Dale R. Stein

HAMPTON - A memorial service was held for Dale R. Stein, 56, of Church Street, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999 at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. In attendance were members and the board of directors of Operation Blessing, including Rick and Rachel Sparkowich and Jack and Phyllis Copeland. Pastor Art Torella, of Operation Blessing in POrtsmouth, officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

He died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999 at his home after a brief period of illness.

Born July 3, 1943, in Peoria, Ill., he was the son of the late James and Elsie Stein.

He had resided in Hampton for the past 12 years and was formerly of Newburyport, Mass. and Peoria.

He worked as a prep laborer employed by Tek Coating in Amesbury, Mass. for the past three years.

He was the husband of Barbara (Gwinn) Stein of Hampton for 29 years.

In addition to his wife, He is survived by three sons, Dale R. Stein Jr. of Newmarket, Kevin Stein of Hampton, and Christopher Stein of Hampton; two daughters, Tameson Stein of Exeter, and Bethany Stein of Seabrook; a grandson, Pat Stein of Newmarket; five brothers, John Stein, Thomas Stein and Daniel Stein, all of Peoria, James Stein of Germany and Nicholas Stein of Tennessee; two sisters, Sally Joyner of Colorado and Patricia Prozzo of Peoria; and many nieces and nephews.

Avon E. Lancaster

EXETER - Avon E. Lancaster, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Exeter Healthcare.

Born May 25, 1912, in Limestone, Maine, she was a 40-year resident of Veazie, Maine. She resided in Bangor, Maine, for the last 20 years.

She was a member of the Veazie Senior Citizens group and was also a member of the Veazie Congregational Church. She was employed for many years at Lancaster's Market in Veazie.

She was the wife of the late Leonard L. Lancaster.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Pamela Bakie) McDill of Exeter, and Deborah L. Roy of Henderson, Nev.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Richard (Elizabeth) McFadden of Epping, Mrs. Jeffrey (Deborah) Reed of Nahant, Mass., Peter G. Bakie of Kingston, Christopher L. Roy of Old Town, Maine, and Mrs. Loren (Hilary) Guidry of Henderson; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Freida G. O'Connor

NORTH HAMPTON - The funeral for Freida G. O'Connor, 67, of 36 Lovering Road, was held Monday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton. The Rev. Carroll Moore, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Hampton, officiated. Burial followed in the Center Cemetery with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Moore. Pallbearers were Don Beairstow, Steve Greene, Ray Trueman, Kenneth Grant, Pete Blaisdell and Ryan O'Connor. The U.S. flag that covered the casket was presented to her husband, Wendell B. O'Connor.

Dorothy H. Cummings

HAMPTON - The funeral for Dorothy H. Cummings, 93, formerly of Ancient Highway, was held Monday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home. Services were conducted in the High Street Cemetery. The Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiated.

Jennie L. Shaw

NORTH HAMPTON - The funeral for Jennie L. Shaw, 88, of 249 Atlantic Ave., was held Monday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton. The Rev. Mike Mulberry, pastor of the United Church of Christ, officiated. Jean Goss was organist. Burial followed in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, Mass., with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Mulberry.

Bernice H. Desilets

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice H. (Blake) Desilets, 83, of 346 Pleasant St. and formerly of Clinton Street, were held Monday at the Buckminster Chapel, with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Portsmouth. Monsignor Lawrence Burns officiated. Acolyte was Edward Shea. Maureen Sceehan was organist and Clara Cembalisty was vocalist.

In attendance were members of the church, including members of the St. Catherine of Siena Church Women's Club.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by Monsignor Burns.

Wake services were held Sunday afternoon at Buckminster Chapel by Monsignor Burns.

Harriet I. Unger

RYE - Harriet I. (Nelson) Unger, 86, widow of William Unger, of 18 Drake Lane and formerly of Kenosha, Wis., died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth.

Born Aug. 13, 1913, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Hedwig (Olin) Nelson, and attended Chicago schools.

She was a volunteer at the Kenosha Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years, a member of the PEO, an active participant with the Kenosha Homemakers as well as of the Kenosha Women's Club. She had been a member of the Rye Over 55 Club.

She is survived by two sons, Robert F. Unger and his wife, Jackie, of Rye, and William C. Unger and his wife, Pauline, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Emily and Hannah Unger, both of Rye, and Peter and Dawn Foster, both of Cedar Rapids; a great-grandchild, Ashley Foster of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Annette R. Johnston

HAMPTON - Annette R. Johnston, 90, of 13 Elliott St., died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born May 7, 1909, in East Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ida (Badaracco) DeGruttola. She first settled in Hampton in 1972 and also resided in Michigan and Nevada before her retirement in 1985.

She volunteered as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross in military hospitals in Japan while she resided there with her husband during the occupation period of the late 1940s. She was a communicant of St. Theresa Church in Rye Beach.

She was the last surviving member of nine children.

She was the wife of Ralph S. Johnston for 58 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Ralph S. Johnston Jr. and his wife, Marcelle, of Winchester, Mass.; three daughters, Diane Vince and her husband, Paul, of Potomac, Md.,Donna Schmeeckle and her husband, Jon, of San Mateo, Calif., and Karen Taylor and her fiance, Joseph McBride, of San Rafael, Calif.; five grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty DeGruttola of Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews.

Sarah K. Gagnon

CUMMING, Ga. - Sarah Knowles Gagnon, 78, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999.

She was a former resident of Winter Haven, Fla. and Kittery. She was also a member of the Red Cross Ambulance Corp. in World War II. She was the director of housekeeping at Tri-County Hospital in Kittery and dietician director at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.

She is survived by three daughters, Raymah Morgridge and her husband, William, of Eliot, Linda Fogg and her husband, Stephen, of Marysville, Wash., and Diane Maxfield and her husband, Ronald, of Dahlonega, Ga.; three granddaughters, Angela L. Morgridge of Eliot, Anita M. Paul of Eliot, and Andrea Maxfield of Atlanta; one grandson, Nathan Maxfield of New York City, and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Morgan Paul of Eliot.

Harriet A. Harris

HAMPTON - The funeral for Harriet Alicia Harris, 87, of 25 Tuttle Ave., was held Wednesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home.

Services were conducted at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor, officiated.

Jean Goss was organist and Patricia Mackensen was soloist.

Readings were offered by Mark Harris and Jennifer Harris Brown and words of remembrance were offered by Alicia and Richard Preston, all grandchildren of the deceased.

Burial was in the High Street Cemetery with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Knowlton.

Pallbearers were Gregory Harris, Peter Harris, Timothy Mack, Chip Brown, Gregory Kneeland and Thomas Higgins.

Margaret Filocamo

HAMPTON - The funeral for Margaret Filocamo, 100, of 24 Fairfield Drive, was held Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest, was the celebrant.

Nelson K. Ward was organist. Acolytes were Paul Sullivan, Rodolphe Begin and George Brown.

The readings were offered by Sister Theresa Malouin C.S.C. and Sister Doris Oullette C.S.C, who also offered the eulogy.

The gifts were presented to the altar by the deceased's granddaughters and words of remembrance were offered by one granddaughter.

Burial was in High Street Cemetery. The committal service was conducted by the Rev. Fr. Griffin.

Pallbearers were Drew Filocamo, Gary Filocamo, Scott Nelson, Michael Casey, Peter Filocamo and Chris Brewer.

Thomas P. Segerson

WILMOT - Thomas P. Segerson, 71, of Old English Hill, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999.

Born April 24, 1928, in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of Christopher and Rose (Selinger) Segerson. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School and was an attorney with General Electric.

He Segerson had resided in Wilmot for the past 12 years, having previously lived in Chagrin Falls, Ohio for 10 years and in Easton, Conn. for 10 years.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Potter Place, N.H..

He was an accomplished woodworker.

He was the husband of Deirdre (Lagen) Segerson for 47 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children, Christine Horrigan of Litchfield, Conn., Timothy Segerson of Roxbury, Conn., Kathleen Segerson of Marlboro, Conn., Moya Joosten of Stratham, N.H., John Segerson of Trumbull, Conn., Deirdre Segerson of Bethel, Conn., Thomas Segerson of Danbury, Conn, Stephen Segerson of Wilton, Conn., and James Segerson of Boston; 14 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Richard W. Bradley

YORK HARBOR - The Rev. Richard W. Bradley, Order of Carmelite, 67, of 18 Starboard Lane, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999 at York Hospital.

Born Feb. 8, 1932, in Boston, he was the son of Raymond F. and Mary (Kerrigan) Bradley. He was a graduate of the Carmelite Seminary in Hamilton, Mass., of the St. Bonaventure College of Niagara, Canada and of the Catholic University of Washington, D.C. He later completed a one-year sabbatical at Cambridge Theological School in Cambridge, Mass.

He had served as a priest for 38 years, retiring in 1996 and moving to York Harbor.

The Rev. Fr. Bradley was a member of the Society of Mount Carmel of Darien, Ill. He had been a rector at the Carmelite Chapel of St. Theresa Church in Paramus, N.J. for 10 years. He had also served parishes in Kentucky, Kansas, Texas and New Jersey.

Survivors include two sisters, Anne Marie Gaziano of York Harbor and Jane Bradley of York; two nieces; and one nephew. Harriet A. Harris
