Arena as an assistant coach for the MWV Youth Hockey League and taught Learn To Play Hockey classes. Alex also had a deep love for animals and volunteered at the Loki Wolf Clan in the past. He was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and had made the dean's list at Proctor.
He is survived by his parents Gaie and John Mitchell and his sister, Kaela. He will also be missed by his cousins, Eliza, Helene and Jane; and his aunts and uncles Gwen and Steve Kenney, Guy Hampson, Leslie and Tom Britton, and Kathie and Robert Hurt.

Lester W. Campbell, 75, of Glen died April 6, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a long illness. Born in Jamacia, N.Y., he had lived in Lynn, Mass. for 10 years and in Wilmington, Mass. for 20 years before moving to Glen in 1991.
Mr. Campbell served in the Merchant Marines for 10 years in the 1940s and early 1950s. He was a ticket agent for Delta Airlines, in Boston, for 15 years and he had been a freight agent and driver with Dave's Motor Freight, in Boston, for 15 years. For the past nine, he had worked at Heritage New Hampshire in Glen during the summer and worked at Attitash Bear Peak in Bartlett during the winter months.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Malden, Mass. and he had been a volunteer at the Gibson Center for Senior Services for the past nine years.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara A. Campbell of Glen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Etta M. (Pelletier) Gillespie, 53, of Lincoln, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at the Hospice House in New Port Richey, Fla., after a brief battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of William Gillespie, with whom she shared more than 34 years of marriage.
Born in Beverly, Mass., on March 31, 1947, daughter of the late Adelard and Alexina (Beaulieu) Pelletier, she was raised in Beverly, Mass., and graduated from Beverly High School, class of 1965. She lived in Beverly, Mass., most of her life before moving to East Wakefield, NH, 13 years ago. She also resided in North Conway before moving to Lincoln three years ago.
Mrs. Gillespie worked for Desjardins Jewelers in Beverly, Mass., for many years. She also worked 20 years as a waitress at various fine restaurants in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. For the past three years, she worked at Pollard Brook in Lincoln as a sales representative.
Prior to relocated to Lincoln, she was actively involved in the Eastern Slope Ski Club as a volunteer ski instructor. She was also a member of the Mountain Meisters.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Steven Gillespie, of Conway, and Kevin Gillespie and his wife Sabrina, of Sanford, Maine; three sisters, Carol Flannigan and Mary Cotraro, both of Beverly, Mass., and Lucille Russo, of Glen; two brothers, Roland Beaulieu, of Beverly, Mass., and Robert Pelletier, of Nashua; two grandchildren, Brendon Gillespie, of Lowell, Mass., and Matthew Gillespie, of Sanford, Maine; as well as seven nephews and four nieces.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at the Jackson Community Church in Jackson. A reception will follow the services.

BELMONT Reginald G. Bartlett, 75, of Belmont, died Thursday evening, March 29, 2001, at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.
He was born July 24, 1925, in Lovell, Maine, the son of the late Edward Nelson and Alegura (McAllister) Bartlett.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving both in the European and Pacific Theaters. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Area Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon.
He had been a resident of Connecticut for many years, prior to moving to Maine in 1968. From there, he moved to New Hampton in 1971, and recently resided in Belmont since 1995.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Aavid Engineering as a lead man.
He is a member of the Odd Fellows of Portland, Conn., Wilkins-Smith Post 1 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1670, and a former member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks BPOE 876.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ola L. (Burbank) Bartlett of Belmont; sons Walter C. "Junior" Bartlett of Yuba City, Calif., Gardiner E. Bartlett of Sweden, Maine, and Reginald N. "Rick" Bartlett of Boscawen; a daughter, Nancy L. Garland of Ashland; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward M. Bartlett of Fryeburg, Ronald N. Bartlett of Middletown, Conn., Lloyd R. Bartlett of E. Hampton, Conn., H. Wayne Bartlett of Raymond, Maine, and R. Lindon Bartlett of Brownfield, Maine; sisters, Carlene Colbath of Conway and Sandra J. Lacy of E. Rochester; several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at the Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Avenue, Laconia, with the Rev. Everett Palmer, pastor of the Ashland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Oakland Cemetery, Meredith.

Wallace T. Sanphy, 89, of North Conway, died April 1, 2001, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway after a brief illness.
Born in Boston, Mass., the son of John and Blanche (Towle) Sanphy, he was a lifelong resident of North Conway.
Mr. Sanphy graduated from Kennett High School, class of 1930, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was employed by the N.H. State Liquor Commission in Conway for 39 years, retiring in 1974 as manager. After retirement, he worked at Shaw's Supermarket in North Conway for 15 years.
He was a charter member and commander, in 1950, of North Conway American Legion Post 95. He was also a member of the former North Conway Outing Club.
The family includes two sons, Donald L. Sanphy and his wife, Joan, of Conway, and David R. Sanphy and his wife, Mary, of Concord; two daughters, Loretta M. Bennett of Somersworth and Arlene S. Fleming of Fryeburg, Maine; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
His wives, Pauline M. Sanphy in 1973 and Eleanor P. Sanphy in 1999 and a grandson, Robert D. Bennett in 2001, predeceased him.
Graveside services will be held in the Conway Village Cemetery later in the spring. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Donations may be sent to the North Conway Library, P.O. Box 409, North Conway NH 03860.
Norman H. Pattberg, 79, of Hudson, Fla., passed away on Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Regional Medical Center in Bayonet Point, Fla.
He was born in New Haven, Conn., and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a social studies teacher at Housatonic Regional High School in Falls Village, Conn., for many years. He was a member of the Beacon Woods East Homeowners' Association.
His wife, Mary Buzzell Pattberg of Hudson, Fla., and many nephews and nieces survive him.

Maurice H. Maynard, 82, of West Warwick, R.I., died on Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick, R.I.
He was the husband of Rita (Hebert) Maynard. They had been married for 57 years.
He was born in West Warwick, R.I., on Jan. 20, 1919, a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Bombardier-Barber) Hebert.
He worked in the maintenance department at Kenney Manufacturing in Warwick, R.I., retiring in 1987.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as staff sergeant, and participated in battles in the Western Pacific, South Philippines and Ryukyus.
He was a communicant of St. John Baptist Church in West Warwick, R.I., and a member of the Holy Name Society of that parish.
He is survived by his wife; two sons Kevin Maynard of Eaton, and Gregory Maynard of Warwick, R.I.; and five grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Leona Finnerty and Leo, Gerard, Frank, and Joseph Maynard.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Raoul G. Henault & Son Funeral Home, 5 Eddy Street, West Warwick, R.I., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John Baptist Church, Washington Street, West Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in the R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, R.I.
Flora M. Allen, 71, of Lovell died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Bridgton Hospital. She was born in Norway, Maine the daughter of Raymond A. and Marion Millett Damon and was educated in Norway schools. She had lived in Lovell for the past 49 years and worked many years for Severance Lodge in Lovell, and for the last 15 years she worked for the Fryeburg Health Care in their kitchen. She was a member of the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Pondicherry Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Lovell United Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and traveling.
She was predeceased by her husband Clyde H. Allen in 1982 and two brothers Ralph and Earl Damon, and a half-brother Merle Millet. She is survived by one son Wallace C. Allen of Lovell, Maine; one daughter Anna M. Nevells of Bridgton, Maine; one brother Raymond Damon of Limington, Maine; two sisters Margaret Damon of Standish, Maine and Vera Colby of Limington, Maine; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Wood Funeral Home, 12 Warren Street, Fryeburg. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Lovell United Church of Christ with the Rev. Ronald Ashworth officiating. Spring burial will be in #4 Cemetery, Lovell.

Elizabeth "Betty" Fenderson, 63, of Freedom passed away March 30, 2001 at her home after a brief illness. She was born November 4, 1937 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Frederick Moore and Beatrice (Colby) Knox. Betty had lived in West Ossipee for many years before moving to Effingham and Freedom. She had been employed as a Nurse's Aide at the Mountain View Nursing Home, Ossipee for several years. She was the widow of the late Robert Fenderson.
Betty is survived by her loving daughters Debra Williams of Freedom and Cindy Cook of Tamworth; two granddaughters Telie Shannon and Melissa Cox; four great-grandsons; a brother Douglas Thurston of Center Ossipee; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held in the Chickville Cemetery, Center Ossipee, in the Spring.
