Zina Grottker
Zina Grottker, 75, proprietor of Zina's Beauty Salon of Newmarket, Ontario, and accomplished artist, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at Markham Stouffville Hospital, Ontario.
Zina Grottker was the beloved wife of William; dearest mother of Mira and her husband Barbaros Celikkol of Portsmouth, N.H., Tanya Grottker and her spouse Marc Creces of Liery, Ontario, and Tammy Grottker of North Vancouver, B.C.; and proud grandmama of Yesim and Erin Celikkol.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. South, Newmarket, Ontario.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, followed by cremation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, 265 Manchester St., Newmarket, ON L3Y 6J4, or the Lung Association.
Madlyn B. Harding
BROOKSVILLE, Maine - Madlyn B. "Miggy" Harding, 79, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Born March 23, 1920, in Brooksville, she was the daughter of Lewis and Iva (Snow) Black.
During her life she worked in at many trades.
She worked at the woolen mill in Ellsworth, helped her husband operate an auto body garage.
For several years she worked as a home caregiver.
She was a member of the Rainbow Grange 203.
Survivors include a son, Edward A. Black Sr. of Brooksville, with whom she lived for the past several years; a daughter, Drusilla Dennett of Madbury; an adopted son, Frederick "Freddie" Woods of Ellsworth; a sister, Gertrude McLaughlin of Dexter; two brothers, Ernest and Richard Black, both of Brooksville; and a sister, Mary Snow of Penobscot; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Rober "Bunk" Black, Archie Black, and William Black; a sister, Peggy Ladd; and her parents.
Rena Cannava
Rena Cannava from Portsmouth was born into this world Feb. 26, 1925.
Entered into eternal life June 12, 1999. God, our loving Father, You have given us a beautiful companion, joyful wife and mother.
In her life, she showed us love of God, in our spiritual journey by loving and serving all of us.
Thank you for the gift of Rena.
May she now rest in peace, along with her daughter, Leslie in your arms eternally. Amen.

Ann C. Conroy
PORTSMOUTH - Ann C. "Nancy" Conroy, 78, of Shapleigh Island, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at The Edgewood Centre.
Born June 19, 1921, in Dedham, Mass., she was the daughter of William and Mary Jane (Brown) Delaney.
She was a Portsmouth resident for the past 50 years.
She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
She was a former member of Portsmouth Country Club, Wentworth Fairways, and the Portsmouth Hospital Guild.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Thomas Conroy, who died in 1989.
Survivors include four children, Kathleen Malinowski and her husband, Keith, of Portsmouth, Dr. Christopher Conroy and his wife, Karen, of Portsmouth, Nora McCarthy and her husband, David, of Ventura, Calif., and Nancy McMaster and her husband, Chris, of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; two brothers, William Delaney of Massachusetts, and John Delaney of Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Michael Conroy.
Willard J. Stoddard
MANCHESTER - Willard J. Stoddard, 74, of 55 Greenview Drive, died June 26, 1999, at the Eliot Hospital after a long period of illness.
Born April 12, 1925, in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Bradford and Christine (Jones) Stoddard.
He lived in Portland for many years.
For the past 33 year he lived in Manchester.
He attended the Maine Maritime Academy and served in the Merchant Marines of the Coast Guard during World War II.
He worked for the Portland Gas Company for many years and also worked at Travelers Insurance Co. until his retirement.
He was a member of the Free Masons, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was the husband of Mary (Pert) Stoddard of Manchester for 51 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, James, Jon and Perry Stoddard, all of Manchester; three daughters, Mrs. Jo A. McDonald of Burlington, Vt., Mrs. Kenneth (Linda) Mullen of Manchester, and Mrs. Dave (Sue) Joseph of Bedford; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Estes of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
T. Penn French
DOVER - T. Penn French, 87, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at Riverside Nursing Home, Dover, after a long period of illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1911, in Seattle, he was the son of Albert N. and Clara (Wehner) French.
He was a 1929 graduate of Dover High School. In 1933, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire, where his father was dean of Liberal Arts in the 1920s.
After college he served in the Merchant Marines for one year.
During World War II, he served in the Navy as the captain of a landing craft infantry.
He and his wife Evelyn owned and operated Harley's Diner in Lee for many years.
He was a member of the Barrington VFW and a former member of the Bourgoin-Reardon A.L. Post in Durham.
In 1993, he moved to Waldron Towers in Dover. He resided at Riverside Nursing Home for the past two years.
He was the husband of the late Evelyn French, who died in 1978. In 1982, he married Irma Griggs, a longtime friend of the family. She died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Darryl (Barbara) Hamson of South Berwick; a son, Thomas P. French Jr. and his wife Judi of Williamsburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Douglas French and Christopher French, both of Virginia, Lynanne Fowle of North Carolina, and Warren Teague of Connecticut; and eight great-grandchildren.
Zacarias T. Chavez
PORTSMOUTH _ Zacarias T. Chavez, 84, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at Sunrise Health Center.
Born Nov. 5, 1914, in Libmanan, Philippines, he was the son of Gaudencio and Maria Chavez.
He lived there until moving to Portsmouth in 1976.
For many years, he was employed at the former Booth Fisheries until retiring.
He was an avid gardener and a wrestling enthusiast.
He was the husband of Felicidad (Cocatana) Chavez.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Manuel Chavez and his wife, Marilyn, of Portsmouth, Rogelio Chavez and his wife, Luzviminda, of Portsmouth, Arturo Chavez of Apex, N.C., Amadeo and his wife, Marjorie, of San Diego, and Edgardo and his wife, Joshee, of Woodbridge, Va.; four daughters, Irene Gackle and her husband, Ron, of Honolulu, Amparo Registrado and her husband, Ricardo, of Apex, Ofelia Bayhon and her husband, Romy, of Apex, and Lolita Drabinowicz and her husband, John, of Hudson, N.H.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother in the Philippines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers.
Herbert F. Rawson Sr.
NEWFIELDS - Herbert F. Rawson Sr., 71, of Pleasant Street, died suddenly Monday, June 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 24, 1927, in Stratham, he was the son of William and Faith (Wentworth) Rawson.
He lived in Stratham for many years before moving to Newfields 22 years ago.
He was a self-employed brick mason for many years.
He also worked for S.E. LaPerle & Son, Dwight Sharp Construction, Wentworth Lumber and Seacoast Mills Building Supply Co.
He was the husband of the late Grace (Davey) Rawson, who died in 1972, and of the late Barbara (Scruton) Rawson, who died in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Herbert F. Rawson Jr. of Nottingham, N.H., John E. Rawson of Newmarket and Allan Davey of Exeter; seven grandchildren, Tina Schurrman of Wilmington, Mass., Tami Glover of Exeter, Mathew and Victoria Rawson, both of Newmarket, Brenda Nisbit of Newmarket, Allan Davey Jr. of Rochester, and Christina Rawson of Exeter; seven great-grandchildren; two stepsisters, Ida Vigue of Epping and Laurie Wright of Barrington; a stepbrotherrad Rawson; and several nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth E. Blake
KITTERY - Elizabeth Ellen Blake, 80, of 19 Love Lane, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at her home
Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Kittery Point, she was the daughter of Ethel E. (Moore) Blake of Kittery and Herbert L. Blake.
She attended Kittery schools and was a 1936 graduate of Traip Academy.
She attended the First Christian Church of Kittery Point. She was a member of the Rebecca's and the Piscataqua chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was also a bird lover and a member of the Audubon Society.
In addition to her mother, survivors include a brother, Everett Blake and his wife, Ethel, of Derry, N.H.; two nieces, Brenda Kuhfuss and her husband, John, of Greenville, S.C., and Carol Pelletier and her husband, Michael, of Derry; and two nephews, Herbert Blake and his wife, Priscilla, of Hooksett, N.H., and Raymond Blake and his wife, Mary, of Sunapee, N.H.
