Walter F. Daly II

HAMPTON - Walter F. "Doc" Daly II, 40, of 16 Island Path, No. 1, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000 in Hampton, after being struck by a passing vehicle while he was crossing the road.

Born Jan. 26, 1960, in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of John G. Daly of Orange, Mass., and Patricia (Rooker) Dick of Midwest City, Okla.

He was raised in Worcester, Mass., and was a graduate of Doherty High School, Worcester, class of 1978.

He worked as the executive chef at the Petroleum Club in Liberal, Kan. for several years and prior to this as the assistant chef at the Worcester Club, in Worcester. More recently he was working as a chef at Hampton Beach.

He had resided in Hampton the past six years coming from Liberal, Kan.

In addition to his parents, family members include his wife, Cheryl F. (Shoemake) Daly of Hampton; two sons, Charles J. Daly and Walter Daly III; one daughter, April G. Daly, all of Hampton; two brothers, John G. Daly Jr. of Worcester, Mass., and Carl P. Daly of Orange, Mass.; one sister, Theresa Saavedra of Visalia, Calif.; one aunt and nieces and nephews.

DALY - Walter F. "Doc" Daly II, 40, of 16 Island Path, Hampton, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 88 Lafayette Road (US Route 1) Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there be no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the family in their time of need.

William A. Locke

PORTSMOUTH - Mr. William A. Locke, 58, of 659 Dennett St., died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1941, in Kittery, he was the son of Leslie Locke of Portsmouth and the late Shirley May (McKenney) Locke. He attended Portsmouth schools.

Prior to his retirement, he was self-employed as a painting contractor.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the company of his family and all his friends.

Besides his father of Portsmouth, survivors include five children, Donna Cash of Portsmouth, Greg Locke of Portsmouth, Ronda Cash of Kittery, Sherry O'Hare of Biddeford, and Julie Locke of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren; siblings, Leslie Locke, Richard Locke, Gerald Locke, Raymond Locke, Timothy Locke, and Patricia Desjardins all of Portsmouth, Robert Locke of Kittery, Shirley Rollins of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

LOCKE - Mr. William A. Locke, 58, of 659 Dennett St., Portsmouth, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m., today. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Ruth M. Durgin

KITTERY - Ruth M. (Wortman) Durgin, 74, widow of Franklin P. Durgin, of 26 Cromwell St., died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at the Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center, Dover.

Born Aug. 4, 1926, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Harry H. and Edna R. (Thompson) Wortman.

She grew up in Portsmouth and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1945.

Survivors include three daughters, Diane Gootee and her husband, Mark, of Kittery, Elaine Sorrell and her husband, Tony, of Naples, Fla., and Kathleen Magoon and her husband, Tobey, of Portsmouth; three sons, Franklin P. Durgin III, and his wife, Barbara, of Mutchen, N.J., Harry Durgin of Portsmouth, and Robert Durgin and his wife, Claudine, of Kittery; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Jane Herzog, Beulah Addorio and her husband, Joseph, and Alberta Healy, all of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

DURGIN - Ruth M. (Wortman) Durgin, 74 of 26 Cromwell St., Kittery, died Sept. 9, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, at the Chapel. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St. Manchester, NH 03101. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

William D. Tierney

HAMPTON - William D. Tierney, 72, of 81 Dunvegan Woods, died Friday, Sept. 8 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Oct. 10, 1927, in Swampscott, Mass., he was the son of the late Daniel and Florence (Hughes) Tierney.

He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Mass., Class of 1945, and attended Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

He retired from New England Electric System, Massachusetts Electric, in 1988 as a head lineman with 42 years of service.

He lived in Methuen, Mass., for 35 years, and moved to Hampton in 1986. He summered in Hampton from 1972 to the time he moved there, and had wintered in Marco Island, Fla., since 1989.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and was previously a communicant of St. Augustine Church in Lawrence, Mass. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at both churches, treasurer of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Augustine for 28 years; member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 67 of Lawrence, Hampton's American Legion Post No. 35, and the IBEW Local 326 of Lawrence.

He was the husband of Claire (Legere) Tierney for 50 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, William D. Tierney and his wife, Shirley, of Townsend, Mass.; one daughter, Christine C. Blake and her husband, Lary, of Amesbury, Mass.; and one granddaughter, Jessica A. Blake of Amesbury.

TIERNEY - William D. Tierney, 72, of 81 Dunvegan Woods, Hampton, died Sept. 8, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Sacred Heart Building Fund, both at 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH 03842.

Eunice L. Dalton

NORTH HAMPTON - Eunice L. Dalton, 91, of 3 Exeter Road, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.

Born June 4, 1909, in Hampton Falls, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary F. (Knowles) Brown.

A homemaker, she lived for many years in North Hampton and attended schools in Hampton and Rye.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was the wife of the late Harrison W. Dalton, who died in 1994.

Family members include her daughter, Marjorie M. Mulcahy and her husband, Ronald J., of North Hampton; four grandchildren, Terry Harrington, Ann Beaudry, Lorraine Jacobs and Sandra Clouthier; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by a son, Carl H. Dalton, and by her brothers and sisters.

DALTON - Eunice L. Dalton of 3 Exeter Road, North Hampton, died Sept. 7, 2000. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the North Hampton Fireman's Association, P.O. Box 606, North Hampton, NH 03862-0606.

James W. Porter

CONCORD - James W. Porter, 42, of South State Street, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Hospice House, after a long battle with cancer.

Born on March 21, 1958, in Newport, R.I., he was the son of John and Marjorie Ann (Fish) Porter.

He was a 1976 graduate of Winnacunnet High School, where he played hockey.

He loved to ride his bike. He also loved skiing and hockey. He was an avid collector of Lionel trains.

Family members include his mother, Marjorie A. Porter of Kittery; maternal grandmother, Doris May Fish of Seabrook; one sister, Diane R. Deprey of Alabama; two nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Lt. John J. Porter, and a brother, John Jay Porter.

PORTER - James W. Porter, 42, of South State Street, Concord, died Sept. 7, 2000. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riverbend Pillar House, 1 North State St., Concord. Following the service, family and friends are invited for collation gathering at Riverbend Pillar House. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St., Concord, NH 03301; or Riverbend Community Mental Health, P.O. Box 2032, Concord, NH 03302. Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.

Kevin R. Barry

NEWMARKET - Kevin R. Barry, 57, of Fieldstone Estates, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at his home after a brief illness.

Born March 1, 1943, in Boston, he was the son of John and Irene (Bragan) Barry. He lived in Farmington for 18 years before moving to Newmarket six years ago.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, Germany, from 1962-65. During his military service, he received several medals, including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Expert (Rifle M-14), and Army of Occupational Medal (Berlin).

He was retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard with more than 25 years of employment, and formerly worked in the sheet metal shop.

He was a charter member of the Farmington Lions Club. He was also a longtime member of the Farmington 500 Boys Club and had served as a treasurer, coach and volunteer.

He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Exeter.

He was the husband of Margaret (Jardullo) Barry of Newmarket for 32 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Christine Hobson of Dover; a son, Paul M. Barry of Newmarket; a sister, Anne Maguire of Quincy, Mass.; a brother, William Barry of San Diego; and several nieces and nephews.

BARRY - Kevin R. Barry, 57, of Fieldstone Estates, Newmarket, died Sept. 8, 2000, at his home. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St. (Route 108), Newmarket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Michael's Church in Exeter, at the corner of Front and Lincoln streets. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 State Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110; or the New Hampshire Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110.

Thomas W. Ceberek Jr.

HAMPTON - Services for Thomas W. Ceberek Jr., of 311 Mill Road, were held Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton. Many of Thomas' friends rode in procession on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles in tribute to their fallen friend.

The Rev. Dr. Kenneth G. Lawrence, pastor at First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls, officiated.

Ellen Parent was organist. Words of remembrance were offered by Thomas' wife, Deb. Cremation followed in the Phoenix Crematory, Hampton.

Lorion H. McLane

HAMPTON - Lorion H. McLane, 67, of 7 Gray Ave., died, Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000 at Exeter Hospital.

Born in Exeter on Nov. 1, 1932, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Marion (Bertrand) McLane.

He lived in Hampton for most of his life and was a graduate of Hampton Academy. With his parents, he owned and operated McLane Manor of Exeter.

He was a veteran of the Air Force serving during the Korean War.

He was the husband of Flora A. (Schrawyer) McLane for 48 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include two sons, Marcus McLane of Exeter and Rick J. McLane of Brentwood; one daughter, Marie Candela of Windham, N.H.; two sisters, Bette Pray of Hampton and Myrna McLane of Hampton; several nieces and nephews.

MCLANE - Lorion H. McLane, 67, of 7 Gray Ave., Hampton, died Sept. 7, 2000. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory on 811 Lafayette Road in Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be at High Street Cemetery, Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford, N.H. 03110.

Judith Irene Quinn

LEBANON, Maine - Judith Irene (Manson) Quinn, 47, of Lebanon, died following a long illness at Frisbie Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Delwyn Manson and Dorothy (Spinney) Manson, of Eliot.

She grew up in Eliot and attended Eliot schools. She worked 15 years for the A.S.M.E. company of Portsmouth.

She was married for 26 years to James Quinn. They were married in Farmington in 1974.

She was a devoted mother and housewife, who enjoyed life, was fun-loving, and cared very much for her friends and family. She loved craft-working and made crafts and decorations during the holiday seasons.

Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by her son, Ryan, of Lebanon; two daughters, Mrs. Heather Quinn Sanfacon and her husband, Joseph, of Rollinsford, and Taryn of Lebanon; a sister, Mrs. Joyce Mosher of Farmington. She was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Allyson Sanfacon, who died in 1999.

QUINN - Mrs. Judith (Manson) Quinn, 47, of Lebanon, ME, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. The Rev. David Avery, of the First Congregational Church of Eliot, will officiate. A private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011-2194.

Joseph Francis Marconi

PORTSMOUTH - Joseph Francis Marconi, 74, of 28 New Castle Ave., died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born June 8, 1926, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Vincenzo and Annetta (Yates) Marconi, attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth.

He served in World War II with the Navy SeaBees.

He was a lobster fisherman his entire life, beginning at age 14. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Marconi's Market on South Street for 22 years.

He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Warwick Club, the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks and the Sons of Italy.

He was the husband of Toni (Carville) Marconi for 54 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters, Nancy Marconi Lemos, Mary Ann Routhier and her husband, Butch, Shirley-Jo Marconi, and Annetta Marconi, all of Portsmouth; a brother, William Marconi of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Cindy Marconi, Aaron Joseph Marconi, Jason Joseph Lemos, Jared Joseph Lemos and Ryan Joseph Marconi; a great-granddaughter, Mariah Marconi; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Hugo, Florendo, Babe, and Geno Marconi; two sisters, Rose Yuhas, and Mary Prien, and a grandson, Christopher Joseph.

MARCONI - Joseph Francis Marconi, 74, of 28 New Castle Ave., Portsmouth, died Sept. 6, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Visiting hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St. Burial in Calvery Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Boston Children's Hospital, Attn.: Children's Hospital Trust, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
