Pericles T. Madison

NORTH HAMPTON - Pericles T. "Tim" Madison, 72, the husband of Eunice (Diamond) Madison, 32 Mill Road, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.

Born May 3, 1927, in Norwich, Conn., he was the son of Charles and Helen (Valas) Madison.

He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and received his master's degree in business administration from the Wharton Graduate School in Philadelphia.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He was employed as a life insurance salesman for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member and cherished elder of the Associate Bible Students in Hampton. He was also an avid gardener and musician.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, survivors include a son, Charles D. Madison and his wife, Lisa, of Portsmouth; a daughter, Melodie D. Coyman and her husband, Peter, of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Aaron Madison, Caitlin Madison, Philip Wade, Lindsey Wade and Rebecca Coyman; a brother, Ted Madison of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Theophil "Phil" Madison.

Daniel T. Melita

GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. - Daniel T. Melita, 24, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, after a tragic airplane accident.

Born July 26, 1975, in Gloversville, N.Y., he was the son of Thomas J. Melita of Portsmouth, N.H., and Jane McCarthy Melita of Gloversville.

He was a graduate of Gloversville High School. From 1993-1995, he attended Plymouth State College and was a 1998 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in political science.

He was a certified flight instructor for single-engine, multi-engine and instrument flight. He also held a commercial multi-engine rating. He was employed by Richmor Aviation of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., as a flight instructor at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity at UNH, the Plymouth State College Ski Team, and worked summers at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club.

In addition to his parents, survivors include three brothers, Thomas J. Melita III, of Gloversville, John F. Melita of Hampton, N.H., and Timothy J. Melita of Fishers, Ind.; one sister, Linda J. Johnson of Gloversville; aunts, uncles and three nieces; and beloved Megan Easterly.

Alfred T. Iannetti

GREENLAND - The funeral for Alfred T. Iannetti, 81, of 26 Sunset Drive, Greenland, was held Tuesday at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter. The Rev. Wesley Burwell, Seacoast Hospice chaplain, officiated. Private burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Middletown Springs, Vt.

Annie M. Larsen

LEE - Annie M. Larsen, 102, formerly of Concord Road, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Langdon Place of Dover, where she had resided since 1996.

Born May 31, 1897, in Nelson, England, she was the daughter of Fred and Emily (Reed) Harris. At 14 she came by ship to New Bedford, Mass. to stay with her aunt. She worked in the cotton mills there.

She moved to New York, where she met and married Oswald Larsen in 1927. They then moved to Providence, R.I. where they had their only daughter, Norma. He was in the Coast Guard and after retiring, they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. where they lived for 20 years.

While living in St. Petersburg she was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Retired Officers Association.

In 1969, they moved to Hampton, and then in 1989 to Lee to be near their daughter. While living in Lee she attended the Lee Church Congregational.

She was the holder of the Boston Post Cane in Lee, where it was presented to her in March 1994.

She was the wife of the late Oswald E. Larsen, Lt. USCG, Retired, who died in 1993.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Oliver G. Pratt of Lee; three grandchildren, Oliver (Terry) Pratt of Eastport, Maine, Candace Pratt Stiteler of Lee, and Heather Pratt Larsen of Owings, Md; three great-grandchildren, Peter Larsen Seavey and Christina Marie Seavey, both of Lee, and Grace Marie Larsen of Owings, Md.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Norma L. Pratt, who died in 1995.

Lyford B. Young

YORK - Lyford B. Young, 63, of 60 Lewis Road, Kittery, the husband of Carol (Moore) Young, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Vinalhaven, Maine, he was the son of Hiram A. Sr. and Dorothy (Philbrook) Young.

He worked for many years for the State of New Hampshire in the bridge maintenance department.

He was a member and board member of the South Berwick Rod and Gun Club, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the Sports Alliance of Maine.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed being with his family, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivor include a son, Scott L. Young and his wife, Michelle, of Portsmouth; two daughters, Kimberly A. Dailey and her husband, Paul, of South Berwick, and Kristin A. Liberman and her husband, Evan, of Falmouth, Mass.; three brothers, Hiram A. Young Jr. of Eliot; Richard Young of Towns River, N.J., and Art Young of York; two grandchildren, Amy and Andrew Young of Portsmouth; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy G. Pryor

EXETER - Dorothy G. Pryor, 83, of 7 RiverWoods Drive, formerly of Hobbs Road, Hampton, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at the Monadnock Lodge at RiverWoods.

Born June 6, 1916, in Lynn, Mass., she was the daughter of Louis M. and Mabel (Towle) Griffin.

She was raised in Danville and graduated from the former Sanborn Seminary in Kingston as class valedictorian in 1934. She was also a 1938 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.

She worked as secretary to the president and dean of UNH until 1954.

She resided on Dover Point before the family moved to Hampton in the early 1950s. She resided in Hampton until moving to RiverWoods in 1997.

She also held various secretarial jobs including working for the Rockingham County Extension Service until the mid 196's, and was a longtime employee of Northeast Auctions in Hampton. She was a longtime member of the First Union Church of North Danville.

She was the wife of Charles E. Pryor, who died in 1978.

Survivors include two sons; Philip E. Pryor, and Donald L. Pryor; two granddaughters, Kristen A. Pryor, and Ashley M. Pryor; a brother, Forest Griffin; and a sister, Louise G. Feldmann.

She was predeceased by a son, Ralph Pryor, who died in 1964.

Gertrude M. McCollett

YORK - Gertrude M. McCollett, 74, of 26 Wilson Road, Kittery, the widow of Clifford McCollett, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born June 25, 1925, in Southport, Maine, she was the daughter of George W. and Mary (Whittem) Harnish.

She was known for raising poodles and Yorkshire Terriers.

She is survived by a son, John McCollett of Kittery; a sister, Laura Ayer, of Kittery; a grandson, Clifford P.M. McCollett, of Kittery; and many nieces and nephews.

Sister Mary C. Flynn

WATERVILLE, Maine - Sister Mary Cecilia Flynn, CSJ, 86, died March 30, 2000, at Mount St. Joseph.

She was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of Leo and Helena Ward Flynn, and attended St. Patrick School in Portsmouth and the Academy of St. Joseph in South Berwick. She also attended Our Lady of Mercy College in Portland.

She entered the Congregation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon, France, in 1931 and made her profession in 1933.

She taught at St. Anthony School in Jackman, Maine, Holy Family School in Lewiston, Maine, St. John's School in Winslow, Maine, St. Rose of Lima School in Jay, Maine, and Sacred Heart School in Auburn, Maine.

She taught religions education and did pastoral ministry at St. Mary's Parish in Presque Isle, Maine, Sacred Heart Parish and St. Rose of Lima.

She also served as cook at St. Joseph's Convent in Auburn and as pastoral minister at Mount St. Joseph.

Sister Flynn retired to Fontbonne Community in Waterville in 1996.

She is a survived by a sister, Margaret Stevens of Rochester.

She was predeceased by her brothers Bernard Flynn, George Flynn, Herbert Flynn and a sister, Erlene Flynn. She had many nieces and nephews.

Robert Lambert

TEQUESTA, Fla. - Robert Lambert, 80, of 18081 S.E. Country Club Drive No. 172, Tequesta, Fla. died Monday, March 28, 2000, at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida after a brief period of illness.

Born June 9, 1919, in Gorham, N.H., he was the son of Louis Lambert and Flora (Roberge) Lambert. He was a leading man electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring after 27 years of government service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a semiprofessional big band musician, in which he enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone.

He was the husband of his beloved wife, Ruth M. Lambert for two-and-a-half years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, R. Rex Lambert and wife, Judith Lambert, of York; a daughter, Carol Gamester and husband, Peter Gamester, of New Castle; a brother, Romeo Lambert of York; and a sister, Pauline Thibeault of York Beach; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline (Flibotte) Lambert of 57 years in 1996.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Gertrude M. Rafferty

PORTSMOUTH - Gertrude M. (Gert) Herlihy Rafferty, 91, formerly of 488 Sagamore Ave., died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home, 346 Pleasant St.

Born Nov. 29, 1908, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Cronin) Herlihy, and was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth. She was a graduate St. Patrick School was a 1928 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

She worked at Borthwick's department store, attended Quincy School of Nursing for a year, and was a telephone operator at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

She was the wife of the late Terrance P. (Terry) Rafferty for 61 years.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Rosemarie and William F. O'Reilly of Houston; two grandchildren, James and Crystal; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, John, Harold and Thomas Herlihy; two sisters, Catherine Connors and Marion Vliet; and a beloved niece, Mary Herlihy Parsons.

Gertrude E. Smith

NEWMARKET - Gertrude E. Smith, 88, of 9 Grant Road, and formerly of Dover, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at The Pines.

Born July 17, 1911, in Randolph, Maine, she was the daughter of Edward and Sarah Anne (Ridley) Crossman. Raised in Maine, she lived in Lynn, Mass., and Ipswich, Mass., for 20 years, and in Dover for the past 18 years.

She and her husband wintered in Bradenton, Fla., and moved to Newmarket this past August.

While living in Massachusetts, she attended the Methodist Church in Lynn and Ipswich.

She enjoyed playing the piano, and did so for many years.

She was the wife of A. Huntley Smith for 69 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include five children, Elaine G. Graves of Rochester, Helen A. MacWhinnie of Ipswich, Mass., Huntley E. Smith of Swampscott, Mass., Arlene A. Jewett of Raymond, and Edward A. Smith of East Kingston; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
