Keenan Zachri Craigue
Died: Tuesday, July 12, 2005

PITTSFIELD, Maine - Keenan Zachri Craigue, stillborn son of Brian Craigue and Tracy Smith, died July 12 at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, Maine.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Caden; paternal grandmother Michelle Porter of Wolfeboro; paternal grandfather Scott Craigue of Tuftonboro; stepgrandfather Benjamine Porter of Newport, Maine; maternal great-grandparents Anita and Bill Segnitz of Wolfeboro; Theodore and Sherma Wood of Destin, Fla.; paternal great-grandparents Jeane Craigue of Tuftonboro and Harley Craigue. Services were in Pittsfield, Maine.

George C. Scribner
Died: Sunday, July 10, 2005
Age: 81

KENNEBUNK, Maine - George C. Scribner, 81, of Kennebunk, Maine and Green Valley, Ariz., died July 10 at University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Scribner was born in Dover on November 19, 1923, the first son of Samuel Harold Scribner and Dorothy Harriet Sweat. He attended Dover High School and the University of New Hampshire in Durham, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing.

He later earned a Bachelor of Science in management engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. He also studied meteorology at New York University and taught that subject at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.

During World War II, he served as a meteorologist and flight engineer in the China-Burma-India theatre, "flying the hump" over the Himalayas to support troops fighting in central China. These experiences fed his love of travel and his study of world religions. After 22 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force Reserve, he retired with the rank of Major in 1966.

Both engineer and entrepreneur, he founded George C. Scribner Associates in Hamilton, Mass., which contributed to the design and construction of many large-scale industrial projects. Scribner was a member of the American Meteorological Society and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He was a member of Theta Chi, the Arundel (Maine) Beach Club, the Arundel Yacht Club, and he was a founding Commodore of the Green Valley (Arizona) Yacht Club.

During the past three decades, Scribner traveled the world. In 1978, he returned to South Asia and Bhutan as a representative of the Smithsonian Institution.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Annette Hamilton Chase; four children, Scott R. Scribner of Long Beach, Calif., Sandra J. Mack of San Diego, Calif., Stephen H. Scribner of Dover, and Schuyler D. Scribner of Nottingham; and four grandchildren: John Mack, Rebekah Mack, Johanna Mack, and Shannon Scribner.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 19, at the South Congregational Church, 14 Temple Street, Kennebunkport. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to: Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

Robert W. Brennan
Died: Friday, July 08, 2005
Age: 43

TAMWORTH - Robert W. Brennan, 43, of Depot Road passed away July 8 in Tamworth.

He was born July 25, 1961 in Gloucester Mass., the son of John and Norma (Sheave) Brennan.

He was a graduate of the Gloucester High School. After living in Windham and Florida, he moved to Tamworth five years ago. Brennan was employed as a security guard at the White Lake State Park in Tamworth. He also was employed for an online gaming company, Game Spy Arcade/IGN.com. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed landscaping.

He leaves his wife, Patricia Playdon Brennan of Tamworth; his children: Melissa Brennan of Nashua, Alexander, Stephanie, and Joshua Brennan of Tamworth; his stepchildren: Dwayne, Robert, Mary-Anne, Nicole, Daniel, and Shaun Blanchette, all of Tamworth; his father, John F. Brennan and his wife Vivian of Halifax Mass.; two brothers, Thomas Brennan and his wife Deborah of Gloucester Mass., Michael Brennan and his wife Rosalind of Gloucester Mass.; nieces and nephews, and his half-sister, Patricia Burenson, of Lynchburg Va. He was predeceased by his mother, Norma Brennan.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, July 12, at the Lord Funeral Home in Center Ossipee. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Virginia (Moody) Atwood
Died: Wednesday, July 06, 2005
Age: 94

NORTH SANDWICH - Virginia (Moody) Atwood, 94, passed away Wednesday morning, July 6 at the Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia. Atwood was born Nov. 10, 1910 in Albany, the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Moore) Moody, and had lived in South Tamworth for several years before moving to Sandwich in 1929.

Atwood moved to the Belknap County Nursing Home in 1999, where she has enjoyed the past six years meeting new friends. Atwood served as vice president and later president of the Resident Council. She will be dearly missed by both the staff and residents of the nursing home.

Atwood was the widow of the late Gerald W. Atwood. She worked as a cook at the Village Inn in Center Sandwich and later for the Corner House Inn and Camp Hale in Center Sandwich.

Atwood was also an avid Red Sox fan, and was grateful to have lived long enough to watch their World Series victory.

Atwood was a member of the South Tamworth United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons Hubert Atwood and G. Alan Atwood, both of Laconia, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Evans of Houston, Texas.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Saturday July 23 at 11 a.m. in the North Sandwich Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246.

Lord Funeral Home in Center Ossipee is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie May Austin
Died: Thursday, November 04, 2004
Age: 88

TUFTONBORO - Nellie May Austin, 88, of Middle Road, died Thursday evening, Nov. 4, at her home. Austin was born Sept. 8, 1916 in Chester, the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Kimball) MacCreighton, and had lived in Tuftonboro for the past several years.

She was the widow of the late Jasper Austin.

Nellie is survived by her children Berton Austin, Wolfeboro; Judith Mitchell, Wolfeboro; Dean V. Austin, Wolfeboro; Gloria Smith, Wolfeboro; Glenda Haddock, Tuftonboro; Kathryn Estes, Farmington; Karen Holland, Bloomingdale, GA; Daune Austin, Wolfeboro; Dale Austin, Wolfeboro; Jaye D. Austin, Sanborton; and David Austin, Wolfeboro; 24 grandchildren and many great grand and great great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers Therron MacCreighton, Newbury; Charles G. MacCreighton, New London; and a sister Frances Chellis, New London, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons Jasper D. Austin Jr., Charles R. Austin and a daughter Beverly A Brown.

Calling hours were Tuesday, Nov. 9, 6-8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial was in the Red Hill Cemetery, Moultonborough.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, P.O. Box 1620. Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

Helen Jean Coleman Marks
Died: Friday, October 29, 2004
Age: 86

Navy WAVE, early pilot and educator

WOLFEBORO - Helen Jean Coleman Marks, 86, a longtime Wolfeboro summer resident, died Oct. 29. Marks was among the first group of U.S. Navy WAVE officers trained at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., in 1942 at the outbreak of World War II.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada on March 13, 1918, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard S. Coleman, she moved to Boston at an early age and became a U.S. Citizen. She was graduated from Girls Latin School of Boston and Simmons College, class of 1939. She was one of the earliest female pilots in the Boston area and a member of the Boston Chapter of the Women Flyers of America. In 1936, she won first prize in a statewide essay competition sponsored by the Boston Sunday Advertiser and Boston Evening American in collaboration with Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures. Her prize was a trip to Paris on the S.S. Normandie and visit to the Paris Exposition as a guest of the French government.

Her career as a respected educator in the state of Massachusetts extended over three decades and included the position of Dean of Students at Garland Junior College in Boston, Chief of Occupational Education for the Massachusetts Department of Education and Coordinator of Women's Programs at the Greater Lawrence Regional Vocational Technical School. As Dean at Garland Junior College she helped establish an affiliated school in Florence, Italy for the study of Renaissance art. In 1963, she was selected to participate on a panel of distinguished educators visiting the Soviet Union under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. Working for the Massachusetts Department of Education, she initiated and implemented many vocational programs for underprivileged young women to learn skills in the area of early childhood education and other areas of human service. These programs were rooted in her firm belief that education should serve to inspire young people, and motivate them to become self sufficient and contributing members of the community. These programs are now well established. In 1986, she received the Massachusetts Vocational Administrators Award in recognition of her service to the state.

She was a member of many professional organizations including the American Home Economics Association (President of Eastern Massachusetts Chapter), American Association of Women Deans and Counselors, the National Home Fashion League (President, New England Chapter) and the Kappa Sigma Phi sorority. She was one of the first women listed in Who's Who of American Women.

She enjoyed history, music and photography. She lived in Brookline, Wellesley and in Gloucester, Mass., and was a long time summer resident of Wolfeboro.

She leaves her husband, the Reverend Dr. James Russell Marks (Cmdr., U.S. Navy, ret.) of Bedford, Mass.; two daughters: Mrs. Eunice Marks Carson (wife of William Waller Carson) of Hopkinton, Mass.; and Dr. Susan Marks Ting (wife of Dr. Samuel C.C. Ting, Nobel Laureate in Physics) of Lexington, Mass. and Geneva, Switzerland. Marks had six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial is at Lake View Cemetery in Wolfeboro, where her parents and other family members are buried.

Robin Gail Edgerly
Died: Thursday, April 05, 2001
Age: 45

Enjoyed nature, gardening, reading and music

WOLFEBORO - Robin Gail Edgerly, 45, of 187 Center St., passed after a yearlong battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Born Sept. 1, 1959, in Rochester, she was the daughter of Roland and Judie (Randlett) Edgerly. She was raised in Rochester and was a 1977 graduate of Spaulding High School. She lived the past 12 years in Wolfeboro.

She worked in the graphic arts industry. She had worked for C&K Printing, Cadorette Printing and Bowers & Merena as a graphic design artist.

She enjoyed nature, gardening, reading, music and her dog, Riley. She loved her daughter, Brittany, her family, Jeff Boggs and Jayne Ogan. She was thankful and appreciative of those who helped her to stay at home as long as possible and ANR for their financial support. She also wished to thank the many people involved in the agencies serving her needs, especially Nelda at the VNA. A special thank you also to Becky Diamond, who was her personal caregiver and friend.

Robin is survived by her daughter, Brittany of, Wolfeboro; Corey Eastman, of Wolfeboro; her father of Rochester; two sisters: Lisa and her husband, Chris Boggs, of Ossipee, and Jodi and her husband, Ernie Cook Jr., or Rochester; an uncle, Ronald Randlett; nephews, Cameron and Cole Boggs and Corbin Cook; and cousins, Jada and Haleigh Patch.

Her mother predeceased her.

A celebration of her life was held Sunday, Jan. 2, in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, with Pastor Art Stone of Emmanuel Advent Christian Church officiating.

Myron and Mary Morgan

WOLFEBORO - Graveside services for Myron "Mike" and Mary G. Morgan, formerly of Wolfeboro, will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 29 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro. A reception will follow at the Lakeview Inn in Wolfeboro.
