Elaine M. Driscoll
PORTSMOUTH _ Elaine M. Driscoll, 73, of Echo Ave., died Thursday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home after a long battle with cancer.
Born June 29, 1926, in New York City, she was the daughter of Francis and Dometille (Bernier) Mayo in St. Johnsbury, Vt. In 1944, she graduated fourth in her class from St. Johnsbury Academy and was employed by General Electric for a number of years. After her 1955 marriage, she relocated to Portsmouth and raised seven children.
Known for her natural warmth, quiet strength and compassion, Elaine was most happy helping others. She was a hospice volunteer and provided free literary service to adults and children. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
She was active in the Portsmouth community and was a member of the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club, the N.H. Women's Golf Association, Fairways Bowling League and the POrtsmouth Hospital Guild. Later in her life, she worked as a real estate sales associate for Shanley Real Estate and Tom Fabisak Realty.
Elaine was held in deep affection by her children and was a central figure in the lives of her 18 grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Paul F. Driscoll of Portland, Maine, Mary Driscoll Peyser, Timothy J. Driscoll and Thomas P. Driscoll, all of Portsmouth, Patrick J. Driscoll of Mission Viejo, Calif., Martha D. Kelley of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Meghan J. Hart of Dover, N.H.; four brothers, Frederick Mayo, Bernier Mayo, John Mayo and Michael Mayo; two sisters, Anne Brill and Marceline Nadeau, all of St. Johnsbury. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Mary `Evelyn' Bartlett
KITTERY - Mary "Evelyn" Bartlett, 92, of 8 Lyndon Lane,died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at York Hospital.
Born in St. Albans, Maine, on Jan. 12, 1907, she was the daughter of William and Grace (Ross) Cain. She attended schools there, and graduated from Dexter High School.
She was a life member of The Piscataqua Chapter of the Eastern Star and a member of The Ladies Club of Kittery.
She was the wife of the late Donald L. Bartlett, who died in 1961.
Survivors include one son, Alden Bartlett and his wife, Dorothy, of Essex Junction, Vt.; two daughters, Vella Higgins and her husband, Philip, of West Newfield, Maine, and Lois M. Dixon and her husband, Charles, of Lebanon, Maine; one brother, Lindell Cain of Bangor, Maine; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Norman Cain.
Annette R. Johnston
HAMPTON - The funeral for Annette R. Johnston, 90, wife of Ralph S. Johnston, of 13 Elliott St., was held Saturday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach; the Rev. Maurice Lavigne, pastor, was celebrant. Acolytes were Ralph S. Johnston Jr. and Salvatore DeVincenzo. Judith Kish was organist and pianist, and Mary Louise Arcidi was soloist.
The readings were offered by Don and Lois Garavent and the Prayer of the Faithful was offered by Sonny Pichulo.
Her daughters, Donna Schmeeckle and Karen Taylor, presented the gifts to the altar.
Her son, Ralph S. Johnston Jr., offered words of remembrance.
Pallbearers were Jon Schmeeckle, Ray Pichulo, David Pichulo, Sonny Pichulo, Don Garavent and Jim Garavent.
Cremation followed in the Phoenix Crematory, Hampton.

John F. Sterry
PORTSMOUTH - John Frank Sterry, 92, of 108 Meadow Road, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 28, 1906, in Cambridge, Mass., he was the eldest son of John and Mary (Horgan) Sterry. He attended St. Patrick School and Portsmouth High School.
He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 22 years and the Brooklyn, N.Y., Navy Yard for nine years. He retired in 1975 after 15 years of employment with the city of Brooklyn. He returned to Portsmouth in 1982 to enjoy his retirement years.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
He was the husband of Sarah Jeannette (Randall) Sterry for 74 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Alice Drake of Dover; two daughters, Mary J. Weaver of Shawnee, Kan., and Pauline N. Centrella of Somerville, Mass.; three sons, Arthur F. Sterry of Coral Springs, Fla., Paul Sterry of Buffalo, N.Y., and Frank B. Sterry of Portsmouth; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, William R. Sterry, in 1996, and a brother, Robert Sterry.
William V. Duncan
NORTH HAMPTON - William V. "Bum" Duncan, 66, of 203 Lafayette Road, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at the Seacoast Health Center.
Born July 5, 1933, in Quincy Mass., he was the son of the late Ralph and Ruby (Sollow) Duncan. He resided in North Hampton since 1980, coming from Quincy.
He worked as a plumber for Union Local 12 in Boston for more than 25 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was the husband of Barbara L. (Johnson) Duncan of North Hampton for 47 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, William P. Duncan of San Clemente, Calif., and Wayne R. Duncan of Cape Cod, Mass.; two daughters, Debra R. Marino of Farmington, N.H., and Diane L. Duncan of North Hampton; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret A. Rockwell
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Gray) Rockwell, 60, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, R.I.
Born April 29, 1939, in Portsmouth, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Herbert F. and Elise (Inglis) Gray.
She was a homemaker and a communicant of the St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth, R.I. From 1981 to 1988. She was active in the Portsmouth High School Band Boosters as well as in various bowling leagues.
She was the wife of Kenneth Rockwell of Portsmouth, R.I.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Deborah Rice of Suffolk, Va., Donna Corey of Portsmouth, R.I., and Laurie Rockwell of Middletown, R.I.; a sister, Sandra Maes, of Port Orchard, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Margaret Rockwell
ROCKWELL - Margaret A. "Peggy" Rockwell, 60, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999. Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, N.H. with Monsignor Lawrence Burns, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Church, officiating.

Megan A. DeColfmacker
DOVER - Megan A. DeColfmacker, 19, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999 after a courageous three-year battle with leukemia.
Born March 20, 1980, in Dover, Megan was the beloved daughter of Gary and Deborah DeColfmacker and a loving sister to her brother, Jon DeColfmacker.
Megan was a 1999 graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover and was planning to enter the nursing program at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. She was actively involved in the Youth-to-Youth International, having won the 1998 "Youth Caring For Others" award, along with proclamations from the Rhode Island Senate and House of Representatives. Among other activities, Megan taught CCD at St. Joseph's Parish in Dover, volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a volunteer for the New Hampshire Special Olympics.
Megan was an active member of the Saint Thomas Aquinas High School student body, and thought fondly of all her friends, classmates and community members who were by her side during her illness.
In addition to her parents and brother, Megan is survived by her maternal grandmother, Dolores Keenan of Boynton Beach, Fla.; paternal grandparents, John and Marion DeColfmacker of Dover; uncles and aunts, Robert and Patricia DeColfmacker of Dover, Thomas and Leticia DeColfmacker of Kings Park, N.Y., Lois and Kenneth Keil of Bethpage, N.Y., James Keenan, S.J. of Cambridge, Mass., Sean and Elisa Keenan of Boca Raton, Fla., Jeannine and Robert Kowaleski of Manorville, N.Y. and Michael Dalton of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and many loving cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Francis Keenan; and an uncle, Robert Keenan.

Mary L. Naves
EXETER - Mary L. Naves, 90, a resident of the Eventide Home, former longtime North Hampton resident, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at her residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1909, in North Hampton, she was the daughter of the late Charles Austin and Josephine Anne (Drake) Lamprey.
She graduated from Portsmouth schools and later attended the Normal School of Portsmouth for her teaching certificate. She taught at the Little River School in North Hampton before teaching at the North Hampton Elementary School.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, North Hampton. She was also a member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association and she enjoyed playing bridge.
She was the wife of the late Harry A. Naves, who died in 1969.
She is survived by a son, Alan Naves of Lancaster, N.H.; two grandchildren, Lyn Bieu of Deerfield, and Bret Naves of Northwood; a brother, D. Morris Lamprey of North Hampton; two nephews, Charles Lamprey and David Lamprey of North Hampton; and a niece, Joanne Lamprey, also of North Hampton.
Wallace P. Reed
GARDENA, Calif. - Wallace Pattillo Reed, 79, died Monday, Nov. 12, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 22, 1919, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Ralph M. Sr. and Mary (Pattillo) Reed.
He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1937, the University of New Hampshire in 1941 and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1942, after completing a course in meteorology. He served in the Army during World War II.
He served in Manila, Philippines in 1946 as a government official, connected with the U.S. Weather Bureau at Nickols Field.
He had lived in Alaminos, Pangasinan and Sampaloc, Manila, for 34 years, where he met and married Raymunda N. Medrano, his wife for 46 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Reynoldo N. Reed of Gardena; a daughter, Erlinda N. Reed, also of Gardena; two brothers, Ralph M. Reed Jr. of Edison, N.J. and Emerson K. Reed of Portsmouth; two nieces, Sheila Reed Findlay of Portsmouth, and Anita Reed Mann of Bossier City, La.; and one nephew, Randall P. Reed of Edison, N.J.
Edward A. McMahon
YORK - Edward A. McMahon, 90, of 3 Winterbrook Court, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 at York Hospital.
Born April 6, 1909, in New York City, he was the son of Anthony and Margaret Nagle McMahon. He attended local schools. He enjoyed playing baseball on the All City team in New York and attended college on a baseball scholarship.
He was an auditor for ITEC Corporation before his retirement. He and his wife of 50 years, Mary O'Donnell, lived in Titusville, Fla. for 18 years; in Portsmouth for eight years; and most recently, in York.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John McMahon of York; and a grandson, Edward McMahon of Kittery Point.
