Eunice A. Whitney

ELIOT - Eunice A. Whitney, 76, of 52 Bolt Hill Road, died Sept. 27, 1999 at Maine General Hospital, Augusta, Maine.

Born May 7, 1923 in Eliot, she was the daughter of Harold and Lillian (Dixon) Richardson and attended local schools. She was a graduate of Eliot High School. She was married on Dec. 7, 1947.

She was a member of the Eliot Garden Club, the Hope Club and the Eliot United Methodist Church. She participated in line-dancing at the South Berwick Seniors Center and was a Scout leader for both the Cub and Girl Scouts.

She was the wife of the late James H. Whitney.

She is survived by a son, Alan Whitney, of Kittery, Maine; two daughters, Judith Buckingham of Rochester, N.H., and Ginger Quinlivan of Monmouth, Maine; two brothers, Gerald Richardson of Hampton, N.J., and Elmer Richardson of Eliot; two sisters, Ethel Brake of South Carolina, and Evelyn Rowan of Redondo, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Jeffery Whitney, Marek and Desiree Quinlan.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Ernest Richardson.

George T. Gray

LEE - George Thomas Gray died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1914, in New York City, the son of Alfred and Hilda (Pedder) Gray, and grew up in Old Greenwich, Conn.

He attended the Julliard School of Music and Columbia University Teachers College. During World War II he served as an officer in the U.S. Army in Europe.

He began his professional career as a stringed-instrument teacher in the Greenwich public schools. He then became supervisor of music for the entire school system. He was also a member of the Greenwich Philharmonia board of directors for many years. In his capacity as music supervisor, he initiated the Youth Concert Series, which provided compulsory, free symphony concerts for every student in the Greenwich school system. He also privately taught violin and viola to many children.

He and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed traveling, and his other interests included repairing stringed instruments, refinishing furniture, working in his garden, fishing, cooking, entertaining and working around his Rhode Island homes.

He moved to Lee in 1994 to live with his step-granddaughter, Linda Schier, and her family, John, Katie, AJ and Maggie.

Survivors include a sister, Adele Krause of Old Greenwich, Conn.; two stepchildren, Gretchen Dykema Belknap of Durham, N.H., and Scot Dykema of Old Lyme, Conn.; eight step-grandchildren, Peter Belknap, Linda Belknap Schier, Sara Belknap Gordon, Russell Dykema, Karen Dykema Parson, Jonathan Dykema, Mary Dykema Nichisti; 11 step great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Knapp Gray, and his brother, Norman.

Dr. Edward G. Charron

EXETER - Dr. Edward G. Charron, 76, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at the Exeter Hospital.

Born June 21, 1923, in Plainfield, Conn., he was the son of the late Ovila G. and Aldea (LaBarre) Charron. He lived in New Hampshire for 25 years.

At age 16 he was the New England gymnastics champion. He excelled at several sports, including boxing.

He joined The Ericsons, a world-famous hand-balancing group, and toured the country with the Siebrand Circus.

During World War II, he served in the Army rehabilitating soldiers.

In 1949, he graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic. He had a practice in Nova Scotia, and then practiced at the LaBarre Chiropractic Clinic in Hampton until his retirement in 1994.

He was an avid music fan. He taught drums and played with several jazz groups. He also enjoyed constructing hi-fi recording sets, making exquisite rustic furniture, collecting guns, and dog training and exhibiting.

Survivors include his longtime friend, Gilles St. George of Danielson, Conn.; and several cousins, including Dr. Wilfred J. LaBarre of Epping, Leone LaBarre of Seabrook, Laura Melisi of Somersworth, Gregory LaBarre of Portsmouth, Doris Callus and Elaine and Arthur Gaucher all of Connecticut.

Rhoda A. Brown

SEABROOK - Rhoda A. Brown, 85, of 63 Washington St., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at the Exeter Hospital.

She was born in Newburyport, Mass. on Sept. 30, 1913, the daughter of the late Fred and Mamie (Dow) Raddin.

Mrs. Brown worked as a shoe worker in the Amesbury and Seabrook area.

She was a member of Trinity United Church, Orient Chapter No. 22 O.E.S. of Exeter, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Unit 70, the former Goodwill Grange, Hampton Falls Grange No. 171 and the Winnacummet Rebecca Lodge.

Survivors include two nieces, Andrea Condon of South Hampton, N.H., and Lucretia Emery of Plantation, Fla.; a nephew, John H. Puglia of Hampton; several great-nieces and great-nephews; two special friends, Mary Bergeron and Sarah Eaton, and their families, of Seabrook.

Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her husband, Harry C. Brown, and her two sisters, Ruth Collins and Lena Locke.

Paraskevoula Karagianis

HAMPTON - Paraskevoula "Paras" Karagianis, 68, of 445 Ocean Blvd., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at her home.

Born Aug. 25, 1931, in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Christos and Alexandra (Sapounas) Karagianis. She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.

Paras was a communicant of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth and was a member of the Navy League.

Survivors include her uncle, George Sapounas, of Manchester; a cousin, Elli Katsiantonis of Manchester; many nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Adeline Lavigne of Hampton.

B>Robert F. Dudley, Jr.

RYE BEACH - Robert F. Dudley Jr., 70, of Rye Beach and Naples, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, after a period of failing health.

Born on Aug. 25, 1929, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Mary (Guillmette) Dudley of Portsmouth and the late Robert F. Dudley.

He was raised in Lowell, Mass. and attended Lowell High School. He married in 1951. With his wife and two children, he lived in Chelmsford, Mass. until retiring to Rye Beach and Naples in 1988.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy. He later worked for 35 years with New England Telephone Company.

He was the husband of the late Gloria (Higgins) Dudley.

He is survived by two children, Joye Demarais of Rye Beach and Robert F. Dudley, III; a daughter-in-law, Susanne (Barrett) Dudley; and three grandchildren, Robert, Alexandra and Joseph Dudley, all of Canton, Mass.

Robert B. McIntire

YORK - Robert B. McIntire, 54, of 54 Ridge Road, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999 at his residence.

A 1963 graduate of York High School and a 1981 graduate of Hawthorne College, he received his bachelor's degree in science. He served in the Navy Reserves Seabees from 1964 to 1966 and completed two tours of duty with the Navy in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. After 21 years of service, he retired from the Naval Reserves in 1988.

Mr. McIntire began his career in the hospitality industry in 1966, working for Hotel Sonesta, Logan Airport, Valle's Steakhouse and the Stage Neck Inn. He later worked from 1976 to 1982 for the Bailey Corp of Seabrook and was a shipfitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from 1982 until his 1993 retirement.

From 1994 to 1996, he was the fund-raising facilitator for the Seacoast Shipyard Association. He later became the executive director of Maine Partners of the Americas and worked for Davidson Peterson Research Company of York and most recently for CCS Companies of Portsmouth.

For five years, Mr. McIntire was chairman and a member of the York Board of Selectmen. He also served on the Economic Development Subcommittee, the Resident Parking Subcommittee, the Seacoast Recycling Education Council, the Transfer Station Subcommittee and the Kittery, Eliot, York - Against Local Landfills (KEY-ALL) Steering Committee. He was also serving on York's 350th Anniversary Parade Committee.

Mr. McIntire served on the executive committee of the Seacoast Shipyard Association and was chairman of the USS Maine commissioning committee. He was a member of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Task Force and a member of the board of directors of the Shipyard Employees Association. He was Washington, D.C. representative for the National Association of Naval Shipyards. In 1996, he ran as a candidate for representative to the Maine Legislature.

He was a 17-year volunteer member and trustee of the York Village Fire Department. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the VFW and was first vice commander of American Legion Post No. 56 of York. He was a member of the Twin State Cruisers Auto Club and was recently an applicant for the Loyal Order of Moose of Dover, N.H.

He was the husband of Carole J. (Hodgin) McIntire of York.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a stepson, William R. "Rick" South of York; a twin sister, Caryl L. McIntire of South Paris, Maine; a mother-in-law, Anne M. Hodgin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn I. McIntire, who died in 1994.

P. Richard Hoyne

PORTSMOUTH - P. Richard Hoyne, 56, of 12 Simonds Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 3, 1943, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Philip and Margaret (Regan) Hoyne. He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School in the Class of 1961.

A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, he was the owner of Lacava Snappy Lobster Co. for many years and was a communicant of St. James Church. Mr. Hoyne enjoyed fishing, sailing, skiing and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Dan Hoyne and his wife, Sheila, of Portsmouth and two grandchildren, Kelsie and Katelyn Hoyne of Portsmouth.

George S. Goodwin

PORTSMOUTH - George S. Goodwin, 76, of 107 Ledgewood Drive, died Friday, Dec. 3, 199 at his home.

Born June 19, 1923, in Rye, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Grace B. (Rumford) Goodwin.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

A former employee of Rand-Pickering Express and Marshall Transportation, he made many trips with Portsmouth High School and University of New Hampshire students on their activities. Before his 1990 retirement, Mr. Goodwin was employed by the City of Portsmouth at the water treatment plant, retiring as an operator.

Mr. Goodwin was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 633 in Manchester, N.H. and AFSCME Local No. 1380. He was also a member of Moose No. 444 in Portsmouth.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph "Percy" Goodwin of Portsmouth and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Arlene (Caswell) Goodwin, his first wife, Ethel (Clark) Goodwin and a son, Stephen Goodwin.

Robert J. Doherty Sr.

ROCHESTER - Robert J. Doherty Sr., 64, of 7 Hillside Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Feb. 8, 1935, in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret (McGonagle) Doherty. A graduate of Cheverus High School and Portland Junior College, he was a self-employed manufacturer's representative. Among the places he served in the U.S. Army were Fort Chaffee, Ark.; Ft. Dix, N.J.; and Cape Elizabeth, Maine for five years. Mr. Doherty had resided in Rochester for the past 25 years, having previously lived in South Portland, Maine. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

He was the husband of Ellen Louise (Coyne) Doherty of Rochester for 39 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Susan Doherty and her husband, Nate Cross, of Santa Fe, N.M., Linda Doherty of Rochester; a brother, James Doherty of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert J. Doherty Jr., who died in 1988.

Janet E. Hobbs

ST. CHARLES, Ill. - Janet Elaine Hobbs, 61, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999 at her home.

Born Dec. 5, 1937, in Uniontown, Pa., she was the daughter of Lawrence and Wanda (Gay) McKittrick.

She was a stewardess for United Airlines, where she met her husband. She left the airline to care for her family and began volunteering at Wildrose and Davis Schools. She was later employed by St. Charles High School in the guidance office, retiring in 1989. A member of the St. Charles United Church of Christ and Charlemagne-on-the-Fox Questers Chapter 478, she loved reading and was a collector of Heisey glassware.

She was the wife of Ken Hobbs for 37 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Lianne Gough of St. Charles, Jennifer and her husband, Jim Mayer, of Sycamore, Ill. and Paul Hobbs Jr. of St. Charles; two brothers, James McKittrick and his wife, Twila, of Aliquippa, Pa., and Larry McKittrick of New Jersey; a half-brother, Robert McKittrick and his wife, Loretta, of Williamsport, Pa.; and one sister, Sally and her husband, Wayne Blanchette of Las Vegas, Nev.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Angelina W. Kennedy

RYE - Angelina W. Kennedy, 84, of 1 Central Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999 at her home after a brave six-month battle with cancer.

Born May 12, 1915, in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of the late John and Karolina (Wresila) Pitula. She was raised and attended schools in Manchester.

Before moving to Hampton, she lived in Andover, Mass. from 1955 to 1975. She had lived in Rye since 1994.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa Church and her family, especially her grandchildren, were an important part of her life.

For 30 years, she was the wife of John E. Kennedy, who died in 1972. She was also predeceased by a brother, Adam Pitula, and a sister, Pauline Connolly.

Survivors include a son, Frank P. Kennedy and his wife, Kathleen, of Rye; a daughter, Karolyn K. Pescosolido and her husband, Tony, of Rye; six grandchildren, Kate, John and Meg Kennedy, Nick Angie and Betsy Pescosolido; two sisters, Hedwige Murphy of Manchester and Mary Pitula of Boston; and several nieces and nephews.
