Joseph T. Witkowski

RYE - Joseph T. Witkowski, 69, of 120 Lafayette Road, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 at his residence.

Born March 2, 1930, in Hamtramack, Mich., he was the son of the late Joseph and Madeline Witkowski.

He was raised in Pennsylvania and attended school there. After moving to Charlestown, Mass., he enlisted in the Navy, where he served during World War II.

He worked as a pipe fitter for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 15 years and lived in Rye since 1981. He came from Wolfeboro, N.H., where he had lived since 1960.

Mr. Witkowski was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson, and hunting.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Witkowski of Haverhill, Mass., and Michael Witkowski, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Laura Bradshaw and Judith Witkowski, both of Quincy, Mass; and eight grandchildren.

Madeline Tucker

TUCKER - Madeline A. Tucker, 82, of Hanscom Road, Eliot, died July 25, 1999. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday from the St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 60 Government St., Kittery. If desired, donations may be made in her memory to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 60 Government St., Kittery, ME 03901.

June S. Blake

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Miss June S. Blake, 70, of 225 McKinley Road, were held on Tuesday from Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, with services at St. John's Episcopal Church, Portsmouth. The Rev. Timothy Rich, rector, officiated. Assisting clergy included the Rev. Trace Browning, assistant rector, and the Rev. Gordon Allen, rector emeritus. Dianne Colby Dean was organist.

In attendance were members of the church, including members of the Altar Guild. Also in attendance were representatives from Seacoast Hospice.

Burial was in St. John's Memorial Walkway with committal services by the Rev. Rich, the Rev. Browning and the Rev. Allen.

Sandra J. Jordan

DELTONA, Fla. - Sandra Jean Jordan, 52, of 521 Ely Court, Deltona, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at her residence.

Born Aug. 2, 1947, in Bath, Maine, she was the daughter of Donald P. and Gloria M. Severance of Kittery. She was a 1965 graduate of Winnacunnet High School. She lived in Deltona since 1987.

She was a homemaker and a talented artist.

She was the wife of Merrill Jordan Jr. for 33 years.

In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include two sons, Michael D. Jordan of Oviedo, Fla., and Marc H. Jordan of Orlando; a daughter, Christina L. Collier; a brother, Larry Severance of Rye; a sister, Annette C. Dunlop of Port Richey, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Volusia Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32119, or the charity of one's choice.

George R. Dawson Jr.

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - George Richard Dawson Jr., 76, died Sept. 20, 1999, at Venice Hospital after a long period of illness.

He was a 1941 graduate from Portsmouth High School, and enlisted in the Navy. George served in World War II as a Bosun's Mate aboard the USS Turner (DD-648), a destroyer-class battleship that escorted convoys across the Atlantic.

In 1944, George survived an explosion at anchor, which sank the Turner in N.Y. Harbor.

George worked in the television news industry as a broadcast engineer at WFSB-TV Channel 3 (formerly WTIC-TV) in Hartford, Conn., form which he retired in 1988 after 33 years.

After retirement, George relocated to Englewood, where he lived on a golf course. An avid golfer, George's proudest moment came when he scored a hole-in-one at Oyster Creek.

George's other passion was photography. He studied under Ansel Adams and John Sexton. George's silver prints have been displayed at various art events. His favorite subject was winter in New England, although his collections contain pictures from all over the world.

He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 2378 in Englewood.

He was the husband of Dawn (Marceau) for 54 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen and wife, Coleen, of Tennessee; a daughter, Joan Symolon and her husband, Michael, of Connecticut; Nancy Sisti of Santa Monica, Calif; and four grandchildren.

Frances E. Verdi

HAMPTON - The funeral for Frances E. Verdi, 77, of 562 Winnacunnet Road, was held Tuesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Daniel Sinibaldi, associate pastor, was the celebrant. Nelson K. Ward was organist and Patrice Chaisson was soloist. The readings were offered by Sister Theresa Malouin, C.S.C. and Sister Doris Ouellette, C.S.C., who also offered the eulogy. The gifts were presented to the altar by Eileen Tucker. Acolytes were Paul Sullivan, Edward Schreier and Robert Grissemeer. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery with the Rite of Committal conducted by the Rev. Sinibaldi.

Philip Nudd

SYOSSET, N.Y. - Philip Nudd, 91, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, in Syosset, N.Y. after a brief period of illness.

Born June 20, 1908, in Hampton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Perkins) Nudd. He was raised on Boars Head in Hampton.

He attended Hampton Academy and studied engineering at the University of New Hampshire, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1930 and his master's in 1933. He also attended Massachusetts Iinstitute of Technology.

Most of his career was spent as a professor at the Cooper Union in New York City.

He was the husband of the late Hazel (Provost) Nudd, who died in 1975.

Survivors include a son, Philip B. Nudd of Bedford Hills, N.Y.; a daughter, Nancy Bredemeier, of Atwater, Ohio; a sister, Madeline Nudd, of Bradford, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by a brother, Everett Nudd; and two sisters, Ethel Hazelton and Marion Lorenten.

Roland L. McCann

PORTSMOUTH - Roland L. McCann, 53, of 175 Middle Road, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at the Boston Medical Center in Boston, after a brief period of illness.

Born July 3, 1946, in Boston, he was the son of the late Francis and Ethel (Mills) McCann and grew up in Lancaster, Mass. He was a graduate of Cushing Academy Class of 1964 in Ashburnham, Mass. He went on to graduate from Boston College with the Class of 1968.

A resident of Portsmouth for the past 22 years, he was employed as a Manufacturers Sales Representative for the Emerson-Swan Company of Randolph, Mass. for more than 10 years.

Roland was a loving husband and devoted father who enjoyed golfing, skiing, music and cruising in his Cadillac. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

He was the husband of Susan (Foley) McCann for 31 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jay Roland McCann and his wife, Kristie (Cello) McCann, of Bloomfield, Conn.; a daughter, Kristin Elizabeth McCann, of Portsmouth; a nephew, H. Edward McCann, of Kennebunk.

He was predeceased by a sister, Grace (McCann) Mayo.

Rebecca Littlefield

LEE - Rebecca "Becky" Littlefield, 47, of Woodhead Circle, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at her home.

Born July 27, 1952, in Exeter, she was the daughter of Carolyn (Barraclough) Storer and the late William A. Storer. She resided in Durham before moving to Lee 10 years ago. She graduated from Oyster River High School in 1970 and from the University of Rhode Island in 1974.

For the past six years, she has been employed with Rockingham County Head Start.

She was secretary for the New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition and was an active member in the Seacoast Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.

She was also active in Americans Caring, Teaching & Sharing with a Mission in Honduras.

She was a member of Community Church of Durham.

She loved spending time with her family, friends, camping and in her flower gardens.

She was the wife of David A. Littlefield for 22 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her mother, Carolyn Storer of Lee; two sons, Jacob Littlefield of Lee and Leonard Littlefield of Portsmouth; a sister, Cynthia Storer of California; a brother, Barry Storer and his wife, Polly Newcomb, of Seattle, Wash., a sister-in-law, Joyce Boyle and her husband, Brian, of South Berwick; and nieces and nephews.

Frederick U. Fogarty

DOVER - Frederick Urban Fogarty, 70, of 10 Middle Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born Jan.16, 1929, in Dover, he was the son of the late Martin and Mary (Lund) Fogarty and lived there his whole life.

He was a graduate of the Dover schools.

He served on the Dover police force for eight years, and before his retirement, he was a sergeant at the Strafford County Corrections Department for 20 years.

He also owned the Fred Fogarty Roofing & Siding Co.

He was a Golden Glove Boxer and a former member of the Dover Knights of Columbus.

He was the husband of Louise M. (Bilodeau) Fogarty for 51 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Mark U. Fogarty of Ballstrom, N.H.; Michael U. Carl Fogarty of Barrington; Frederick U. Fogarty Jr. of Barrington; Shawn U. Fogarty and his wife, Cheryl, of Dover; and Kevin U. Fogarty and his wife, Nancy, of Barrington; six grandsons; six granddaughters; a brother, Martin Fogarty; three sisters, Martha Griffin, Bernadette Goss and Mary Dodge, all of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

George R. Dawson Jr.

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - George Richard Dawson Jr., 76, formerly of Portsmouth, died at Venice Hospital on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, after a long period of illness.

He was born and raised in Portsmouth, and graduated from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1941.

He served with the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Turner, a destroyer class battleship that escorted convoys across the Atlantic.

He worked as a broadcast engineer at WFSB-TV Channel 3, formerly WTIC-TV, for 33 years. He retired in 1988.

After retirement he relocated to Englewood, where he lived on a golf course.

His hobbies included golfing and still photography.

His silver prints were displayed at various arts events.

He was a member of Elk's Lodge No. 2378 in Englewood.

He was the husband of Dawn (Marceau) Dawson for 54 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen, and his wife, Coleen, of Tennessee; two daughters, Joan Symolon and her husband, Michael, of Farmington, Conn., and Nancy Sisti of Santa Monica, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

James A. Hawkes

SARASOTA, Fla. - James A. Hawkes, 53, formerly of Newburyport, Mass., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999.

Born Feb. 28, 1946, he was the son of Harold "Jack" Hawkes and the late Barbara Hawkes, who owned Hawkes & Sons Marina on Merrimac Street in Newburyport.

He moved to Sarasota in 1984.

In addition to his father of Seabrook, N.H., he is survived by a daughter, Joyce E. Hawkes; and a son, Anthony A. Hawkes, both of Amesbury, Mass.; three brothers, Harold W. Hawkes of Alexandria, Va., Edward A. Hawkes of Seabrook, and Kenneth L. Hawkes of Chandler, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
