Lorraine E. Roy

EXETER - Lorraine E. Roy, 73, of Myrtle Street, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Seacoast Health Center in Hampton.

Born June 14, 1927, in Exeter, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bella Brabant.

A native and lifelong resident of Exeter, she was a graduate of Robinson Female Seminary in Exeter.

She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Royal Lobster in Portland, Maine.

In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo.

She was the wife of the late Arthur Roy.

Survivors include her daughter, Ramona Dusombre of Haverhill, Mass.; three sons, Kevin Roy of Scarborough, Maine, Edward Roy of Stanford, Conn., and Richard Gendron of Northwood, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Jeannette Grady of Exeter; and one brother, Norman Brabant of Virginia.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Roy, who died in 1998.

ROY - Lorraine E. Roy, 73, of Exeter, died Aug. 17, 2000. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at St. Michael's Church, located on the corner of Front and Lincoln streets, Exeter. Burial will follow in Exeter Cemetery.

Bertha Young McPheter

PORTSMOUTH - Bertha (Meadors) Young McPheter, 90, of 19A Pearl St., died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1909, in Crawford County, Ark., she was the daughter of Robert and Julia Roberta (Parker) Meadors.

Before her retirement, she was self-employed as a real estate broker.

She was a member of the Seacoast Community Church in Portsmouth; member of the Frank E. Booma Unit No. 6, American Legion Auxiliary; Emerson Hovey Post No. 168, Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary.

Since 1983, she had been a member of the Pounds of Clowns and went by the clown name of "Dame Young"; was a member of True Kindred in Kansas; and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, East Gate Chapter No. 367 in Kansas City, Mo.

She was the wife of the late Ira W. McPheter Jr.

Survivors include a son, Clarence Joseph Young of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Thomas Young and his wife, Judy, of Palmyra, Pa., Joseph Young of Portsmouth, Robert Young of Portsmouth, and Melissa (Young) Scott and her husband, John, of Orange City, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Kassandra Young of Portsmouth, Krista Scott of Florida, Todd Young of Portsmouth, and Nicholas Chesley of Florida; a special niece, Jaunita Engelmohr of Kansas City, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

MCPHETER - Mrs. Bertha (Meadors) Young McPheter, 90, of 19A Pearl St., Portsmouth, died Aug. 16, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours 6-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with American Legion Auxiliary services at 5:45 by the Frank E. Booma Unit No. 6. Flowers will be accepted. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Mitchell Kimon Fulis

PORTSMOUTH - Mitchell Kimon Fulis, 81, of 71 Kensington Road, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at his home.

Born Sept. 3, 1918, in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Kimon Mitchell and Anastasia (Karippy) Fulis. He attended and graduated high school in Athens, Greece, and was a graduate of the N.H. Vocational Technical School, formerly of Portsmouth.

He had been employed as a machinist for Sanders Associates in Nashua; for Eastern Air Devices in Dover; and before his retirement, he was employed with Temco in Danvers, Mass.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth, served as its council past president, and was a member of St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth.

During World War II, he was known as a hero in the Greek Resistance.

A master machinist, he loved working with his hands. He also enjoyed collecting coins, loved art, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved gardening, at which he took great pride.

He was the husband of Constantina (Chrysanthou) Fulis.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Irene Mitchell Kouloungis of Lowell, Mass., and Kimon Mitchell Fulis of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, Niclis Kouloungis of Lowell, Constance Kouloungis Christakos of Lowell, Sofia Kouloungis of Manhattan, N.Y., Pamela Kenyon Webber of Somersworth, N.H., Irene Kenyon Ducharme of Dracut, Mass., Melissa Fulis of Portsmouth, Sofia Fulis of Portsmouth, and Michael Kimon Fulis of Portsmouth; three great-grandchildren, Krystal Webber of Somersworth, Alexa Christakos of Lowell, and Brandon Price of Dracut; two nephews, Steven Lalas and Kimon Lalas, both of Rochester, N.H.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Efrosine Fulis Kenyon.

Odis A. "Bill" McGee

NEWINGTON - Odis A. "Bill" McGee, 73, of 104 Little Bay Road, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000.

Born May 16, 1927, in Lax, Ga., he was the son of the late Rosa (Jones) and Jesse McGee.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, seeing action in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He also participated in the occupation of Japan.

For many years, he worked for Coleman Oil Co. He later owned and operated McGee's Transport until his retirement in 1988.

An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, he looked forward with great anticipation to the moose hunt this fall.

He took great pleasure in his garden.

He was the husband of Rosaline (Bronzetti) McGee for 54 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Allen and his wife, Mary, of Portsmouth, and Kenneth and his wife, Carolyn, of Eliot; daughter Wanda Jessee of Dover; grandchildren Colin, Meghan, Kenneth, Stephen and his wife, Rachel, and Julie McGee; five great-grandchildren; brothers Leroy R. of Plymouth, Fla., Herman E. of Portsmouth; sisters Emma Pearl of Ocilla, Ga., and Jewelene McCook of Broxton, Ga.; and his close friend, Robert Greenier Sr. of Newington.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Samuel and Jesse, and sister Hazel.

He was very proud of his family and was a big part of many people's lives. He will be greatly missed.

MCGEE - Odis "Bill" McGee, 73, of 104 Little Bay Road, Newington, died Aug. 16, 2000. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Newington Cemetery. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Memorials may be made to the Newington Firefighters Association, 80 Fox Point Road, Newington, NH 03801. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

Hazel G. Balfour

NORTH HAMPTON - The funeral for Hazel G. Balfour, 79, of 161 Post Road was held Wednesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Services were held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Hampton. The Rev. Peter A. Lane, vicar, officiated. Organist was Anne Shumway Rowe.

Burial followed in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton, with committal prayers by Father Lane. Pallbearers were Steven Santella, Mark Santella, James Devaney Jr., Michael Caputo, Louis Caputo and Eric Caputo.

Robert W. Finn

PORTSMOUTH - Robert W. Finn, 63, of 1 Freedom Circle, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Manchester.

Born Oct. 1, 1936, in Lowell, Mass., he was the son of the late William and Margaret (O'Connor) Finn.

He was a graduate of Keith Academy, Class of 1954, and New Hampshire College, Class of 1981 with a degree in general business.

He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, retiring as master sergeant in November 1974.

He was formerly employed for more than 15 years as the bookkeeper for the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, American Legion in Portsmouth.

He was past commander of the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, American Legion; past commander of Emerson Hovey Post No. 168, V.F.W.; and was a member of the Retired Air Force Sergeants Association.

He was an avid photographer and enjoyed watching football.

He will be sadly missed by many friends.

FINN - Mr. Robert W. Finn, 63, of 1 Freedom Circle, Portsmouth, died Aug. 15, 2000. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. American Legion services by Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by V.F.W. services by Emerson Hovey Post No. 168 at 5:45 p.m. Full military honors will be given at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. Donations in his memory may be made to the Veterans Funds, c/o American Legion, State House Annex, Concord, NH 03301. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Emmett Lee King Sr

KITTERY - Emmett Lee King Sr., 57, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, following a long period of illness at the SunBridge nursing home in Portsmouth.

Born Aug. 27, 1942, in Bastrop, La., he was the son of the late Evan and Mattie (Grand) King. He attended school in Louisiana, and later in life moved to Kittery.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Granite State Minerals Co. of Portsmouth. He was a dedicated, hard-working employee of that company.

He enjoyed working around his home, cutting grass, chopping wood and other chores outdoors. He took great pride in his home. He also loved spending quality time with his beloved pet, "Buddy," a beautiful black Labrador retriever.

He was the husband of Heleana King.

In addition to his wife, survivors include six children and many grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

He will be greatly missed by the many friends he made over the years in the Portsmouth and Kittery areas.

KING - Mr. Emmett Lee King Sr., 57, of Kittery, died Aug. 12, 2000, at the SunBridge nursing home in Portsmouth. A private memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. The Rev. Ron Messer, pastor of the Eliot United Methodist Church, will officiate. Barbara Kenny will provide the music. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire in Manchester is handling the out-of-state arrangements. Contributions may be made to the Marlee Animal Rescue, Adopt a Pet Program, P.O. Box 552, North Berwick, ME 03906.

Robert W. Orr

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Robert W. Orr, 77, of 825 Maplewood Ave., were held Tuesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Price of the Middle Street Baptist Church officiated.

In attendance were representatives from the Portsmouth Fire Department and representatives from St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM; Washington Chapter; Davenport Council; and DeWitt Clinton Commandery.

Burial was in Orchard Grove Cemetery, Kittery, with committal services by the Rev. Price.

An honor guard was formed at the cemetery by the Portsmouth Fire Department, under the direction of Chief Ricky Plummer, including firefighters Steven Smith, David Bohne, Todd Germain, Richard Murphy, Brett Nelson and John Moulton.

Taps was sounded by firefighter Ted Blood III.

The flag that draped the casket was folded by Steven Smith, David Bohne, Todd Germain, Richard Murphy, Brett Nelson, and John Moulton, and presented to Mr. Orr's son, Dale Orr, by Chief Ricky Plummer.

Bearers were Steven Smith, David Bohne, Todd Germain, Richard Murphy, Brett Nelson and John Moulton.

An honor guard was formed Monday evening at the chapel including Capt. Bernard Marvin, and firefighters Todd Germain, Richard Murphy, Steven Smith, Jim Rivais, John Sylvester and Brett Nelson.

Masonic services were held Monday evening at the chapel by St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM including Worshipful Master Craig I. Brown; Senior Warden Philip Fraser; Junior Warden Steven MacKenzie; Chaplain Nelson Hersey PM; Secretary Donald H. Ladd PM; Treasurer Gerald Buehrer PM. Also assisting in services were Ronald E. Metcalf, most illustrious grand master of the Grand Council of N.H.; Robert Argel PM; Robert L. Sutherland Sr. PM; Robert Parsons; Warren Ward; Robert H. Leonard; Kenneth Young Jr.; Ralph Woodman; Dante Caminati; George Milliken PM; Frank White; and Arnold E. Hartling PM.

Elmer R. "JR" Wormel Jr.

SOUTH BERWICK - Elmer R. "JR" Wormel Jr., 70, of 30 Berwick Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at his home with his loving family at his bedside.

Born Sept. 16, 1929, in Dover, N.H., he was the oldest son of Elmer R. Wormel Sr. and Leah A. (Doherty) Wormel.

He attended St. Michael's School and Berwick Academy, and earned his associate's degree in accounting.

He could not wait to enlist in the U.S. Army, in which he proudly served for 23 years. He was highly decorated, including Glider Wings from the Korean War (187th Airborne), Senior Parachute Wings with the 11th Airbourne, and was twice decorated with the Bronze Star for valor and bravery. He participated in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Upon his retirement from the military, he chose to work for the United States Postal Service, in which he proudly served for 22 years. He was postmaster of Berwick for many years. He was proud of his country and the ability to serve in the military and civil service.

He was an avid golfer and was frequently found on the links at the Sunnydale Country Club. He loved all sports but had a special spot for the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He was the No. 1 fan of whatever teams his children and grandchildren became involved in.

He loved his home and worked very hard at keeping up his lawn so it would be a showcase for the American flag.

He was a member of the American Legion, Rollinsford Post No. 47; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was the husband of Mattie L. (Scott) Wormel of South Berwick, whom he married Aug. 2, 1952.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Stephanie J. Dahr of Beacon Falls, Conn., and Donna S. Leavitt of South Berwick; one son, Dennis R. Wormel of South Berwick; his mother, Leah Hayes of Kittery; his brother, Donald Wormell of Port Orange, Fla.; five grandchildren, Justin S. Dahr of Beacon Falls, Brandon A. Leavitt of South Berwick, Shayle L. Wormel of South Berwick, Timothy J. Dahr of Beacon Falls, and Patrick R. Wormel of South Berwick.

WORMEL - Elmer R. "JR" Wormel Jr., 70, of 30 Berwick Road, South Berwick, died Aug. 16, 2000. Relatives and friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Thomas Booth, family friend, officiating. Burial will follow in Brooks Memorial Park, Eliot. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Squamscott Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care, 113 New Rochester Road, Suite 4, Dover, NH 03820.
