Florence M. Allen

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Florence M. Allen of West Chester, former resident of Northfield, N.H., died June 6, 2004, at the Hickman Home in West Chester.

She was born in Lynn, Mass., on June 7, 1919, the daughter of Ernest and Pearl (Minor) Purcell. Mrs. Allen graduated from Tilton School in 1937.

She moved to Denver in 1957 and lived there for 27 years. She later returned to Northfield where she resided. She moved to West Chester in 2002.

Several years ago she was employed at JJ Newberry and Sulloway Hosiery Mill, both in Franklin, N.H. She also worked at Ammon Industries in Manchester, N.H. While in Denver, she worked at Serta Mattress Co. and McCullough Chainsaw Division of M.L. Foss Co.

Mrs. Allen was a former communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Tilton, N.H.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard W. Allen, who died June 18, 2003, and also by a brother, Ernest Purcell, who died in 1998 and a sister, Dorothy Purcell, who died in 1984.

Survivors include a stepson, Bryson Allen of Wichita, Kans.; a stepdaughter, Virginia Schawacker of West Chester; an aunt, Mary Minor of Laconia, N.H.; four stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Tilton, N.H., with burial following in St. John Cemetery, Tilton. Friends may visit at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St., Northfield, N.H., Saturday from 9-9:30 a.m..

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Allen may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 16 Chestnut St., Tilton, N.H., 03276.

Harold P. Baker

ASHLAND - Harold P. Baker, 80, of Main Street, died June 7, 2004, at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth.

He was born on June 12, 1923, in Ashland, the son of Matthew and Maude (Patten) Baker. He attended Ashland schools.

Mr. Baker worked for Writhmore Grain in Ashland. He also worked for several years as an attendant for the George Ober service station. He served 10 years as a driver for the H.A. Wallace Oil Co. of Meredith and 10 years working for the L.W. Packard Co. of Ashland. Among his many positions, he worked for five years with Fournier Funeral Homes of North Woodstock and formerly of Plymouth.

Mr. Baker served for 25 years as a fireman on the Ashland Fire Department. He was a supervisor of the checklist in Ashland and a scoutmaster of the Ashland Boy Scout troop for many years. He also served as a trustee of Green Grove Cemetery in Ashland.

Mr. Baker served with the Marines during World War II, and fought in the battle for Kwajaleir Atoll in the Pacific in February 1944.

He was a member of the Dupuis Cross American Legion Post 15 in Ashland, a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows and served as exalted ruler.

He enjoyed music and was a yodeler. He participated in many variety shows in Ashland. He was an avid fisherman.

He enjoyed being with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marion (Bickford) Baker of Ashland; three sons, Paul Baker of Hanford, Calif., Eric Baker of Ashland and David Baker of Bryant Pond, Maine; a daughter, Jane Doggett of Rumney; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a sister, Valerie Pierce of Laconia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Green Grove Cemetery, Main St., Ashland, with the Rev. Everett Palmer officiating.

Donations in his memory may be made to Ashland Fire Department, Main St., Ashland N.H. 03217 or to Pemi Baker Home Health Agency and Hospice, 258 Highland St., Plymouth N.H. 03264.

The Emund Fournier Funeral Home of North Woodstock is in charge of arrangements.

Dora MacEslin

BELMONT - A calling hour for Dora "Dolly" L. MacEslin, RN, will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia. A memorial service will follow the calling hour at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia.

Mrs. MacEslin, 87, of 9 Oak Drive, died Nov. 29, 2003. She was the widow of Charles H. MacEslin who died in 1994.

Mrs. MacEslin was born April 16, 1916, in Laconia, the daughter of Valere F. and Kilda M. (Fillion) Drouin.

Mrs. MacEslin is survived by two daughters, Bonnie MacEslin and Kathie Gregory; one grandchild; three sisters, Joan Shaw of Belmont, Edith Wilbraham of Mentor, Ohio, and Patricia Hollinghead of Madison, Ohio; three brothers, Leo Drouin, John Drouin and Laurent Drouin, all of Belmont; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Jack Drouin and by two sisters, Alice Laurent and Rita Flack

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Drouin-MacEslin Scholarship established in July 1997 c/o Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 7312, Gilford, N.H. 03247-7312

Marie E. Dow

LACONIA - A private family memorial service was held for Marie E. Dow on Saturday, July 31, at 11 a.m. Located at the family’s home on Parade Road with the Rev. Robert c. Sallies officiating.

The grandchildren released a purple balloon with a note attached ... "Sending Love to Grandma!"

Dr. Richard Hancock

TILTON - Dr. Richard M. Hancock, 89, of 42 Hill Road, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Willow Manor Genesis Eldercare, Lowell, Mass.

Dr. Hancock was born May 1, 1915 in Franklin, Mass., the son of the late Augustin D. and Ruth (King) Hancock.

Dr. Hancock graduated from Texas A & M University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Hancock practiced for 35 years and was owner of the Acorn Animal Hospital in Franklin, Mass. He was veterinarian for Worcester County for Animal Health and Disease Control under the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture.

Dr. Hancock moved to Laconia in 1981 and then moved to Tilton in 1999.

He was a member of the Laconia Congregational Church. He was an honorary member of the AVMA and the Excelsior Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M. of Franklin, Mass., and was a member of the Laconia Country Club and the New Hampshire Senior Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jean (Walker) Hancock, of Tilton; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Storch of Troy, Pa.; six sons, Richard Hancock and his wife, Paula, of Tilton, Randall Hancock and his wife, Margaret, of Meredith, David Hancock and his wife, Colleen, of Chelmsford, Mass., John Hancock of Watertown, Mass., Scott Hancock and Joanne Cornetta, both of Watertown, Mass., Steven Hancock of Westport, Mass; seven grandchildren, Jenny Storch, Maggie Storch, Jennica Hancock, Jaimon Hancock, Caitlin Hancock, Ryan Hancock, and Holly Hancock; one brother, D. Cap Hancock of Arizona; two sisters, Neva Crosby of Florida and Lucy Topham Smith of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Hancock, Clenric Hancock and Roy Hancock, and by one sister, Daisy Hunt.

Memorial calling hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, from 5-8 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia. The Rev. David A. Travers, interim senior pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lakes Region General Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 80 Highland St., Laconia, NH 03246.

Elmer Constant

LACONIA -- Elmer Constant, 82, of 18 Harrison St., Lakeport, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004.

Mr. Constant was born July 14, 1922 in Meredith, the son of Edmund and Fern C. (Baker) Constant. Mr. Constant was a lifelong resident of Lakeport and was employed at Laconia Malleable Iron Co. for more than 40 years. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Constant was a former member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876. He was an avid Harley rider.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Alberta J. (Hall) Constant of Lakeport; two sons, Roy Constant of Meredith and Allen Constant of Plymouth; a daughter, Esther Graffam of Gray, Maine; two brothers, Leeander Constant of Belmont and Herbert Constant of Laconia; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and close family friends, Jim and Wendy Ferricy of Laconia.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia.

A funeral service will be held in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the family lot at Bayside Cemetery, Laconia. Robert R. Huston

MOULTONBORO -- Robert R. Huston, 91, of 9 Locke Lane, died Oct. 26, 2004 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., on Oct. 19, 1913, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Ellen (Merrifield) Huston. He was a resident of Moultonboro for many years. He worked in the Lakes Region as a self employed brick mason for most all his life, until his retirement in 1975.

Mr. Huston wintered in Lake Wales, Fla., for 12 years, where he enjoyed playing golf. He was a 50-year member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of the Moultonboro United Methodist Church, both in Moultonboro. He was also a member of the Meredith Photography Club in Meredith.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the European and Pacific theater. He shared 31 years with his first wife, Evelyn (Smith) Huston, who died in May of 1981, and 22 years of marriage with Theresa (Brecanier) Huston.

In his life, he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his family. He also had a love for visiting Maine, where he enjoyed the ocean. He also enjoyed shuffleboard, dancing the jitterbug and ballroom dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Brecanier) Huston of Moultonboro; four sons, Randall L. Huston and wife Mary of Moultonboro, James H. Huston of Moultonboro, and Robert D. Huston and wife Kay of Moultonboro; one stepson, Joseph Roux of Belmont; three stepdaughters, Sandra Fitzgerald of Raleigh, N.C., Jacqueline Shone of Center Harbor, and Denise Roux of Center Harbor; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Strout of Massachusetts, Bessie Tikka of Shirley, Mass., and Eleanor Peterson of Sandwich; two brothers, Bernard Huston of San Diego, Calif., and Lee Huston of Moultonboro.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn (Smith) Huston and a sister, Jean Walker, and brothers, Warren Huston and Charles Huston.

Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes 3 and 104, Meredith, on Thursday 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Moultonboro United Methodist Church, Moultonboro, on Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Hope N. Luckie, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Middle Neck Cemetery, Moultonboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moultonboro United Methodist Church, Moultonboro, N.H., or to the Moultonboro Visiting Nurses Association, Moultonboro, N.H., 03254

Bruce F. Metevier

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Bruce F. Metevier, 54, of Santa Maria, Calif., died at the V.A. Hospital in Fresno, Calif., on Oct. 26, 2004.

Bruce was the son of Homer and Pauline Metevier (Ethridge). He was born in Holderness on Feb. 16, 1950. He was raised and attended grade school in Holderness and attended high school in Plymouth. Bruce joined the Army in 1967, serving a tour in Germany and two tours in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart.

He lived much of his early adult years in Manchester with his sister, Trudy, and her husband, Ron Stevens. He later moved to and settled in New Rochelle, working 25 years as a truck driver for County Chair Rentals.

He was predeceased by his father, Homer (Slim) Metevier, in 1971, and his sister, Bonnie Stevens (Metevier), in 2002.

He is survived by his mother, Pauline Metevier, of Santa Maria, Calif.; two sisters, Trudy Stevens and husband Ron of Santa Maria, Calif., and Nancy Van Aalst and husband Neville of Hawthorne, Fla.; one brother, David Metevier and wife Judy (Rand) of Hutto, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
