Juliette Tewksbury

DOVER - Juliette B. Tewksbury, 86, of 504 Central Towers, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the Harbor Home in York, Maine. She was born in Berlin, March 1, 1915, the daughter of the late Robert and Odila (Goudreau) Lefrancois. Mrs. Tewksbury was raised in Berlin and had resided in Dover for many years coming from Portsmouth. She worked as a quality control inspector at the Davidson Rubber Company for 24 years retiring in 1983. She was a member of the AARP.

Family members include one daughter, Barbara A. Tewksbury Lefrancois of Dover, who winters in Florida; three sons, Robert A. Tewksbury, Sr. of Dover, Lee B. Tewksbury, Jr., of York, Maine, and Robert E. Lefrancois Burbank of Pasquog, R.I.; one brother, Rene Lefrancois of Berlin; one sister, Blanche Begin of Berlin; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tewksbury was predeceased by her husband, Lee B. Tewksbury, Sr. who died in 1967; a son, Donald L. Tewksbury, who died in 1958; and by a stepson, Richard Tewksbury, who died in 1996.

Graveside services will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery, Stratham, Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

The family requests there be no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to Shriner’s hospital for Crippled Children, c/o Recorder, Bektash Temple, P.O. Patricia Titus

ELIOT, Maine - Patricia I’ans Titus, 57, of Eliot died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born June 26, 1944, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Mr. Kenneth Titus and Florence (Jackson) Titus of Kittery, Maine. Her father died in 1999. Patricia grew up in the Kittery area and lived most of her life in Eliot.

She worked 21 years at Pratt and Whitney in North Berwick as an assistant pay master, a job she enjoyed and worked very hard at.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her long time companion, Linda Ross of Eliot; and cherished cousins, Gloria Teague of Portsmouth, John Titus of Reading, Mass., Robert Jones of Dalzell, S.C. and Harry Parker of Williamsburg, Va.

She will be deeply missed by her many friends and former co-workers in the Kittery-Eliot area.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot. An hour of visitation will take place Tuesday morning from 9-10 a.m. at the Wilson Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Animal Welfare Society, Inc., Old Holland Road, P.O. Box 41, West Kennebunk, Maine 04094-0043.

Ralph Young

WOLFEBORO - Ralph "Red" Young, 75, of Lakeview Drive, died Nov. 17, 2001, at his son’s home in Atlanta, Ga.

He was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Rochester, the son of the late Carlton and Dorothy (Davis) Young. He graduated from Spaulding High School.

Mr. Young retired from the United States Army after 23 years serving in World War II and Vietnam.

During his military career he had traveled with his wife worldwide.

He has lived in Wolfeboro since retiring from the military and was a winter resident of Seminole, Fla. In Wolfeboro he worked as a car salesman for Pierce Ford, Horne’s Ford and Kammler Chevrolet, he also worked at Bradley’s Hardware and was a member of the Kingswood Golf Club in Wolfeboro.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite (Lovering) Young on August 28, 2001, and a sister, Irene Rumerald.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Young and his wife, Susan, of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Lloyd Young of Norristown, Pa.; three sisters, Beverly Marcoux of Milton, Lila Dionne of Rochester and Betty Sullivan of Alton; two grandchildren, Justin and Amanda Young of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nephews and nieces.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Lakeview Cemetery, Wolfeboro. The Rev. Wilbur Hartford will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to VNA Hospice of Southern Carroll County and Vincinity P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro and West Ossipee are in charge of the arrangements.

Beatrice Cornish

ROCHESTER - Beatrice N. Cornish, 90, of 60 Leonard St., died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, following a brief illness.

She was born on April 26, 1911, in Rochester, the daughter of Chester Cushing Nutter and Catherine Quinn Nutter. She attended the local schools, School Street Elementary School and Rochester High School, from which she graduated in 1929 as salutatorian. She was vice president of her class in sophomore, junior, and senior years. She was awarded the Springfield Scholarship and the Rochester Women’s Club Scholarship. In 1933 she was graduated cum laude from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in Latin, French, and English. She was awarded the Cogswell Prize in 1932, which was given to the 10 top juniors for scholastic achievement. She took many postgraduate courses at UNH and in 1962 was a selectee for the National French Institute held at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., for 10 weeks of concentrated language study.

Her teaching career began in 1933-1934 at Appleton Academy in New Ipswich under Principal Lester Smith, a former teacher of history in Rochester High School, followed by two years (1934-1936) at Nute High School in Milton. Then she returned to Rochester High School as teacher of all four years of high school English (1936-1939). This was continued at the new Spaulding High School from 1939-1947 when she resigned to raise her two daughters. In 1952 she returned to Spaulding as a teacher of French and Latin until her retirement in 1974. During her years at Spaulding, she was faculty adviser for the Red and White magazine and for the National Honor Society. She was director of the American Classical League and of the Rochester Cultural Club, sponsoring annual trips for pupils to Europe from 1968 to 1976. She was class adviser for the Class of 1944 and the Class of 1963. She also sponsored annual fall trips to Boston to attend the Boston Science Museum exhibits and the Cinerama widescreen films. The annual spring trips were to the Shakespeare Festival at North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, Mass.

Friends may also remember her as a sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia from 1953 to 1973 during summer months and school vacations.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church from childhood. She served on the Parish Council from 1980 to 1983 as chairman of the Christian Formation Committee. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers, the New Hampshire Retired Teachers, the Strafford County Retired Teachers (secretary 1977-1979, vice president 1979-1981, director 1987-2001), honorary member of the National Education Association AARP division of retired teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma International Honor Society for Women Educators, Zeta Chapter secretary 1980-1984, a member of the Mary Torr Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Strafford County Community Concert Association director for many years, vice president (1982) and secretary (1983-1991), UNH Alumni Association, vice president and later president of the Class of 1931 and served on committees for the 50th reunion in 1983 and the 55th reunion in 1989 at which time the UNH 1933 Endowment Fund to the Honors Program was established. She was also on the UNH Seacoast Alumni Board of Directors (1980-1990), a member of Silver Squares at Durham, the Rochester Women’s Club (secretary, 1987 and 1988); Rochester Historical Society, and Durham’s ARA (Active Retirement Association). She has arranged annual reunions for the Rochester High School Class of 1929 through 1974.

In June 1995, she was honored by her alma mater and presented the UNH Alumni Meritorious Service Award and membership in the AMSA Association.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sharyn L. Stuart and her husband Norman of Rochester, and Cathryn C. Spreeman and her husband Joseph of Northwood; three grandchildren, Michael D. Stuart and wife Carol of Houston, Texas, Jennifer B. Stuart of Pleasantville, N.Y., and Jotham C. Spreeman of Northwood; two step-grandchildren, Deborah A. Spreeman and her son Gage of Phoenix, Ariz., and Heather M. Spreeman of Northwood; a cousin, Dorothy Chalmers of Rochester, and many friends and former students of 35 years.

Family and friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Lowell Street, Rochester, with the Rev. Pierre Baker, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will take place at the Rochester Cemetery on Franklin Street following the service.

Mary Evans

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Mary E. Evans, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died on the evening of Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in a Charleston, S.C., hospital.

She was born on June 21, 1920, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Dr. Frank A. and Annie Morrill Ross and was reared in South Berwick, Maine. She took Jesus as her savior while a teen-ager at First Baptist Church of South Berwick.

An alum of the Berwick Academy, class of 1937, she attended Nasson College in Maine and was later graduated from the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She was a retired intensive care nurse at Medical University of South Carolina.

A 40-year member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, she was also past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, a member of the East Cooper Republican Women’s Club, the Sunshine Club, and was a volunteer at the East Cooper Regional Medical Center.

She is the widow of CWO William A. Evans, USN, who preceded her in death in 1975.

Waiting to join her in glory, she leaves two sons, William A. Evans and his wife Diane of South Berwick, and Ross K. Evans and his wife Bonnie of Rockwall, Texas; two daughters, Corinne E. Wise and her husband Frank of Bastrop, Texas, and Maryanne E. Potter and her husband James of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her cousins, Alberta Johnson and Pamela Ferriera of Jacksonville; her brother, Richard A. Evans and his wife Thelma of Rhode Island; and many nieces and nephews. Numerous brothers and sisters in Christ also survive.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Medical University of South Carolina for their wonderful loving care during her brief illness. They will long remember how gracious, professional, and exquisitely caring they were to her and her family. They also thank and praise God for her loving church family who continues to minister to them in their needs.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday in the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at a later date in South Berwick.

Honorary pallbearers are John Thomson, Marshall Wilkes, George Leighten, and her grandchildren, Will Wise, James Wise, Matthew Potter, Amy Potter, Ross K. Evans Jr. and Mary E. Evans.

Memorials are suggested to The First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, Building Fund, 681 McCants Dr., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or a charity of one’s choice.

Francis Harvey

MEREDITH - Francis "Frank" W. Harvey, 62, of Water Street, died Nov. 16, 2001, at his home after a long illness.

Born in Laconia on June 19, 1939, he was the son of Raymond A. and Florence (Batchelder) Harvey. He was a lifelong resident of Meredith and graduated from Meredith High School, class of 1958.

He worked for Pike Industries for 30 years as a project manager.

He was a communicant of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church in Meredith and a charter member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 2312, in Plymouth.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Lee Harvey of Meredith; two daughters, Ann Marie Connaughton of Meredith and Meredith L. Harvey of Meredith; one granddaughter, Kiara A. Connaughton of Meredith; two sisters, Karen Conklin of Oregon and Lorraine Champney of Plymouth; one half-brother, Norman Batchelder of New Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the Mayhew Funeral Home, routes 3 and 104, Meredith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Meredith. The Rev. Richard Thompson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Meredith Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Health and Hospice, North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.

Alice Paterson

DOVER - Alice M. (Dennis) Paterson, 91, formerly of Hanson Street, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Riverside Rest Home.

Born in Dover on May 4, 1910, the daughter of James F. and Mary (McGuiggin) Dennis, she resided here for all of her life.

Alice was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Dover Area Senior Center and the A.A.R.P.

She is survived by a nephew, Raymond Dennis of Dover; and close friends including Doria Burns, and Ed and Helen Poulin, all of Dover.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Paterson, who died in 1979 and her sister, Dorothy A. Dennis, who died in 1996.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday from 3-6 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, 1150 Central Ave. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.

Carlton Wentworth

ROCHESTER - Carlton W. Wentworth, 68, of Rochester, died Wednesday at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Kittery, the son of the late John and Mildred (Cooper) Wentworth. He attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly in Korea.

He lived in the Dover area for over 40 years, and worked as an auto mechanic at McFarland Ford in Exeter. He retired in 1995. He loved everything to do with automobiles, and worked on fixing them even on his own time.

Over the years he collected model ducks and mallards that he received from friends and family, and spent many pleasurable hours watching the ducks and mallards at Hilton State Park and at a nearby yacht club. He loved to watch television, and enjoyed being around his many friends and neighbors. He had a tremendous sense of humor and was a very giving man. He also enjoyed listening to Roy Orbison’s music.

On Jan. 4, 1984, he married Carol Towle in Goffstown. They lived in Dover and over the past couple of years resided in Rochester.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his beloved children, Colleen Spiro of Cape Coral, Fla., Cindy Towle of Portsmouth, Keith Annis of Rochester, Garry Wentworth of Louisiana and Kerry Annis of Rochester; his cherished 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers and a son, David.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Wilson Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine. The Reverend Wayne Nelson, pastor of the Rochester Church of God, will conduct services. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

At the family’s request, only family flowers will be received, and those who wish may send contributions to a charity of one’s choice. Also, the family would request that those who plan to attend services please dress casually, no suits or ties. Come and relax during this celebration of his life.

Florence Wilder

ALTON BAY - Florence M. Wilder, 93, of the Woodlands, died early Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2001, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a brief illness.

Born July 14, 1908, in Westport, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Ellis) Webber. Florence was a longtime resident of Alton Bay.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Alton.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert R. Wilder, who died on July 27, 1999. She is survived by two sisters, Clara Higgins of Concord and Blanche Hicks of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada; one brother, Emerson Webber of Thetis Island, British Columbia; and also several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Alton Funeral Home, School Street, in Alton. There are no calling hours. Friends are welcome to the service. Interment will follow at Old Riverside Cemetery on Main Street in Alton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, Laconia, NH 03246.

Kathleen Kimball

DOVER - Kathleen Lee Kimball, 52, of 25 Bellamy Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Boston Medical Center after a period of failing health.

Born May 21, 1949, in Pittsfield, she was the daughter of Leo and Ethel (Brown) Clarke.

She was employed as a key punch operator with the Department of Public Health in Massachusetts.

She is survived by her husband, Forrest E. Kimball of Dover; three sons, Scott and Keith Kimball, both of South Boston, Mass., and Bryan Kimball of Dover; two daughters, Michelle (Kimball) Clancy of South Boston and Katie Kimball of Dover; four brothers, William Clarke of Dorchester, Mass., Robert Clarke of South Boston, Michael and John Freeman, both of South Boston; five sisters, Evelyn Freeman, Jeanne Evju, Kristine Powers, Theresa Fitzpatrick and Karen Davis, all of South Boston; two grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews, all of South Boston.

Friends and relatives may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fritz J. Cerullo, O.S.A., pastor St. Mary’s Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
