Marie R. Ainsleigh
NORTH CONWAY - Marie R. Ainsleigh of North Conway, died November 15, 2000 at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway, following a long illness. She was 87. Born in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Leo and Mary (Haggerty) Bailey, she lived in Quincy, Mass. for 22 years and Braintree, Mass. for 35 years. She also lived in Largo, Fla. for eight years and in Brockton, Mass. for 17 years before moving to North Conway in 1997.
Ms. Ainsleigh was a graduate of North Quincy High School, class of 1931.
The Braintree Police Department had employed her as a crossing guard for seven years.
The family includes two daughters, Virginia M. Dionne of Brunswick, Maine, and Marjorie R. Brown of Twin Mountain; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack R. Ainsleigh, in 1998.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and she was an active volunteer at the veteran's hospital in Brockton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in St. Margaret's Cemetery in Twin Mountain at 12:30 p.m. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Elton M. "Sam" Drown
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - Elton M. "Sam" Drown, 75, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at a Portland hospital.
He was born in Bartlett, a son of Roy and Myrtle (McKinley) Drown, and was educated in Bartlett schools. He graduated from Bartlett High School.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years during World War II aboard the USS Washburn.
Mr. Drown was employed for 42 years by the Maine Central Railroad, 10 years as a rules examiner and 32 years as an engineer.
He was a charter member of the VFW in Bartlett, and was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge of South Portland.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, golf and camping.
In his younger days, he was a ski instructor at Mount Cranmore in Conway, and at one time he owned his own airplane.
He was predeceased by a son, Clifton (Rip) Drown.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Georgia (Springer) Drown of South Portland; two daughters, Nadean H. Merriman of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Kathleen M. Beaumont of South Portland; one sister, Priscilla Ward of Madison; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
Harriet J. Hamaker Hampson
KEARSARGE - Harriet J. Hamaker Hampson, 78, passed away on Oct. 7, 2000.
The daughter of Millard and Ruth Hamaker, she was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Jan. 3, 1922. She was raised and schooled in Canton, Ohio.
Mrs. Hampson resided with her husband, George, and three children in Hancock, NH, for 35 years. She attended Keene State College, was a children's librarian at the Hancock Town Library and became the first woman elected as chairperson of the church council serving the Hancock First Congregational Church. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, collecting ink wells and old bottles, studying family genealogy and was an avid reader.
After moving to Ohio in 1985, she retired to Kearsarge in 1988. She joined a local aerobics class, volunteered at the Conway Public Library for many years and continued with other avocations, all of which brought her great joy.
She is survived by daughter Gaie Mitchell of Conway; son Guy Hampson of Portsmouth; daughter Gwen Kenney of Exeter; one grandson and three granddaughters. A memorial service will be conducted at the First Congregational Church in Hancock at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Irving A. Walker
LOVELL, Maine - Irving A. Walker, 39, of Sabattus Road in Lovell, died unexpectedly Nov. 13, 2000, at his home.
He was born in North Conway, the son of William and Laura Thurston Walker. He was a lifelong resident of Lovell and graduated from Fryeburg Academy, class of 1980. He was a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.
He is survived by his mother, his wife, Carol Bresette Walker, two daughters, Brittany S. Walker and Chelsey R. Walker, and two step-daughters, Sarah Farrington and Ashlee Farrington, all of Lovell; one brother, Dwight W. Walker, of Fryeburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Neil Donna Wilson, of Bluffton, Ind., and Mrs. James Edith Day, of Stow, Maine.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Center Lovell Fire Station, with the Rev. Neil Wilson and Rev. Violet Eastman.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Lovell Fire Department, P.O. Box 37, Center Lovell, Maine 04016.

Koty Tonka Walden
Koty Tonka Walden, 15-month-old son of Duane and Melissa (Blasco) Walden, died November 8, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
Koty was born August 18, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
The family includes: his parents of Conway; his maternal grandparents, David and Linda Blasco of Middletown, Conn.; his paternal grandmother, Violet E. Walden of Portland Conn.; his maternal great grandparents, Edward and Elizabeth Blasco of Cromwell, Conn. and Ernest and Irene Speiss of Bristol, Conn. and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Donald E. Walden, Sr. in 1998.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Conway Village Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. The Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway, is in charge of the arrangements.
Frances T. "Terry" Blais
Frances T. "Terry" Blais, 76, of North Conway, died November 11, 2000 at her home after a long illness. Born in Lawrence, Mass, the daughter of Joseph and Bernadette (Perry) Chaisson, she lived in Salem, NH, for 26 years before moving to North Conway in 1972.
Mrs. Blais was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish in North Conway.
The family includes: her husband of 54 years, Alcide C. Blais of North Conway; a son, Gary S. Blais of Falmouth, Maine; two daughters, Gail B. Jones of Madison and Bonnie L. Togliatti of Berwick, Maine; four granddaughters, Amanda McDonald and Courtney Jones, both of Conway and Allison and Abby Togliatti, both of Berwick, Maine; two great grandsons; a brother, Albert Chaisson of Lawrence, Mass; three sisters, Lorraine Peters and Pauline Dalton, both of Methuen, Mass. and Delores Johnson of Lawrence, Mass. and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 am in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Mountains Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in Conway.

Beatrice A. Butterfield
LACONIA - Mrs. Beatrice A. Butterfield, 106, of Laconia, died Nov. 7, 2000, at the Belknap County Nursing Home after a period of failing health.
She had been a resident of the nursing home for seven years.
She was born Oct. 2, 1894, in Bartlett, the daughter of Joseph T. and Annie (Byatt) Aldridge. She grew up in Bartlett and attended local schools. While in Bartlett, she was the organist at the Congregational Church and belonged to the Pythian Sisters and the Rebekahs.
She married Pearlon Butterfield in 1912.
After moving to Laconia in 1954, Mrs. Butterfield continued her lifelong avocation as a homemaker and seamstress. She was a member of the Evangelical Baptist Church where she took part in many of the activities, including the Winning Class and the Missionary Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Ainsworth, of Laconia, and Annie McAuliffe, of Gilford; eight grandchildren, John Monahan and Robert Davis, both of Laconia, William Ainsworth, Herbert Ainsworth and Dana Ainsworth, all of Belmont, Marsha MacNeil, of Cape Coral, Fla., Joan Chagnon, of Londonderry, and John McAuliffe, of Alton; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Pearlon R. Butterfield; a son, George Butterfield; and a grandson, Douglas Ainsworth.
Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Carriage House of Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. John Hillyer, pastor of the Evangelical Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in the family lot in Bartlett Cemetery.

J. Lee Neil
CONWAY - J. Lee Neil, 92, died peacefully on Nov. 5, 2000, in the Merriman House in North Conway.
Born at home in Oreana, Idaho, on July 15, 1908, he is the last to pass of six siblings.
Elder J. Lee Neil served many pastorates for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church from California to Louisiana to the Eastern Seaboard for more than 40 years. He climbed Mount Whitney with Hulder Crooks 12 consecutive years after age 70 and celebrated his 90th birthday by climbing the Amonuseg trail up Mount Washington. He was known at the Merriman House for his generous hugs and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Grace (Ames) Neil, wife and mother of his children, predeceased J. Lee in 1991. He is survived by his wife Lois Neil of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Barbara Lacy and Esther Ames of Loma Linda, Calif.; a son, Jay L. Neil of Jackson; his grandchildren, Sherilyn Johnson and David Lacy of Collegedale, Tenn., Wenda Lacy and Joel Neil of Georgia,, Darrell Lacy of Washington DC, Jay L. Neil Jr. of Asheville, N.C., June Dysinger of Concord, Robin Burley of North Carolina, and Tonya Burley of Loma Linda, Calif.; 16 great-grandchildren and many step children.
There will be two memorial services. The first will be Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Conway Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The family requests support of the Merriman House J. Lee Neil Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers. A second memorial service will be at a later date in Collegedale, Tenn.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee is in charge of the arrangements.
William B. "Brad" Huddleston Sr.
NORTH CONWAY William B. "Brad" Huddleston Sr., 88, died Nov. 3, 2000, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway after a short illness.
He was born in Boston, Mass., on May 15, 1912, the son of William C. and Anna W. (Peterson) Huddleston. He attended Boston schools and was a graduate of Lowell Institute. He worked as a safety engineer for Liberty Mutual in Manchester, NH, Hartford, Conn., and Buffalo, NY, retiring after 35 years of service. Some of his fondest memories were servicing the logging operations in northern New Hampshire.
He was a registered professional engineer in New Hampshire and a life member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
He had a lifelong love of music. He played with the Buffalo Banjo Band, sang in church choirs and arranged music for the banjo. He also enjoyed shooting at the Tonawanda (NY) Sportsman's Club. He was active in several Episcopal churches, service as vestryman, warden and music director. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in North Conway. He was also a 50-year member of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 61 F&AM in Manchester.
He moved to North Conway in September 1992 and resided at Pinewood Apartments for several years before living with his son in Chocorua.
The family includes his son, William B. Huddleston Jr., and his wife, Peg, of Chocorua; a grandson, Carl Huddleston, of Chocorua; a granddaughter, Barbara Morgan, of Deering; and five great-grandchildren.
His wife, Marjorie, predeceased him in 1986.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, with the Rev. Jack Haney, rector, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tamworth Community Nurse Association, Tamworth, NH 03886.
