Helen A. Holdstock

FRANKLIN - Mrs. Helen A. Holdstock, 96, formerly of 209 Pleasant St., Laconia, died at the Mt. Ridge Center Genesis Eldercare Network, Franklin, on Saturday, April 5, 2003. Mrs. Holdstock was the widow of Richard Holdstock.

Mrs. Holdstock was born Jan. 6, 1907, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of George and Anne (Foley) LaDuke.

Mrs. Holdstock was a longtime resident of Burlington, Vt., before moving to Laconia in 1979. She was employed by the Bayer Co. as personal secretary to President Cook. She retired in 1939.

Survivors include two sons, David Cass of Tucson, Ariz., and John E. Holdstock of Yorkville, N.Y.; and six grandchildren, Stephen Cass, Robert Cass, James Cass, William Cass, Douglas Cass and Paula Ann Salisbury.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Burial will be held later in the spring in the family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, Burlington, Vt.

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael J. Moussette

LACONIA - Michael J. Moussette, 18, of 10 Overland St., died in an automobile accident in Gilford, on Sunday, April 6, 2003.

He was born Oct. 10, 1984 in Manchester, the son of Lionel J. and Jeanne (Richard) Moussette. He lived in Laconia most of his life and was a senior at Laconia High School. He was very active in the school chorus and was a member of the Lakes Region Select Chorus. He loved to build computers.

After graduation, Michael had hoped to attend a vocational school to study computer sciences.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.

Survivors include his parents, Lionel and Jeanne (Richard) Moussette of Laconia; two brothers, Henry L. Moussette of Franklin and James L. Moussette of Northfield; two sisters, Kathy M. Smith of New Hampton and Joanne De'Angelis of Laconia; several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St., Laconia. The Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Burial will be held later in the spring at St. Lambert Cemetery, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Michael J. Moussette Scholarship Fund, c/o the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312.

Archie A. Horne Jr.

ALTON - Archie A. Horne Jr., 88, of Main Street in Alton died on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.

Born Dec. 11, 1914 in Wolfeboro, he was the son of the late Archie A. and Ethel (Bartlett) Horne Sr. He had resided in Alton since 1949, having come from Wolfeboro. He attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro and was a graduate of Dean Academy, Class of 1934 in Franklin, Mass. He was also a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., Class of 1938.

An avid baseball player, Archie played with the St. Louis Cardinals Farm Team from 1939-1941 and also with local teams. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre.

He and his late wife Eleanor had owned and operated Horne's 5 & 10 in Alton from 1949-1969. He had also owned and operated Horne's Ford Garage in Wolfeboro, having sponsored the Punt, Pass and Kick for children in the Wolfeboro area. Mr. Horne served as the last Municipal Court Judge in Alton for 18 years.

Active with the Town of Alton, he was a former member of the Budget Committee, Trustee of Trust Funds, a former Town Treasurer and also was on the building committee for the Alton Central School.

He was a member of the Claude R. Batchelder Post #72 of the American Legion in Alton, where he ran Beano. A 50-year Mason, he was a member of Morning Star Lodge F. & A.M. in Wolfeboro, a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons in NH and a member of Alpha Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, formerly of Alton.

The widower of the late Eleanor (Dutton) Horne, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon L. and Raymond R. Howard of Alton; two grandchildren, R. Richard and wife Wendy Howard of Cheshire, Conn., Karin L. and husband Darrel Mansfield of Alton; four great-grandchildren, Steven, Nathan and Jill Howard and Courtney Mansfield; a brother, Paul E. Horne of No. Attleboro, Mass.; first cousins: Geraldine Gillis of Peabody, Mass. and Herbert E. Miller of Alton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice L. French and a brother, Maurice Horne.

Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Alton Funeral Home, School St., Alton. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Community Church of Alton on Church St. in Alton with the Rev. Peter Bolster, pastor, officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at the Lake View Cemetery in Wolfeboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Archie A. Horne Memorial Scholarship Fund at Bank of NH, PO Box 998, Alton, NH 03809.

Emma M. Kelly

RUMNEY - Emma Mehren Kelly, 96, of Rumney, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at The Golden Crest in Franklin.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Oct. 7, 1906, the daughter of Heinrich and Alvina Mehren. Mrs. Kelly was predeceased by her husband Mahlon George Kelly Sr.; her son, Mahlon George Kelly Jr. and her brother, Henry Mehren.

Mrs. Kelly, her parents and her brother moved to Rumney in the 1920s, when her father bought and restored The Stinson House and turned it, once again, into an inn. She lived in Rumney for more than 75 years.

When Mrs. Kelly's husband died, she took over the running of the crutch mill, Kelly Manufacturing Co., in Rumney. Under her direction, the company had its most successful years before being sold.

In earlier years, Mrs. Kelly was very active in the Rumney Baptist Church, participating in the choir which was directed by her father-in-law, George Kelly, and in other church activities. For many years she was a Gray Lady volunteer at Sceva Speare Hospital in Plymouth.

An avid craftswoman, Mrs. Kelly was known for her stenciled chairs and trays, hand braided rugs, and restored steamer trunks. She was a League Of New Hampshire Craftsman participant.

In later years Mrs. Kelly worked at the Tenney Mountain Ski Area, managing ticket sales and knitting ski caps for the ski team and staff. She also occasionally worked at the Rumney Village Store, Tenney Mountain Steak Barn, and the Calico Cupboard.

During the years she wintered in Charlottesville, Va., Mrs. Kelly was a University of Virginia Hospital volunteer and worked to make habitable the hospital’s first Hospitality House for patients' families.

Mrs. Kelly loved to travel, starting as a teen-ager when she lived in Germany for a year with her family. In later years, she took several trips to European countries and Bermuda.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by her daughter-in-law, Gretchen Leigh Kelly of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Mehren of Upper Saddle River, N.J. and Audrey Kelly of Plymouth; three nieces and their families, Louise Mehren Spicer of Ramsey, N.J., Nancy Mehren Green of Old Lyme, Conn., and Barbara Mehren Freeman of Newbury and numerous cousins and their families including Patricia Kelly Tilton, of Manchester, Vt., June Spaulding of Rumney, and Alyce Phillips of Lancaster, Pa.

A funeral service will be held in Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Monday, April 14, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Gold will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Rumney, at a later date. Charles L. Alexander

BELMONT - Charles L. Alexander, 76, of 171 Province Road, died June 2, 2003 in his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Jefferson on Feb. 24, 1927, the son of Fred and Margaret (Berry) Alexander. He has resided in Belmont for most of his life.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Laconia Malleable Iron Co. for 47 years. In addition, he had been employed for several years by the Inter-Lakes School system in Meredith in custodial care.

Mr. Alexander was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the last surviving child in a family of four. He enjoyed tending to his garden and shopping at yard sales with his daughter.

Family members include his wife of 55 years, Florence (Dame) Alexander of Belmont; a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Brenda) Fendley of Belmont; a son, Ralph Alexander of Lakeport; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, 7870 N. Main St., Laconia, NH 03246.

Geoffrey T. Kidd

PORTLAND, Maine - Geoffrey T. Kidd, 48, of Portland, died Sunday, June 1, 2003.

He was born on March 1, 1955, in Manchester, N.H., the son of George T. and Louise (Palleschi) Kidd. He graduated from Laconia High School, Class of 1973. He then attended New Hampshire Technical Insisiute in Concord, N.H., receiving an associates degree. Most recently he received a certificate in interior design and had recently embarked on his new career.

Mr. Kidd also worked a number of years as a service tech for A.B. Dick Company in Westbrook.

On June 5, 1985 he married Bernice Adler.

He was a member of Cape Shore Assembly of God, where he had a strong love for God, children and his music. He was a naturally gifted musician and an accomplished guitar player and song writer, playing since age 13. Many of his songs were recorded and released nationally. Most of all, he loved playing his music in church. Children were very special to him as he never lost his child’s fascination with the world. He had a special way with people, bringing out the best in everyone around him.

Of him, his family wrote, "Geoffrey was full of love and always had a smile on his face. He loved life, his family, rock hounding with his brother Grant and enjoyed the ocean with a passion. Although he didn’t have any children, his cat, Charlotte, was his ‘baby’."

He is survived by his wife, Bernice; his mother, Louise Kidd of Gilford, N.H.; two brothers, Gregory Kidd of Old Orchard Beach and Grant Kidd of Asheville, N.C., sister-in-law Ann Kidd; and a niece, Erica Kidd of Old Orchard Beach.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cape Shore Assembly of God, 536 Cottage Road, South Portland. Aline A. Luneau

MEREDITH - Aline A. Luneau, 97, of Route 104, died at the Golden View Health Care Center on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 7, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the family lot in St. John’s Cemetery, Tilton.

Howard A. Hawthorne

GILFORD - Howard A. Hawthorne, 86, of 23 Lake Breeze Mobile Home Park, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday June 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
