George H. Picardy
Died: Friday, December 02, 2005
Age: 83

WOLFEBORO - George H. Picardy, 83, of 100 Beech Pond Road, died Friday, Dec. 2, at the Davis Hill Farm, Sanbornville.

He was born March 4, 1922, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Charles C. and Nettie M. (Nelson) Picardy. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School and was a long time resident of Lynn, until retiring to Wolfeboro in 1985. Picardy was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He was employed for many years as an oil burner service technician for Scolan's Fuel of Lynn, Mass., and retired from Pickering Oil of Salem, Mass. After his retirement, he worked for DeVylder's Market in Wolfeboro.

He was the past president of American Legion Post 291 of Lynn, a member of the Knights of Columbus of Lynn and Wolfeboro, had served as an usher at St. Cecilia's Church in Wolfeboro, and was a single engine airplane enthusiast.

He was the husband of Annabelle (Hamel) Picardy, who died in 2003, and is survived by two daughters, Carol Tucker of Durham and Nancy Sacherski of Lynn; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Nickerson of Porter, Maine and Natalie Whitehouse of Saugus, Mass., as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by bothers Leslie Clay, Charles Picardy Jr., and Alva Picardy and by a sister, Marjorie Hatch.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private for the family with burial with military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, in Lynn.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home on Mill St., Wolfeboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Keith V. King
Died: Thursday, December 01, 2005
Age: 52

ALTON BAY - Keith V. King Jr., 52, formerly of Keene, died Thursday, Dec. 1, at home in Alton Bay.

He was the son of Keith V. Sr. and Mary (Parsons) King of Alton Bay.

Married 22 years, he is survived by his wife, Betty (Kearney) King of Alton Bay and his sister, Louise King of Pittsfield.

Keith was a graduate of Keene State College and received his master's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He retired from the United States Air Force in 2000, having earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In recent years, he and his family have been devoted to building their log home.

Always ready to lend a hand to neighbors and friends, Keith also volunteered for Great Waters Music Festival and Village Players in Wolfeboro, as well as Alton's long-running publication, "Main Street," and Boy Scout Troop 53 in Alton.

A memorial service will be held in Keith's honor in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Keith V. King Jr. Family Fund at Citizens Bank.

Phillip E. Thurrell
Died: Thursday, December 01, 2005
Age: 83

Veteran, avid fisherman

LANSDALE, Pa. - Philip E. Thurrell of Valley View, Pa. died Thursday, Dec. 1, at Central Montgomery Hospital in Lansdale, Pa. He was 83.

He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Gray) Thurrell.

Born in Wolfeboro on July 8, 1922, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Florence (Farley) Thurrell.

Mr. Thurrell was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was employed as a poultry manager.

Mr. Thurrell was a past president of Wolfeboro Rotary ad a member of Hegins Lions Club. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed trout fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his seven children, Tricia Thurrell, Judy Thurrell, Susan Pratt, Phyllis Reynolds, Ellen Burnham, Marcia Burns and Marie Wagner; his three brothers, Robert, Roger and Larry Thurrell; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Dec. 5 and interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, High Point Professional Building, 700 Horizon Circle, Suite 201, Chalfont, PA 18914.

Charles Gilbert Fistere
Died: Thursday, December 01, 2005
Age: 79

Served in Pacific Theater in WWII

LACONIA - Charles Gilbert Fistere, 79, of Laconia Taylor Community, died Thursday, Dec. 1.

He was born Sept. 7, 1926, the son of the late Howard C. and Bertha Gilbert Fistere, in New Rochelle, N.Y. In his Senior year at Isaac Young High School, Gilbert enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He proudly displayed our nation's flag.

The Fistere family are devoted life-long members of the Methodist Church. He met his late wife Lois in the Saint John's Methodist Youth Group. Gilbert and Lois were members for 31 years of the Rochester Methodist Church.

After the Army, he attended the New Haven (Connecticut) Community College and apprenticed to the Electricians' Master Program. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers' Union for more than 55 years.

He was a life- member of the Appalachian Mountain Club – and the "4,000-footers" Club, The National Rifle Association, and The Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests. The family resided in Strafford for 31 years on a Christmas Tree Farm; then he and Lois retired, and moved to Ossipee to enjoy their lake cottage.

During his life, Gilbert passionately climbed throughout the White Mountains, skied and camped with his children. Gilbert recently traveled with Elder Hostel to Alaska

Besides his parents, Gilbert is predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Lois Muriel Cudlipp, and, in 2005, by his eldest son David Charles Fistere.

Surviving members include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tim Torode, of Wolfeboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Renee Fistere, of Somersworth; daughter-in-law Eaine Fistere; a sister Bettie Roche, of York, Maine: a sister, Jeanne Fistere, of Wallingford, Conn.; a brother, Howard C. Fistere and wife Linda, of Plymouth, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Reta and husband Warner Herlyn of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours. A Military Memorial Service was held Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery Chapel, Boscawen.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tuftonboro United Methodist Church Restoration Fund, PO Box 972 C/O D.Elliott Moultonborough, NH 03254.

Ronald L. Ridlon
Died: Wednesday, November 30, 2005
Age: 67

Active in his community

PENDLETON, S.C. - Ronald L. Ridlon, of Pendleton, S.C., died Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, at the age of 67. Ronald was born in Wolfeboro in 1938 and was the son of the late Delia (Hill) Glidden and Filburt Ridlon. He attended Brewster Academy and served in the United States Army. He worked in the construction industry all his life and retired to South Carolina where he was very active in the local community. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his sons, Filburt and Russell; his daughter Robin Wiggins; his sister, Sandra Newell of N.Y.; his brother, Reggie Ridlon of Fla.; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Elsie (Tuttle) Bly
Died: Tuesday, November 29, 2005
Age: 97

WOLFEBORO - Elsie (Tuttle) Bly, 97, of Center Street, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the New Hampshire Odd Fellows Home, Presidential Oaks, Concord.

Elsie was born Dec. 13, 1907 in North Barnstead, the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Norrine) Tuttle. She attended local schools in Barnstead and Pittsfield and later graduated from the Concord Business College in Concord.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Endicott Furniture Company and Nardini's Restaurant, both in Concord. At the time of her marriage in 1940, she was employed at the office of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Concord.

In May of 1940, she married Rufus W. Bly Sr. and later moved to Wolfeboro, where she lived for 58 years. Elsie also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband in his construction company.

While living in Wolfeboro, she owned and operated Bly's Dari Curl on Route 28 for 20 years. She served as past president of the Wolfeboro Women's Club. She also held membership in the Wolfeboro Grange. Elise was past president of the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge #48, Wolfeboro and past president of the DLAPM in Laconia and a member of the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro, where she served as a Deaconess. Elsie was the first Welcome Wagon Representative in the Wolfeboro area. She also served as a Cub Scout den mother.

Elsie enjoyed playing the piano. For many summers she played the organ at the Wolfeborough Center Community Church. She and her late husband traveled extensively with the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Assembly. Unknown to many, she also loved writing poetry.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Rufus W. Bly Sr. and is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Blandini and her husband Vincent of North Andover, Mass. and Wolfeboro; a son, Rufus W. "Zeke" Bly Jr. and his wife Carol Bly of Wolfeboro; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Route 28 in Wolfeboro. Funeral services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, South Main Street, Wolfeboro. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Barnstead.

Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Raymond M. Adjutant
Died: Tuesday, November 29, 2005
Age: 84

SOMERSWORTH - Raymond M. Adjutant, 84, (formerly of Route 109 in Tuftonboro), passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover. He was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Tuftonboro and had lived in Tuftonboro all of his life before moving to Somersworth to live with his daughter, Phyllis.

Mr. Adjutant (Raymond) had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He had worked as a carpenter for Norman Poisson Construction for several years. While living in Somersworth, he became a member of the Senior Friends – HU2.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife Helen (Dougherty) Adjutant and is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Wer and her husband Jose of Somersworth, and Patricia Bliss and her husband David of Waco, Texas. He also leaves six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Kenneth Hulshuk, Tuftonboro; two sisters, Pauline Dearborn, Rollinsford, and Barbara Dore, Tuftonboro; as well as nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Lord Funeral Home in Wolfeboro. Burial will be in the Town House Cemetery, Tuftonboro.
