Donna L. BonEnfant

PORTSMOUTH - Donna L. "Grammie" BonEnfant, 54, of 25 Blue Heron Drive, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at her home after a lengthy period of illness.

Born Feb. 6, 1945, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of William and Louise (Pratt) McQuilkin.

A homemaker, she enjoyed knitting, embroidery, crocheting, spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a former member of T.O.P.S. of Maine.

She was the wife of Thomas J. BonEnfant Sr. of Portsmouth.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Thomas J. BonEnfant Jr. and his wife, Michele, of South Berwick; three daughters, Robyn Glover and her husband, William, of Barrington, Carol BonEnfant of Portsmouth, and Rebecca Herring and her husband, Eric, of Portsmouth; an adopted daughter, Robin Tukey and husband, Andrew, of Kittery; two grandchildren, Danielle Glover and Thomas J. BonEnfant III; two adopted grandchildren, Allyson, Samantha and Alexandria Tukey; a brother, William McQuilkin Jr. of Albion, Maine; three sisters, Carol Gordon of Portsmouth, Linda Walker of Brandon, Fla., and Bette Yohnka of Arcanum, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Brittny Glover.

Alfonso J. DeCosta

PORTSMOUTH - Alfonso John DeCosta, 72, formerly of 323 Franklin St., Manchester, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Feb. 6, 1927, in Solvay, N.Y., he was the son of the late Agusto and Maria DeCosta. He was a 1944 graduate of Solvay High School.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He was an avid traveler and golfer. He was also a foster grandparent.

Survivors include two sons, Philip DeCosta of Shohola, Pa., and Robert DeCosta of Cocoa, Fla.; a daughter, Julie DeCosta of Deerfield, N.H.; a brother, A.J. DeCosta of Palm Springs, Calif.; a sister, Ethel Simao of Solvay; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph DeCosta, and a sister, Emily DeCosta.

Louise C. Reed

MEDFIELD, Mass. - Louise C. Reed, 74, of died Monday, June 7, 1999, at the Chilton House in Cambridge.

Born Nov. 17, 1924, in Leominster, Mass., she was the daughter of William Leroy Chase and Elizabeth Henrietta (Moore) Chase. Formerly of Arlington and Leominster, she was a 1942 graduate of Leominster High School and a 1944 graduate of the Fisher Business School.

She was an executive assistant for more than 40 years, working for many companies in the area.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann E. Nadeau and husband James of Woburn, Mass., and Carol B. Reed and husband Bob Snodgrass of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, James C. Nadeau and Elizabeth A. Nadeau, both of Woburn.

She was predeceased by brothers Paul, Howard and Philip Chase.

Beatrice M. Haight

HAMPTON - The funeral for Beatrice M. "Bea" Haight, 68, of 51 Esker Road, was held Wednesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. George E. Ham, pastor, was the celebrant. John Hebert, Pete Cassavant and Ed Schreier were acolytes. Organist was Marion Arnoldy and soloist was Patricia Mackensen. The readings were by Rene West and Joseph MacDonnell. The gifts were presented to the altar by Mrs. Haight's grandchildren, Ryan DeFreze and Heather West.

Words of remembrance were offered by Jacquie DeFreze.

Pallbearers were Joe DeFreze, Keith Taylor, Sean Haight, Jeff West, Jerry Lonergan, James Rogers and Ryan DeFreze.

After cremation in the Phoenix Crematory, private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, N.Y.

Martin W. Shapleigh

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Martin W. Shapleigh, 81, of 57 Fore Road, Eliot, were held at Buckminster Chapel on Wednesday. The Rev. David Avery, pastor, of the First Congregational Church of Eliot, officiated.

Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot. Committal services were conducted by the Rev. Avery.

Bearers were Stan Shapleigh, Brian Shapleigh, Duane Shapleigh, Sid DeRaps, Joe Webster and Kevin DeRaps.

Thomas E. Goodwin

HAMPTON - Thomas E. Goodwin, 57, of 61 Schooner Landing, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1941, in Dorchester, Mass., he was the son of the late Keith W. Goodwin Sr. and Elizabeth (MacIntosh) Goodwin. He was a graduate of Stoneham (Mass.) High School and the Peterson School of Engineering in Boston. He lived in Andover, Mass., for many years, moving to Hampton 10 years ago.

He was a fireman third class for the Textron Co. in Wilmington, Mass.

He enjoyed walking, gardening and dining out.

He was the husband of Patricia A. (Roberts) Goodwin for 21 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Michael H. Sarcione of Lawrence, Mass., Robert E. Sarcione of Pembroke, N.H., Stephen R. Goodwin and Scott A. Goodwin, both of Dover; two daughters, Barbara E. Watkinson of Hampton and Sandra A. Cote of Stratham; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Keith W. Goodwin Jr. of Gloucester, Mass., and John Goodwin of Stoneham; and a sister, Patricia A. Tedesci of Florida.

He was predeceased by a son, Francis N. Sarcione; and a daughter, Lisa M. DesRoches.

Stanley G. Godfrey

COLDWATER, Mich. - Stanley Gray Godfrey, 74, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at Community Health Center of Branch County.

Born May 3, 1925, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Shirley and Marguerite (DeCuir) Godfrey.

An accomplished dancer, musician, choreographer and teacher, he worked in fine arts in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

He was the husband of Diane (Pluister) Godfrey. The couple were married June 10, 1994.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Steven C. Godfrey; a daughter, Jocelyn A. Godfrey; three grandsons, Syd E. Godfrey, Miles G. Godfrey and Leon Z. Godfrey; a brother, Robert Godfrey; and three sisters, Shirley (Godfrey) Hoonhout, Julie (Godfrey) Daly and Emily (Godfrey) Barr.

Services and burial will be in Coldwater, Mich.

David Lincoln

RAYMOND - David Lincoln, 61, of Harriman Hill Road, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 10, 1999, at Exeter Hospital after a history of illness.

Born Dec. 3, 1937, in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of the late Arthur Sr. and Blanche (Walsh) Lincoln. A resident of Raymond for the last 31 years, he previously lived in New Bedford and attended schools there.

A member of the Army, he served during the Korean conflict.

After 29 years, he retired as captain of the communications division of the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department.

He was a member and past president of the Rockingham County Law Enforcement; a commissioner and one of the originators of the emergency 911 program; and secretary and treasurer of the New Hampshire Sheriffs Association.

He was the husband of Mary (Hureau) Lincoln for 31 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Lincoln and Catherine Lincoln, both of Raymond; a brother, Dennis Lincoln of Burlington, Mass.; a sister, Caroline Bisson of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Florence C. Smith

NEWFIELDS - Florence C. Smith, 84, of Main Street, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Exeter Hospital.

Born Sept. 19, 1914, in Norfolk, Va., she lived in Newfields for many years.

She was a longtime member of the Rockingham County Extension Group, was past president of the Newfields PTA, and was a dedicated volunteer with the Red Cross blood drives in the Seacoast area.

She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

She was the wife of the late George Earl Smith, who died in 1987.

Survivors include two sons, George E. Smith Jr. of Hartland, Vt., and Robert W. Smith of Sumner, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Peggy) Bragg of Newfields; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and a niece.

Allen K. King

NORTH HAMPTON - Allen K. King, 77, of 108 Post Road, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at his home after a long period of illness.

Born Sept. 12, 1921, in Danvers, Mass., he was the son of Richard and Jeannie F. (Allen) King. He was a 1940 graduate of Holton High School in Danvers. He had resided in the Rye and Hampton area since the early 1950s, settling in North Hampton in 1958.

He worked many years as a mason and bricklayer for several area construction firms, including Paul Harvey Construction of Manchester. During World War II, he worked on military aircraft for Embry-Riddle in Arcadia, Fla.

He was a 50-year Gold Card member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local No. 1 of Lee. He had served as secretary-treasurer and as president for 12 years for the former Local No. 6 of Lee.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in North Hampton, where he had served as chairman of the Building Committee, overseeing the construction of the Sunday school addition during the 1960s.

He was the husband of Janet M. (House) King for 48 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Allen K. King Jr. and his wife, Karen Sanchez, of Pacific Palisades, Calif., Joseph P. King of Portsmouth, Ross J. King and his wife, Rotsana, of Alhambra, Calif., Geordie H. King and his wife, Debra, of Eliot, and Timothy F. King of Bangkok, Thailand; three daughters, Jeanne E. King of Augusta, Maine, Heather D. King and her husband, Timothy Brown, of Los Angeles, and Meredith A. King of Northampton, Mass.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his nephew, Richard G. King; and a niece.

He was predeceased by his brother Robert King in 1977.

Stanley F. Dorey

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Stanley F. Dorey, 59, of Jacksonville, N.C., died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of Stanley William Dorey and Irene F. Grenier.

He was a Vietnam veteran, serving with the Army.

He retired from the Penn Corps Insurance Co.

An avid hunter, he was a member of the North Carolina Bow Hunters Association and chartered the East Carolina Bow Hunters Association.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia J. Dorey of Jacksonville; two daughters, Kathy Merrill and husband, Roger, of Roxboro, N.C., and Tracey Lausterer and husband, David, of Jacksonville; his mother, Irene F. Grenier, and stepfather, Robert, of Dover, N.H.; his stepmother, Beulah Addorio, and husband, Joseph, of Portsmouth, N.H.; and four grandchildren, Ryan and William Lausterer, and Jonathan and Jessica Merrill.

He was predeceased by his father.

Funeral services will be private.
