Mary E. Webster

ELIOT - Mrs. Mary E. (Leavitt) Webster, 83, of Eliot, died Friday morning at her home following a long period of illness.

Born Aug. 27, 1916, in York, she was the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Shea) Leavitt.

She attended York High School and St. Barnabas Nursing School. She worked many years as a licensed practical nurse at the Homestead Nursing Home in Kittery. She was married to the late Mr. John H. Webster. They married in Portland in 1936.

She enjoyed the companionship and company of many friends all over the East Coast. She was a very outstanding, friendly person.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald, of Eliot; Richard, of Kittery; and R. David Webster of Somersworth; a foster daughter, Pam Jennison of Saco; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Frank Leavitt, and a sister, Helen Casoletto.

WEBSTER - Mary Elizabeth Webster, 83, of Eliot, died Friday at her home following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. The Rev. Ron Messer of the Eliot United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in First Parish Cemetery in York. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, and from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral Tuesday. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011-2194.

Harold L. Sultaire

BRENTWOOD - Harold L. Sultaire, 71, of 5 Ladd Road, died Friday, July 7, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Manchester.

Born July 31, 1928, in Brentwood, he was the son of the late Julius and Ida (Tucker) Sultaire.

He was a lifelong resident of Brentwood and was a gradate of Sanborn High School. He was a truck driver for the former Dearborn's Moving and Storage Co. of Exeter.

He was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of the Kingston VFW Post 1088, the Kingston Vets Club and the American Legion Post No. 32 of Exeter.

He was the husband of Olive M. (Bent) Sultaire for 21 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Gary D. Sultaire of St. .Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Linda A. Sultaire of St. Petersburg; two stepsons, Kenneth Smart of San Diego, and John Balukonis of Candia; one stepdaughter, Susan Balukonis of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Sultaire.

SULTAIRE - Harold L. Sultaire, 71, of 5 Ladd Road, Brentwood, died July 7, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the family at their time of need. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Evelyn Paul

NORTH HAMPTON - Evelyn Paul, 79, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Seacoast Health Center, Hampton, N.H.

Born May 29, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Rebecca (Katz) and Lewis Nassofer. She graduated with a nursing degree from Prospect Heights Hospital in 1942, and worked in public health nursing and in the intensive-care unit at Booth Memorial Hospital in New York City for 17 years.

She received her bachelor of arts degree from Queens College, City University of New York, and her master's degree in special education from Hofstra University.

For 25 years, she taught special education in Oceanside, N.Y., and Cape Coral, Fla.

She was the wife of Irving Paul for 59 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Dr. Steven Paul of North Hampton, and two daughters, Madeline Killeen of Fayetteville, N.Y., and Susan Stephens of Franklin, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca Stazi, Kieran Killeen, Amon Killeen, Andrew Paul, Emily Paul, Kevin Paul, Katherine Dowell, Stephanie Dowell, Conner Stephens and Beth Stephens.

She was predeceased by a son, Martin Frederick Paul of New York City.

Calling hours are at the home of Dr. Steven and Deborah Paul of North Hampton on Tuesday, July 11, and Wednesday, July 12, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Daniel V. Regan Jr.

PORTSMOUTH - Graveside funeral services for Daniel V. Regan Jr., 52, of 6 Dearborn St., were held Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Calvary Cemetery. Monsignor Lawrence Burns, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Church, officiated. In attendance were members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 168, and many friends and neighbors from the Creek and Christian Shore.

Pallbearers were William McKenney, and his five brothers, Michael Regan, Kevin Regan, Joseph Regan, Brian Regan and Christopher Regan.

The American flag, which draped the casket, was presented to his parents, Daniel and Beatrice (Holt) Regan.

Walter J. Debski

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Walter J. Debski, 72, formerly of 132 Sewall St., died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Hanover Hill Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1927, in Manchester, N.H., he was the son of Edward and Mary (Hudzik) Debski and had been a lifelong resident of the Queen City. He was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1945, and served on the committee for the 50th school reunion.

He was also a graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in electrical engineering and MBA.

After 27 years of service, he retired from Lockheed Sanders, where he was a manager of the Magnetic Components Department and received numerous government awards for quality.

He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean conflict.

He loved to fish.

He was the widower of Aline (Jacques) Debski, who died in 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Barry Debski of Santa Clara, Calif., and Douglas Debski of Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. John (Paula) McSorley of Nottingham, N.H.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. James (Leah) Collier of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

DEBSKI - Walter J. Debski, of Manchester, N.H., died July 7, 2000. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, corner of Union. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Theresa Church. Burial will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 59 School St., Concord, NH 03301.

TRUEMAN - Glenn F. Trueman Sr., of Ann Arbor, Mich., formerly of New Castle, died Dec. 18, 1999, in Ann Arbor. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 14 at Great Island Common in New Castle.

John R. Mazeau

NEWINGTON - Funeral services for John R. "Jack" Mazeau, 80, of 315 Newington Road, were held Thursday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, with services held at Newington Town Church. The Rev. John Filler, pastor, officiated. Jack O'Reilly gave words of remembrance. Willa Thorpe was organist.

In attendance were members of the Newington Town Church and representatives from Newington town offices, Newington Fire Department, Newington Police Department and Newington town selectmen.

Burial was in Newington Cemetery with committal services by the Rev. Filler.

Taps were sounded by Theodore Blood III.

The flag that draped the casket was folded by Chief Todd Gilbert and Petty Officer Chris Gillespie from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Chief Gilbert presented the flag to Mr. Mazeau's son, Michael Mazeau.

Bearers were John Mazeau, Michael Mazeau, Daniel Mazeau, Jack O'Reilly, Larry Wahl and Tom Morgan.

Disabled American Veterans services were held Wednesday evening at the Buckminster Chapel by Piscataqua Chapter No. 4 of Newington. Services were conducted by Manny Chavez, commander; Larry P. Smith, adjutant; Felix Young, chaplain; Joe Ford, senior vice and captain of the Honor Guard; Martin A. Cameron; and Don Bedaro.

Elizabeth F. Day

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Elizabeth F. Day, 84, of 234 Sherburne Road, were held Wednesday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth, with services held at the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. William T. Richard Jr., pastor, officiated. Jennifer Schrier was the soloist and Michael Cooper was the organist.

In attendance were members of the church and representatives from Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of Eastern Star; Grand Chapter of Order of Eastern Star; St. John's Lodge No. 1 F. & A.M. and St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F. & A.M.

Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Laconia, with committal services by the Rev. Richard.

Bearers were Robert Day, George Salzer, Adam Salzer, Peter Newbary and Craig Brown.

Order of Eastern Star services were held Tuesday evening at the Buckminster Chapel by Rivermouth Chapter No. 54. Services were conducted by Cathy Brown, worthy matron; Craig Brown, worthy patron; Edith Lovering, Adah. Barbara Pierce, Martha; Elizabeth Eckhart, Ruth; Anne Goodwin, Ester; Roxy Hartman, Electa; Jack Hartman, P.P., chaplain; Barbara Bissell, PGM; Al Bissell, PGP; Al Busseie, PGP; Robert Sutherland, P.P.; Martin Curtis; Joanne Curtis; Carol Bartlett, worthy grand matron; Wayne Bartlett, grand chaplain; Lucille Randall, grand Electa; Ruth Hamilton, PGM; Dwight Meader, PGP and member of General Grand Chapter Committee.

Curtis T. Goodwin

SPRINGVALE, Maine - Curtis Todd Goodwin, 38, of 4 Weeman St., died unexpectedly July 1, 2000, at his home.

Born Oct. 12, 1961, in Portsmouth, he was the son of K. Wayne and Jean Dunning Goodwin. He was raised in Eliot and attended Eliot Elementary School and graduated from Marshwood High School in 1980. He went on to earn his engineering degree from the Portsmouth Vocational Technical College.

Living in Springvale for the last 15 years, he was employed at EM Solutions in Westbrook, Maine. A loyal family man, he spent many of his most enjoyable times with his wife and their two children, camping, canoeing and enjoying nature.

Known for his love of freshwater fishing and hunting as well as ice fishing, he was truly an outdoorsman. He also enjoyed working on his 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, which he had owned since high school. Working in his garage and around his home, and playing his guitar were also favorite pastimes.

He was the husband of Shelly Lancy Goodwin for 15 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Kenny and Nicole Goodwin of Springvale; his mother and stepfather, Jean Dunning Tylock and Kenneth Tylock of Westfield, N.Y.; two brothers, Justin Goodwin of Eliot, and Brent and his wife, Marie Goodwin, both of Eliot; a stepbrother, Ken Tylock of England; a stepsister, Kristina Bunzalik of Dover, N.H.; 13 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, K. Wayne Goodwin of Eliot.

GOODWIN - Curtis T. Goodwin, 38, of 4 Weeman St., Springvale, Maine, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, unexpectedly at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, with a committal service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot to follow. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kenny and Nicole Goodwin Scholarship fund at the Sanford Institute for Savings, c/o Karen Charette, 129 Main St., Springvale, ME 04083.

Peter R. Maines

EL JEBEL, Colo. - Peter Roy Maines, 54, of El Jebel, died Saturday, June 24, 2000.

He was born in 1946, in Flushing, N.Y. In 1978, he married Pamela Hamilton. The first-ever bus to the Maroon Bells was their wedding bus.

He graduated from New Hampshire College with a business degree. He moved to Aspen in 1977. From 1977 to 1993, he was the coordinator for the blind skier program, BOLD. He was employed at RFTA from 1993 until his death.

He was an avid outdoorsman whose goal was to expand the horizons of the "cement city blind" who rarely escape their city environment. Those of us who were fortunate to know Peter will remember his courage, tenacity and integrity. We will also remember his sense of humor and ability to keep things in perspective. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife; stepmother Louise of Rye; brother Carl of Greenland; and several nieces and nephews.

Pamela G. Riley

ROCHESTER - Pamela Griffith Riley, 54, of 5 Hometown Road died Wednesday July 5, 2000, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a long period of illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1945, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Mary (Pelletier) Griffith. She resided in Rochester most of her life, graduating from Spaulding High School, Class of 1963. She received her associate's degree in business from McIntosh College and worked as credit manager for Lydall Technical Papers for 19 years.

She was a certified advanced reiki practitioner, which was very important to her. She loved her dogs, Keva and Emmy, and enjoyed gardening.

She was the wife of Raymond F. Riley of Rochester.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Todd (Wendy) Harris of Merrimack, N.H., and Mrs. Michael (Wanda) Riley Duquette of Rochester; grandsons Cole, Neil and Jesse Harris of Merrimack, and Michael Duquette Jr. of Manchester; brother Robert Griffith of Chapell Hill, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

RILEY - Pamela Griffith Riley, 54, of 5 Hometown Road, Rochester, died July 5, 2000. Family and friends may visit 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. The funeral service will be conducted at 5 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in South Cemetery in South Lyndeborough, N.H., at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Giving Program, Gail Singer Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032.

Warren C. Saltmarsh

HAMPTON - Warren C. Saltmarsh, 88, of 1072 Ocean Blvd., and Hartford, Conn., died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.

Born in Pembroke, N.H., on Nov. 17, 1911, he was the son of the late Fred W. and Birdie E. (Gage) Saltmarsh.

He was a graduate of Pembroke Academy and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Mass., in 1933.

He worked as an insurance executive for Johnson & Higgins of Detroit for 13 years and for Factory Insurance Association of Hartford, Conn., for 28 years, retiring in 1976. As a representative of these companies, his job entailed insuring large commercial industrial corporations.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Suncook and the Unitarian Universalist Church of West Hartford, Conn.

He was a lifelong summer resident of Hampton and served as a director of Godfrey's Ledge Beach Association. He also was a member of the Old Timers Club of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

He was the husband of Doris L. (Shubert) Saltmarsh for 52 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include one son, Robert W. Saltmarsh of San Francisco; two daughters, Elizabeth G. Saltmarsh-Smith and her husband Samuel of Hebron, Conn.; and Joanne D. Oliver of Houston; two grandchildren, Spencer W. Smith and Skyler L. Smith; and two nieces.
