Vinson Taggersell

RYE - Vinson E. "Vin" Taggersell, 74, widower of Rolean E. (Keil) Taggersell of 171 Locke Road, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Bronx, N.Y. on July 13, 1926, the son of Eldon and Florence (O’Hara) Taggersell.

Mr. Taggersell was graduate of Tenafly High School in Tenafly, N.J. He attended Carnegie Tech in N.J., Fairleigh Dickerson and Columbia University.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Taggersell worked locally for many years at McFarland Ford.

He derived great satisfaction through his volunteerism at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital and established many new friendships. Throughout his life,

Mr. Taggersell enjoyed spending time with his family and especially the 48 years of marriage to his wife Rolean.

He was much loved and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Mr. Taggersell was also an avid train collector and a builder of model trains.

Survivors include a daughter, Vilean Taggersell and her husband, Robert of Portland, Maine; three sons, Lance Taggersell of Exeter, Scott Taggersell and his wife, Kathleen of Kennebunk, Maine and Brandt Taggersell of Rye; six grandchildren, Kai Taggersell, Cara Taggersell, Sean Taggersell, Lili Taggersell, Renata Levine and Caleb Levine; a brother, Carl Taggersell of Sparta, N.J.; a nephew; and his dog, Ginger.

A Memorial Service will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Friends invited.

There will be no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Guild at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, 333 Borthwick Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801 to benefit the Portsmouth Regional Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Services.

Hildegard Taylor

DOVER - Hildegard Taylor, 86, of Court St., died Feb. 7, 2001, at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Berlin, Germany on May 23, 1914, the daughter of Gustav and Lieselotte (Schultz) Kakosch.

Members of the family include her husband Herbert R. Taylor of Dover, a son, Volker Erdmann of Germany, a sister Margaret Littlefield of Fla., and her grandchildren, Journ, Gabriella, Tracey and Richard Erdmann.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at First Parish Church, Dover.

Following cremation at Oyster River Crematory, Barrington, Mrs. Taylor will be buried in the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Parish Church, 218 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover.

Inza H. Gile

CONCORD - Inza H. Gile died, a former long time resident of Franklin, died Aug. 23 at Pleasant View Center at the age of 100.

She was born in Machias, Maine, on Jan. 15, 1904, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Willis M. Hall.

She graduated from Machias High School, where she played basketball. She was a graduate of Washington State Normal School, now the University of Maine at Machias. Following college, she taught in the elementary grades of schools in Sherman Station, Maine, Concord, Mass., Durham.

She was married in 1931 to Alonzo R. Gile of Northfield. They lived in Providence, R.I. and New Bedford, Mass., before returning to New Hampshire where Mr. Gile established Gile’s Dairy in Franklin in 1940. Following his death in 1961, Mrs. Gile assumed an active role in the business by taking over the management of Gile’s Dairy Bar.

Mrs. Gile was involved in many community and state organizations and activities, including the Peabody Home, Spaulding Youth Center and the Visiting Nurse Association. She particularly enjoyed her membership in the Franklin Woman’s Club, which she served as President, the New Hampshire Federation of Women’s Clubs, where she held a state office, and in her association with the Franklin United Methodist Church, participating there in many capacities.

An achievement of which she was particularly proud was an ascent of Mount Katahdin and the traverse of the "Knife Edge" to Pamola. In addition, Mrs. Gile loved poetry, and well into here 90s she could recite many poems she memorized in her youth. During her teaching career, she enjoyed kindling an interest in poems among her students.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Erma Buzzell and Mrs. Lilith Bangs, both of Machias, Maine, and Mrs. Gertrude Deuchars of Pasadena, Calif.; two sons, Robert Gile of Concord, and Bradford Gile of Wolfeboro; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The H.L. Young & Company Memorial Home, 175 South Main St., Franklin is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours and services will be private, with a memorial service to be held in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Franklin United Methodist Church, 88 Franklin St., Franklin, NH 03235 or the Tilton School, 30 School St., Tilton, NH 03276 are encouraged.

William and Diana Truman

TUFTONBORO - William "Bill" H.M. Truman, 62, of Melvin Village died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, from complications due to a stroke.

He was married to Diana L. Truman who died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004.

Mr. Truman was born Aug. 9, 1942, in Evanston, Ill., the son of the late Francis and Charlotte (Hinds) Truman.

Mr. Truman graduated in 1961 from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, and graduated from St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., in 1965.

He was an avid golfer and tennis player, yachtsman and loved being a private pilot.

Mr. Truman was self-employed as an investor.

Mr. Truman, his family wrote, "enjoyed life and his family and friends, organizing many golf outings for his golfing buddies. He had a warm, easy smile and a sharp sense of humor."

Survivors include his three daughters, Jennifer B. Truman of Gilford, Nicole D.T. Harding and her husband, Jeffrey, of Meredith, and Melanie B. Truman of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Madeline Truman of Orlando, Fla., and Eleanor Harding and Melanie Harding, both of Meredith; and two nephews, Edward Cummings and his wife, Rhonda, and William Cummings all of Tucson, Ariz. Survivors also include his recently discovered birth family siblings, Jackie Heddleston, Richard Barron, Ronnie Liebig and Randy Liebig.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Truman was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Cummings.

Calling hours for Mr. and Mrs. Truman will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, from 6-9 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A funeral service for Mr. & Mrs. Truman will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, PO Box 1097, Meredith, NH 03253 or the American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.

Diana L. Truman

TUFTONBORO - Diana "Dani" L. Truman, 60, of Melvin Village, died Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, from complications due to a stroke.

She was married to William H.M. Truman who died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004.

Mrs. Truman was born Dec. 8, 1943, in Fort Smith, Ark., the daughter of Albert and Iris (Cook) Lewis.

Mrs. Truman graduated in 1961 from W. Tresper Clarke High School, Long Island, N.Y., and graduated from St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., in 1965.

She was the former co-owner of the Plant Petaler Florist in Laconia.

She was a world traveler as well as an avid artist and her lifetime hobby was home renovation and interior decorating.

She was a breast cancer survivor, a member of the Art League of Ocean Reef, Fla., and a member of the Bok Tower Historical Society in Lake Wales, Fla.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jennifer B. Truman of Gilford, Nicole D.T. Harding and her husband, Jeffrey, of Meredith, and Melanie B. Truman of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Madeline Truman of Orlando, Fla., and Eleanor Harding and Melanie Harding, both of Meredith; a brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Frances Lewis of Essex Junction, Vt.; two nephews, Nathaniel Lewis of Essex Junction, Vt., and Jonathan Lewis and his wife Alison of Cambridge, Mass.; and a niece, Amanda Lewis and her husband Nicholas
Feat of Portland, Ore.

Calling hours for Mr. and Mrs. Truman will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, from 6-9 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A funeral service for Mr. and Mrs. Truman will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia.

Lora J. Billings

LACONIA - Lora J. Billings, 97, formerly of Mile Hill Road, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the Belknap County Nursing Home, Laconia .

She was the widow of Kenneth W. Billings who died Feb. 27, 1992.

Mrs. Billings was born March 8, 1907, in Grand Lake Stream, Maine, the daughter of Freeman and Myrtie (Bryant) French.

She grew up in Belmont and also lived in Worcester, Mass., Sanbornton, Laconia, and Meredith.

She and her husband were married for 67 years.

During World War II, Mrs. Billings worked in a factory assembling first aid kits. Later, she was a cook in the cafeteria at Laconia High School cafeteria for many years and was fondly known as "Billy." She made sure that the football team received generous helpings.

Of Mrs. Billings, her family wrote, "She will always be remembered for giving help and care to anyone in need. She was in fact the wind beneath so many of our wings. When she was no longer able to give to others, she was helped by the strong and loving care of the Belknap County Nursing Home staff. She will be sorely missed."

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia C. and Harold Knowlton, of Laconia; a grandchild, Kenneth Knowlton and his companion, Barbara Garneau of Belmont; many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246.
