Lawrence A. Graham
Died: Tuesday, November 01, 2005
Age: 84

WOLFEBORO - Lawrence A. (Larry) Graham of Wolfeboro, former owner and president of Graham Manufacturing Company in Holyoke, Mass., died Nov. 1 at age 84. Graham Manufacturing Company was founded in 1939 by his parents. Mr. Graham served as the company's president for 25 years until 1970 when the business was sold to Johnson & Johnson.

A well-known business and community leader, Mr. Graham was a charter member-director and Chairman of the Board of Hampshire National Bank of South Hadley, Mass. from 1972 to 1987, a former treasurer of the Shriners Hospital, Springfield, Mass., and a past director and president of the Holyoke Hospital. He was also a former director of Andover Insurance Company in Andover, Mass.

Larry was active in South Hadley/Holyoke community affairs. He served for 20 years as a commissioner of South Hadley's Electric Light Board, was on the town's Finance Board, and an active town meeting member. Mr. Graham was also a trustee of the Evergreen Cemetery Association and one of the founders of the South Hadley Swim Club. A member of the First Congregational Church of South Hadley, he served as chairman of its Board of Trustees and was a tenor in the church choir for over 40 years. In addition, he was a member of the Mount Holyoke Masonic Lodge, Melha Temple, and the Royal Order of Jeter's Court 144. Larry was honored by the Holyoke St. Patrick's Day Committee as its 1997 Citizen of the Year.

Following his retirement to Moultonborough in 1980, Larry became active in the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and was named an honorary trustee. He was a member of Bald Creek Colony Club and Kingswood Golf Club.

Mr. Graham was born in South Hadley, Mass. on Sept. 12, 1921, the son of Floyd and Maude Graham. He was predeceased by his brother Donald, who died in 1934. A graduate of South Hadley High School and Williston Academy, Mr. Graham received an engineering degree in pulp and paper technology from the University of Maine. He served in the Pacific theater as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in WWII. Married to Muriel Kent in 1945, he is survived by his four children: Susan Simpson and her husband Alan of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Warwick, R.I.; Donald Graham and his wife Barbara Loh of Longmeadow, Mass.; Nancy Lundquist and her husband Barry of Falmouth, Maine; and David Graham and his wife Donna Schauer of Shrewsbury, Vt. He is also survived by seven grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the First Congregational Church in South Hadley, Mass. with a reception immediately following at Willets Hallowell, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass. A reception in his memory will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20 in Wolfeboro at the Barn, Lakeview Inn, from 2 to 4 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Graham's memory may be sent to the First Congregational Church of South Hadley, 1 Church Street, South Hadley, Mass. 01075; Lakes Region Conservation Trust, PO Box 1097, Meredith 03253 or charity of choice.

Robert W. Eaton
Died: Monday, October 31, 2005
Age: 76

WOLFEBORO - Robert W. Eaton, 76, of Birch Hill Estates, died Monday, Oct. 31, at the SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Wolfeboro. He was born May 11, 1929 in Waltham, Mass., the son of the late Bertram W. and Dorcas (Butler) Eaton. Bob grew up in Waltham, graduating from Waltham High School in 1948 and later attending and graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1951.

Following his graduation, Bob married Carol Whitney and moved to Walpole, Mass., where he worked as a florist and raised his family. He had summered with his parents on Triggs Island on Lake Wentworth in Wolfeboro since he was two months old. In 1980, he and his wife moved to Wolfeboro. Bob became a very active member of the First Christian Church of Wolfeboro, where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and also sang in the choir and Worship Team.

Bob leaves his wife of almost 55 years, Carol (Whitney) Eaton, and their children: Cynthia Whitney Eaton, Ithaca, N.Y.; Deborah A. Moore and her husband Wayne, Epsom; Laurie E. Stamell and her husband Matt, Shutesbury, Miss., and Robert W. Eaton, Jr. and his wife Touria, Amherst, Mass. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Richard W. Eaton and his wife Kathy, of Wolfeboro, a sister-in-law, Shirley Hatch, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan M. Eaton.

Calling hours will be today (Nov. 1), 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Wolfeboro, on North Main Street. Burial will be in the Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham, Mass., at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Cornerstone Christian Academy, Scholarship Fund, 129 Rte. 28, Ossipee, N.H. 03864.

Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Gail P. Peck
Died: Monday, October 31, 2005
Age: 66

NEW DURHAM - Gail P. Peck, 66, formerly of North Andover, Mass., died peacefully at her home on Monday, Oct. 31 after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer.

Born August 23, 1939 in Woodhaven, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Evelyn (Weigland) Holly. She attended colleges in California and Massachusetts. She was employed for many years in personnel recruiting, most recently as proprietor of Transitions Unlimited of Andover, Mass.

Her many interests included sewing, quilting, ceramics, and home decorating. She was also an avid gardener and excelled in gourmet cooking.

She was a devoted wife and mother, and took great pleasure in sharing time with her grandchildren.

Family members include her husband of 42 years, Douglas J. Peck, daughters Julie Trevisan and her husband Jay of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. and Kelley Newby and her husband Mike of Elk Ridge, Utah; a sister, Judy Berry of Cokato, Minn., four grandchildren and several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were Friday, Nov. 4, at the Lord Funeral Home. On Saturday, Nov. 5, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Alton, with burial at John C. Shirley Memorial Cemetery in New Durham.

The family has requested that donations in her memory be sent to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

Calvin J. Wyman
Died: Sunday, October 30, 2005
Age: 81

NEW DURHAM - Calvin J. Wyman, 81, of Valley Road in New Durham, died suddenly at home, Sunday evening, Oct. 30.

Born June 4, 1924 in Keene, he was the son of the late Carl W. & Margaret K. (Higgins) Wyman. For the past ten years he had lived in Lakeland, Fla. Prior to that, he lived in Portsmouth for 10 years, and was a former longtime resident of Alton.

Calvin was a United States Naval Veteran of World War II.

He was retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He was formerly an active member of the Alton-New Durham Lions Club. While in Florida, he enjoyed singing with the Harmoneers, entertaining at various nursing homes. Calvin was an avid golfer.

The widower of the late Shirley M. (Shillady) Wyman, he leaves three children: Diane M. Barnet of New Durham, Alan J. Wyman of Kennebunk, Maine and Melody G. Horne of New Durham. He also leaves four granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

There are no calling hours. Family and friends are welcome to a Memorial Service on Tuesday Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the New Durham Ambulance, Main Street, New Durham, NH 03855.

Craig T. Patten Jr.
Died: Sunday, October 30, 2005
Age: 24

LEBANON, Maine - Craig T. Patten Jr., better known as "Bub," died Sunday Oct. 30 in Shapleigh, Maine.

Bub was born on May 24, 1981, in Wolfeboro. He was the son of Craig T. Sr. and Cindy L. (Clough) Patten. He attended Massabesic schools and worked for Libby-Scott as a paver, a job he loved.

Bub enjoyed the outdoors. He spent time camping with family and friends, fishing, playing golf, and when the weather turned he would head out on his snowmobile as fast as he could, leaving a trail of powder in the air. As a man that lived life on the edge, Bub traveled to Tennessee to go hang-gliding, would ride his cycle as fast as he could, and at the same time appreciated the wonderful world he saw.

Bub enjoyed making people happy. He often brought a smile to those around him. Although his time on earth was short, Bub made the absolute best of it, never putting off to tomorrow what he could do today.

There was a sensitive side to Bub. He would often bring in stray pets. He was a caring "big brother" to his cousin Johnnie, and would have given the shirt off his own back to anyone who needed it.

Bub leaves his parents, Craig T. Sr., and Cindy Patten of West Newfield; a sister, Kristy Staples and her husband Scott, of Limerick, Maine; two nieces, Samantha and Allie; his grandparents, Dr. John and Avis Patten of Wolfeboro and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A 6 p.m. memorial service for Bub will be held tomorrow, Nov. 4, at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Craig's name to the ASPCA Disaster Relief Fund, PO Box 96116, Washington, DC 20090-6116 to help the animals displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Amy Jean Schweitzer
Died: Saturday, October 29, 2005
Age: 34

MERIDEN, Conn. - Amy Jean Schweitzer died unexpectedly at her home in Meriden on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Born in Escanaba, Mich. on May 27, 1971, she was the loving daughter of David and Virginia Schweitzer of Wakefield. She was a long-time resident of Ridgefield, Conn., where she graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1989 and attended home health care classes and cosmetology training in Danbury, Conn.

Amy was a long time member of the First Congregational Church of Danbury, Conn., and worked in the Danbury area as a home health care worker, cosmetologist and at Northside Animal Hospital caring for all varieties of rescued pets including her beloved cat Fordy. A caring, courageous, compassionate and loving person, she leaves many friends in Connecticut and New Hampshire.

Family members include her sisters Catherine Lynn Schweitzer of Wakefield, Bethany Marie (Schweitzer) and Ronald Furman of Brookfield, Conn.; her brother, Jeffrey Russell Schweitzer of Stamford, Conn.; matriarch Marjorie Ruth Buettner of Milwaukee, Wis., and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in California, Colorado and Wisconsin.

A memorial service to celebrate Amy's life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Wakefield at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, led by Reverend Peter Foss. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Amy's memory can be made to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS), Inc., PO Box 971, Danbury, CT 06813.

Elisabeth Ravenscroft
Died: Saturday, October 29, 2005
Age: 79

WOLFEBORO - Elisabeth (Jenkins) Ravenscroft, 79, died Oct. 29, at the SunBridge care facility of Wolfeboro.

Elisabeth was born Oct. 17, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of the late George and Gertrude Jenkins, and had lived in Wolfeboro for the past several years. Elisabeth spent most of her adult life as a businesswoman in the accounting and bookkeeping fields. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the DAC, along with being an avid amateur genealogist. She had a love for the history of our country. Elisabeth was also very fond of art and classical music.

She will be sorely missed by those who love her.

Elisabeth is survived by her children Bruce Ravenscroft, Lincoln Calcavecchi and Susan Gorman. She also leaves a sister, Janice M. Sanborn, and a brother, Edson Jenkins.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial Services will be held this Sunday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Center Street, Wolfeboro Falls.

Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro, assisted the family with arrangements.

Guy Paul Parker
Died: Friday, October 28, 2005
Age: 86

KINGSTON - Guy Paul Parker, 86, died at the Exeter Hospital on Friday, Oct. 28, surrounded and comforted by his family. Guy faced his final hours with courage and humor.

He was born in South Wilmington, Conn. on Aug. 16, 1919, the son of the late Frank and Maria (Crispino) Papa.

He spent his youth in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, he attended and graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. He attended and received a Master of Arts Degree in psychology from Tufts University.

Mr. Parker pursued a lifelong career as an educator. He taught at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass. and at Peekskill Military Academy in Peekskill, N.Y. where he also coached wrestling. He spent the last 25 years of his career in Massachusetts with the Gloucester public school system as the school psychologist. Mr. Parker was dedicated to providing an equal opportunity for education to all students and to the pursuit of excellence in the teaching profession.

He was an accomplished pewter smith, photographer, cook, woodworker and swimmer. While staying at Camp Mandalay on Winter Harbor, he loved to fish the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Curran of Kingston; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Timothy Acerno of Raymond; his son, Harold B. Parker of Wolfeboro; his beloved grandchildren Gregory and Lindsay; his brothers, Curino and Anthony Papa of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Gary Paul Parker, of Wolfeboro.

A public graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro, where he will be interred alongside his son, Gary.

Donations in Guy's memory can be made to the Trooper Gary P. Parker Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 149, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. He was co-founder of the scholarship fund that supports the college education of students interested in public service careers.
