William Lloyd Norrish

MILTON, N.H. - William Lloyd Norrish, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at his home in Milton.

Born Nov. 8, 1920, in Watertown, Mass., he was the son of William Ishmael Norrish and Mary Richardson Norrish.

He was a member of the Watertown High School Class of 1938.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946 in the Philippines and Japan.

He was a member of the Masonic Temple.

For more than 50 years he was involved in the automobile business, working as salesman, service manager, dealership owner and finance manager.

He was the husband of the late Virginia Lee Norrish, who died in 1997, for 55 years.

Survivors include four sons, the eldest, William L. Norrish Jr. of New Seabury, Mass., John Everett Norrish of Milton, Paul Christopher Norrish of Milton, and Stephen Earl Norrish of Sanford, Maine; a daughter, Linda Lee Franklin of Rosewell, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be scheduled at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Great Bay School.

Rolf "Dutchie" Carlson

HAMPTON - Rolf "Dutchie" Carlson, 64, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his beach house, surrounded by his family.

Born in Boston, he moved to North Andover, Mass., at a very young age. He graduated from Johnson High in 1954 and took over the North Andover restaurant "Rolf's" in the early '60s. He owned and managed the restaurant until his retirement in May 2000.

Survivors include four granddaughters, Lynne Carlson of Newburyport, Mass., Timra Carlson and her husband, Rich Ratcliff, of Long Island, N.Y., Christy Carlson of Springfield, N.H., and Lesley Carlson of Kensington, N.H.; his former wife, Louise (Darveau) Carlson of North Andover; and several family members in Sweden.

CARLSON - Rolf "Dutchie" Carlson, 64, of Andover, Mass., and Hampton, N.H., died Sept. 3, 2000. Family and friends are invited to call 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Conte and Dewhirst Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover, Mass.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 462 Boston St., Suite 7, Topsfield, MA 01983.

LeRoy Emile Bolduc

BOLDUC - LeRoy Emile Bolduc, 62, of 5 Gove Lane, Salisbury, Mass., formerly of Hampton, died Sept. 2, 2000. Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, Mass., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Star of the Sea Church, Beach Road, Salisbury. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newburyport, Mass. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Tumor Center, c/o Massachusetts General Hospital, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114. SALISBURY, Mass. - LeRoy Emile Bolduc, 62, of 5 Gove Lane, formerly of Hampton, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the Shaughnessy Rehab Hospital in Salem, Mass.

Born Jan. 31, 1938, in Newburyport, Mass., he was the son of Agnes (Daigle) Bolduc of Amesbury, Mass., and the late John Bolduc. He was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1957.

He was a barber by profession and the owner of the Depot Barber Shop in Hampton.

He was an antique car enthusiast.

He was the former husband of Shirley A. (Votta) Bolduc.

In addition to his mother and former wife, survivors include his longtime friend, Suzanne Casey of Plum Island, Mass.; one son, Keith A. Bolduc of Seabrook; two daughters, Lori Lynne Bolduc of Salisbury and Sherri Ann Maguire and her husband, Alan, of Newburyport; two grandsons, Christopher A. and Ryan L. Maguire of Newburyport; two brothers, Daniel Bolduc of Salisbury and Paul Bolduc of Amesbury; three sisters, Rita Belletete of Salisbury, Rose Downs of Georgetown, Mass., and Rena Marshall of Seabrook; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Alphonse Bolduc.

Herbert O. Goodwin

KITTERY - A graveside committal service and burial, under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home of Kittery, for Herbert O. Goodwin, who died Feb. 26, 2000, in Portsmouth, was held Saturday, in Orchard Grove Cemetery in Kittery.

The Rev. Nelson Howard, pastor of the Second Christian Congregational Church of Kittery, officiated. Military honors were provided by a color guard from the Portsmouth Post No. 6 American Legion. Color guard members were Dan Yoder, Eugene Bragg, Karyl Horn, Paul Hollingsworth and Patty Belleville. Family members and friends offered words of remembrance.

George W. Dow

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for George W. Dow, 93, of 928 South St., were held Friday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. The Rev. Vivan Martindale, pastor of the Middle Street Baptist Church, officiated.

In attendance were members of the Middle Street Baptist Church.

Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Martindale.

Bearers were Charles W. Dow Jr., Louis L. Dow Jr., Michael Dow, Larry Collins, Ralph Collins, Greg Witham, John Ricci and Jim Weiner.

Roxanne K. Ashton

LEBANON, Maine - Roxanne K. Ashton died Aug. 25, 2000, of the disease ALS, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine. She was the daughter of Kathleen Overlock and Arthur Ashton Sr. She was a loving mother, sister, daughter and friend.

Family members include her daughter, Rhonda Owens of Bath, Maine; a son, James de Vries, of Ossipee; a sister, Janet Hay of Lebanon, Maine; brothers, Arthur, Charles and Cleveland Ashton, all of Wiscasset, Maine, Marc Ashton of Boothbay, Maine; and Edward Ashton of Concord, N.H.; seven grandchildren; three stepsisters, Gloria Gustufson of York, Carol Guertin of Holden, Mass., and Diane Overlock of Corrina, Maine; four stepbrothers, Lawrence Overlock of Concord, Maynard Overlock of Bath, Earl Overlock and Carl Overlock, both of Wiscasset, Maine.

ASHTON - Roxanne K. Ashton died Aug. 25, 2000. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath, Maine. If desired, contributions may be made to the M.D.A. Association for ALS.

Eleni C. Notis

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - Eleni C. Notis, 90, of Goudy Street, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at a Cape Elizabeth nursing home.

Born in Politsiani, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Philip A. and Marina Kappa Christou.

Her beloved husband, the late Philip A. Notis, came to the United States in 1922. She later was reunited with him after World War II with her two children when she emigrated to South Portland in 1946.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland.

She loved to cook, crochet and knit for her family.

Surviving is her daughter, Amalia Notis Kalyvas, and her son, Anthony P. (Tony) Notis, both of South Portland; five grandchildren, Athena Kalyvas Efessiou of Wellesley, Mass.; Nancy E. Notis of Portsmouth; Eleni K. Condakes of Weston, Mass.; Philip A. Notis and Alexander C. Notis, both of South Portland; and five great-grandchildren.

NOTIS - Eleni C. Notis, 90, of Goudy Street, South Portland, Maine, died Aug. 31, 2000. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Trisagion services will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Pleasant St., Portland. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in South Portland. Contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 133 Pleasant St., Portland, ME 04101.

Walter J. Brock

DOVER - Walter J. (Jack) Brock, 64, of Silver Street, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at his residence, after bravely battling cancer.

Born Sept. 29, 1935, in Dover, he was the son of Charles and Verna (Roberts) Brock.

A lifetime Dover resident, he graduated from Dover High School, Class of 1953. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He was employed as a PBX installer with Nynex for 40 years in the Portsmouth, Greenland and Somersworth offices, retiring in 1994.

'Jack' was an avid fly fisherman and was active in many local fishing organizations. He was a past president of the Hackle & Tackle Club and a member of Trout Unlimited. He was also a member of the Moses Paul Lodge F & A.M. Dover.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara (Call) Brock of Dover; two sons, John Brock and his wife, Heather, of Dover, and Stephen Brock and his wife, Selena, of Sanford; one sister, Connie and her husband, Larry Harr, of Sandwich, Ill.; and many adoring grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

BROCK - Walter J. (Jack) Brock, 64, of Silver Street, Dover, died Aug. 31, 2000. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Parish Church, Congregational, with the Rev. James Pirie, associate pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Squamscott Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care Association, 113 New Rochester Road, Dover, NH 03820.

GOSS - Paul E. Goss, 70, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Kittery, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery. Arrangements by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 22107 Elmira Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Ustina Simons

HAMPTON - The funeral for Ustina Simons, 84, of 7 Dearborn Ave., Hampton, was held Thursday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. Services were conducted in the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor, officiated. Karen Paterna was organist.

Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Knowlton. Pallbearers were Jeffrey McCrea, Lyman McCrea, Alfred Carlson and Richard Stard.

William P. Walsh

PORTSMOUTH - William P. Walsh, 63, of 32 Osprey Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Nov. 7, 1936, in Boston, he was the son of Patrick and Susannah (Bradbury) Walsh and had been a resident of Portsmouth for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a former member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was employed for many years at National Sea Products and more recently as a cab driver.

He was the husband of Roberta (Chapman) Walsh.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Shawn Walsh, and a daughter, Shannon Walsh, both of Portsmouth; and two sisters, Marie Irene Walsh and Annie Walsh.

Funeral services will be held at a later date, to be announced.

Lawrence A. Beliveau Sr.

YORK BEACH - Lawrence A. Beliveau Sr., 89, of 4 Cardinal Lane, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, at York Hospital after a long illness.

Born on March 10, 1911, in Sawyerville, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of Charles P. and Blanche (Kimball) Beliveau.

He had been employed at the Norton Co. in Worcester, Mass., for many years. He had formerly resided in Worcester and summered in York Beach for 18 years before becoming a full-time resident 22 years ago.

He was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of York and a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Worcester. He was an avid bird watcher and a member of the Audubon Society. He enjoyed animals and spent one summer helping to raise a lion cub in York Beach. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

He was the husband of K. Anita (Beaudry) Beliveau of York Beach.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Lawrence A. Beliveau Jr. of Worcester, Mass; two sisters, Charlotte Spencer of Worcester, Mass., and Beatrice Woodill of East Rochester, N.H.; two grandsons, Lawrence A. Beliveau III of Worcester, and Charles E. Beliveau of Auburn, Mass.

He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Beliveau.

BELIVEAU - Lawrence A. Beliveau Sr., 89, of 4 Cardinal Lane, York Beach, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Aug. 30, 2000, in York. Memorial service at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8, in the First Parish Church, York Street, York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Frederick B. Sandford

KITTERY - Funeral services for Frederick B. Sandford, 79, of 115 Dennett Road, were held Thursday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth. The Rev. William T. Richards Jr., pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

In attendance were members of the I.O.O.F. of New Hampshire, including representatives of the Grand Encampment of New Hampshire and members of the Rebekah Assembly of New Hampshire.

Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Richards. Bearers were James Albies, John Rothstein, Joseph Quintini, Ray Eberle, Robert Woodburn and Alonzo Ireson.

I.O.O.F. services were held Wednesday evening at the Chapel by the Grand Encampment of N.H. Services were conducted by Ronald F. Perry, Grand Patriarch; and George Abbott, Grand Scribe of the Grand Encampment of N.H. Included in the services were Glenn Payne; Bobby Goodwin; Norman B. Richard Pray

DOVER - Richard Pray, 79, of 20 Kelwyn Drive, Somersworth, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center after a period of failing health.

Born Jan. 9, 1921, in Boston, he was the son of Edwin and Hazel (Whitehouse) Pray. He was a graduate of Spaulding High School and a lifelong resident of the area.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was recalled for active duty during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed by the Public Service Company of New Hampshire, retiring after 20 years. He went on to work for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 15 years as an international representative.

He was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Dover.

He was the husband of Margaret (O'Leary) Pray for 52 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jane Garnett and William Garnett, and Jacky Ann LeHoullier and Peter Cook, all of Nottingham; four grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan Garnett, and Jason and Rebecca LeHoullier; a brother, George E. Pray, and a sister, Elizabeth Hill, both of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Hill and Dorothy Hammond.

PRAY - Richard Pray, 79, of 32 Kelwyn Drive, Somersworth, died Aug. 31, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 .a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Third Street, Dover. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. on Friday (today), at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Church, 25 Third Street, Dover, NH 03820-3385.
