John Joseph Kiley Jr.
Died: Wednesday, August 03, 2005
Age: 82

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - John "Jack" Joseph Kiley Jr., 82, of North Andover, Mass. and Wolfeboro, died Aug. 3.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Kelly); his children Ann Burke of Briny Breezes, Fla., Joan O'Brien and her husband Ted of Andover, Mass., John J. Kiley III of Portland, Maine, Moira Kiley of Beverly, Mass., Matthew Kiley and his wife Susanne of Andover, Mass., Megan Bartle and her husband David of Acton, Mass., Amy Kiley and her husband Lucas Hubbard of Wolfeboro and Gillian Kiley and her husband Sam White of Providence, R.I. He also leaves his sister Mary Howlett of Peabody, Mass. and eight grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 17 years Katherine (McCarthy), his son Joseph, and his brothers William and Thomas.

Kiley grew up in Lynn, Mass. and graduated from Lynn English High School and Norwich University. He enlisted in the Marines in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He worked in the automotive sales and leasing industry for much of his professional life.

The wake was held Friday, Aug. 5, in North Andover, Mass. A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 6, at St. Michael's Church in North Andover and a Christian burial followed at West Parish Cemetery in Andover, Mass.

Donations may be sent to the Palliative Care Unit at Mass. General Hospital in Boston, Mass. or the Lazarus House.

Edward Greeley Cleary
Died: Monday, August 01, 2005
Age: 75

DÅNVERS, Mass. - Edward Greeley Cleary Jr., 75, of Peabody, formerly of Lynnfield, Mass. and North Reading, Mass., died Monday, Aug. 1 at the Harborside Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers.

Cleary was born July 22, 1930 in Medford, Mass., the son of the late Edna L. (Dickey) Cleary and the late Edward G. Cleary.

He was the devoted father of Kathy Roddochia of Wakefield, Miss., Lisa Young of Sanbornville, Carl E. Cleary of Derry, Laura E. Moller of Newfield and the late Patrick Cleary.

Survivors also include a brother, William Cleary of Lynnfield, Mass., nephew of Catherine Cleary of Lynn and loving grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of three. He is also survived by his former wife Nancy (Carlson) Cleary.

He was a resident of Peabody for 12 years, formerly of Lynnfield and North Reading, Mass.

Cleary was a graduate of Wakefield High School class of 1949. A retired police officer, he worked for both North Reading, three years, and Lynnfield, for 32 years, retiring in 1993 as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Wakefield Elks for 26 years, and a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club in Lynnfield, Mass.

The funeral will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn Street), Reading, Mass., on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 127 Summer St. in Lynnfield, Mass. at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Burial is private.

Funeral Home visiting hours are Friday, Aug. 5 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Cleary's memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers Mass., 01923.

Adel Leone
Died: Sunday, July 31, 2005
Age: 84

WOLFEBORO - Adel (Teare) Leone, 84, formerly of Sugar Hill and Birch Hill in Wolfeboro, died July 31 at the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.

Born Feb. 24, 1921 in Montclair, N.J., daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Smith) Teare, she has lived in Wolfeboro since 1974, previously living in Verona, N.J. for many years.

Leone was a very active member with All Saints Episcopal Church, volunteering with the Women's Alter Guild, Lord and Tailor Thrift Shop and the Nursery School.

Leone was the widow of Eugene Leone, who died June 29, 1978. Her son, Timothy Leone, died June 13, 1969 in Verona, N.J. She leaves two sons, Eugene Leone of Wolfeboro and Thomas Leone of Montclair, N.J.; a daughter, Susan Leone of South Prairie, Wash.; and a brother, John Teare of Beaufort, N.C. She also leaves two grandchildren: Timothy Richard, who is teaching in Nicaragua, and Alissa Leone of Wolfeboro, who is a student at Bentley College.

A memorial service will be held today, Aug. 4, 10 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro are in charge of the arrangements.

Edward F. Johnson
Died: Wednesday, July 27, 2005
Age: 86

SANBORNVILLE - Edward F. Johnson, of Sanbornville, died July 27 after a brief illness. He was 86 years old.

Born on Sept. 9, 1918 in Malden, Mass., he was the son of Charles A., and Mary Jane (Sonn) Johnson. The family moved to Portsmouth, where he quickly established many life-long friendships.

After serving as president of his high school class for three years, he graduated with the Portsmouth High School Class of 1938. A natural athlete, he enjoyed all sports, captained his high school football team, and lettered in football and basketball. He also discovered golf, an interest he pursued throughout his life.

He met his future wife, Merna Elaine Painter, while both were attending Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill. They were married on July 31, 1943 in Portsmouth while he was on leave from the United States Coast Guard. He subsequently was deployed with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific, and saw combat action there.

He was employed for 25 years by the State of New Hampshire and the US Labor Department as a veterans' counselor in Portsmouth. Particularly in this profession, his dedication to serving others earned him much respect from the community, as well as recognition, even years later, from many of the veterans he helped employ. He was meticulous in his attention to detail, and had a vibrant life force and a very strong faith, all of which contributed to his ability to help others.

After retirement, he became an active member of the Wakefield and Tavares, Fla. Lions Clubs. With both clubs, he especially enjoyed coordinating fundraising activities with local businesses and participating in the Lions' drives to collect eyeglasses.

During the holidays, he represented the Lions Club in his service work with disabled children in Florida. He loved to cook and prepared many delicious meals for his Lions Clubs' friends, as well as his family.

He was a Communicant of Saint Anthony's Parish in Sanbornville, where he served for forty years as an usher and greeter at Mass. Recently, he was also a Communicant of Saint Michael's Parish in South Berwick, Maine, where he made many new friends.

Johnson was the husband of the late Merna E. (Painter) Johnson. He was also pre-deceased by his sister, Ruth Ronnquist, of York, Maine. He is survived by two brothers, Walter Johnson of Mount Dora, Fla., and Charles Johnson of Newmarket. He is also survived by his five children, Christine Johnson of South Berwick, Maine, Byron Johnson of Tiverton, R.I., Cynthia Rogers of Eagle River, Alaska, Carol Kuhn of Fairfax, Calif., Nancy Kirtland of Dover Point, and his five grandchildren, Madeleine and Rylie Kuhn, Kyle and Erich Stumpe, and Benjamin Johnson.

Calling hours were held at Peaslee Funeral Home in Sanbornville, July 31. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Aug. 1 at Saint Anthony's Church in Sanbornville with Fr. Edmund A. Babicz, pastor as celebrant. Interment followed at Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one's charity of choice, or to the Lions Club International.

Norman E. LaPanne
Died: Monday, July 25, 2005
Age: 74

TILTON - Norman E. LaPanne, 74, formerly of Alton, died Monday morning, July 25, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, where he most recently lived.

Born Dec. 23, 1930 in Colchester, Conn., he was the son of the late Albanie and Amelia (Brissard) LaPanne. Raised in South Berwick, Maine, he lived for several years in Alton, and in New Durham for 20 years. Before moving to New Durham, he had lived in Farmington for 25 years.

A United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the American Legion Post #47 in Rollinsford.

LaPanne retired from Textron in Farmington after 10 years. He had also worked as a supervisor for Roberts Shoe Co. in Somersworth for 20 years.

He leaves two sons, Dennis LaPanne of Alton and Jeff LaPanne of Sanford, Maine; a daughter, Gloria Lesperance of Shapleigh, Maine; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a brother, David LaPanne. He also leaves four sisters: Lorraine Little of Sanford, Maine; Evelyn Corritori and Theresa Burby, both of Barrington, and Florence Hancock of New Durham; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons: Wayne and Glenn LaPanne and two brothers: Robert and Gilbert LaPanne.

A graveside service will be held tomorrow, July 29, at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington, 10 a.m., with military honors. There are no calling hours, family and friends are welcome to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: New Hampshire Veterans Home Benefit Fund 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.

Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, in Farmington.

Maureen Ann Duffy
Died: Monday, July 25, 2005
Age: 49

SANBORNVILLE - Maureen Ann Duffy, born May 29, 1956 passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on July 25 after a courageous fight against cancer.

She was a dedicated physical therapist for the past 30 years working with special needs children and adolescents in the Nashua Area. She participated for 10 years in the Boston Marathon/ Dana Farber Jimmy Fund Walk and throughout her life participated in numerous cancer walks to "fight the fight." She was instrumental in starting the Special Olympics in the State of New Hampshire and stayed actively involved for years. She worked and lived in the community she loved. Her family, friends, Lovell Lake, the children she serviced, antiquing, entertaining, and her dog, Rosie, were her life.

The family includes her loving father, Peter J. Duffy of Brookfield; four sisters, Sharon (Duffy) Pearce and husband Thomas of Bow, Anne (Duffy) Erickson and husband Robert of Rochester, Kathleen (Duffy) Williams and husband Barry of Dover, Carol Duffy of Belmont; two brothers, Paul Duffy and his wife Carolyn (Heps) of Hampton and Mark Duffy and his wife Linda (Jones) of Sanbornvillle; 12 nieces and nephews and one great grand niece. Her mother Gloria F. Duffy predeceased her.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Parish, Route 109, Meadow Street, Sanbornville, on Saturday, July 30, at 1 p.m.

These funds will be used to help defray the uncovered medical cost for the cancer treatment.

Ruth E. "Betty" Kennard
Died: Sunday, July 24, 2005
Age: 84

EFFINGHAM - Ruth E. "Betty" (Pearson) Kennard, 84, of Green Mountain Road, passed away Sunday, July 24, at her home.

Kennard was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Malden, Mass., the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Stetson) Pearson. The family later moved to Center Ossipee in 1923. She attended local school and graduated from the Ossipee High School in 1938. In 1946, she married Raymond Kennard and had lived in Effingham since 1956 where they raised their family.

Kennard was a member of the Moultonville Methodist Church, the Effingham Grange #313, the VFW Auxiliary and a past member of the Pocahontas. She bowled on several teams for over 30 years and was a school bus driver for many years.

Kennard loved walking in the woods. She also liked cross-stitching, reading and attending her Ossipee High School Reunions. She was also an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Ray Kennard, in 2001. She is survived by her sons, Raymond Kennard Jr., Nottingham; Thomas Kennard, Brockton, Mass.; Jeffrey Kennard, Effingham; and Martin Kennard, Effingham; and her daughters, Kathryn Suprenard, Effingham; Jill Kennard, Center Ossipee; and Marianne Jamison, Wellington, Maine; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a sister, Barbara Thompson, Milton.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 29, at 10 a.m. at the Grant Hill Cemetery, Ctr. Ossipee.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice/VNA of Southern Carroll County, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 or the Moultonville United Methodist Church, Center Ossipee, NH 03814.

The Lord Funeral Home, Center Ossipee is in charge of arrangements.
