Ralph V. Brown

EXETER - Ralph V. Brown, 78, of Camelot Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at SunBridge Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, son of the late George and Edith (Hammon) Brown.

He grew up in Watertown, Mass., and graduated from the local high school.

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.

Ralph was a resident of Exeter for the past 1½ years; before that he lived in Rye for 25 years and in Cambridge, Mass., for 50 years.

He was a lieutenant in the Massachusetts State Police Department, and retired 28 years ago.

He was a former member of the Park Street Church in Boston.

At the time of his death he was attending the First Baptist Church of Exeter.

He was active in the Portsmouth chapter of the Barber Shop Quartet (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.).

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion (Harnish) Brown of Exeter; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Ron Duffy of Exeter, and Susan and Bruce Howell of Needham, Mass.; one son and his wife, Peter and Pam Brown of Nantucket, Mass.; five grandchildren, Adam, Vanessa, Dynah, Heather and Jen; one sister, Rose Waldman of Dover; one twin sister and her husband, Ruth and George Harris of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

BROWN - Ralph V. Brown, 78, of Camelot Drive, Exeter, died Nov. 29, 2000.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the First Baptist Church of Exeter.

The Rev. Moynihan will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to the First Baptist Church of Exeter, 2 Spring St., Exeter, NH 03833; or the Exeter Congregational Church, 21 Front St., Exeter, NH 03833.

Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, is handling the arrangements.

Lyndon F. Connolly

KITTERY, Maine - Lyndon F. Connolly died Nov. 28, 2000, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

He was born in Portland, a twin son of Christopher and Florence Harris Connolly.

He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1947.

He immediately entered the Air Force, and was stationed in England.

After leaving the service in 1956, he went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1995.

Surviving are a son, William A. Brassard of Westbrook; twin brother, Leo C. Connolly of Falls Church, Va.; a granddaughter, Kristine A. Brassard; and a nephew, Mark P. Connolly.

A funeral service will be private at the family's request.

Arrangements are by Blais Funeral Home, Westbrook.

Douglas Leighon Keys Jr.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - Douglas Leighon Keys Jr., 83, of 875 Lake Park Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home.

Born Sept. 26, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late Douglas L. and Marion (Philbrick) Keys.

Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and received a bachelor of science degree in physics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, now Polytechnic Institute of New York.

He was employed by the Sperry Gyroscope Co. during World War II as an instruction supervisor, training military personnel in the use and maintenance of anti-aircraft weapons.

After the war he joined the advertising firm of Kenyon and Eckhart, where he handled such accounts as Lincoln-Mercury, Shell Oil and Ford.

His advertising career took him to Michigan then briefly to Connecticut and back to Michigan in 1958, which remained his home for the rest of his life.

He became vice president of the company in 1956.

Poor health forced an early retirement in the '70s but allowed more time every summer in his beloved Rye where he had spent childhood summers at the "beach" home, built by his grandfather at the corner of Cable Road and Ocean Boulevard.

He would return to vacation at the Rye Beach house every summer of his life until his health finally made that impossible this year.

He was the husband of Margaret (Yoder) Keys for 56 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include three sons, Richard R. Keys of Lawrenceville, Ga., Rodman B. Keys of Waterford, Mich., and Andrew P. Keys of Redford, Mich.; five grandchildren; one sister, Natalie Cummings of Sarasota, Fla.; and two nephews.

KEYS - Douglas Leighon Keys Jr., of Michigan, died Nov. 29, 2000.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Central Cemetery in Rye.

Friends are respectfully invited.

Albert J. Woodward Jr.

KITTERY, Maine - Albert J. Woodward Jr., 54, of 17 Island Ave., died suddenly at York Hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000.

Born March 7, 1946, in Ithica, N.Y., he was the son of Albert F. and Margaret M. Manning Woodward.

He attended local schools until the age of 16 when his family moved to Kittery, where he attended and graduated from R.W. Traip Academy with the Class of 1964.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country at the Bay of Pigs and in many other countries.

During the Vietnam War he received recognition for his service on the USS Nanhallia and for his part in returning the USS Forestall after its tragic fire.

He enjoyed his favorite pastime of baseball, especially the New York Yankees.

He also enjoyed volunteering in the past as a Little League coach and enjoyed the game of golf.

He had a tremendous love for animals, both his own and his adopted ones.

He enjoyed watching his pets bring others joy, both at the hospital and at his home.

He was a fan of John Wayne, displaying his vast collection of memorabilia in his own John Wayne Museum at home.

His love of his family was his first and most noticeable.

He enjoyed hearing about and seeing his many nieces and nephews enjoy their activities.

He was a member and past commander of the Emerson Hovey Post No. 168 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Newington; the Ramsdell-Rogers Post No. 56 of the American Legion in York, where he enjoyed the visits and memories of his loyal friends; and a past member for 34 years of the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 of the American Legion in Portsmouth.

Besides the many people he touched on a daily basis and the friends he seemed to make everyday, he is survived by his parents of Kittery, Albert and Margaret Woodward; his brother, Thomas Woodward and his wife, Elizabeth, of Kingsland, Ga.; his two sisters and their husbands, Susan and Joseph Isley of Kittery and Mary-Elizabeth and Gary Catapano of Long Island, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, David Woodward in 1993.

WOODWARD - Albert J. Woodward Jr., 54, of Island Avenue, Kittery, Maine, died Nov. 29, 2000.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Raphael Church in Kittery.

Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery.

Memorial donations may be made to the organization of one's choosing.
