Madeline E. Cote

Haverhill, Mass. - Madeline E. (Beach) Cote, 94, died Nov. 28, 2004 at The Oxford.

Born Oct. 28, 1910 in Meredith, she was the daughter of Perley and Viola (Harvey) Beach. She was educated in the Meredith school system and graduated from Meredith High School in 1928.

She moved to Haverhill in the early 1940s and was employed as a nurse’s aide at Stevens-Bennet Home.

Mrs. Cote enjoyed reading and knitting.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard J. Cote, in 1971.

The family includes a son, Leonard Cote of North Carolina; three daughters, Marguerite A. Hall of Unity, Jean E. McKinstry of Satsuma, Fla., and Joanne P. Delaney of Hampstead; a brother, Richard Beach of Meredith; two sisters, Alice Storer and Margaret Cogan, both of Meredith; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Nancy J. Clark

LANGDON - Nancy Jane Gilmore Clark, 68, of Currier Road, died Dec. 1, 2004 at home.

Born Dec. 25, 1935 in Norwood, Mass., she was the daughter of Frederick H. and Rachael (Whitaker) Gilmore. She was a graduate of Walpole High School, Walpole, Mass., and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She worked at the Walpole Wood Workers in Walpole and was a secretary at the famous Parker House in Boston.

Mrs. Clark married Alvin L. Clark on Oct. 20, 1956 in Walpole, Mass. They won "Young Couple of the Year" honors in the N.H. State Grange in 1962 - both being seventh degree members.

When her last child went to college, she reentered the work force for 8 1/2 years at Savings Bank of Walpole in the bookkeeping department. She was busy making maple products and working for the family business, Clark’s Sugar House.

The family includes her husband, of Langdon; three sons, Stephen A. Clark of Chesapeake, Va., David W. Clark of Langdon, and Bruce F. Clark of Yarmouthport, Mass.; a daughter, Marcia J. Clark of Rochester; five grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Park of Tiverton, R.I., Coralee DiMeco of Keene and Lois Dauley of Franklin, Mass.

M. Susan Richards

GILFORD - M. Susan Richards, 63, of Intervale Road, died March 15, 2005, at Lakes Region General Hospital, in Laconia. Born in Laconia on June 5, 1941, she was the daughter of Norman and Clotilde Perreault. She grew up in Laconia and graduated from Laconia High School, class of 1959. She also was a graduate of Margaret’s School of Cosmetology, in Concord. She resided in Laconia for many years and in Meredith for over 25 years. She had been a resident of Gilford for the past seven years.

She worked for several years at Gloria’s Beauty Shop in Laconia and had also been a volunteer at Golden View Health Care Center, in Meredith. She was a past member of the Meredith Garden Club, Meredith. She was predeceased by a sister, Noreen Wading.

Survivors include two children, Jennifer R. McKenna of Gilford and William F. Richards III of Meredith; three grandchildren: Brianne Plancon of Utica, N.Y., Tyson McKenna of Gilford, and Brittni-Linne Mckenna of Gilford; one brother, Michael Perreault of Pembroke; a sister, Catherine Luneau of Edgewater, Fla.; Several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring, in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia. The Mayhew Funeral Home, in Meredith, is in charge of the arrangements.

Sharon S. LaBonte

GILFORD -- Sharon S. LaBonte, 57, of Chalet Drive died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.

She was born in Plymouth on June 12, 1947, the daughter of the late Bert St. Cyr and Mona (Reed) Whitney of Meredith. She attended Laconia schools. After graduation from Laconia High School, she resided in the Manchester area and during that time she attended St. Anselm College.

She worked for the R.J. Reynolds Company for several years as a salesperson.

She enjoyed summers on Squam Lake where she was an avid swimmer, boater and water skier. She shared 19 years of marriage withy Robert J. LaBonte of Gilford.

She is survived by her husband, Robert J. LaBonte of Gilford; her mother, Mona (Reed) Whitney of Meredith; her Son, Adam St. Cyr of Lincoln; her grandson, Matthew St. Cyr of Glens Falls, N.Y.; her uncle, Gerard St. Cyr and his wife, Connie of Northfield; two step sons, Kevin and Randy LaBonte; and her niece, Mary Lou St. Cyr.

A private funeral service will be held by the convenience of the family. The Mayhew Funeral Home, Meredith is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald J. Pittman

GILFORD - Donald J. Pittman, 68, of 303 Old Lakeshore Rd., Gilford, died Thursday morning, April 21, 2005, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Leo and Bridget (Dicks) Pittman. He was educated in the Boston (MA) School System and was a long time reident of Easton,MA. He moved to Gilford in 1994, upon his retirement.

He was employed as a truck driver for Time DC of Charlestown, Mass., and was a member of the Teamsters Local #25 of Charlestown, Mass.

He is survived by his wife, Jane (Williams) Pittmanof Gilford; four sons, Robert S. of Braintree, Mass., Douglas A. of Mansfield, Mass., Alfred E. and Russell W., both of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Michael Pittman of Dedham, Mass., and Joseph Pittman of Falmouth, Mass.; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to make special acknowledgements to Drs. Lawrence Rush, Samjot Dhillon and Gregory Smull for all their help and care.

There are no calling hours and burial will be private in Fairview Cemetery, Westford, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, 780 N. Main St., Laconia, NH, 03246.

The Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Ave., Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Alfreda M. Manley

BELMONT - Alfreda M. Manley, 75, of 311 Province Road died on Thursday, April 21, 2005.

She was born August 30, 1929, in Laconia, the daughter of Alfred and Beatrice (Brace) Wentworth. She was a life long resident of the Lakes Region and was employed at Miss Pappas' Dress Shop for several years.

She was part of the family of the New Covenant Christian Church in Laconia. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved dancing, fishing, crocheting, camping and oystering.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, Arnold Manley, of Belmont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and James Morel, of Gilford, and Wendy and Paul Gagne of Newport, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Tarah Morel-Taylor of Gilford; Aaron Morel of Laconia; Ryan Gagne of Tallahassee, Fla. and Derek Gagne and Adam Gagne, both of Newport, Tenn.; four great grandchildren, Ashley Morel, Ian Taylor, Morgan Taylor and Brayden Taylor all of Gilford; a brother Alfred Wentworth, of Belmont; a sister, Anne Boulanger, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and several nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia.

Burial will be held at a later date in the family lot at Union Cemetery, Laconia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Covenant Christian Church, (Benevolence Fund or Building Fund), 708 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH. 03246.

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Maria D. Elwell

LACONIA - Maria D. Elwell, 82, of 14 Gilford Avenue died Wednesday in Lakes Region General Hospital after a period of failing health. She was born in Laconia on March 5, 1923, the daughter of Leonelle and Almande (Lavoie) Cartier.

She was a graduate of Laconia Hospital School of Nursing and worked most of career as a private duty nurse. For a period of time, Maria lived in Massachusetts and Florida prior to her return to Laconia.

She was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Church and was an early organizer of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was pre-deceased by two husbands, Alexander Rudzinski on May 15, 1988 and Charles Elwell on January 15, 2005.

She enjoyed crocheting and was devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family members include five daughters, Julijone Flanders of Laconia, Charlene Lizotte of Franklin, Aleta Tibbetts of Center Ossipee, Priscilla Slannery of Boston, Mass. and Veronica Rudzinski of Laconia; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Coyla of Florida, Annette Lessard of Conn. And Rita Paquette of Florida; three brothers, Henry Cartier of New York, Rudolph Cartier of Laconia and Robert Cartier of Florida; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. Friday from 6-8 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St. Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev Gary Kosmowski, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Lambert Cemetery.

Mary L. Senna

BELMONT - Mary L. Senna, 72, of 616 Bean Hill Road, died at the Genesis Eldercare Network-Laconia Center on Wednesday, April 20, 2005.

She was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Laconia, the daughter of Roy and Evelyn (DeHart) Tardy. She was a lifetime resident of the Lakes Region and was employed at Vernitron and also at MacNeil Worldwide for a number of years. She retired in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda L. Taylor, of Northfield; two sisters, June Emery, of Laconia and Caroline Rollins of Connecticut; a brother, Elwin Tardy, of Gilford; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Regina McKinnon.

There will be no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247.

Josephine (Jo) Buck Hayslip

CONCORD - Josephine (Jo) Buck Hayslip, 75, of 17 Amoskeag Rd died at the Hospice House on Tuesday April 19, 2005 from cancer. Born in Burlington, Vermont, daughter of Willis R. (Junie) Buck and Minerva (Kidder) Buck, she graduated from Burlington High School in 1947 and the University of Vermont on 1951. With a growing family, she moved to Pennsylvania where she taught English and earned a Masters Degree in Education at Temple University. She moved to the Plymouth area with her family and taught in the Ashland Public School and earned an advanced degree in guidance and counseling at Boston University.

They moved to Littleton, where she was Guidance Director, and then she became a Career Development Consultant at the New Hampshire Department of Education. Her last professional achievement was to complete a Doctoral Program at George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and to join the faculty at Plymouth State College as a counselor educator, retiring in 1994. Subsequent residences include Lakeport, and since 1978, Concord.

She carried her lifelong interest in teaching and career development into her retirement and worked with organizations and agencies in career development training seminars. She was a charter member of the New Hampshire Woman’s Lobby and continued her interest in the lobby’s efforts. She volunteered at the Payson Cancer Care Center in the Joan K.Farrel Cancer Resource Library.

She enjoyed travel, reading, politics, skiing, talking and listening. She was a tireless advocate for women, children and the disadvantaged. She was a reluctant assistant gardener, but a good sport about it. She was a terrific grandmother.

Preceding her in death was her spouse of 53 years, Ellwyn F. Hayslip, who passed on March 19, 2004. Surviving are her two sons; Ellwyn (Skip) Hayslip, Jr. of Canterbury, and Steven M. Hayslip of Steamboat Springs, Colo. Other family members include Skip’s wife, Sally Fortier Hayslip, grandsons, Ellwyn IV and Graham, Steve’s partner Tracie Grant of Laconia, sister Clara Buck of Washington state, and cousin Barbara Preston Norton of Virginia and special niece Laurie Phillips of Rhode Island.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to CRVNA Hospice House, PO Box 1797, Concord, 03302, or your favorite charity in Jo’s name.

The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth D. Waldman

TUCSON, AZ. - Elizabeth D. "Betty" Waldman of Tucson, Arizona, died suddenly July 23, 2002.

Born Feb. 8, 1913, in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary Elizabeth (Wright) Rix.

She is survived by sons, William Connelly of Gilford, N.H., Arthur Connelly of Laconia, N.H., Sean Connelly of Tucson, Stephen Connelly of West Alton, N.H., Peter Connelly of Fort Worth, TX., Thom Connelly of Chugiak, AK., Joseph Connelly of Anchorage, AK.; and by daughters, Mary Elizabeth Logal of Buffalo, NY., Kathleen Wright of Medina, NY., Karen Connelly of Tucson, Patricia Wagner of Anchorage, AK., and Kerry Whitney of Anchorage, AK.; 45 grandchildren; and 73 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terence Connelly of Anchorage, AK.; daughter, Mary Jean Connelly of Buffalo, NY.; husbands, Arthur Connelly of Buffalo, NY., Robert Kumph of Laconia, N.H., and Mac Waldman of Tucson.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church at 401 Woodward Avenue, Buffalo, NY. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 11 a.m.
