Rose Mary Piche
Died: Sunday, December 11, 2005
Age: 88

Loved children and music

CENTER OSSIPEE - Rose Mary (Comelchook) Piché, 88, of Skandia Estates, Center Ossipee, died Dec. 11 at her home after a long illness.

Born in Berlin, Sept. 25, 1917, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Jaroch) Comelchook, she grew up in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School. She had lived in Center Ossipee for more than 37 years, previously living in Laconia.

Mrs. Piche' was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Center Ossipee, she loved children, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved music.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years Elie J. Piche' of Center Ossipee, a son Michael Piche' of Springfield, Mass., two daughters and son in-laws, Noreen and Richard Cousins of Ossipee, and Anne and Lon Cheney of Winterhaven, Fla., three grandchildren, Jessica Cousins and her fiancée Daniel Hughes III of Wakefield, Jason Cousins of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Benjamin Piche' of Nashua, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours were held Wednesday at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Ossipee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Center Ossipee. Burial will be in Grant Hill Cemetery in Center Ossipee.

Donations may be made in her memory to Catholic Charities.

Jean Elizabeth Meyer Ray
Died: Sunday, December 11, 2005
Age: 90

TUFTONBORO - Jean Elizabeth Meyer Ray was born Sept. 20, 1915 in Cambridge, Mass. to Dora Miles Philpott Meyer and Max Hubert Meyer.

She was a lifelong summer resident on Tuftonboro Neck and active in the Tuftonboro and Wolfeboro Historical Societies.

She grew up in Cohasset, Mass., where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She then majored in Library Science at Simmons College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1936. Jean Meyer later worked in libraries in Massachusetts and Connecticut. She achieved a Masters of Science in Cataloging and Classification at Columbia University School of Library Science in 1945, after which she worked at and attended Oregon State University. She returned to the East Coast and worked at and attended Yale University, where she met her husband, David Tryon Ray.

Jean Meyer Ray and David Tryon Ray were married June 3, 1950 in Cohasset and set up housekeeping in Washington D.C. They had three children. Jean Ray worked for the Library of Congress, Washington D.C. until 1959, and then the family moved to Carbondale, Ill. For the next 35 years, Jean Ray worked for Southern Illinois University Library, except for 1967-68, when she was in Bamako, Mali, and worked in the United States Information Service Library. She retired in 1986.

She died Dec. 11, at the age of 90 years, in Cambridge, Mass.

Jean Meyer Ray is survived by her three children, Edith Beecher Ray Church, Margaret Philpott Ray Reynolds, and David Meyer Ray. She has four grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2006 at the First Parish Unitarian-Universalist Church in Harvard Square.

John Floyd Harwood
Died: Saturday, December 10, 2005
Age: 53

Village Players and Clearlakes Chorale performer

WOLFEBORO - John Floyd Harwood, 53, of Berrywood Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 10 at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, Mass. after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Harwood was born June 2, 1952, in Southbridge, Mass., the son of E. Kenneth and Catharine V. (Floyd) Harwood. After graduating from Southbridge High School in 1970, he received a B.S. in Geography from Syracuse University and a Masters in Urban Planning from the State University of New York at Albany.

In New York, Mr. Harwood worked for Historic Albany Foundation and the planning departments of the City of Albany and Schenectady County. After relocating to New Hampshire, Mr. Harwood worked for the Central Regional Planning Commission in Manchester, the Strafford Regional Planning Commission in Dover, and had served three months as Planner for the town of Hampton when he became ill. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

John was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Albany, serving as deacon and on the youth group leadership team, as well as singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Albany St. Andrew's Society. In Wolfeboro, John was a member of the First Congregational Church. He loved music and drama and performed with the Village Players theatre group and the Clearlakes Chorale. John enjoyed travel and the wonderful relationships developed in Operation Friendship, a youth exchange program. He was an avid cribbage player, a passionate cook, enjoyed boating and skiing, and treasured his family's cottage in New Brunswick, Canada.

Family members include his wife of 31 years, Nancy Lane Harwood, his son Stephen G. Harwood, 16, and daughter Margaret A. Harwood, 12, of Wolfeboro. In Southbridge, he is survived by his uncle, Richard M. Harwood and family, and his brother, Harold E. Harwood, II, and family.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 at First Congregational Church, 115 South Main St., Wolfeboro

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the "Harwood Education Fund," which has been established for his children, c/o Attorney Robert Waldron, P.O. Box 247, Wolfeboro Falls, NH 03896, or to the charity of your choice.

Dale A. Austin Sr.
Died: Saturday, December 10, 2005
Age: 53

Longtime Wolfeboro resident

WOLFEBORO - Dale A. Austin Sr., 53, of Pine Hill Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10 at Huggins Hospital from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident.

Dale was born Sept. 27, 1952 in Laconia, the son of the late Jasper and Nellie (MacCreighton) Austin. He had lived in Wolfeboro for most of his life and was a graduate of Kingswood Regional High School. Dale was employed as a boat mechanic at Lanes End Marina in Melvin Village.

He is survived by a son, Dale A. Austin Jr., of Clearwater, Fla., four brothers; Berton Austin, Wolfeboro, Daune Austin, Wolfeboro; David Austin, Wolfeboro; and Dean Austin, Tuftonboro; six sisters, Judy Mitchell, Wolfeboro; Gloria Smith, Wolfeboro; Glenda Haddock, Tuftonboro; Katherine Estes, Farmington; Karen Austin, Tuftonboro; and Kaye Austin, Sanbornton, several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be today (Thursday), 6-8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bean Cemetery, Moultonborough, in the spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Wolfeboro Fire/Rescue Department, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

John H. Walters
Died: Thursday, December 08, 2005
Age: 96

Chase Manhattan Bank retiree

WOLFEBORO - John H. Walters, 96, formerly of Nyack, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee.

John was born June 24, 1906 in Nyack, N.Y., the son of the late John and Jane (Holly) Walters. He had lived in Nyack all of his life before moving to Wolfeboro with is wife three years ago.

He was employed as a Trust administrator for many years and retired from the Chase Manhattan Bank in 1974.

While living in Nyack he was a member of the Mazdppa Engine Company of the Nyack Fire Department for 59 years and also served as its treasurer for 49 of those years. John was also a Trustee of the Village of South Nyack in the 1960s.

John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances (Meehan) Walters, Wolfeboro, and his four daughters, Nancy Kendall, Wolfeboro; Eileen Ruggieri, West Windsor, N.Y.; Katherine Seay, Upper Nyack, N.Y.; and Marilyn Wyman, Rensselaerville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a brother Gerald Walters, Upper Nyack, N.Y.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Dec. 12 at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Alton. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Nyack, N.Y. at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Lord Funeral Home of Wolfeboro is in charge of arrangements.

Darlene Bickford
Died: Thursday, December 08, 2005
Age: 81

Former bookkeeper at Rockingham County Nursing Home

OSSIPEE - Darlene (Nally) Bickford, 81, of Mountain View Apartments died Dec. 8 at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.

Mrs. Bickford was born in Detroit, Mich., Nov. 4, 1924 daughter of the late Robert F. and Emm J. (Hutchins) Nally. She lived most of her life in Waltham, Mass., moving to Ossipee in 1991 previously living in Epping and Fremont.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood for several years.

Pre-deceased by her husband Fremont Bickford Dec. 26, 2003, she leaves a son Fremont "Rick" Bickford II of Exeter, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Following cremation, burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee, is in charge of the arrangements.

Myron Irving Morgan
Died: Friday, January 21, 2005
Age: 93

Brewster Academy graduate

PORTSMOUTH - Myron Irving Morgan, 93, of Denise Street, Portsmouth, died Jan. 21 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Wolfeboro, Aug. 24, 1911, the son of the late Roscoe and Ethel (Gordon) Morgan and lived in Wolfeboro until 1942 when he moved to Portsmouth.

Morgan graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro and attended the University of Virginia. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard from 1939 until 1948, later working at General Electric in Lynn, Mass., as a senior apprentice and is retired from Pease Air Force Base as a supervisor in the preventive maintenance department. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, the Hampton New Hampshire Rod and Gun Club, the South Berwick Rod and Gun Club and was the Muzzle Loading Champion of New Hampshire twice.

Pre-deceased by his wife Mary (McElroy) Morgan Nov. 1, 2004, he leaves a son, Edward, and his wife, Nancy Morgan, of Greenland.

A graveside service for Mr. and Mrs. Morgan will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro in the spring.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is in charge of the arrangements.
