No matter where she went in town, she always knew at least three or four people. She accumulated a large, loyal group of friends throughout her lifetime.

She went through life at full throttle; working was always very important in her life. In her early years, she worked for Helen Langdon. During high school, she worked for Montgomery Ward in their downtown location. She always told about the most expensive dress in the store being $5.99.

She then went to work for the Superintendent of Schools Office, where she became the highest paid secretary in the city. She made a number of lifelong friends there.

She began her own business at home, providing secretarial and reprographic services to a wide variety of organizations. These included the Knights of Columbus, Rye Lions Club, New Hope Baptist Church, Don Dennis Architect, Sibson's Memorials, Maine Obsolete Automobile League (MOALS), and Dr. Gerard Shattuck, among others.

She played the piano for the Emma B. Smith Dance Studio recitals for 35 years.

She was the librarian for a number of years at the Portsmouth Athenaeum. She worked as a bookkeeper for Singer Plumbing Co. and worked a short time on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She provided private secretarial services to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph May, Mr. and Mrs. William Wendell, Mr. William Harrington, Mrs. Armstrong of Rye, and Mr. Ralph Margeson, in his capacity as president of the Portsmouth chapter of Rotary International.

She dedicated a great deal of her life to the Catholic Church. In addition to being a lifelong communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, she was also the bookkeeper there for 30 years. She was the bookkeeper and worked with Monsignor Thomas Duffy when he was building St. James Church. She was also involved in the administration of the fund-raising effort to build St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

Music was also a great joy in her life. She often reminisced about her parents making the sacrifice to pay for piano lessons for her during the Depression. She and her sister Frances, along with Evie Derochemont, went to the Naval Hospital during World War II and played for the patients, including those in the psychiatric ward. She played for events held by the Grand Old Guard, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus and many other organizations. She played at forts in the Seacoast area during the war. She was the organist and choir director for 31 years at the Pease Air Force Base Chapel, where her adult and children's choirs won a number of awards during the 1960s and '70s.

She was a summer organist at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Hampton Beach for years. She was organist and choir director at the Immaculate Conception Church for eight years. She played hundreds of weddings and funerals at various area churches. Her last performance as an organist was in August 1999 as substitute at St. Theresa's Church in Rye.

During World War II she was a USO girl, and one of a group of local ladies who danced and sang for the troops six nights a week. She told many times of the air raid siren going off while they were at the dances and the blackout would occur. They would sit in the darkness until the all-clear was sounded and then they would continue the dance.

She met her husband, Gerald P. Kelliher, at Fort Dearborn. They were married on Oct. 12, 1946. Gerald died in October 1973.
