NORTHWOOD - Ethel Gray, 70, of 175 Rochester Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Purdy Memorial Chapel, Rte 4, 2 Concord Road, Lee.

Eleanor Ryan

LYNN, Mass. - Mrs. Eleanor G. (Ryer) Ryan, 80, of Lynn, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Shaughnessey Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Edwin J. Ryan Sr.

She was born in Lynn, the daughter of Walter A. and Myrtle (Cole) Ryer. She was the stepdaughter of Mildred Ryer.

She was raised in Lynn, attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She was a resident of Lynn all of her life.

She was involved in Campfire Girls, Cub Scouts and the Lynn Parent Teachers Association.

She is survived by three sons, Edwin J. Ryan of Peabody, Michael D. Ryan of Berwick, Maine, and William W. Ryan of Lynn; one daughter, Patricia L. Wallis of Bridgewater, Mass.; two brothers, Leonard Ryer of Danvers and Carlton Ryer of Long Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Malcolm Ryer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Solimine, Landergan and Rhodes Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, Route 129, Lynn. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Kenneth Sullivan

YORK, Maine - Kenneth Hayes Sullivan, 50, of Starboard Lane, York Harbor, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at York Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident.

He was born in Boston, Mass., Nov. 18, 1951, a son of Edward D. and Helen (Hynes) Sullivan.

Mr. Sullivan graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1969 with high honors. While in high school, he was on the wrestling team and was an all-state member and captain of the high school golf team.

He received his bachelor’s degree in 1973 and his master of science degree in management engineering in 1974 from Rensselear Poly Technical Institute in Troy, N.Y. He was president of the Sigma Chi fraternity while at Rensselear. He was a Baker Scholar and received a master of business administration from Harvard Business School in 1976.

He began his career as a financial investor as a securities trader with E.F. Hutton in New York City until 1984. He then became a senior vice president banker for the Drexel-Burnham-Lambert Co. in New York City. He also worked as an investment banker for the Republic National Bank.

In 1990, he started his own company, Mercadian Capital Corp., and was the chief executive officer of the Principia Corporation with offices in Jersey City, N.J., and London, England.

In 1998, he and his family moved to York Harbor to fulfill a lifelong dream of building a golf course. He was a partner of the Ledges Golf Course in York and the recently opened Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn. He continued to pursue his interests as a securities investor.

He was on the board of trustees at the Wardlaw Hardridge School, where his children had attended and was very active in the sports program. Mr. Sullivan enjoyed working with children and was an assistant coach for many different sports in Westfield, N.J., where he had resided for 20 years. He was an assistant for the wrestling team at York High School. He loved all outdoor activities and had run in many marathons and Iron Man competitions. He enjoyed playing golf whenever possible.

Mr. Sullivan was a communicant of St. Christopher Church in York. He is survived by his wife whom he married Aug. 31, 1974, Sharon E. (Tyska) Sullivan of York Harbor; three sons, Nolan E. Sullivan, Nicholas T. Sullivan and Kyle H. Sullivan, all of York Harbor; his father, Edward D. Sullivan of Hanover, N.H.; brothers, Gregory Sullivan of Salem, N.H., Theodore Sullivan of Simi Valley, Calif.; sisters, Janet Sullivan of Orleans, Mass., and Rebecca Fawcett of Hanover; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Christopher Church, York.

Interment in First Parish Cemetery, York. There are no visiting hours.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to either the York Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 238, York, ME 03909; York High School, 286 Long Sands Road, York, ME; or to the charity of one’s choice.

Ruth Barr

BARRINGTON - Ruth K. Barr, 77, of Berry Road, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center following a period of failing health.

Born on Dec. 18, 1923 in Dorchester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nora (Horwood) Skinner. Mrs. Barr was a homemaker, she was a member of the Barrington Women’s Club and served for many years in the Frisbie Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, including two years as president.

Members of her family include her husband of 55 years, John F. Barr of Barrington; a daughter, Jill Barr-Laggis of Crested Butte, Co.; a son, David Barr of Somersworth; two grandchildren, Tegan and Indira Barr of Somersworth; and two sisters, Joan Love of Venice, Fla., and Marion Cramer of Quincy, Mass.

Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home at 86 S. Main St., Rochester.

Carolyn Chamberlain

WOLFEBORO - Carolyn (Fogg) Chamberlain, 76, of 140 Governor Wentworth Highway, died on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at the Huggins Hospital after a long illness.

Born on May 6, 1925, in Stoneham, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Ellen (Schedule) Fogg.

Mrs. Chamberlain has lived in Wolfeboro most of her life. She was a homemaker, staying home to raise her family. She was a graduate of Brewster Academy, Class of 1943. A member of the St. Cecilia Church in Wolfeboro, she enjoyed collecting dolls, books, antique music boxes and bottles. She also enjoyed reading, tending to her wildflower garden and watching birds at her feeders.

She enjoyed and loved her family most of all.

Members of her family include her daughter, Carolyn M. Wiggin and her husband, Willie, of Wolfeboro; her son, James E. Chamberlain of Dublin, Ohio; her grandchildren, Brian and Michael Chamberlain, both of Columbus, Ohio, Kevin Chamberlain of Chicago, Ill., Mathew Chamberlain of Wolfeboro, Jeremy and Jennifer Wiggin, both of Wolfeboro, Carrie and Andrew Chamberlain, both of Centreville, Va.; her brothers, Scott W. Whittier of Milan, and Richard and Paul Fogg, both of Chesapeake, Md.; a sister, Marguerite Fogg of Bradenton, Fla., and her companion of many years, Francis J. Noone of Wolfeboro.

She is predeceased by her husband, Edwin R. Chamberlain in 1985; a son, Daniel A. Chamberlain in 1998 and a grandson, Tyler Chamberlain in 2001.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wolfeboro. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Wolfeboro following services. Flowers are accepted but donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Mary Hitchcock Cancer Research.

Lord Funeral Home, Route 28 in Wolfeboro, is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Consentine

PORTSMOUTH - Harold F. Consentine, 63, of 444B Pleasant St., passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Saugus, Mass., on Dec. 5, 1937, the son of the late Felix and Clara (Haushalte) Consentine.

Mr. Consentine was self-employed in the security business for several local businesses.

Survivors include his former wife, Patricia (Scheinder) Consentine; his children, DeDe Estes and her husband Wayne of Portsmouth, Butch Consentine of Brownfield, Maine, Terry Poole of Rochester, and Cara Hyde and husband Bruce of Portsmouth, Kristen Valdez and husband Ramone of Dover, Lindsay Consentine of Portsmouth, Lisa Consentine of Dover, and Denise Louque and husband Lenny of Louisiana; eight grandchildren; three siblings, Paul Consentine of Maryland, Mariam Baressi of California, and Albert Consentine of Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter Ordway

ROLLINSFORD - Peter Ordway, 69, of Rollinsford, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 in the company of his family.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1932, in Fort Meyers, Fla., the son of Donald and Molly (Hamill) Ordway.

Peter was educated at Christ School in Arden, N.C., University of California at Berkeley and at the University of New Hampshire.

Peter was active in many conservation causes, especially the Calusa Land Trust of Pine Island, Fla. Peter loved hiking, sailing, music and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat (Adams) Ordway; two daughters, Brigit and her partner, Sue, and Kate and her husband, Richard; one son, Jonathan and his wife, Ling, and five grandchildren, Noelle, Sam, Cora, James and Isabelle, all of Rollinsford.

Memorial donations may be made in Peter’s name to the Seacoast Hospice Care, 662 Central Ave., Dover, N.H. 03820 or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, Mass. 02115-6060.

Charles Roy

SOMERSWORTH - Charles "Chuck" Roy, 38, of 11 Jackson St., Rochester and formerly of 27 Green St., Somersworth, died Thursday, November 22, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital as a result of a massive aneurysm.

Chuck was born on May 1, 1963, in Somersworth and was the son of Armand and Frances (Leclair) Roy. He was raised in this community and lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of St. Thomas High School, Dover, Class of 1982. He attended Franklin Pierce College and MacIntosh School of Business. Chuck spent most of his career in food service, working and managing the family restaurant Ray’s Pizza and Seafood. He also managed Jo Jo’s Ice Cream, a shop owned by his family and named after him. He had also been employed for a time as a manager at Friendly’s Restaurant and Roger’s Pizza.

He enjoyed life, he was studying for his pilot’s license, was active in bowling, skiing and loved golf. He was active every year in the Toys for Tots Program. He will be remembered as a giving person and, even in his death, became an organ donor so others could have a second chance at life. Chuck was a person who loved and was liked by all. The special times with family, nephews and nieces at the family camp will long be remembered.

Family members include his parents, Armand and Frances Roy of Somersworth, his two sisters, Mrs. John (Wendy) Viola and Mrs. Tim (Judy) Turgeon, both of Somersworth; his special nieces and nephews, Brianna, Brandon and Brooke Viola and Dayle and Cote Turgeon; his godmother, Anita Norman, who will sadly miss him; and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church, W. High Street, Somersworth. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Victim’s Inc., Shoreyville Plaza, E. Rochester, N.H. 03868.

Valmore Vachon

MILTON - Valmore R. Vachon, "Val", 28, of White Mountain Highway, died on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, after a construction work accident on a job site in Boston.

Born on Nov. 25, 1972, in Dover, he was the son of Thomas R. and Judith L. (Joy) Vachon. He had resided in Milton all of his life and attended Milton schools.

He was employed as a construction worker, having worked for various construction companies.

Val wrote poetry and also was an artist; he loved music and enjoyed reading. He loved his three children, family, and friends and enjoyed hanging out with his nephews. He was a big guy with a big heart and an unforgettable smile.

He is survived by his mother, Judith L. (Joy) Vachon of Milton; a daughter, Taynika Annette of Houlton, Maine, and two sons, Codie Vachon and Austin Vachon, both of Milton; one brother, Karl Bostrom of East Rochester; four sisters, Deborah A.V. Downs of Milton, Christine Vachon of Milton, Joy Dore of Middleton and Mandee Hermonat of Farmington, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas R. Vachon in June 2001.

Calling hours are Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home at 32 Central St. in Farmington, N.H.

The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Milton Mills Cemetery.

A reception will be held at the American Legion Hall in Milton.

Barbara Wallace

BROOKLINE, Mass. - Barbara R. (Markey) Wallace died on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001.

Barbara was born in Dover, N.H.

She was a Textile Designer for Jack Lenor Larsen as well as a Teacher of Weaving at Boston University’s Program in Artisanry; she also worked and taught at the Haystack School of Craft in Maine.

Barbara was the wife of H. Richard Wallace and mother of Gwendolyn Wallace-Slamovich of West Lafayette, Ind.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 26 at noon in the Bell-O’Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., Brookline, Mass. 02445.

Robert Chadbourne Sr.

SANFORD, Maine - Robert E. "Chad" Chadbourne Sr., 73, of Sanford, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, while visiting a friend in Waldoboro.

Mr. Chadbourne was born on Oct. 25, 1928, in Yarmouth. He was the son of Clinton and Lillian Libby Chadbourne. He attended schools in Portland and at a young age joined the United States Marine Corp.

Mr. Chadbourne proudly served his country for over seven years, volunteering for a second tour of duty in the Korean Conflict. Following his service he worked for A&P Bakery, the Casco Bay Cruise Lines as a ship captain, and for the City of Biddeford.

He enjoyed gardening, yard work, collecting stamps, and helping out others. Mr. Chadbourne was a very social person that enjoyed everyone’s company and conversation. For many years he cared for and looked after his wife after she fell ill.

He was a member of and past commander of the American Legion Post 19, the Eagles Club, AMVETS of Biddeford, and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Smith Chadbourne of Sanford; three daughters, Hazel Leskowsky of E. Waterboro, Deborah Hopkins of Old Orchard Beach, and Tammy Burovac of Eliot; three sons, Robert Jr. of Circleville, Ohio, Gregory of Lewiston, and Victor Smith of Youngstown, Ohio; a brother, Howard Chadbourne of Windham; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Nov. 19 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale; where a 7:15 p.m. American Legion service will be held.

A 10 a.m. funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Burial will be at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the spring of 2002.
