Dr. Panagiotis "Peter" Nibi

KITTERY, Maine - Dr. Panagiotis "Peter" Nibi, 74, a resident of Haley Road, formerly of North Hampton, N.H., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born Dec. 12, 1926, in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of Remu and Georgia (Petrakakis) Nibi. He graduated from schools in Romania and was a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had operated a chiropractic practice in both the Plaistow, Mass., and Seabrook, N.H., areas since 1954. He was also employed as a ski instructor at Mount Cranmore, N.H., for more than 25 years.

He enjoyed building furniture and playing middle-eastern music.

He is survived by his wife, Susan C. (Vigeant) Nibi of Kittery; one son, Mark Demers of Shrewsbury, Mass.; two daughters, Heidi Nibi of Bradford, Mass., and Mrs. Rick (Michele) Perry of Nashua; one brother, James Nibi of Ponta Verde, Fla.; and one grandson.

NIBI - Dr. Panagiotis "Peter" Nibi, 74, of Haley Road, Kittery, Maine, died Dec. 17, 2000. Services will be private. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in his memory to the Hospice of York, 5 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. Arrangements by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.

Scott M. Pierce

SALEM - Scott M. Pierce, 36, of Essex Street, the husband of Cheryl (Beaulieu) Pierce, died suddenly Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at his home.

A lifelong resident of Salem, he was the son of Richard Pierce Sr., of Salem and Joan (Kobialka) Pierce of Portsmouth. He attended Salem public schools and Bishop Fenwick High School, Peabody, Mass.

He was employed as a machinist for the Atwood-Morrill Company of Salem for almost 20 years.

He was a member of the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America Local 279.

Surviving him in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters, Jessica Pierce, 11, and Melissa Pierce, 9, both of Salem; a brother, Richard Pierce Jr., of Groveland, Mass.; two sisters, Diane Waitte of Peabody, Mass., Wendy Rudy of San Diego, Calif.; his paternal grandmother, Ruth Friedenthal of Lynn, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

PIERCE - Scott M Pierce, 36, of Essex Street, Salem, husband of Cheryl (Beaulieu) Pierce, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000. His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday from the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Salem/Peabody line. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be frin 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Parking available in the church parking lot across the street from the funeral home.

Yvette I. (Gamache) Bergeron

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Yvette I. (Gamache) Bergeron, 63, the wife of Robert Bergeron, of 18 Columbia St., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.

She was born in Manchester on Jan. 27, 1937, the daughter of the late Roland and Marion Gamache.

She was formerly employed by the Cedars Condominiums.

She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth and was a member of the Frank E. Booma Women's Auxiliary Unit No. 6, American Legion.

She was very giving, loving and caring to her family and friends.

Besides her husband, survivors include a son, Eugene C. Bergeron of Portsmouth; a daughter, Diane Bergeron of Portsmouth; and six grandchildren, Alanna Bergeron, Heather Careno, Ryan Careno, Kevin Careno, Shenelle Letourneau and Shania Bergeron.

She was predeceased by two sons, Richard Bergeron and Ronald Bergeron, and her sister, Lorraine.

BERGERON - Mrs. Yvette I. (Gamache) Bergeron, 63, of 18 Columbia St., Portsmouth, died Dec. 16, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Church, Summer street, Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, with American Legion Women's Auxiliary services by Frank E. Booma Unit No. 6 at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted. Donations in her memory may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Emerson Donald Conrad Jr.

ELIOT, Maine - Emerson Donald Conrad Jr. died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at York Hospital.

He was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Malden, Mass., the son of the late Emerson D. and Helen (Castle) Conrad Sr.

He attended local schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal.

He worked for some time as a cabinet and furniture maker at the H.S. Sacks Co. in Brookline, Mass., and later worked for Musman Oil Co. as a mechanic. He was a dedicated and loyal employee at that company for 20 years.

He and his family moved from Lynn, Mass., to Eliot in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Carol Waitt, whom he married in Lynn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Emerson Conrad III and Edward Conrad, both of Lynn, Mass., and Edwin Danial Conrad of South Berwick; three daughters, Donna Lee Dube of Lovell, Deborah Jane Morrissey of Woburn, Mass., and Diane Jane Monks of Lynn, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, William Vernon Conrad.

CONRAD - Emerson Conrad Jr. of Eliot, Maine, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000. There will be no public visitation, and a private memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine.

Marie E. Kelley

HAMPTON - Marie E. Kelley, 76, of 857 Ocean Blvd., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., on May 20, 1924, the daughter of the late James and Margaret E. (O'Brien) McCarthy.

Raised in Lawrence, she attended St. Rita's grammar school and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School with the Class of 1943.

She worked in the hospitality industry, owning and operating Shoals View Motel at North Beach for many years with her husband.

She resided in Hampton for 40 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, a member of the Friends of St. Mary's and the Augusteen Seminary Guild, both of Lawrence. She also enjoyed her walks.

She was the wife of John J. Kelley Sr. for 48 years.

In addition to her husband, family members include one son, John J. Kelley Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Hampton; one daughter, Maribeth Martineau and her husband, Daniel, of Exeter; two sisters, Rita White and her husband, John, of Andover, Mass., and Marguerite T. McCarthy of Lawrence, Mass.; two grandchildren, Patrick Kelley and Corey Martineau; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Eileen Smith, who died in 1988.

Cedelie Levasseur

PORTSMOUTH - Cedelie Levasseur, 92, of 245 Middle St., formerly of South Street, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Langdon Place of Dover.

Born in Franklin on Feb. 2, 1908, she was the daughter of Alpide and Amanda (Lemire) DuMoulin. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1925.

A resident of Portsmouth for the past 60 years, she was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and was the last Gold Star Mother in Portsmouth.

The widow of Ernest Levasseur, who died in 1982, she is survived by a son, Richard Levasseur of Hampton Falls; two daughters, Theresa Kelleher of Laconia and Maxine Zangari of Kittery, Maine; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Levasseur of Laconia.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Levasseur, the first New Hampshire casualty of the Korean War and a recipient of the Navy Cross, the Navy's highest honor, who died in 1950; and a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Appleby.

LEVASSEUR - Cedelie Levasseur, 92, of 245 Middle St., died Dec. 16, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Summer Street, Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of New Hampshire, 20 Merrimack St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Rebecca Towle Kelso

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Rebecca Towle Kelso, 20, of 70 Brave Boat Harbor Road, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at South Church (Unitarian Universalist Church) in Portsmouth, N.H. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Rebecca Kelso Memorial Scholarship Fund at Traip Academy, Kittery, Maine.

A native of Kittery Point, she was the daughter of Michael Kelso and Bonnie Towle. She was a National Honor Society member, senior class vice president, and 1998 graduate of Traip Academy. She graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in Castine with a degree in marina management. She was to be married Jan. 6, 2001.

Survivors include her fiancé, Brock Lucenti of Castine and Montpellier, Vt.; their two dogs, Dunder and Maddy; mother and stepfather, Bonnie Towle and David Mee of Kittery Point; father, Michael Kelso and his partner, Jane Durgin, of Kittery; Jane's children, Nicholas and Carley O'Brien; sister and brother-in-law, Juliane and David Delozier, and their children, Kirsten and Zane of Anchorage, Alaska; stepsisters, Rachel, Joanna and Elissa Mee; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Irene Towle of Kittery Point; two beloved aunts, Kym Cournoyer of Portland and Tamsen Towle of Arlington, Mass.; and many dear friends.

Janet Davis Eaton

HAMPTON - Janet Davis Eaton, 66, of 4 Rosa Road, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Webster at Rye, after a brief illness.

Born in Rumford, Maine, on July 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Percy L. and Helen G. (Pratt) Davis and was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. She moved to Hampton 34 years ago, coming from Bangor, Maine.

She worked as a secretary for the Hampton school system for 10 years and then many years as a substitute secretary for the Hampton and Exeter school districts.

She participated in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts as a leader and adviser. Other interests were photography and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also a member of the Old Orchard Beach Order of Eastern Star.

She was the wife of Frank S. Eaton for 45 years.

In addition to her husband, family members include three sons, Brian J. Eaton and his wife, Bernadette, of Kingston; Matthew W. Eaton and his wife, Michele, of Brentwood; Paul D. Eaton and his wife, Beth, of Strafford; two daughters, Rhonda Wilson and her husband, John, of Amherst; and Melinda Leblanc of Exeter; two sisters, Louise House and her husband, Forrest, of East Longmeadow, Mass.; and Dorothy Witham and her husband, Ivan, of York, Maine; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

EATON - Janet Davis Eaton, 66, of 4 Rosa Road, Hampton, died Dec. 16, 2000. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Private interment will be in the Exeter Cemetery. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Bernadette E. Wojnar

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Bernadette E. Wojnar, 83, of 160 Concord Way, were held Dec. 9, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church by the Rev. Monsignor Charles Crosby. The acolyte was David Palumbo. Lector was Robert Hersey and a reading was given by Michelle Grondahl. Organist was Richard Gremlitz and soloist was Wendel Purrington.

In attendance were members of the Portsmouth School Board and a large delegation of school department employees.

Burial was in the family lot in Calvary Cemetery in Newmarket, with the Rev. John Finnigan of St. Mary Church conducting the committal.

Pallbearers were Charles DeRoy, Michael DeRoy, Marc DeRoy, Joseph De Roy, Kevin Donlon and Don Desjardins.

Burton W. Pond

HAMPTON FALLS - Burton W. Pond, 72, of 11 Weare Road, died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Exeter Hospital after being stricken ill at his home.

He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Amesbury, Mass., son of the late George W. and Natalie L. (Titcomb) Pond. He was a graduate of the Sanborn Seminary in Kingston with the Class of 1948.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the CBs in the U.S. Navy.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he worked for Beane Construction Co. of Rye and later for the former Eames Furniture Store in Hampton for several years. He retired from the Hampton Village Hardware Store in 193 with 17 years of service.

He was the husband of June N. (Rymer) Pond for 46 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include three sons, Neal A. Pond and his wife, Ellen, of Hampton Falls; Barry K. Pond and his wife, Sherrie, of Hailey, Idaho; and Larry G. Pond and his wife, Lorna, of Exeter; one sister, Sandra L. Peterson of Laguna, Calif.; five grandchildren, Andie, Maverick, Tiffani, Gregory and Benjamin; and two nephews.

POND - Burton W. Pond, 72, of 11 Weare Road, Hampton Falls, died Dec. 16, 2000. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Hampton Falls. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. the family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 3 Lincoln Ave., Hampton Falls, NH 03844; or to a charity of one's choice.

Gerald E. Sinclair

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Gerald E. Sinclair, 83, of 22 Central Ave., were held on Saturday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel. The Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of the Cavalry Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

Words of remembrance were given by Mr. Sinclair's daughter, Sandy Lukas.

Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, in the spring.

Richard P. Remick

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Richard P. Remick, 53, of 326 Brackett Road, Rye, were held Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel. The Rev. Dawn Shippee, pastor of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

In attendance were representatives from Great Bay Services and Training Center and Options.

Burial was in Central Cemetery in Rye, with committal services by the Rev. Shippee.

Bearers were Brett Remick, Tex Hansen, Perry Trefethen, Philip Miles, Wayne Richard and Paul Rainboth.

Donald C. Woodworth

KITTERY, Maine - Donald C. Woodworth, 80, of Dana Avenue, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his home.

Born March 2, 1920, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., he was the son of Lyle S. and Doris Bowden Woodworth. He attended local schools and graduated from St. Johnsbury High School.

He served his country in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of supply sergeant. After his military duty ended, he and his wife moved to Kittery and raised their family.

He was active in Masonic service as a member of Naval Lodge No. 184 of Kittery, Kora Temple Shrine, York County Shrine Club and Portsmouth (N.H.) Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Dover, N.H., American Legion.

In addition to his wife of more than 50 years, Katharine King Woodworth, survivors include two sons, Lane S. Woodworth of Barnstead, N.H., and Charles "Mace" Woodworth of Kittery; a sister, Shirley Renner of Dover; a brother, Dale Tildon of Milton, N.H.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

WOODWORTH - Donald C. Woodworth, 80, of Dana Avenue, Kittery, Maine, died Dec. 16, 2000, at his home. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, from the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/ U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, ME 03904.

Carla Marie Apgar

YORK, Maine - Carla Marie Apgar, 57, of 213 Scituate Road, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born in Stoneham, Mass., on Sept. 29, 1943, she was the daughter of William F. and Marjorie Pratt.

She had been fighting a medical illness for a long period of time. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Glenn Apgar of York; three daughters, Sharon Marie Gosselin of North Hampton, N.H., Lisa Tragiou of Lucerne, Calif., and Karen Lee Gosselin of Wells; a son, Sean Eric Apgar of Portland; a sister, Melanie McGrail of Lowell, Mass.; a brother, Bruce Pratt of Dracut, Mass.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

APGAR - Carla M. Apgar of Scituate Road, York, Maine, died Dec. 14, 2000, in York. Funeral services will be private. Public graveside services will be held in the spring in First Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the York Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 238, York, ME 03909. Arrangements by the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.
