Leavitt E. Moulton

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Leavitt E. Moulton, 89, of 56 Nimble Hill Road, Newington, were held Tuesday at Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth. The Rev. John Filler, pastor of the Newington Congregational Town Church, officiated. A prayer was offered by Mr. Moulton's daughter, Suzanne M. Russell.

In attendance were representatives from the Newington Town Offices; representatives from the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Portsmouth and Dover; N.H. Consistory 32 degree of Nashua; Bektash Temple Shrine of Concord; Shrine Club; and the Jesters.

Burial was in Little River Cemetery, in North Hampton.

Mabel H. Tillinghast

NORTH HAMPTON - Mabel H. Tillinghast, 74, of 77 Exeter Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Born Sept. 10, 1925, in White Plains, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. X. and Florence M. (Buckbee) Healy.

She attended White Plains schools and lived 30 years in Bronxville, N.Y., before moving to North Hampton in 1979.

Always an avid gardener, she was a founding member of the Boulder Lodge Garden Club in Bronxville. She was also a member of the Driftwood Garden Club of Rye, and a member of the Little Boars Head Garden Club of North Hampton.

She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in North Hampton.

She was the adored and devoted wife of John A. Tillinghast for 52 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Katherine T. Brickley and her husband, John, of Hampton, Susan T. Trainor and her husband, John, of Rye, and Abigail T. Ryan and her husband, Sidney, of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren, Christopher and Steven Ryan, Kathleen and John Trainor, and Sarah Brickley; and one great-grandchild, Shawn Ryan.

TILLINGHAST - Mabel H. Tillinghast, 74, of 77 Exeter Road, North Hampton, died Sept. 5, 2000. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the North Hampton Library Fund, Atlantic Avenue, North Hampton, NH, 03862.

John P. Collins

KITTERY - John P. Collins, 53, of 160 Manson Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 19, 1946 in Cambridge, Mass., he was the son of Stephen T. and Deolinda R. (Cortez) Collins.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army, a career member, he served in the U.S. and overseas. During his 21-year career, he was a cannon crew member and a Pershing Missile crew member, retiring in 1990 as a staff sergeant.

He was married to his beloved wife of more than 30 years, Linda (Laham) Collins of Kittery.

After retirement from the military, he worked for the Kittery School Department as a custodian assigned to the Shapleigh Middle School, a job he truly loved.

He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Lisa Collins of Saco, Melinda Collins of Old Orchard, and Joanne Collins of Saco; two brothers, Stephen and his wife, Joyce Collins, of Highland, Calif., and George and his wife, Joy Collins, of Chelmsford, Mass.; three grandchildren, Brandon Sheehan, Jeffrey White, and Michael Melancon.

COLLINS - John P. Collins, 53, of 160 Manson Ave., Kittery, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, in Orchard Grove Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Collins Memorial Fund, c/o Heather Geraci, Service Credit Union, Pease branch, 18 Manchester Square, Portsmouth, N.H. 03801. Arrangements by the J.S Pelkey Funeral Home.

Thomas W. Ceberek Jr.

HAMPTON - Thomas W. Ceberek Jr., 31, of 311 Mill Road, died early Saturday, September 2, 2000, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in North Hampton.

Born in Portsmouth, on July 18, 1969, he was the son of Thomas W. and Linda (Ward) Ceberek.

A Hampton resident for most of his life, he attended Winnacunnet High School. He worked for Foss Manufacturing Co., in Hampton for the past eight years as an extruder operator.

He was an avid motorcyclist. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group.

He was the husband of Deb Cunningham.

In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his daughter, Kristin Ceberek of New Hampshire; his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Anne Harders of Ocala, Fla.; several aunts and uncles.

CEBEREK - Thomas W. Ceberek Jr., 31, of 311 Mill Road, Hampton, died Saturday, September 2, 2000. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.

John A. Hunter Jr.

WINTER PARK, Fla. - John A. Hunter Jr., M.D., 84, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, after a long illness.

Born May 28, 1916, in Burlington, Vt., he was the son of John A. and Mary (Bates) Hunter. He practiced as an orthopedic surgeon in Portsmouth for 23 years. He was a past president of the New Hampshire Medical Society, chief of staff of Portsmouth Hospital and was instrumental in the founding of the Portsmouth Rehabilitation Center.

He was a graduate of Vermont Medical School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the European theater. During his service he helped liberate the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. He served with distinction on the front lines and was honorably discharged with the rank of colonel. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Winter Park, Fla.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Florence Starkey Hunter, and by his sister, Jane Hunter Macalaster.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol H. Thomas and her husband, Joseph G. Thomas, of Fort Washington, Md.; Susan Hunter Silverman and her husband, Larry J. Silverman, of Takoma Park, Md.; and by a son, John A. Hunter III, and his wife, Constance M. Hunter, of Haddam, Conn.; six grandchildren; two nieces; and a brother, David B. Hunter, of Fort Myers, Fla.

Helen M. MacNeil

YORK - Helen M. MacNeil, 88, formerly of Yorkshire Commons, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in Harbor Home, after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 25, 1912 in Bangor, and was a 1934 graduate of Lesley College, Cambridge, receiving a bachelor's degree in teaching.

She had resided in Malden and Boston for many years.

She had taught kindergarten at Arlington Public Schools. She had been director of the Purpose School at First Congregational Church in Stoneham from 1957 to 1966. From 1966 to 1973 she was the residence director at Northeastern University in Boston. From 1973 to 1976, she was a house mother and residence director at the Deaconess School of Nursing and the Katharine Gibbs School from 1976 to 1979. From 1979 to 1984 she was the residence director at the YWCA in Malden.

For six years she participated in the Grandparent Program at York Village Elementary School.

In May of 1997, she was chosen to represent York as the State of Maine Volunteer of the Year and was honored by Gov. Angus King.

She enjoyed all of her volunteer work as well as quilting, making ceramics and walking.

She moved here from Malden and Boston more than 14 years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, George E. MacNeil Jr., who died in 1953. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Theldon, Lauren and Walter E. Phinney Jr. and by a sister, Ruth Adams.

Survivors include one son, Robert E. MacNeil of Reading, Mass. and York Beach; two daughters, Judith A. MacNeil of Nashua, and Mrs. Arthur (Joyce E.) Senior of Bethpage, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

MACNEIL - Helen M. MacNeil, 88, formerly of Yorkshire Commons, York, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, in the First Parish Congregational Church of York Private burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, Mass. The family requests that memorial donations may be made to children's programs at First Parish Church, 180 York St., York, ME 03909. Arrangements by the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Esther A. Millar

BARRINGTON, R.I., - Esther A. (Bischoff) Millar, 90, of Chachapassett Road, died Aug. 28, 2000, at her daughter's home in West Ossipee following a long battle with cancer.

Born July 10, 1910 in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Frederick A. and Elizabeth Jane (McCandless) Bischoff, and lived in Bristol, R.I., before moving to Barrington, where she spent most of her life.

She had been employed as a cook with the Barrington School Lunch Program for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Martha Washington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, No. 18, Warren, R.I. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a member of the Barrington Senior Citizens Group.

She was the wife of the late John "Scotty" Millar.

She is survived by her son, John G. Millar of Auburn, Mass.; two daughters, Jane E. Wass of Wolfeboro and Barbara L. Ames of North Stonington, Conn.; five grandchildren, Laurie Tupper of West Ossipee, Heather Wass of Dover, Maj. Glen Wass of Stratham, Kristen Kane of Jefferson, Mass., and Carrie Tache of East Brookfield, Mass.; two great-granddaughters, Kelly Wass and Katherine Bush; two sisters, Claire Berndt of Cranston, R.I., and Gloria Cilley, of Warwick, R.I.

She was predeceased by three brothers, George Bischoff, Adolph Bischoff and William Bischoff; by three sisters, Elizabeth Marchant, Dorothy Shein and Louise Clark; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Wass.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Barrington, R.I. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Fred M. Shaw

SCARBOROUGH - Fred M. Shaw, 68, of Holmes Road, died Monday, September 4, 2000, at his residence.

Born in Sanford, he was the son of Fred Lewis and Delvina Perreault Shaw, and attended schools in Portsmouth. He had worked for Shaw's supermarkets for 35 years, retiring in 1991 as corporate meat director.

He attended the Scarborough Free Baptist Church, enjoyed automobiles and traveling to Las Vegas. He served with the Navy during the Korean conflict for four years in submarine duty.

He was the husband of Rebecca Tedford Shaw of Scarborough.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Valerie Cartonio of Old Orchard Beach, two sisters, Elsie Hall of Dover, and Doreen Gross of York; three grandchildren, Brock, Michael and Trianna.

SHAW - Fred M. Shaw, 68, of Holmes Road, Scarborough, ME, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000. A visiting hour will be held 10-11 a.m., Thursday, , followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. from the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 632 US Route 1. The Rev. Philip Gage will officiate. Burial will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.

Doris C. Aldrich

CAPE NEDDICK - Doris C. Aldrich, 99, of Pine Hill Road, Cape Neddick, died Sunday, September 3, 2000, at Harbor Home in York Harbor.

Born July 5, 1901, in Enfield, Mass., she was the daughter of Herbert and Mabel Hardy Campbell.

She was a member of the Ogunquit Baptist Church.

Mrs. Aldrich and her husband had been proprietors of several restaurants in Ogunquit. Her husband, Walter Aldrich, died in 1966.

She is survived by three sons, Walter S. Aldrich Jr., and his wife, Rosetta of Hadley, Mass., Raymond C. Aldrich and his wife Beverly of Amherst, Mass., and Donald B. Aldrich and his wife, Shirley of Belchertown, Mass.; a daughter, Joan A. Yorke and her husband George of Cape Neddick; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

ALDRICH - Doris C. Aldrich, age 99, of Cape Neddick, Maine, died Sept. 3. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in Pelham Valley Cemetery, Pelham, Mass. Friends who wish may make contributions to the United Methodist Church of York and Ogunquit, PO Box 426, York, ME 03909, or to the charity of one's choice.

Rita M. Heeney

KITTERY - Rita M. Heeney, 80, of 89 Philbrick Ave., died Monday, September 4, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Dec. 27, 1919, in Biddeford, Maine, she was a daughter of Albert and Yvonne (Roy) Madore and attended local schools.

She was the wife of the late Robert B. Heeney and resided in her home in Kittery for more than 59 years, raising her family as a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Linda and William Rose of Ohio, Sheila and Floyd Palm of Kittery and Eileen and Fred Babcock of Connecticut; a son and his wife, James and Jayne Heeney of Kittery; two sisters in law, Inez Heeney of Kittery and Hilda Thornhill of Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased in 1995 by a son, Robert Heeney, and her brother, Dutch Madore.,

HEENEY - Rita M. 80, of 89 Philbrick Ave., Kittery, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Sea Point Beach in Kittery Point. Donations may be made in her memory to Pine Tree Society, 197 Lancaster St., Portland ME 04101. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904

Francis M. Kelley Jr.

HAMPTON - Private funeral services were held Sunday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, for Francis M. Kelley Jr., 78, of 40 Dearborn Ave., who died Friday, September 1, 2000, at the Seacoast Health Center Inc.

Burial was in the High Street Cemetery.

Mr. Kelley was born on March 2, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Francis M. and Ann (Kilgore) Kelley. A 1945 graduate of Haverhill High School, he had resided in Hampton for the last 33 years, coming from Merrimac, Mass.

He was an equipment installer for New Engand Telephone and NYNEX working out of the Haverhill, Andover and Boston offices. He retired in 1989 after 35 years of service.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Portsmouth Lodge of Moose No. 444, the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks No. 97, and the American Legion Post No. 35 of Hampton. Also, he was a member and supporter of the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

He was the husband of Shirley (Timson) Kelley.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, family members include a son, Thomas J. Kelley of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Catherine A. Kelley of Harpswell, Maine and Nancy J. Kelley of Sarasota; six grandchildren; Benjamin, Evan, Kelley, Casey, Sherry and Jill. He is also survived by a stepson, Steve Moul of Dallas; a stepdaughter, Linda Lebrecht and her husband Roger of North Hampton; a niece and two nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter Joan Kelley and a brother Jim Kelley.
