Rex Billbrough

PORTSMOUTH - Master Sgt. Rex Billbrough, USMC (Ret.) 80, the widower of Ruth C. (Leamon) Billbrough, of 320 Ocean Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in New Lothrop, Mich., on April 25, 1920, he was the son of Floyd and Sylvina A. (Burbridge) Billbrough.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1954, as a master sergeant drill instructor.

He was employed for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an electronic mechanic, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the Senior Friends and a member of the World War II Drill Instructors Association 2nd Marine Division.

Survivors include his children, Ann O'Keefe of Derwood, Md.; Thomas Billbrough of Danville; and Sandra Dupuis of Barrington; seven grandchildren, Beth O'Keefe, Jennie O'Keefe, Michael O'Keefe Jr., Crystal Barker, Jason Dupuis, Timothy Billbrough, and Thomas Billbrough Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Rebeka Barker; special friend, Patricia Linscott of Kittery, Maine; a brother, Raymond Billbrough of Flint, Mich.; and one niece and one nephew.

BILLBROUGH - Master Sgt. Rex Billbrough, USMC (Ret.) 80, of 320 Ocean Road, Portsmouth, died Dec. 26, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours are 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

David Clark

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for David Clark, 43, of Portsmouth, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Tuesday, with services held at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Arthur L. Hilson, pastor, officiated. Jarvis Williamson gave the obituary reading. Prayer of Consolation was given by Elder Mitchell. Musical selections were given by Sister Lucy Fair and Sister Carrie Coltrane. Reflections were given by many family and friends.

In attendance were members of the church.

Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Dr. Hilson.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Clark's son, David Clark Jr.

Bearers were David's son, David Clark Jr., Ervin Hayward, Herbie Clark, Dennis Clark, Barney Brown and Kazi Toures. Honorary bearers were Daniel Wilson and Zachary Wilson.

Dolores Barrett Lovejoy

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Dolores Barrett Lovejoy, 75, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Wednesday. Pastor Roland Kimball officiated. Words of remembrance and poems were given by granddaughters Stacy Cullipher and Kristy Glidden.

Burial was in Central Cemetery in Rye, with committal services by Pastor Kimball. Bearers were Jamie Chambers, Jay Smith, Jared Smith, James Rekasis, Kevin Van Etten and Rick Kennedy.

Michael James Capalbo

BERWICK, Maine - Michael James Capalbo, 46, of 17 Carolyn Drive, died suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1954, in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the son of John and Loretta (Salisbury) Capalbo. He resided in Portsmouth before moving with his family to Somersworth, N.H., where he graduated at the Somersworth High School, Class of 1972.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army.

He moved to Berwick and had been employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft of North Berwick as a parts expediter. He retired due to health reasons in 1999.

He enjoyed sports, having played on area softball teams and Legion baseball after high school. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved coaching young kids and coached area youth baseball teams. He relished time with his sons and took great interest in their hobbies and sports. He also enjoyed the excitement (and disappointment) of the professional Boston sports teams.

He treasured the friendships of three dear friends, Rick Bisson and Pete Hebert of Rochester, N.H., and Paul Rouleau of Barrington, N.H.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Rita (Grenier) Capalbo of Berwick; three sons, Chad Capalbo of Somersworth, N.H., Shawn and Brian Capalbo, both of Berwick; two brothers, John Capalbo Jr. of Troy, N.Y., and Paul Capalbo of Somersworth; and six nieces, Melissa, Jennifer, Cathrine, Angella, Andrea and Lisa.

CAPALBO - Michael J. Capalbo, 46, of 17 Carolyn Drive, Berwick, Maine, died Dec. 26, 2000. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Dover Baptist Church, 151 Washington St., Dover, with Pastor Kenneth Monahan officiating. Burial will take place in the spring. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association of New Hampshire, P.O. Box 1014, Manchester, NH 03105; or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, c/o Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102. Nancy Ervin

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Nancy (MacDonald) Ervin, 69, of Santa Cruz, formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Palo Alto, Calif., after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Daniel MacDonald and Margaret (Gray) MacDonald Frysalis.

After attending Portsmouth public schools, she enlisted in the Woman's Army Corp. Most of her adult working life was spent in real estate sales.

Upon retiring in 1994, she spent as much time as possible with her grandchildren and tried to return home to her beloved New Hampshire as often as possible.

She is survived by one daughter, Lizann; four sons, Christopher who currently resides in California, Daniel, Brett and Anthony, of New Hampshire; five granddaughters, Michaela and Mackenzie of California, Danielle Ray, Miranda and Haley; one grandson, Brett of New Hampshire; one brother and his wife, Peter and Claire Frysalis of Stratham, N.H.; one uncle, Joseph MacDonald of Portsmouth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make donations to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or to the SPCA, Portsmouth Avenue, Stratham.

David Scott Packard

DOVER - David Scott Packard, 62, of 113 Durham Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Born in Rutland, Vermont, on March 30, 1938, he was the son of Stanley Scott and Marjorie June (Morse) Packard. He grew up in Portsmouth where he graduated from St. Patrick's School and Portsmouth High School, Class of 1956. He lived in Richmond, Maine, and moved to Dover 17 years ago.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957 and retired after more than 19 years of service. He was a member of the Richmond Maine American Legion Post.

He has worked as a maintenance man for the Fairfield Garden Apartments in Dover, and for the past four and a half years he worked for the C.P. Management Co.

He enjoyed doing volunteer work for Pro Portsmouth and Channel 11, New Hampshire Public Television, in Durham. He loved being out of doors and also spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jacqueline (Dumais) Packard, of Dover; five children and their spouses, Terri Lapoint and her husband, Steve, of Somersworth; Joyce Beasley and her husband, Bruce, of Richmond, Maine; David Packard Jr., and his wife, Kathy, of West Valley, Utah; Kathy Bryson and her husband, David, of Auburn; Michael Packard and his wife, Carmen, of Stafford, Va.; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Marjorie Packard, of Couperville, Wash.; his siblings, Marilyn Carta and her husband, Bill, of Yuba City, Calif.; Wayne Packard and his wife, Charlotte, of East Lebanon, Maine; Carol Barrett and her husband, Joe, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; Sharon Griffin and her husband, George, of Pasadena, Texas; Linda Chisholm and her husband, Bob, of Canterbury; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Packard.

PACKARD - David Scott Packard, 62, of 113 Durham Road, Dover, died Dec. 26, 2000. There are no calling hours. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery, Greenland Road, Portsmouth, with the Rev. Edward J. Kelley, pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Portsmouth, officiating. Friends are invited to attend. If desired, donations in his name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Fairfax, Va. Arrangements are by Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.

Agnes G. Tomkinson

HAMPTON - The funeral for Agnes G. Tomkinson, 96, a resident of the Seacoast Health Center since 1994 and formerly of Portsmouth, was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, from the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was concelebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Portsmouth. The Rev. John MacKenzie, associate pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton, and the Rev. Agapit H. Jean, pastor of St. James Church in Portsmouth, were the celebrants. Marion Arnoldy was organist and Mary Leonard was soloist. The readings were offered by Michael Armstrong, Ted Joubert and Kevin Roberts. Words of remembrance were offered by Kenneth Tomkinson and Sr. Doris Ouellette, C.S.C. Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth with the Rite of Committal conducted by Father MacKenzie. Pallbearers were, Scott Joubert, Jim Tomkinson, Kevin Roberts, Mark Roberts, Edward Roberts, Paul Roberts and Joshua Roberts.

David P. Kelley

KINGSTON - David P. Kelley, 56, of 4 Clement Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at his home.

Born Oct. 27, 1944, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of Ralph E. Kelley Sr. of Sayre, Pa., and the late Ruth (Johnston) Kelley.

He was raised in Constantia, N.Y., and was a graduate of P.V. Moore High School. He moved to Kingston in 1977.

He was a senior project engineer for Westinghouse Electric Co. of Newington, formerly known as ABB Combustion Engineering Nuclear Power of Newington.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing and was on the pit crew at Lee Raceway, and he also had raced at Star Speedway in Epping.

In addition to his father, family members include his wife of 32 years, Eleanor C. (DeVany) Kelley of Kingston; one son, Sean P. Kelley and his wife, Cynthia, of Denver; one daughter, Christine E. Kelley of Exeter; two grandchildren, Jacob W. Kelley and Elania A. Kelley, both of Denver; three brothers, Ralph E. Kelley Jr. of Central Square, N.Y., Peter G. Kelley and Donald N. Kelley, both of Constantia, N.Y.; one sister, Virginia Bradt of Central Square, N.Y.; his stepmother, Helen Kelley of Sayre, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

KELLEY - David P. Kelley, 56, of 4 Clement Ave., Kingston, died Dec. 26, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family requests no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. DICREDICO - Bernard D. DiCredico, 78, of Stoneham, Mass., died Dec. 27, 2000. J. "Norman" Oswell Jr.

KITTERY, Maine - J. "Norman" Oswell Jr., 80, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, following a long illness, at Langdon Place in Dover, N.H.

Born Dec. 18, 1920, in South Paris, Maine, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James N. and Eva (Swett) Oswell Sr. He attended local schools in South Paris and at the age of 15, he and his family moved to Kittery, where he attended and graduated from Traip Academy. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and served his country proudly during World War II as a pilot. He was honorably discharged as a second lieutenant.

He worked for 40 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, first as a blacksmith's helper and then as a shipfitter's assistant. He took courses in drafting and design, and eventually became a design engineering specialist at the shipyard, where he retired in 1980.

Outside of work, he was fond of working around his home and camp, and being around his family. He was active with St. Mark's United Methodist Church as a member, a former trustee and a longtime, very popular Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed boating and water skiing. He will long be remembered for his many hours of volunteer work with the youth of Kittery. He was instrumental in starting the Kittery Saturday morning basketball program for the young people of the town. He spent many wonderful times attending basketball games with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carolyn Thompson of South Berwick, whom he married on April 21, 1945, in St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Kittery. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Mrs. Lois Miller of South Berwick; Mrs. Jill Estes of Kittery; and Jay Oswell of Dover, N.H.; a sister, Charlotte Lackner of Mayfield Heights, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by his precious and beloved grandchildren, Lynn and Tara Eisner, and Timothy and Emily Estes; and his very close friend, niece Elizabeth Farmer of Chesterfield, Ohio.

OSWELL - J. "Norman" Oswell Jr., 80, of Kittery, Maine, died Dec. 25, 2000. There will be no public funeral or visitation hours. Burial will take place in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery. Isabella Parker Rohr

EXETER - Isabella Parker Rohr died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000.

Born May 30, 1906, she was a lifelong resident of Exeter and past owner of the property which is now the Exeter Clinic.

She is survived by three daughters, Helen Kujwaska McNally of Hampton, Christine Kujwaska Dining of Hampton Beach and Carolyn Rohr Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Arthur Frederick Rohr of Phoenix, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Robin Copp Currier of Brentwood; three grandsons, Francis McNally of Dover and Shawn and Christopher Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three great-grandsons, Marc, Jordon and Dalton.

Memorial services will be held privately by the family.

Sharon Kay Meeks

KITTERY, Maine - Sharon Kay Meeks, 56, of Cutts Road, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at her home after a long illness.

Born May 5, 1944, in Springfield, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Donald and Pauline (Davis) McBride.

She had resided in Kittery for the past year. She had lived in Lee, N.H., for one year and in Portsmouth, N.H. for 25 years.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Samuel G. Meeks, of Kittery; three daughters, Cathy Lauber of Greenland, N.H., Debra Tatro of Rye, N.H., and Tina Tatro of North Hampton, N.H.; one son, Johnnie Meeks of Barrington, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Frederick Lauber Jr., Michael Lauber, Frank Tatro Jr., Kristina Meeks, Nicole Tatro, Samuel Meeks and Ashley Tatro; one sister, Beverly Sue Harlan of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

MEEKS - Sharon Kay Meeks, 56, of Cutts Road, Kittery, Maine, died Dec. 26, 2000. Calling hours will be held on from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, N.H. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston, N.H. The Rev. Daniel Weaver will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, N.H. 03110-5032, and the United Way, 71 International Drive, Portsmouth, N.H. 03801.

Alfred Warren Carr

EPPING - Alfred Warren Carr, 77, of Epping, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in the caring hands of friends and staff at Rockingham County Nursing Facility.

Born on July 18, 1923, he was the son of Bessie M. Wentworth and Alfred Carr.

After leaving Laconia State School as a young man, he made his own way working as a farmhand. He spent many years at Wagon Hill Farm in Durham. When the proprietor died in the mid-1960s, he moved on to the Harvey Farm in Epping.

He was devoted to cows and enjoyed farm life in general. With the help of many friends, he bravely dealt with cancer, never complained and passed peacefully on Christmas Eve.

CARR - Alfred Warren Carr, 77, of Epping, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000. There will be no calling hours. A small graveside service will be held at the Harvey family cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home of Epping.

Winifred M. Kingston

NEWFIELDS - Winifred Mae Yager Kingston, a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family from lung cancer on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000.

She was born on May 27, 1931, in Hackettestown, N.J., and received her R.N. from Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J. She was married to William Bernard Kingston Jr.

Winnie and Willie were married for 40 years and last resided in Newfields. Together, they shared a love of antiques and opened a small business called The Nook and Granny in York, Maine.

Winnie enjoyed spending time with her dear friends playing tennis, playing bridge, painting, rug hooking, sewing and "antiquing." She had many talents and will be affectionately missed by all of her friends and family.

She is survived by her mother, Helen M. Yager of Exeter, formerly of Hackettestown, N.J.; her brother Roy N. Yager of Hackettestown; her five daughters, Kathleen A. Kingston of Anchorage, Alaska; Sally A. Kingston of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Nancy M. Kingston and her children, Megan Higgins, and Molly and Erin Chesterton of Newfields; Carol Mucci, her husband Joseph Mucci, and their children, Lexi and Lindsey Mucci of Windham; and Patricia V. Mosher, her husband H. Todd Mosher, and their children, Arley, Alysha and Brianna Mosher of Gardiner, Maine; and her Labrador retriever, Mandy.

It gives her family great joy that she will be rejoined in heaven with her husband, Willie.

The Kingston daughters are very grateful for all the help and support of Winnie's close friends and Seacoast Hospice, especially Kris, Edie and Wes.

KINGSTON - Winifred M. Kingston of Newfields died Dec. 21, 2000. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Church in Newfields. Burial will follow in the Rockingham Cemetery, Newfields. Following the burial there will be a reception for family and friends at the Rockingham Ballroom, Ash Swamp Road, Newmarket. Agnes Tomkinson

HAMPTON - Agnes Tomkinson, 96, of 22 Tuck Road, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Seacoast Health Center.

Raised in South Boston and Dorchester, Mass., one of 12 children, she was born in Boston on Dec. 12, 1904, the daughter of the late Joseph and Johanna (O'Brien) Scully.

She worked as a stenographer for the Bank of Boston for 14 years before her marriage and moved to Portsmouth in 1938.

She was a graduate of the former Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School of Boston. She had been a Portsmouth resident for 62 years before moving to Hampton six years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Tomkinson, in 1950, and by her son, Ernest R. "Bonesy" Tomkinson in 1989.

Family members include two sons, Kenneth F. Tomkinson of Portland, Maine, and Michael J. Tomkinson and his wife, Tammi, of Asheville, N.C.; two daughters, Lenore "Lenny" Joubert and her husband, Ted, of Hampton, and Barbara Roberts of Stratham; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

TOMKINSON - Agnes Tomkinson, 96, of Hampton, died Dec. 23, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Paul J. St. Laurent

ROCHESTER - Paul J. St. Laurent, husband, father, friend, coach, 57, of 209 Milton Road, No. 40, died in his home on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, after a long illness.

He was born in Sanford, Maine, on Nov. 1, 1943, and was the son of Raymond and Marabelle (Gilmette) St. Laurent. He was retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after 17 years of faithful service.

He was a devoted member of the Dover Moose and Rochester Elk clubs. His love for music had him involved in several local bands over the last 35 years in various capacities. He was an accomplished musician who played the guitar and piano and was well-regarded as a vocalist.

He enjoyed time with his family camping, bass fishing and racing, but most of all Paul enjoyed sharing his time and his energy with the youth of Rochester. His 30 years of contribution to the community's baseball and football youth programs was best demonstrated in his recent election into the Rochester Sports Hall of Fame. "A great person-to-person mentor of youth athletes" was how he was described by several of his peers.

His volunteer time in the development of Roger Allen Park was instrumental in its growth in the past 20 years. He had the privilege to coach five Seacoast championship teams and be part of a very successful sports program.

Paul's coaching philosophy was a simple one - he instilled in his players the need to strive for maximum personal effort, not just a record of wins and losses. In this, his successes have and will continue to be demonstrated for years to come.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Laurette A. (Tanguay) St. Laurent, whom he married in March 1969; a son, John R. St. Laurent of Amherst; two daughters, Tammy J. St. Laurent of Rochester and Tina M. St. Laurent of Hampton. He was predeceased by two sons, Robert M. St. Laurent and Peter V. St. Laurent. He was the proud Pepé of six grandchildren; and loving brother of three brothers, Roger, Richard and Ronald; and two sisters, Judy St. Laurent and Jeanene Seavy St. Laurent.

ST. LAURENT - Paul J. St. Laurent, 57, of 209 Milton Road, No. 40, Rochester, died in his home on Dec. 24, 2000. Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at R.M. Edgerly & Sons Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Church in Rochester. Burial will take place in the spring. Donations may be made to the Rochester Youth Football League, c/o George Woodill, 44 Ten Rod Road, Rochester, NH 03867.

Rosemary Carufel Dancause

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Rosemary Carufel Dancause, 86, of MacMillan Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Lucien A. Dancause of Brunswick; a son and daughter-in-law, Lucien A. Jr. and Joan Dancause of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary A. and Robert Paul of Greenland, N.H.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, David Carufel, and a sister, Louise McCann.

DANCAUSE - Rosemary Carufel Dancause, 86, of MacMillan Drive, Brunswick, Maine, died Dec. 24, 2000. Visiting hours will be held 4-6 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday from St. Charles Borromeo Church, McKeen Street, Brunswick, with the Rev. Stephen Concannon officiating. Spring interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to CHANS Hospice, 50 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011; or the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
