Nancy Spaulding

SOUTH BERWICK, MAINE - Nancy Spaulding, 50, of 64 Old South Road, died December 13, 1999 at Dover Rehabilitation Center after a long hard fight with cancer.
Mrs. Spaulding was born in Suffern, N.Y. on March 3, 1949 the daughter of H. Philip and Anita (Serven) Engle. A graduate of Ramsey, N.J., High School and Central Connecticut State College (1971). She live for 2 years in Hawaii and 4 years in Spain before settling in South Berwick, Maine in 1977. Since 1983, she has taught the first and second grades at Central School in South Berwick.
Nancy was a member of the Federated Church in South Berwick and Co. Chair of the South Berwick Strawberry Festival Committee. She loved cross country and down hill skiing, kayaking, walking, reading and especially the beach.
She is survived by husband Gary, daughter Jasanna, son Jeffrey, all of South Berwick; mother Anita, of Conway; and Pamela Wheeler of Cleveland, Tenn.
Her father H. Philip Engle proceeded her in death.

Howard F. Dixon

CHELSEA, Mass. - Howard F. Dixon 57, died Sunday morning Dec 12, 1999, in his home after battling pancreatic cancer for six weeks.
Born and raised in Chelsea, Mass., he was a lifelong resident there. He graduated from Chelsea High School. He worked in the Chelsea assessor's office for 27 years and had recently retired. He then became executive director of the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce.
He was a frequent visitor to North Conway and the Mount Washington Valley.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (West) Dixon; his children, Linda Dixon-D'Addario, Robert Dixon and his wife Annmarie, and John Dixon, all of Chelsea; his mother, Lillian (DeAngelis) Dixon, of Chelsea; and one grandson, Jonathan D'Addario.
Funeral will be Thursday at 8 a.m. at the Anthony Memorial Funeral Home 157 Washington Avenue, Chelsea, Mass. A funeral mass will follow at 9 a.m. Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols St., Chelsea.
Visiting hours will be held at the Anthony Memorial today, Wednesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will conclude with Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Mass.
Donations in his memory can be sent to The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, Mass.

Lyman O. Garland

BARTLETT - Lyman O. Garland, 83, of Bartlett, died December 13, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a long illness. Born in North Conway, the son of Fred and Grace (Plummer) Garland, he grew up in Bartlett and was a lifelong resident except from 1942 to 1948 when he lived in Randolph, Mass.
Mr. Garland graduated from Bartlett High School, Class of 1935 and he worked for the Civil Conservation Corps in the late 1930's.
During World War II he worked in the Naval Shipyard in Quincy, Mass. and then returned to Bartlett to work for the U.S. Forest Service. In the 1950s, he worked for Aeronautical Icing Research on Mt. Washington, testing for de-icing on jet engines.
Before retiring in 1978, he worked in general construction for 15 years in the Mt. Washington Valley.
He was an avid traveler and a member of the Good Sam Club and Coachman Funster Club.
The family includes two sons, Roger L. Garland of East Conway and Edward R. Garland of North Conway; a daughter, Mrs. Donna Sheaff of Bartlett; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Bertha (Rankin) Garland, predeceased him in 1989.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Bartlett Union Congregational Church with the Rev. George Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Bartlett Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Donations may be sent to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care Services of Northern Carroll County, P.O. Box 432, North Conway, NH 03860-0432.

Ann L. Towle

CONWAY - Ann L. Towle, 95, of Conway, died December 8, 1999 at the Memorial hospital in North Conway, following a brief illness. Born in Diligent River, Nova Scotia, the daughter of John and Saddy (Hughs) Warren, she has lived in the Mt. Washington Valley for over 75 years.
She had worked at the former Ben Franklin Store in Conway for 10 years and she had been a clerk at the North Conway Five and Dime Store for over 25 years, prior to retiring.
Mrs. Towle was a very active member of the Conway United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, assisted with church suppers, and was active with the church woman's group. Ann had also been a member of the former Washington Chapter #44 0.E.S and the Woman's Relief Corps.
The family includes: two sisters, May Grant of Diligent River, Nova Scotia and Carrie Dempsey of Springfield, MA and several nieces and nephews including, William S. Grant of Mississauga, Ontario.
Donations may be sent to the Conway United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 315, Conway, NH 03818-0315.
The Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway, is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard F. Nickerson

CONWAY- Bernard F. Nickerson, 67, of Allen Siding, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
He was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Conway, son of the late Mark and Reva (Chapman) Nickerson. He had lived in Madison prior to moving to Conway in 1956.
During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Nickerson served his country with the United States Navy.
He ran his own plumbing, heating and electrical business, B.F. Nickerson Plumbing and Heating for many years, was a member of the American Legion Post 46 in Conway and Elks Club in Conway.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian (Lewis) Nickerson of Conway; a son, Mark Edward Nickerson of Conway; a stepson Robert Cepurneek, of North Parsonfield, Maine, three step-daughters, Marcia Nientemp of Taunton, Mass., Cheryl Mills of South Hiram, Maine, and Sandra Ebbs of Bridgewater, Mass.; a brother Dwight E. Nickerson of Burlington, Mass.; a sister Mary Grace Bates of Conway; and seven grandsons and one granddaughter.
A testimonial gathering at Bill's Place Restaurant on Route 16 in Albany will be Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m.
Burial will be at a later date.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of West Ossipee and Wolfeboro is in charge of the arrangements.

Sadie E. Smith

FRYEBURG - Sadie E. Smith, 83, 0f Pond Road in Fryeburg, died Dec. 6, 1999, at the Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton.
She was born in Brownfield, the daughter of Orrin and Abbie Miller Hamilton, and attended the old Bean Memorial High School. Most of her life she lived in Fryeburg, and she worked many years for Hall and Smith Lumber Co. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and growing flowers.
She was predeceased by a son, Francis, and a daughter, Rita Hamilton. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles E. Smith Jr. of Fryeburg; two sons, Roland Watson, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Fred Watson, of Rochester; two daughters, Cynthia McKeough of Dover, and Patricia Strong of Mississippi; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Fryeburg with the Rev. Violet Eastman officiating.
Donations in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, Maine, 04330-05615.
Arrangements are with the Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

Charles L. Albert

EFFINGHAM - Charles L. Albert, 80, of Huntress Bridge Road, died peacefully on Nov. 21, 1999, at his Effingham home.
Albert was born in Kingston, Pa., the son of Charles and Jeannette Davis Albert, and was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. During World War II, he drove ambulances for the American Field Service in Burma and India. He worked many years as a production manager for Columbia Records in both Connecticut and New Jersey.
Mr. Albert was a life member of the Elks. He enjoyed gardening, travel, family, friends and his beloved cats.
His wife of 45 years, Mary June Linsley Albert, died in February of 1995. Family members include his two daughters and a son-in-law, Emelyn Albert of Effingham, and Bruce and Elinor Collinson of Portsmouth.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at Lords Hill Church, Route 153 in Effingham, with the Rev. Robert Cedar officiating. Memorial donations may be sent to the VNA/Hospice of Southern Carroll County and Vicinity, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH.

Gladys J. Frost

OSSIPEE - Gladys J. Frost, 102, one of the oldest residents of Ossipee, died Nov. 23, 1999, at the Merriman House in North Conway.
She was a lifelong resident of the area. She was born in Wakefield on July 28, 1897, the daughter of Everett and Alice Thompson Shortridge.
She retired in 1972 as the assistant cook at the Ossipee Central School. Mrs. Frost was a member of the Moultonboro Methodist Church and a charter member of the Ossipee Women's Club. Throughout her life she was very interested in politics and had voted every year since women had won the right to vote. In her long life she witnessed many notable events including seeing the Great Houdini perform in Wolfeboro. She enjoyed poetry and had several of her originals published.
Mrs. Frost was the widow of Guy R. Frost, who died in 1956. She is survived by three daughters, Ruth Staples, Patricia Hayford and Priscilla Busch, all of Center Ossipee; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great, great granddaughters.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Lakes Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 2231 Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

Walter F. Heath

CONWAY - Walter F. Heath, 57, of Center Conway, died Nov. 29, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a sudden illness.
Born in Brockton, Mass., the son of Frederick and Myrtle (McGrath) Heath, he lived in Stow, Maine, for several years before moving to Center Conway in 1994.
He worked for the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local Union No. 17 in Massachusetts for several years, and for the past eight years he has been employed by Ceramco Inc. in Center Conway.
Mr. Heath was a member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church.
Heath's family includes: his wife, Kristin R. Heath of Center Conway; a son, Gregory Heath of Maui, Hawaii; a daughter, Jacqueline Heath of Brockton, Mass.; his mother, Myrtle Heath of Brockton, Mass.; a sister, Patricia LeClair of Madera, Calif.; a brother, Richard Heath of Duxbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Conway with the Rev. Angelo J. D'Onofrio, rector, officiating. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
