John B. Heeney

KITTERY - John Burns Heeney, 84, a resident of Main Street, formerly of Saco, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Born April 27, 1916, in Biddeford, Maine, he was a son of Roy M. and Jemima Gordon Burns Heeney and attended local schools.

He was a project manager for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 36 years and also involved with the Apprenticeship Program.

He was a former member of the Toastmasters of Portsmouth and former member of the VFW Post of Kittery.

He spent winters in Punta Gorda, Fla., was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading.

He was the husband of Inez Heeney of Kittery for 62 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary H. Cole of Quincy, Mass., and Ann L. Heeney of Damascus, Md.; a sister, Hilda Thornhill of Woodfield, Ohio; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Allan A. Cushing

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mr. Allan A. Cushing, 77, of 281 Sagamore Road, Rye, were held Tuesday from J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. James Church, Portsmouth. The Rev. Agapit H. Jean Jr. was celebrant. Altar servers were Theresa Hickey, Jane Millette, Joanne Greene and Richard Ward. The readings were given by Alana Jackson and Sarah Cushing. A poem was offered by Courtney Cushing and words of remembrance were given by George Cushing. The presentation of the gifts were by Kim and Kelley Cushing. Organist was Jean Goss and Janet Green was soloist. Bearers at the church were Allen Cushing, Stephen Cushing, Frank Trombley, Dennis Mooney, Don Dunton and David Gebhardt.

In attendance were communicants of the church.

Burial was in Central Cemetery, Rye, with committal services by Father Jean. An Honor Guard was formed at the cemetery by a detachment from the 10th Mountain Division, HHS/3-6 Field Artillery, Fort Drum, N.Y., under the direction of 1st Lt. Robert May and including Staff Sgt. Frank Dixon, Sgt. Kevin Strozzi, Sgt. Michael Kirlew, Sgt. Bernard Leighan, Sgt. Adam Green, Spc. Joshua Ferguson, Spc. Thomas York, Pfc. Jeremy Kocinski and Pvt. Jeremiah Keeton.

A volley was fired under the direction of Strozzi, including Leighan, Green, York, Kocinski and Keeton.

The American flag that draped the casket was folded by Dixon and Kirlew, and presented to Mr. Cushing's widow, Mrs. Nina Cushing, by May.

Bearers were Strozzi, Leighan, Green, York, Kocinski and Keeton.

Wake services were held Monday evening at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel by the Rev. Jean.

John E. Lepa

ROCHESTER - John Edward Lepa, 44, died April 27, 2000, in Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

Born in Manchester, he was the son of Joseph A. and Bernadette A. (Tremblay) Lepa. He lived in the Seacoast area for most of his life and currently was a resident of Milton Mills.

He is survived by his brother, Leon J. Lepa of Milton Mills.

John B. Heeney

KITTERY - John Burns Heeney, 84, a resident of Main Street, formerly of Saco, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Born April 27, 1916, in Biddeford, Maine, he was a son of Roy M. and Jemima Gordon Burns Heeney and attended local schools.

He was a former member of the Toastmasters of Portsmouth and former member of the VFW David Loring, who lives in Newbury, experienced firsthand the impact of a train whistle when the commuter rail service was extended from Ipswich to Newburyport two years ago.

Loring, who lives three houses away from the tracks, said he is assaulted by train horns 26 times per day.

``I haven't heard noise like this since I was in a combat zone in Vietnam," he said. ``There's not one room in my house where I can escape it."

Others said the introduction of the train horns in communities that currently ha 2000. A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road Wells, with the Rev. Jim Nelson Howard officiating.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of York, 5 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909, or to the Visiting Nurse Services of Southern Maine, 42 Brickyard Court, York, ME 03909 in Mr. Heeney's memory.

Adolph R. Creighton

HAMPTON - Adolph R. "Red" Creighton, 75, formerly of 340 Lafayette Road, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Manchester.

Born on Jan. 5, 1925, in Pine Bluff, he was the son of Lewis E. and Johnie (Logan) Creighton.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy.

He worked as a machinist's helper at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 20 years, retiring in 1972. He resided in Hampton since 1938, coming from Portsmouth.

He was a member of VFW Post No. 168 of Portsmouth, Piscataqua Chapter DAV No. 4 of Newington and was a member of St. John's Lodge No. 1 A.F & A.M. of Portsmouth.

Family members include two sons, Ronald T. Creighton of Danville, Robert L. Creighton of Canton, Ga.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Warren Creighton and Logan Creighton.

Adeline V. Martin

NEWMARKET - Adeline V. Martin, 89, of South Street, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Exeter Hospital after being stricken ill at her home.

Born June 11, 1910, in Newmarket, she was the daughter of John F. and Rose V. Mullen.

A lifelong resident of Newmarket, she began working in the Newmarket Mills at the age of 14. For many years she was a vamper at Newmarket Shoe and Sam Smith Shoe, both in Newmarket.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Newmarket and a member of the Newmarket Senior Citizens.

Predeceased by her husband, Raymond M. Martin who died in 1966, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Anna T. Barton

MANCHESTER - Anna T. (Barry) Barton, 86, of Manchester, N.H., died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Seacoast Health Center in Hampton, after a long illness.

Born June 19, 1913,in Manchester, she was the daughter of James and Mary Ellen (Murray) Barry and was educated in the Manchester school system. She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.

She raised her family, and also spent many years devoting her time to the elderly and those in need.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Cathedral in Manchester.

She enjoyed spending time with her dear friends at Seacoast Health Center where she spent the last six years of her life.

She was the wife of the late Stanley Barton. He died in 1971.

Members of her family include a daughter, Barbara Barton (Ferland) O'Brien, of Rye; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, James Barry of Manchester; one sister, Theresa McGlone of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Virginia) (Jeanie) McCann, and five siblings.

Theresa D. Young

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Theresa D. (Haynes) Young, 67, the wife of Clarence Joseph "Joe" Young, of 117 Holly Lane, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born on April 12, 1933, in Exeter, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Laura (Portrie) Haynes. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1952.

She was employed by New England Telephone & Telegraph since 1953 starting as an operator and transferring to the Account Department in Manchester and Bedford, in 1977. She retired in December 1991.

She was a life member of the Frank E. Booma Auxiliary Unit No. 6, American Legion and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Local 2320.

Besides her husband, survivors include three sons, Thomas D. Young of Palmyra, Pa.; Joseph H. Young and Robert M. Young, both of Portsmouth; a daughter, Melissa Young Scott of Orange City, Fla.; four grandchildren, Casandra Young of Portsmouth, Krista Scott of Orange City, Fla., Todd Young of Portsmouth, and Nicholas Chesley of Orange City, Fla.

Douglas Rollins Jr.

YORK - Douglas Rollins Jr., 76, of York Harbor, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at his home following a brief illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Paris, he was the son of Douglas and Beatrice Tremaine Rollins. He lived there until the fall of France, coming to this country in August, 1940.

He graduated from St. Paul's School in Concord, and Harvard College, where he was a member of the Iroquois Club, now D.U. He served in the Army 47th Battalion during World War II in the European Theater. He was twice awarded the Croix de Guerre, the first one for translating into French the English directions for the use of radar. The second was awarded by General Charles De Gaulle for solving the enigma of the robbing of supply lines to the French front known as the "Red Ball Express."

He was a resident of Rollinsford for 30 years where he devoted himself to the improvement of the village named for his family. He was a director of the Strafford National Bank in Dover from 1972 to 1991, when it joined the Bank of New Hampshire in Concord. He then served as a member of the Bank of New Hampshire Investment Committee until his retirement. Since 1966, he was the president of Tomhegan Woodlands, Inc. of Tomhegan Township, Maine.

He was a founding member of the Strafford County Regional Planning Committee and of the Strafford Child Guidance Clinic, both in Dover. Dedicated to historic preservation, he was a member of the Northam Colonists of Dover, an incorporator of the Old York Historical Society, and an officer and overseer of Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, and was active in the New Hampshire Republican Party.

He formerly served as senior warden of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Dover, and was a trustee of Trinity Church, York Harbor, until his death. He was a member of the York Harbor Reading Room.

He was the husband of the former Helen Eitel of Louisville, Ky., for 52 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Douglas Rollins III of Milbank, S.D., Paul E. Rollins of York and John G. Rollins of Seattle; three daughters, Helen Rollins Lord of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Alexandra Rollins Upton of Boston; and Elizabeth Rollins Mauran of Providence, R.I.; and nine grandchildren.

George A. O'Brien

ELIOT - Funeral services for George Albert O'Brien, 64, of 9 Heather Road, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Wednesday. The Rev. William Gardei officiated. Mr. O'Brien's grandson Luke Rioux gave words of remembrance.

In attendance were representatives from Emerson Hovey Post No. 168 of Portsmouth and former associates from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Burial was in Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot, with committal services by the Rev. Gardei.

The flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. O'Brien's widow, Pauline Alice (Carrier) O'Brien.

Bearers were Neil Lund, Gary Boire, Tom Markham, Gerry Hickey, Roy Guptill, Barry Bazeley, and Russell Matson.

Donald J. L'Italien

YORK - Funeral services for Donald J. L'Italien, 72, of 2 Victoria Court, and formerly of Portsmouth, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Wednesday, with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Portsmouth. The Rev. Fr. Edward J. Kelley was celebrant. Kyle Belmont was acolyte. Readings were given by Eileen Foley. Suzanne Bove was soloist and Marion Arnoldy was organist.

Burial was in St. Augustine Cemetery in Manchester.

The flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. L'Italien's son, Dennis L'Italien.

Bearers were Mr. L'Italien's five sons, Dennis L'Italien, Mark L'Italien, Brian L'Italien, Bruce L'Italien, Duane L'Italien and his son-in-law, Allen Hardy.

William W. Mozingo

CAPE NEDDICK - William Wiley Mozingo, 42, our loving husband, father, son, brother and friend died unexpectedly Monday, April 24, 2000, at his Cape Neddick home, of a ruptured cerebral hemorrhage.

Mr. Mozingo loved living in Southern Maine near the ocean with his wife, Anne, and son, Wyatt. He was a consummate Southern gentleman.

He enjoyed movies, long walks on the beach, hiking, music and playing with his 17-month-old son.

He was born in Birmingham, Ala., raised in Westport, Conn., and lived more than 15 years in Atlanta.

Mr. Mozingo was an accomplished hospitality executive. He excelled both as an executive chef and as an innkeeper of a Five Diamond resort in Kennebunkport. Early in his career, he was awarded five stars for his cuisine at a Southern Florida restaurant and an Atlanta restaurant.

He joined the White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport as the innkeeper. He successfully operated that property for a period of time, contributing to its status as a highly acclaimed restaurant and inn. He was promoted to the role of innkeeper at the Beachhouse and The Yachtsman Lodge and Marina in the fall of 1999.

"Bill touched all of our lives in different ways. He was a generous, gracious, uncompromising professional who was loved by his employees and colleagues," said Laurence Bongiorno, White Barn Inn owner. "We are deeply, deeply saddened by his loss and we'll miss him."

Mr. Mozingo cherished his immediate and his large extended family.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Murray Mozingo and son, William Wyatt Murray Mozingo, both of Cape Neddick; his parents, James Brantley Mozingo and Wylene (Ryan) Mozingo, of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Edward Allen Mozingo of Lake Wylie, S.C., and James Brantley Mozingo Jr., of Fairfield, Conn.; one sister, Mrs. Brian (Teresa) Sullivan of Reading, Mass.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chester and Marie Murray of Binghamton, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; six nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Carolinas and Alabama.

He was predeceased by his father, Edward Allen Wyatt.
