Joseph A. Ouellette

DOVER - Joseph Armand Ouellette, 91, formerly of Waldron Towers, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Riverside Rest Home.

Born Dec. 18, 1908, in Dover, he was the son of Cyprien and Belzemire (Marcotte) Ouellette. He was educated in Dover schools and has lived here all of his life.

He was a blacksmith by trade and owned and operated his own shop. He later owned and operated, for more than 25 years, the Ouellette's Corner Grocery Store on Pierce Street.

He was a member of St. Charles Church. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 443 for more than 50 years.

His first wife Alice (Lemieux) Ouellette, died in 1963 and his second wife Bernadette (Trudeau) Ouellette, died in 1998.

He is survived by his daughter Emily and her husband, Joseph Geraci of Bremerton, Wash.; three grandchildren, Joseph Geraci of Smithfield, Va., Linda Hoyt of South Windsor, Conn., and June Pius of Shelton, Wash.; and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves a stepdaughter, Mrs. Walter (Monica) Hensel Jr., of Dover; several step-grandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

OUELLETTE - Joseph Armand Ouellette, 91, formerly of Waldron Towers, died Sunday, July 9, 2000. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Friday, at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, at St. Charles Church, 577 Central Ave., with the Rev. Paul Gregoire, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Charles Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials in his name may be made to the Riverside Rest Home, Activities Fund, County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820, or the Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301.

Glenn F. Trueman Sr.

NEW CASTLE - Glenn F. Trueman Sr., of Ann Arbor, Mich., formerly of New Castle, died Dec. 18, 1999, in Ann Arbor. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 14, at Great Island Common in New Castle.

Isabelle R. Surette

GREENLAND - Isabelle Riley Surette of 6 Hillside Drive, died at her home Monday, July 11, 2000, after a period of failing health.

She was a graduate of Hanover High School and the Boston Stenotype School. She was employed at the city clerks' office in Portsmouth for several years and also was town clerk in Newington for several years.

She was the wife of the late Theodore A. Surette II. He died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter Suzanne Shupe of Greenland with whom she resided; a son, Jon Surette of Pasadena, Md.; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister Julia Smith of Braintree, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Theodore A. Surette III, who died in 1946.

SURETTE - Isabelle R. Surette of 6 Hillside Drive, Greenland, died July 11, 2000. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to the Portsmouth Home Health and Hospice, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements by Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H.

Arminio M. Ciotti

DOVER - Arminio Mario "Pop" Ciotti, 84, of Martha's Way, died July 7, 2000 in Dover.

Born Sept. 27, 1915 in Cohoes, N.Y., he was the son of Vincent and Maria (Grestini) Ciotti. He was the widower of Angelina M. (Manes) Ciotti who died in 1987.

Pop was a painter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1974. More recently, Pop worked for Mobil Oil Company. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

Members of the family include his sons, Anthony Ciotti of Denver, Bill Ciotti of Dover, and Paul Ciotti of Sanbornville, N.H.; his brothers, Lawrence Ciotti of Portsmouth and Patrick Ciotti of Troy, N.Y.; sisters, Louise Caninio of Portsmouth, and Marian Belhumeur of Dover; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and goddaughter, Diane M. Wiggin.

CIOTTI - Arminio Mario "Pop" Ciotti, 84, of Martha's Way, Dover, died July 7, 2000. Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Central Avenue. Burial will be in the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Gregory J. Colburn

KENNEBUNK - Gregory J. Colburn Sr., 59, of 96 Farragut Way, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 9, 2000.

Born in Baltimore, Md. on July 23, 1940, he was the son of Harvey and Dorothy (Cavalier) Colburn.

He served in the Air Force Reserves

He was employed as a data systems analyst for Wright Express in South Portland.

He was a member of St. Raphael's Church in Kittery and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Wilmington, Del.

He was the husband of Mary F. (Littlepage) Colburn for 23 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Cynthia Lane of Baltimore, and Gregory J. Colburn Jr. of Hanover, Pa.; two stepchildren, Bridgid Mannion of San Diego, and Bernard Mannion of Delta, Pa.; six grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Justin, Katie, Jim and Kelsey.

COLBURN - Mr. Gregory J. Colburn, 59, of 96 Farragut Way, Kennebunk, Maine, died suddenly July 9, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, at St. Raphael's Church, Kittery. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Colburn may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Lt. Steven P. Demo

DOVER - Lt. Steven P. Demo, 42, of the Portsmouth Police Department, the husband of Pamela Ward of 17 South Pine St., died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home.

Born in Portsmouth on Jan. 21, 1958, he was the son of Ronald G. and Virginia (Dowling) Demo of Greenland.

He attended Greenland schools, and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, class of 1976, where he played football and baseball, receiving a scholarship to Northeastern University, to play football. He graduated with a bachelor's degree of science in criminal justice in 1981. He attended Golden Gate University, where he received his master's degree.

He was employed for the Portsmouth Police Department as a lieutenant where he was currently assigned to the State Attorney General's Drug Task Force. Lt. Demo traveled extensively teaching Narcotics Enforcement Investigation for the Institute of Governmental Research.

He received many awards, including most recently, the New Hampshire Congressional Law Enforcement Award for career service, as well as numerous Portsmouth Police Department awards and citations; U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration awards; N.H. Drug Task Force awards and citations and N.H. State Police Recognitions.

He was a member and past president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 441; the Portsmouth Police Relief Association; N.H. Police Association; New England Narcotics Officers Association and the International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife Pamela, and his mother and father of Greenland; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Dowling of Greenland; three children, Trevor Demo, Brendan Demo and Cassidy Demo, all of Gilford; a sister, Linda Demo of Dover; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.

DEMO - Lt. Steven P. Demo, 42, Portsmouth Police Department, of 17 South Pine St., Dover, died Sunday, July 9, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Bethany Congregational Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminister Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Flowers will be accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 375 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02215, or to the Cops with Cancer Fund, c/o Chief Dean Crombie, Somersworth Police Department, Somersworth, NH 03878. Arrangements by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Hellen L. Fleming

PORTSMOUTH - Helen L. Fleming, 93, of 140 Court St., died Friday, July 7, 2000 at SunBridge Nursing Home.

She was born in Lindenville, Vt., on April 5, 1907.

A resident of Portsmouth for the past 60 years, she had been employed as a welder at the Portsmouth Navy Yard during World War II. She also worked as a waitress for many years before retiring.

She was the wife of the late Carlton L. Fleming. He died in 1959.

Survivors include a son Carlton L. Fleming of Warner Springs, Calif.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Joseph E. Gonya

SOMERSWORTH - Joseph E. Gonya, 74, of 28 Kelwyn Drive, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his residence after a period of failing health.

Born Dec. 29, 1925 in Berlin, he was the son of Oscar and Emma (Hamel) Gonya. He left high school in 1944 to enlist in the Navy where he served during the remainder of World War II. After the war, Joe returned to Berlin High School and graduated in 1947.

He worked for several years as an electrician before moving to Somersworth. He was employed by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard since 1960 where he worked as an electrician and progressed through multiple levels of management until he retired as a production controller in December 1989.

He was a parishioner of the Church of St. Thomas More, Durham for many years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Nippo Lake Country Club of Barrington and Oak Hill Country Club in Meredith. He enjoyed skiing, boating and spending summers with his family on Lake Winnepesaukee.

He was the husband of Venice T. (Bernier) Gonya of Somersworth.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Francis (Gail) DiNuzzo of Landenberg, Pa., Mrs. Alan (Jill) DeMello of Newmarket, and Mrs. Mark (Lisa) Gowen of Newmarket; four sisters, Ruth Cellupica of Berlin, Doris Stalvey of Arlington, Va., Dorothy Dwyer of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Pauline Blanchette of Berlin; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

GONYA - Joseph E. Gonya, 74, of 28 Kelwyn Drive, Somersworth, died Sunday, July 9, 2000. Friends and relatives may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 13, at the Church of St. Thomas More, Durham, with the Rev. Joseph E. Desmond as celebrant. Concelebrants will be the Rev. Daniel A. St. Laurent, pastor of the Church of St. Thomas More; the Rev. Georges F. deLaire, the Rev. Patrick F. Irwin, and the Rev. Richard D. Thompson. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Somersworth, N.H. Memorial contributions may be made to Squamscott Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 113 New Rochester Road, Dover, NH 03820 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Singer, Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.

Marilyn W. Teel

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Marilyn Walsh Teel, longtime resident of Newburyport, and founder of Marilyn's Mustard Sauce, Inc., died Friday, July 7, 2000, of pancreatic cancer, at her son's home in Damariscotta, Maine.

Born in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of Charles Sarto and Gladys (O'Brien) Walsh. She attended Winchester High School, Vesper George School of Art, and was president of her class at Mount Ida College. She became a stewardess for American Airlines before marrying Allan Howard Teel and settling in Reading, Mass. to raise six children.

Her bright outlook was a trademark of her business and her life. She was an active member of the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and an enthusiastic supporter of the arts. She was a member of the New England Food Professionals Association, and her mustard sauce was a fixture in area restaurants and gourmet shops. The distinctive sauce first appeared in her own restaurant, Marilyn's, in Manchester, Mass., where she embarked on her entrepreneurial career.

Survivors include her brother, Charles Sarto Walsh; children, Dr. Allan and Carol Scales Teel, Steven Teel, Jeff Teel, Mary Lou Teel and Peter Freundlich, Nancy Teel and Chris and Kellie Teel; grandchildren, Jon, Ben, Sarah, Dana, Christopher, Jessi, Jenny, Nick, Sean, Brogan, Paige, Mikaelyn and Corban; and many wonderful friends and family members. Her radiant smile and optimistic outlook will be missed by all who knew her.

TEEL - Marilyn Walsh Teel, longtime resident of Newburyport, Mass. died Friday, July 7, 2000. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, July 14, at the Elliott, Woodworth and Rogers Funeral Home on 35 Green St., Newburyport. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the Immaculate Conception Church on 7 Court St., Newburyport, followed by lunch at the Bluwater Cafe and a gathering at the home of friend Mary Kuist of Amesbury, Mass. Donations in her name may be sent to the Friends of the Newburyport Public Library, 94 State St., Newburyport, MA 01950, or the Immaculate Conception Restoration Fund, 7 Court St., Newburyport, MA 01950.

Lorraine F. Barrett

PORTSMOUTH - Lorraine F. Barrett, 73, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief period of illness.

Born Nov. 28, 1926, in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of Eugene and Ann Jeanette (Thompson) LeClair. For the past 40 years, she had been a resident of the Seacoast area.

After retiring from the New Hampshire Division of Human Services several years ago, she became an avid genealogical researcher. During the summer months, she enjoyed visiting Wallis Sands beach in Rye. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, and bowling.

She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Survivors include her three children, Linda Baribeault of Farmington, Herbert Barrett of Dover, and Michael Barrett of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Kimberly Joy, John Goodwin and Michelle Heon; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and Earl; two sisters, Faye Tutwiler and Sandra Verge; and numerous other relations throughout the country.

She was predeceased by her sister, Joanne, and two brothers, Eddie and Raymond.

BARRETT - Lorraine F. Barrett, 73, of Portsmouth, died July 8, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, 15 Middle St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

DONNELL - Janice I. Donnell, a 59-year resident of Manson Avenue in Kittery, formerly of York and Kennebunk, died Sunday, July 9, 2000. Visiting hours are 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, Maine. Funeral immediately following. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. Arrangements are by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.

John O. Gunderson

KITTERY - John O. Gunderson, 86, of 21 Manson Ave., Foxwell of Kittery, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at York Hospital in York.

Born July 24, 1913, in Boston, he was the son of the late Gustav and Marget (Oxhovd) Gunderson.

Before his retirement, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a machinist.

He was a member of the Naval Lodge No. 184 A.F. & A.M. of Kittery for more than 50 years, and he was a volunteer for many years with the Kittery Point Fire Department.

Survivors include a son, Lance F. Gunderson of Kittery; a daughter, Joan Baste of St. Vincent, Italy; two brothers, Arthur Gunderson of Longmeadow, Mass., and George Gunderson of North Hampton, Mass.; a grandson, Lance Kenneth Gunderson of Kittery; and his former wife, Martha B. Gunderson of Deer Isle, Maine.

There are no funeral services planned.

Margaret L. Marchi

KITTERY - Mrs. Margaret L. (Middleton) Marchi, 79, died Saturday night after a long period of illness at the Homestead Nursing Home in Kittery.

Born June 14, 1921, in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Mary B. (Mahoney) Middleton.

She graduated from East Boston schools and later worked many years in the retail business.

She was employed at Top Value Stamps and later at Hudsons Women's Apparel, both in Portsmouth.

She was a devoted mother and wife who loved her family and friends. She always had her home open to relatives and friends, and enjoyed cooking and baking for all of them. She was always the perfect hostess when it came to entertaining guests.

For many years, she was a volunteer chairwoman for the Meals on Wheels program in Kittery, and was a former member of the Lame Duck Bowling League of Portsmouth.

She was the wife of Alfred R. Marchi for 57 years. They married in 1943 in East Boston.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Richard of Sheepscot, Maine, and Robert of Kittery; a daughter, Karen Marchi of Hampton; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Middleton and Thomas Middleton; and two sisters, Catherine Deitch and Alice Heffner.

Mrs. Marchi will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members.

MARCHI - Mrs. Margaret Louise (Middleton) Marchi, 79, of Kittery, died Saturday night after a long illness at the Homestead Nursing Home in Kittery. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery. The Rev. Real Nadeau will celebrate the Mass of Christian burial. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Relations and Development at York Hospital, 1 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909-9978.
