Anne Louise Nudd

HAMPTON - Anne Louise (Davis) Nudd, 78, a longtime Hampton resident, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at Exeter Hospital.

Born April 21, 1921, in Dorchester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Walker) Davis.

Mrs. Nudd worked for more than 20 years as a registered nurse at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, retiring to private duty nursing in 1990. She had worked at the former Portsmouth Naval Hospital during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

She was a 1938 graduate of Braintree (Mass.) High School and a 1941 graduate of the Tewksbury (Mass.) State Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Nudd was the widow of Robert L. Nudd, who died in March 1989.

Family members include her daughter, Sandra Ann Morton and her husband, Brian, of New Westminster, British Columbia; two sons, Robert Lewis Nudd Jr. and his wife, Sheila, of Hampton, and David Paul Nudd and his wife, Diana, of Kingston; two grandchildren, Kelley and Jessie Nudd of Kingston; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend and willing accomplice, June Perkins of Hampton.

Paul M. Nicoloff

DURHAM - Paul McInerney Nicoloff, 44, died Friday, July 23, 1999, in Berkeley, Calif., following a long period of depressive illness.

Born Nov. 17, 1954, in Durham, he was the son of Marguerite M. and Philip L. Nicoloff. He was a graduate of Oyster River HIgh School, attended the University of New Hampshire, and was a graduate of Boston University.

He is known to many through his work as a cartoonist.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a son, Ryan Hagen, and Ryan's mother, Cherie Hagen, of Methuen, Mass.; five sisters, Lee Nicoloff of Portland, Elizabeth Baum of San Francisco, Ann Becker of Westwood, Mass., Martha Nicoloff of St. Paul, Minn., and Emily Horning of McLean, Va.; and a niece and many nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at St. Thomas More Church in Durham, with the Rev. Daniel St. Laurent as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Martin J. Lyons

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Martin J. Lyons, 96, of 346 Pleasant St., were held Tuesday, July 20, 1999. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by the Rev. Agapit Jean at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The funeral pall was placed on the casket by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Maureen Lyons, and his daughter, Teresa Marie Koontz. Jean Goss was organist. Thomas Ahearn was soloist. Readings were given by his great-granddaughter Clara Lyons and granddaughters Bridget and Kara Lyons. The Eucharistic gifts were presented by granddaughters Megan Lyons and Lelia Lambert; and nieces Maureen Daly and Sarah Kurpiel. A poem was read by granddaughter Mary Lyons. Eulogies were delivered by close friend Frank Provost and grandson John Lyons Jr. Military honors were rendered by Ron Dawson BM3 on the Bos'n pipe.

Burial was in the family lot in Calvary Cemetery with Father Jean and Jason Jalbert conducting the committal. Pallbearers were James Castner, James Quirk, Russ Case, and grandsons John Lyons III, John Lambert and David Koontz.

Angelo L. Loaiza

PORTSMOUTH - Angelo L. "Tito" Loaiza, 49, of 2 Princeton St., died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born July 29, 1949, in New York, he was the son of Willie Loaiza of Surprise, Ariz., and Evelyn (Ortiz) McMorrill of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the Army.

He was formerly employed at Sprague Energy in Newington.

He was the husband of Linda (Dixon) Loaiza for 10 years.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include six daughters, Yvonne Loaiza of New York, Angelique Wesner of Rochester, Monique Loaiza of Pennsylvania, Meca Loaiza of Rochester, Tasha Loaiza of Rochester, and Senita Loaiza of Pennsylvania; a grandson, Steven Wesner of Rochester; and a sister, Janet Johnson of Florida.

Pauline E. Moran

KITTERY - Pauline E. Moran, 68, of 20 Whippoorwill Lane, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at York Hospital following a long period of illness.

Born Feb. 17, 1931, in Waltham, Mass., she was the daughter of Daniel A. and Pauline (Newcomb) Healy. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Waltham and received a bachelor's degree in 1952 from Regis College in Weston, Mass. Since 1935, she spent her summers in Kittery, eventually moving there from Waltham in 1982.

A schoolteacher for 29 years, she was a handwriting specialist and traveled to schools throughout New England.

She was a communicant of St. Christopher by the Sea Church in York.

Devoted to her grandchildren, she was also a member of the Downeast Westerners Square Dance Club and a volunteer for Kittery Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed traveling and her weekly golf games at Bramber Valley Golf Course in Greenland.

She was the wife of Charles M. Moran for 46 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Charles M. Moran Jr. of Wellesley, Mass., and Kittery, and Christopher M. Moran of Winchester, Mass.; a daughter, Annemarie Formalarie of Hudson, N.H.; and nine grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Healy.

Alida deRouville Bragdon

BRAGDON - Alida deRouville Bragdon, of York Harbor, died July 24, 1999, in York Harbor. Funeral at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First Parish Congregational Church, York Street, York. Interment in the First Parish Cemetery. Visiting hours from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Family requests that memorial donations may be made to the VFW Boardman-Ellis Post No. 6977, PO Box 201, York Beach, ME 03910.

Flora L. Curran

PORTSMOUTH - Flora L. Curran, 96, of 936 South St., died Monday, July 26, 1999, at her home.

Born Sept. 21, 1902, in Methuen, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Blanche (Carroll) Bowlen. She lived in Augusta, Maine, before moving to Portsmouth five years ago.

For more than 30 years, she worked for the state of Maine Department of Health & Welfare in the Office of Vital Statistics.

She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and was a member of the Maine State retired employees association.

She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Curran.

Survivors include the Rev. Edward C. Bowlen Jr. of Porterville, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

William H. Caffrey

YORK - William H. Caffrey, 55, of One Hawthorne Lane, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a courageous 1^4-year battle with bone marrow cancer.

Born in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Raymond F. and Ruth D. (Scanlon) Caffrey. He was a 1962 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence.

He served a three-year tour of duty aboard ship in the Navy before becoming a reporter-photographer for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune.

He next served as director of public relations at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lowell, Mass., then as director of public relations at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Mass.

In 1984, he joined Bay State Gas Co. as community relations manager in Lawrence. In 1988, he was transferred to Portsmouth to serve as community and government relations manager at Northern Utilities Natural Gas.

He was a communicant of St. Christopher by the Sea Church of York. He was active in the community, serving as chairman of the school board at St. Augustine's Parish as well as a member of its administration commission and bingo committee.

He also served as chairman of the Lawrence zoning board of appeals and was active in other organizations, including the United Way and the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club.

He was the husband of Cathleen M. (Barrett) Caffrey of York.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Susan P. (Cyr) Miller and her husband, Russell H. Miller, of Braintree, Mass., Sara E. (Cyr) Alai and her husband, Peter J. Alai, of Mount Arlington, N.J., and Meaghan C. Caffrey of York; three grandchildren, Joshua and Timothy Miller, and Emma Alai; two brothers, Thomas F. Caffrey and his wife, Eleanor, of Lawrence, Mass., and Raymond F. Caffrey and his wife, Pauline, of Garland, Texas; a sister, Georgia R. Caffrey of Moody, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

Nicholas Mangos

PORTSMOUTH - Nicholas Mangos, 70, of Portsmouth, formerly of Lynn, Mass., died Monday, July 26, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Christos and Cleoniki (Niketas) Mangos. He lived in Lynn, returned to Greece, where he was educated, and then returned to Lynn in 1947. He resided there until moving to Salisbury, Mass., and in 1985, he moved to Portsmouth.

He and his wife were the owners and operators of the Paragone Restaurant in Salisbury for several years.

He was a former member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

He was the husband of Lillian (Kardasis) Mangos for 50 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Claire Mangos of Portsmouth; four brothers, Peter Mangos of Florida, Charles Mangos of Lynn, Harry Mangos of Lynn, and Angelo Mangos of Swampscott, Mass.; three grandchildren, Vanessa, Carissa and Alex Mangos; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Christy Mangos; and a sister, Mary Mariano.

Marion P. Madsen

PORTSMOUTH - Marion P. (Lloyd) Madsen, of 4 Simonds Road, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999.

Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Mary (Murray) and Robert W. Lloyd. She attended Mount St. Joseph Academy and Kathleen Dell Secretarial School. For many years, she worked as a secretary at station WNAC in Boston and later as a secretary to the late Judge Samuel Levy in Portsmouth.

She was an active member of the Retired Officers Wives Club, Rye Over 55 Club, St. James Couples Club, and was active in the Outreach Program at St. Theresa Church. For many years, she was an active volunteer with the Family Services Program at Pease Air Force Base.

She was the wife of Maj. Earl H. Madsen, retired, for 46 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include four children, Donna Caswell of Dover, Michael Madsen and his wife, Christine, of Methuen, Mass., Brian Madsen of Durham, and Douglas Madsen and his wife, Valerie, of Lee; five grandchildren, Sarah Caswell, Lindsay Madsen, and Kevin, Brendan and Ryan Madsen; a sister, Eunice Bliss and her husband, Fred, of Needham, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Michael John Simonelli

BEVERLY, Mass. - Michael John "Chick" Simonelli, 37, died suddenly Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Beverly Hospital, Beverly.

Born April 3, 1962, in Malden, Mass., he was the son of Michael L. and Mary T. (Cali) Simonelli. He was a graduate of Malden Catholic and received an associate's degree from Bunker Hill Community College. A longtime resident of Melrose, he lived in Beverly for two years.

He worked as a cook for the Cedar Glen Nursing Home and Stromberg's Restaurant in Salem. Prior to that, he worked for a long time at the Fleet Center.

In 1990, his father donated a kidney to him.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Bill Franklin of Danvers, Mass.; a niece, Alicia M. Franklin of Danvers; a nephew, Andrew E. Franklin of Danvers; an aunt, the Honorable Jacqueline Pitts of Portsmouth; an uncle, Arthur Simonelli of Lawrence, Mass; a grandmother, Catherine Simonelli of Lawrence; and many cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by two grandfathers, Michael Simonelli and Salvatore Cali; and a grandmother, Mildred Cali.

John A. Littlefield Sr.

MULBERRY, Fla. - John A. Littlefield Sr., formerly of Seabrook, N.H., died Monday, July 26, 1999.

Born Oct. 3, 1950, he was a 1970 graduate of Winnacunnet High School and a 1979 graduate of McLennan Community College.

He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1970-74.

He was the husband of Denise Littlefield.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Christine M. Littlefield of Laconia, N.H.; two sons, John A. Littlefield Jr. of Laconia and Jason A. Littlefield of Mulberry, Fla.; two sisters, Martha L. Settles, his twin, and Annie M. Haughton, both of Seabrook; five grandchildren; an uncle, Percy R. Stanley of Seabrook; two nieces; a nephew; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Flossie M. (Stanley) Littlefield; a brother, Alfred C. Kelly; and a granddaughter, Amelia J. Boucher.

Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
