Vera A. Foskett

WELLS - Vera A. (Osgood) Foskett, 85, of the Buchaneer Motel, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, in Jensen Beach, Fla., after a lengthy period of illness.

Born in Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of Fred and Florence (Biederman) Osgood and later moved to Worcester, Mass. She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester.

For 53 years, she was married to the late Dan Foskett, who died in 1983.

She and her husband lived in Charlton, Mass., from 1940 to 1974, and lived in Wells and Florida for many years.

She worked for the former Worcester Baking Co., and former Sawyer Lumber Co., both in Worcester.

She was active in many civic organizations, including the Grange, Phythian Sisters and helping Hand Society.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel O. Foskett of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Fred W. Foskett of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Beryl Peterson of Bradenton, Fla.; seven grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

FOSKETT - Vera A. (Osgood) Foskett, 85, died Aug. 22, 2000. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at the Robert J. Miller-Charlton Funeral Home, 175 Old Worcester Road, Charlton, Mass. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, in the Charlton Federated Church, Main Street. Burial will be in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton.

Henry Chandler Horner

NEW CASTLE - Henry Chandler Horner, 69, of New Castle, and Worcester, Mass., died in an aircraft accident on Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, off the coast of Cape Porpoise, Maine. He was on his way to Nova Scotia with friends to pick up his boat "Blue Star," and bring it back to New Castle. Three of the party survived.

Born March 13, 1931, in Worcester, he was the son of Robert Samuel Horner and Virginia Hart Horner of New Castle and Worcester. He was a graduate of the Dublin School, Dublin, N.H., Harvard University and Harvard Law School.

Senior partner in the law firm of Fletcher Tilton Whipple of Worcester, Mass., he was a member of both the New Hampshire and Massachusetts bar associations.

He was well known for his support of and participation in civic and community organizations in the Portsmouth and Worcester areas. A founding member of the board of trustees of Dublin School, he served as its chairman for a number of years. He was an overseer of Strawbery Banke; a proprietor of the Portsmouth Athenaeum; a trustee of the New Castle Church; and in the Seacoast Science Center in Rye.

Among organizations in the Worcester area on whose boards he served were the Ecotarium, a science center; Radio Station WICN; the Salisbury Singers; and the Washington Mills Electro Minerals Co.

He was a founding member of the Kittery Point Yacht Club, a member of the Megantic Fish and Game Corp. in Maine, and belonged to the Harvard clubs of Boston and Worcester, among other organizations.

He was an avid sailor throughout his life, starting as a boy with small sailboat racing on the Piscataqua River. A competitive skier in college, he was an experienced pilot and enthusiastic fly fisherman.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann; stepsons James A. Knight of Holden, Mass., and John G. Knight of Nantucket, Mass.; sisters Sally H. Smyser of New Castle and Washington, D.C., and Nancy Borden of New Castle; niece Annie Schwab; and nephew Peter Schwab.

HORNER - Henry Chandler Horner, 69, of New Castle and Worcester, Mass., died Aug. 18, 2000. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2000, at the New Castle Congregational Church, and at 3 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2000, in Worcester at All Saints Church, 10 Irving St. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate gifts in his memory to the Dublin School, Dublin, NH 03444; Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth; and to the New Castle Congregational Church.

Mabel W. Fox

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - Mabel W. Fox, 79, of 511 N. Richhill St., died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at home.

Born Oct. 2, 1920, in Sedgwick, Maine, she was the daughter of the late E. Warren and Gertrude M. (Smith) Barnes.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was the Sunday school teacher for the Tracy-Jewell Sunday school class. She had been a deaconess of the church and had sung in the adult church choir. She also was a member of the First Baptist Quilters.

She had served as ABWM coordinator and on the American Baptist Ten Mile Committee. She was a Mayflower descendent in New Hampshire, being a descendent of Richard Warren. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, having served as chapter regent of both the Ranger Chapter in Portsmouth, N.H., and the John Corbly Chapter of Waynesburg, Pa. She was also a member of the Emerald Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 135 of Waynesburg. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, and at one time was the corresponding secretary general for the National Society of New England Women.

She served as a volunteer nurse's aide for the American Red Cross and was a licensed practical nurse in New Hampshire. She was a retired Civil Service employee for the U.S. Navy, starting as under clerk typist at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and finishing as supervisory secretary at the Naval Command in Washington, D.C.

She was a receipt clerk for the American Cancer Society in Baltimore, Md. She was the bookkeeper for Waynesburg Hardware for several years.

She was an avid quilter and gardener.

Her first husband, Clarence W. Frost, whom she married on Oct. 8, 1938, died Feb. 7, 1964. Her second husband, Kenneth D. Fox, whom she married on May 28, 1977, died Feb. 15, 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline (Polly) Johnston of Rogersville, Pa.; and two grandsons, Bryan F. Johnston and David C. Johnston.

FOX— Mabel W. Fox, 79, of Waynesburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000. Visitation is today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, 197 North Maiden St., Waynesburg, PA 15370. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Waynesburg. Burial will be private at the convenience of family at Hillside Cemetery in East Kingston, N.H. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church, corner of West and High streets, Waynesburg, PA 15370.

Ann E. Bellacombe

BOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Ann E. (McCabe) Bellacombe, 78, of 70 Whitcomb Road, formerly of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, in the Sunbridge of Concord Care Center after a lengthy period of illness.

Born in Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth C. (Miller) McCabe and lived all of her life in Portsmouth, until moving to Boxborough 10 years ago.

She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Kimball of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Donald Heath of Newport Richey, Fla.; two daughters, Lynda Demers of Dover, N.H., and Elizabeth Aubert of Boxborough; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, William McCabe, who died in 1995.

James M. Gobbi

PORTSMOUTH - James M. Gobbi, 29, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident.

Born Aug. 9, 1971, in Portsmouth, he was a lifelong resident of the area. A graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1989, he was employed at Harvey Industries.

Survivors include his father, Robert M. Gobbi and his wife, Phyllis, of East Wakefield, N.H.; his mother, Kim (Bui) Gobbi of Nashua, N.H.; his daughter, Amber Marie Gobbi; his fiancee, Nancy Grover of York; sisters Kim "Bung" Gendron of Windham, N.H., and Thuy Blais of Raymond, N.H.; brothers Patrick Gobbi and Anthony Gobbi, both of Newton, Mass.; a stepbrother, Cliff Falla of Hampton; three nephews; one niece; and many close friends.

GOBBI - James M. Gobbi, 29, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (today) at the Griffin Memorial Chapel at Calvary Cemetery. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H.

KELLIHER - Eleanor Theresa (Dowdell) Kelliher, 83, of 373 Union St., Portsmouth, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Visiting hours from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday (today) and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials in her memory may be made to the Stained Glass Restoration Fund, Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

George James Pappademas

VENICE, Fla. - George James Pappademas, 75, a resident of the Isles of Chestnut Creek, Venice, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000 in Venice, Fla.

He was born in Nashua on Oct. 15, 1924, and had been a resident of this area for 15 years, coming from Nashua.

He was past business owner of Grand Prix Real Estate and Cash 'n Carry Cleaners of Nashua, and served as supreme lodge governor and on the board of trustees of AHEPA.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Laurence (Larrie) Pappademas of Venice, Fla.; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Berman and husband, Stewart, of Rye; sons, James Richard Pappademas and wife, Ellen, of Mill Valley, Calif., and George Evans Pappademas of Colrain, Mass.; grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, Sarah, Jeremiah and Christopher; a brother, Thomas Pappademas of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Aphrodite Boujoukos and husband, John, of Swampscott, Mass.

PAPPADEMAS - George James Pappademas, 75, of Isles of Chestnut Creek, Venice, Fla., died Aug. 23, 2000. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Venice, with a reception following at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1115 Center Road, Venice, FL 34292. Farley Funeral Home and Crematory Venice Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys A. Soneson

EXETER - Gladys A. (Spear) Soneson, 84, of Exeter, formerly of Greenfield, Mass., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Exeter Healthcare Inc.

Born Oct. 31, 1915, in Greenfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Edith (Gerrett) Spear.

She lived for most of her life in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School and attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, Mass.

She was a member of the Second Congregational Church and its women's organizations. She also volunteered at the Franklin County Hospital Board of Organized Workers, the Greenfield Girls Club, and for many years volunteered at the Junior SPCC Thrift Shop. She also worked at the polls during elections for many years.

She was the wife of the late of J. Melvin Soneson, who died in 1985.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Joann and Peter Matulewicz of Chicopee, Mass., Betty and Joseph Principato of Litchfield, N.H., and Polly and Richard Abbott of Exeter, with whom she resided the past two years; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nephews and one niece.

She was predeceased by a brother, George A. Spear, and a sister, Lois Schoppe.

SONESON - Gladys A. Soneson of Exeter, formerly of Greenfield, Mass., died Aug. 22, 2000. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29 at the Second Congregational Church, Court Street, Greenfield, Mass. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Children, 479 Main St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Assistance with the arrangements was by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Irene Lamonde

PORTSMOUTH - Irene (Fritz) Lamonde, 91, of 900 Woodbury Ave., widow of Harold W. Lamonde, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Portsmouth, Feb. 7, 1909, the daughter of George and Edwidge (Nelson) Fritz, she was a lifelong resident here. She was a graduate of St. Patrick School; Portsmouth High School, Class of 1927; and the Portsmouth Business School. She was employed in the travel department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1971.

A communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church, she was also a member of the Women's Club. An avid golfer, she was a member of Portsmouth Country Club for more than 60 years. She liked to bowl, play Bingo, knit and crochet. She attended the Greater Seacoast Adult Day Program, where she enjoyed the company of other seniors participating in crafts and current events.

Survivors include her son, Robert Lamonde and his fiancee, Roxanne Tuley, of Portsmouth; a grandson, Christopher Lamonde; a great-grandson, Jordan Lamonde; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, John Fritz and George F. Fritz Jr.

LAMONDE - Irene (Fritz) Lamonde, 91, of 900 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth, died Aug. 24, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine Church. Visiting hours from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. William Anthony Roe

PORTSMOUTH -— William Anthony Roe, 54, the husband of Shirley (Wallace) Barbour Roe, of 2021 Lafayette Road, died peacefully at his home, after a short battle with cancer, on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000.

Born Jan. 24, 1946, in South Boston, he was the son of the late Harold Anthony and Anna (Ahern) Roe. He was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Class of 1965.

He served in the United States Army in Intelligence during Vietnam from 1965-1969. In 1969, he started working for the post office as a parcel post clerk in South Boston, transferring to Logan, then to Waltham, then back to Logan, where he retired Aug. 1, 2000, as a dispatcher.

Besides his wife of 21 years, survivors include a son, Anthony Jared Roe, 19, of Portsmouth; a daughter, Sarah Jane Roe, 18, of Portsmouth; a stepson, Dr. Jeffrey Scott Barbour, 29, of Portsmouth; a brother, Dr. Harold Roe and his wife, Dr. Carolyn Roe, of Toronto, Canada; a niece, Anne Roe of Toronto, Canada; and several cousins.

ROE - William Anthony Roe, 54, of 2021 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, died Aug. 22, 2000. Memorial services for family and friends will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at his residence, 2021 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Donations in his memory may be made to Portsmouth Home Health and Hospice Services, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801-4946. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Helen B. Gray

AMESBURY, Mass. - Helen B. (Duchaine) Rogers Gray, 74, of 5 Lonvale Lane, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at her home.

Born May 25, 1926, in Barre, Vt., she was the wife of Alden Gray.

She was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for more than 25 years as a payroll clerk and computer technician.

She was a member of the Deep Creek Golf Club and the Moose Club, both in Port Charlotte, Fla. She also bowled for many years in the shipyard Women's League, and previously was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 50 years, Walter Rowe Rogers, who passed away in 1993.

Survivors include three sons, David P. of Billings, Mont.; James A. of Kennebunk; and Steven W. of Kittery; a daughter, Donna L. and son-in-law, Timothy Evans, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

GRAY - Helen B. (Duchaine) Rogers Gray, 74, of 5 Lonvale Lane, Amesbury, Mass., died Aug. 23, 2000. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. No visiting hours. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements by the J. Selma L. Maryea

PORTSMOUTH - Selma L. Maryea, 73, of 140 Court St., died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Langdon Place of Dover.

Born May 30, 1927, in Beaver, Ky., she was the daughter of Grant and Ida Hall, and moved here in 1969 from Massachusetts.

She was employed at Millikins Factory in Exeter before her retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen R. Brabant of Somersworth; five sons, Robert G. Fletcher of Northwood, Roland W.A. Fletcher of Nottingham, Grant Newsome, Larry Newsome and Dan Newsome, all of Beaver, Ky.; several grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters in Ohio.

She was predeceased by a son, Gary Newsome, who died in 1984.

MARYEA - Selma L. Maryea, 73, of 140 Court St., Portsmouth, died Aug. 20, 2000. There are no calling hours. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover.
