Vernabelle Willmott

CONCORD - Vernabelle "Verna" Blaine. Willmott, 67, of 1 Old Loudon Road in Concord, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000 at Concord Hospital.

She was born in Concord, Vt., July 1, 1933, the daughter of Peter and Hazel (Spencer) LaBounty. She lived in the Sanbornton, Tilton and Franklin areas for most of her life, moving to Concord eight years ago.

She was a homemaker and known for her musical career.

She was predeceased by her husband, Warren S. Willmott Sr. who died Feb. 24, 1986.

Her family includes five sons, Warren S. Willmott Jr. of Franklin, Paul V. Willmott of So. Portland, Maine, Vincent R. Willmott of Goffstown, James D. Willmott of Concord, and the Rev. John Daniels of Maine; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna John of Laconia and Betty Daniels of Maine; nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A service will be held for family members at a later time.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Lung Association of NH, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110.

The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is in charge.

Thelma E. Dustin

NORTHFIELD —Thelma E. Dustin, 91, formerly of Bristol and Northfield, died at Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith on Oct. 12, 2000.

She was born in Haverhill, on Jan. 18, 1909, the daughter of Edward and Leona (George) Adams. After living in Bristol for many years, she later resided on Howard Avenue in Northfield.

Mrs. Dustin was the widow of Stephen Raymond Dustin who died in 1973.

Family members include two daughters, Barbara Richardson of Moultonboro and Joyce Chase of Northfield; a son, Stephen Dustin of Manchester; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Rousseau, of Orr’s Island, Maine, who died in 1998.

Private funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 16 at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, Northfield. Burial followed in Park Cemetery, Tilton.

Donations in memory of Mrs. Dustin may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

William W. Geider

FRANKLIN - William Walter Geider, 77, formerly of Ivy Lane in Franklin, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

He was born in Franklin, Nov. 8, 1922, son of the late William and Sophie (Mazur) Geider. He lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years, graduating from Brooklyn Tech. He moved to Franklin in 1954.

He was a US Army Veteran, serving as Sergeant, 879 Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific.

He was employed for over 20 years with Webster Valve Inc. in Franklin, working in the maintenance department there.

He was active with area youth groups including CYO, Boy Scouts and Little League. He was a former member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks and Knights of Columbus in Franklin. He served as a two-term Councilman for the City of Franklin.

He was very active and a communicant of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helena "Lee" E. (Schmieg) Geider.

His family includes two sons, William L. Geider of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. and Kenneth G. Geider of Barre, Vt.; three grandchildren; a sister, Constance Mammino of Penfield, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Interment took place Oct. 17 in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery Chapel.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Visiting Nurse Association of Franklin, 75 Chestnut St., Franklin, NH 03235 or to the Resident Christmas Fund, New Hampshire Veterans Home, Winter Street, Tilton, NH.

The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is in charge.

Else Jensen

DOVER - Else Jensen, 92, of 8 Farmington Drive, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Rochester Manor after a brief illness.

She was born in Trondheim, Norway, Aug. 1, 1908, the daughter of Olaf and Reidun Milde.

Having lost both parents when she was 10 years old, she was raised by an aunt and uncle in Sandnessjoen, Norway, an island just below the Arctic Circle.

With her husband, she owned and operated Cabinland Motel in Plainville, Mass., for 36 years.

She was active in civic affairs, serving as president of the Parent Teachers Association, director of the local Salvation Army and the Plainville, Mass., Industrial Development Committee, and as a member of the Sons of Norway, the J Plainville United Methodist Church and its Women’s Club.

She had resided in Dover since 1985. She worked at Mountain View Restaurant at Nippo Lake Golf Club, a family owned business, from 1985 until March 1997.

She was an avid reader who loved poetry, politics and people.

The family includes a son, Lloyd Jensen of Alton; a daughter, Elizabeth Dittrich of Center Barnstead; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd A. Jensen Sr.

Dorothy Cate

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Dorothy Houghton Cate, 70, of New Bedford, died on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000 at home. She was the wife of Dexter E. Cate.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Eleanor (Rawcliffe) Houghton.

She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1948, and received her associate degree in media from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vt.

She served in the US Air Force in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

Mrs. Cate was a member of the Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven and served as clerk of the Society for several years as well as an active member of several committees of her Church. Over the years she had resided in Fairhaven, Meredith and Alexandria, N.H., Waterford, Vt., and then back to Fairhaven and three years ago moved to New Bedford.

She had served on the School Board in Newfound, N.H., area school district of Bristol, N.H., and was a former Rotarian with the Fairhaven Chapter.

She especially enjoyed her art class locally with Cindy Richard and currently has some of her paintings on display in New Bedford City Hall.

Traveling and sailing held her keen interest and she was indeed fond of her pet cat, Annie.

For several years she was a licensed real estate broker with Century 21-Hughes and Carey Real Estate.

Survivors include her husband, Dexter E. Cate of New Bedford; two sons, Christopher Polansky Manchester, N.H. and Richard Polansky and his wife, Judith (Smith) Polansky, of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Eleanor Hendricks and her husband, Norman Hendricks, of Dover, N.H.; her brother, Richard Houghton of New Bedford; her sisters, Eleanor Rose of Fairhaven and Jean Allen of New Bedford; her stepdaughter, Barbara Cate Hall of New Bedford; her stepson, John M. Cate and his wife, Mary-Carol (Sousa) Cate, of So. Dartmouth; five grandchildren, Michael Polansky, Jessica Polansky, Matthew Cate, Christopher Cate, Richard Sanders; and several nieces.

Her memorial service will take place Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Unitarian Memorial Church in Fairhaven. Arrangements are with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, Mass.

Faith S. Carey

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Faith Seaver Carey, 94, died in New York City on Oct. 1, 2000, following a short illness.

Born in 1905 in Jersey City, N.J., of Salvation Army officer parents, Florence and Thomas Seaver, she was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 1927. In September 1928, she married Captain Edward Carey. Thereupon commenced a succession of appointments to men’s rehabilitation centers, local Salvation Army Corps, Divisional and Territorial Headquarters where Mrs. Carey shared in the ministry with particular emphasis on women’s issues and worked with teenage girls.

While in Northern Ohio as the director of Women’s Services, Mrs. Carey developed a 500-member Women’s Auxiliary for the city of Cleveland. During these years in Cleveland, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of United Church Women and headed the Spiritual Life Committee of this group. Later, in New York, (1960-63) Mrs. Carey was the Salvation Army representative to the Council of United Church Women for New York City.

Next came orders to international headquarters in London, where the Careys served as International Secretary for the Americas.

In 1968, they were appointed Eastern Territorial Commander and President of Women’s Organizations. Following this assignment, they served as National Commander and National President of Women’s Organizations, until their retirement from active service in 1972.

After retirement, Commissioner and Mrs. Carey settled in Laconia where she was instrumental in forming a Women’s Auxiliary in support of the local Salvation Army Service Center. She also developed her interest in the outdoors by hiking and taking up cross-country skiing.

Faith Seaver Carey’s life influenced many through her friendship and leadership roles during her long service as an active Salvation Army Officer and in retirement. One comrade described her as "so real, so down-to-earth and light hearted that she was like a breath of fresh air." Others noted she was a woman who "had a natural sense of humor blended with holiness" and as "a person in whose presence others felt uplifted."

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Edward; a sister, Florence Squibb of Manhattan; son, Donald of Gilford, N.H.; daughters, Constance Jones of Santa Cruz, Calif. and Florence Kim of Marietta, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Monmouth Memorial Park, Neptune, N.J., on Oct. 21. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, November 4 at 11 a.m. at the Williams Residence, 720 West End Ave., New York, NY 10025-6299.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army at the above address, to further resident amenities.
