Ellen Cloutman Jennings
Author of ‘The History of New Durham’

NEW DURHAM - Ellen Cloutman Jennings, widow of Irving E. Jennings, died Aug. 2, 2002, at her residence in Connecticut.
She was born in Farmington in 1905. She and her family lived in Winchester, Mass., for many years before retiring to “the Jennings Farm” in New Durham, where the family had spent many summers.
She was an artist, quilter, gardener and musician as well as a genealogist.
She researched, wrote and published The History of New Durham, donating the proceeds to the library in New Durham, where she was a trustee for many years.
In 1988, Mrs. Jennings donated almost 400 acres of forest to The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. This land is now known as The Jennings Forest.
Family members include four children, Ann J. Taussig of Wolfeboro, Alice J. Castelli of Madison, Conn., Elizabeth J. Maley of Orange, Conn., and Charles E. Jennings of Shelburne, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

John McRobbie
Had many interests and talents

NORTH WAKEFIELD - John K. McRobbie, Esq., 64, of North Wakefield, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.
He was born in Swampscott, Mass., son of J. Arthur and Helen (Bohaczyk) McRobbie and had lived in Lynn, Mass., before moving to New Hampshire 12 years ago.
He was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Newman Preparatory School and the G.E. Apprentice Course.
He had many interests and talents. He was an avid gardener, boater and home repairman. He was also a Notary Public and Justice of the Peace. He had owned several thoroughbred horses, of which he was very proud. In addition to his other interests, he was also a real estate developer.
He had been an employee of the G.E. Riverworks in Lynn for more than 30 years before retiring in 1987.
Family members include his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and John Cordero of Peabody, Mass.; a close friend, John Citron, with whom he lived in North Wakefield; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William A. and James A. McRobbie.
Services were held Aug. 5 in the Richardson Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman and Sons, Lynn, Mass., followed by cremation at Harmony Grove Crematory, Salem, Mass.

Edward Niblett
Resident of Massachusetts

WATERTOWN, Mass. - Edward J. “Ted” Niblett, 89, of Watertown, died July 27, 2002.
He was born Nov. 16, 1912.
Family members include his wife of 63 years, Jennie (Misserian) Niblett; siblings Dorothy Paris and Margaret Berry, both of New Hampshire, Alfred Niblett of Florida and Thomas Niblett of Centerville, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by siblings Samuel Niblett, Jr., Evelyn Rabenaldt, Elizabeth Drechsler, Edith Lysaght and Francis H. Niblett.
Services were held July 30 at the Giragosian Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial was private.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. James Armenian Church, 465 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown, MA 02472.

Richard Steer
Retired executive, longtime summer resident

NASHUA - Richard M. Steer, of 2 Berkeley St., died Sunday morning, Aug. 4, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital.
His family has summered in Wolfeboro for 81 years.
He was born and brought up in Melrose, Mass. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1933 and from Bowdoin College in 1937. He had lived in Nashua since 1962.
Before moving to Nashua, he was vice president of Ibenco, Ltd., a Coca Cola company, in Ajax, Ontario. For more than 30 years, he was a member of Rotary in Ajax, transferring to the Nashua Rotary Club in 1962. He was a Paul Harris Fellow.
In Nashua, he was president and owner of Waghorne-Brown Co., Nashua, a wholesale building products company.
He was a member of First Church UCC. He served as a member of the Prudential Committee and Church Moderator for 13 years.
Mr. Steer served as president of the United Associations of Alton. He was a founder of the Rattlesnake Island Association and a founder of the Island Marine Association of West Alton.
He had been a member of Nashua Country Club since 1962.
An enthusiastic fly fisherman, he was a past president of Nashua Flycasters and a member of Trout Unlimited and the Miramichi Anglers Association.
He was a 10-year member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives).
He was a commissioned Naval officer in the Atlantic Ocean and Central Pacific. He participated in the invasions of the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He saw the Flag raised on Iwo Jima.
He was predeceased by a son, Peter Steer, who resided in Durham.
Family members include his wife of 57 years, Jeanne P. Steer of Nashua; a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Katharine (Sykes) Steer of Nashua; a daughter, Cynthia F. Steer of Bolton, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Cuddy) Steer of Durham; and six grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at First Church UCC, One Concord St., Nashua, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey C. Evans, associate pastor, officiating. Friends are welcome. Interment prayers will be private.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy in his memory are asked to consider NH Association for the Blind, McGreal Sight Center, 25 Walker St., Concord, NH 03301, or American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Arrangements are in the care of Davis Funeral Home, Nashua.

Ardith Yoder
Homemaker, mother, active in church

WAKEFIELD - Ardith Ann Knox Yoder, of Sanbornville, died Aug. 4, 2002, after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Wolfeboro, daughter of Roy and Sara Knox. She attended Center Ossipee grammar school, Ossipee High School and graduated from Kennett High School in 1952. She grew up loving sports and had a love for people.
In 1952, she attended New England School of Theology in Brookline, Mass., graduating in 1956 with a diploma in Christian education.
Her strong Christian faith led her into many areas of Christian service. This faith started at a young age, at the West Ossipee Advent Church, where she was a member for many years. She then became a member of the Farmington Advent Christian Church as a youth director in 1959. She also enjoyed five summers as a camp counselor at Camp Adventure at the Christian Conference Center in Alton Bay.
She was a homemaker, Sunday School teacher, secretary and treasurer of the Farmington Advent Christian Church Sunday School and deaconess of the church.
In 1961, she married Robert Yoder of Benton Harbor, Mich., and became the mother of two children.
Family members include her husband, of Sanbornville; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Patricia Yoder of Middleton; a daughter, Sue Hundredth of Plattsburg, N.Y.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Fitzsimmons and her husband, James, of Jonesport, Maine, and Arlayne Secord of Winchester; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
Services were held Wednesday at Ossipee Valley Bible Church. Burial was at Knox Cemetery, West Ossipee. Pastor Coleman Williams, Pastor John Fogell, Pastor John Aron and the Rev. Gerald Flewelling offered blessings at the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Carroll County, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894, or Farmington Advent Christian Church, 33 Orange St., Farmington, NH 03835.
Lord Funeral Home, Center Ossipee, is in charge of arrangements.

Leo Boucher
World War II veteran, retired manager

ALTON - Leo E. Boucher, 90, of Mt. Prospect Road, died suddenly at home Friday morning Sept. 13, 2002.
Born Aug. 23, 1912, in Laconia, he was the son of William and Celina Boucher. He had resided in Alton for 25 years, having come from Laconia.
A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he retired as Warehouse Manager from Sanel Auto Parts in Laconia.
He attended St. Joan of Arc Church in Alton and enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Family members include his wife, Pauline M. (Kimball) Boucher of Alton; his sister, Alice Boutin of Laconia; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Sept. 16 at C.E. Peaslee and Son Alton Funeral Home. Burial was at Old Riverside Cemetery on Main Street.

Charles Buckland
Enjoyed barbershop music

WALPOLE, MASS. - Charles Francis Buckland, 60, died in his home Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.
Born in Lynn, Mass., he was raised and educated in Swampscott, Mass. He graduated from Swampscott High School in 1960. He graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Class of 1964, with a bachelor of arts degree in history.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965, and was stationed at Sage Air Station in Topsham, Maine, where, in 1969, he was honorably discharged as a captain.
Prior to his illness, he was employed by Bull Information systems of Billerica, Mass., where for the past 32 years he worked in the marketing division for computer software.
He had a passion for barbershop music, and was active with SPEBSQSA Chapter in Walpole, Canton and Natick. He was a member for more 30 years.
He also enjoyed reading, gardening, and any outdoor activity. Most of all he enjoyed music, his family and friends.
Family members include his wife of 32 years, Dixie Ann (Stover) Buckland, two daughters Lauren Buckland of San Francisco, Calif., and Jennifer Buckland of South Deerfield, Mass.; his parents, Charles F. and Constance (Nutter) Buckland of Brookfield; brother Robert D and his wife Ann Marie Buckland of Milton, sister Betsy Buckland and her husband Richard Plasmati of Foxboro, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held at United Church in Walpole Sept. 16. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery, Walpole.
