Aida Daghlian-Chareth

HAMPTON FALLS - Aida Daghlian-Chareth, 40, of Hampton Falls, died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000.

She was born in Aleppo, Syria. She was the daughter of the Rev. Arshag and Yeretzgeen Lucy (Baghdassarian) Daghlian of North Andover.

She was educated in Aleppo and Lebanon. She came to this country in 1967. She graduated from Lawrence High School and Merrimack College, where she received her bachelor's degree in English.

She taught Sunday school at St. Gregory Armenian Church in North Andover. She was active in all children's projects at local schools in Hampton Falls, and she was an active community volunteer in Hampton Falls. She was active in the Armenian Youth Federation in North Andover.

She worked at Dynamic Research in Andover as a technical writer for six years. Most recently, she was an assistant teacher in Hampton Falls and Seabrook school systems.

She was the wife of Brad D. Chareth for 12 years.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she is survived by a son, Boghos "Paul" Daghlian-Chareth of Hampton Falls; two daughters, Aleen Lucy and Annie Olivia Daghlian-Chareth of Hampton Falls; a brother John Daghlian; three sisters, Sonia, Nora, and Houry, all of North Andover; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen L. Devereux

HONOLULU - Helen Louise Devereux, 93, died Jan. 19, 2000, in Honolulu.

She was born in Portsmouth, and was a resident of Honolulu since 1944. She was an editor for military newspapers. She is survived by five nieces and nephews, and three cousins.

Susan H. Pafford

PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Susan H. (Hutchinson) Pafford, 78, of 24 Johnson Court, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born May 5, 1921, in Kittery Point, she was the daughter of the late Alvin W. and Katherine (Daley) Hutchinson. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School.

She was a member of the Portsmouth City Republican Committee and was an avid baseball fan.

She was the wife of the late Ernest H. Pafford, who died in 1975.

Survivors include two sons, James E. Pafford of Greenland, and R. Bruce Pafford of Portsmouth; one daughter, Cindy Vinciguerra of Portsmouth; two granddaughters; seven grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Frampton of New Castle, and Ramona Sheperd of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother, Ray Hutchinson of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, William V. Pafford, and grandson, Jay Vinciguerra.

Philip R. Henderson

YORK - Philip Roberts Henderson, 83, of 21 Raydon Road, and formerly of South Berwick, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born Sept. 11, 1916, in Rollinsford, N.H., he was the son of Wilbur A. and Clara H. (Roberts) Henderson. He graduated from Berwick Academy and from the University of New Hampshire.

A veteran, he served in the Army during World War II.

He was owner and operator of The Snack Bar of South Berwick for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was former treasurer of the Sewer District for the town of South Berwick. He was a member of the St. John's Masonic Lodge and the South Berwick Board of Trade.

He moved to York in 1987 from South Berwick.

He was the husband of Alma (Lawton) Henderson of York.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Jan, of York; and a sister, Ruth H. Caine of York.

John C. McNeil

ROCHESTER, N.H. - John C. McNeil, 82, of 70 Riverview Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 15, 1917, in Portsmouth, he was the son of James A. and Ellen (Corkery) McNeil. He had been living in Rochester since 1947, moving from Portsmouth.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army, 197th coast artillery, in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 7 as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Farmington, N.H.

He was the husband of the late Priscilla (Labranch) McNeil, who died in 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald McNeil of Rye, and Paul McNeil of Barrington, N.H.; four grandchildren; a very close friend, Anne Marie Beaudoin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph W. Ruginski

PORTSMOUTH - Mr. Joseph W. Ruginski, 80, of 188 Jones Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Portsmouth.

Born Jan. 8, 1920, in Hanover, Mass., he was the son of John and Melvina Ruginski.

He served in the Merchant Marines. He worked for U.S. Lines and before retiring was the president and secretary treasurer of the Staff Officers Association of America.

He was a member of the first graduating class of Marine physician assistants from the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Staten Island, N.Y. He was also a member of the Propeller Club.

Survivors include a brother, Walter J. Ruginski of Florida; two sisters, Jennie Comoletti of Plymouth, Mass., and Helen Sarras of Bridgewater, Mass.

Gertrude A. Drusendahl

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Gertrude Alice Harmon Drusendahl, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at her home following a lengthy period of illness.

Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Derby, Maine, she was the daughter of William and Laurice Jackson Harmon. She attended schools in Derby, Milo and Kittery, Maine. A 1943 graduate of Robert Traip Academy in Kittery, she attended MacIntosh Business School.

Until her marriage, she had worked as a drafting clerk at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She lived in Kittery Point until 1961, then moved to Keene, where she lived until 1966; she had been a resident of Manchester since 1966.

She was a former member of the Keene Congregational Church and the First Christian Church of Kittery Point; there, she was also a member of the First Christian Church Amicus Club. She was a member and past president of the Yankee Division Veterans Auxiliary of Portsmouth, and was a former Cub Scout den mother and assistant Brownie leader.

In Manchester, she served as a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center with more than 1,000 hours of service, and was a member of Ruth Chapter No. 16, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member, since 1968, of the First Congregational Church and the Morning Circle of the church.

Her interests included writing poetry, collecting dolls and painting china.

She was the wife of Alvin H. Drusendahl of Manchester for 54 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include four children, Caroline Bond of Merrimack, N.H., John Drusendahl of Sutton, N.H., Dr. Peggy Albertson of Bedford, N.H., and Bruce Drusendahl of Manchester, N.H.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Ames of Pittsfield, Maine; a brother, John Harmon of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Patricia A. Scalera

HAMPTON - The funeral for Patricia A. Scalera, 53, of Driftwood Road, was held Wednesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Daniel J. Sinibaldi, associate pastor, was the celebrant. Nelson K. Ward was organist and Patricia Mackensen was soloist. Acolytes were Paul Sullivan, George Brown and Robert Grissemeer. Her husband, Stephen E. Scalera, and her three sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen M. and Julie Scalera, Kevin R. Scalera and Jonathan E. Scalera, placed the pall on the casket. The readings were offered by son Stephen and brother-in-law Robert Tobiasz. Her three sons presented the gifts to the altar. Her husband and her two sisters, Elizabeth Tobiasz and Kathleen Lewis, offered words of remembrance. Burial followed in High Street Cemetery with the Rite of Committal by Father Sinibaldi. Pallbearers were Joseph Bassi, Jonathan Bassi, Arthur Silvia, John Anderson, Eugene Massa and Scott Tobiasz.

Barbara A. Bibbins

EXETER - The funeral for Barbara A. Bibbins, 50, of 13 Joslin Road, East Kingston, was held Wednesday from the Stockbridge Funeral Home. Services were held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Exeter. Bishop Russell Curlee conducted the service. Organists were Betsy Hersam and Joanne Bagley. Soloist was Debbie Marcotte. Words of remembrance were offered by Kitsie Willis, Mel Edwards, Amy Edwards and Sandy Deane. Invocation was by Robert Hersman and the benediction was by Nat Potts. Spring burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Kingston.

Gene F. Watson Sr.

PORTSMOUTH - Gene F. Watson Sr., of 245 Middle St., died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Dec. 31, 1936, in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Julia Small and John S. Watson of Portsmouth.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He was the husband of the late Carolyn "Cookie" Watson.

Survivors include three sons, John S. Watson and his wife, Cheryl, of Eliot, Gene F. Watson Jr. and his wife, Eryn, of Rochester, N.H., and Glenn B. Watson of Portsmouth; a daughter, Juliann Watson of Portsmouth; two sisters, Altona Mahan and Ruth Small, both of Portsmouth; two brothers, Robert Watson of Millsboro, Del., and Roland Watson of Dover, N.H.; three granddaughters, Jennifer Marie Watson of Bremerton, Wash., Heather Ann Watson and Chelsea Katherine Watson, both of Eliot; a grandson, Jeff Aaron Main of Eliot; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in the spring.

Thomas J. McLaren Sr.

HAMPTON - Thomas J. McLaren Sr., 65, of Hampton, died, Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born March 10, 1934, in Lynn, Mass., the son of Thomas and Della (Nolan) McLaren.

He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Lynn, Mass. and Boston College with a bachelor's degree in economics.

He had a lifelong career with General Electric Company as a marketing manager, retiring in 1993.

He was very active with the Boston College Athletic Association and was an avid sports fan, enjoyed traveling and being out on the ocean.

Surviving family members include three sons, Thomas J. McLaren, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie of Hampton, Timothy J. McLaren of York, and Tobey J. McLaren of Exeter; seven grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Lee Gray of Hampton; his former wives, Claudette McLaren of Hampton and Lynn McLaren of Exeter.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert McLaren.

Robert G. Simmons

HAMPTON - Robert G. Simmons, 27, of 803 Ocean Blvd., died suddenly Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at his residence.

He was born in Kittery on Sept. 19, 1972, the son of William J. and Donna (Gardner) Simmons of Alfred, Maine.

He was a 1990 graduate of Spaulding High School in Rochester, and a 1994 graduate of New England College at Henniker with a bachelor's degree in accounting.

He worked for MediaOne for the past two years as a database designer. He also was working for Fidelity Investments as a consultant for the past year and a half.

He enjoyed surfing, sky diving, karate, yoga, and most of all music with emphasis on the drums, keyboard and flute.

In addition to his beloved parents, surviving family members include, a beloved sister, Deanie Cleveland and her husband Scott of Rochester; beloved paternal grandparents, Robert G. and Elaine E. Simmons of Faribault, Minn; beloved paternal great-grandmother, Cecilia Rose Simmons of Faribault, Minn., and a beloved niece, Julie Cleveland of Rochester and a beloved nephew, Cody Cleveland of Rochester; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Margaret V. Whicher

YORK - Margaret V. "Ginny" Whicher, 77, of Route 103 in York, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born in Norwood, Mass. on February 20, 1922, she was the daughter of Stanley and Margaret (Pearson) Howard. She attended local schools and graduated from Ipswich High School. She later graduated from Nasson College in Springvale, Maine.

She and her husband resided in Eliot, for 20 years, before moving to York in 1968.

She was the home economics teacher in York High School for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of the First Parish Church in York. She enjoyed cooking, all types of needle work and her many students.

She was the wife of the late Theron O. Whicher.

She is survived by her son Stanley and his wife, Annette Whicher of So. Berwick; two grandsons, Casey Whicher and Ryan Whicher; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Marion Whicher of Dade City, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Theron O. Whicher.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the First Parish Church, York Street in York. Burial will follow in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.

Marie E. Hardy

WILMINGTON, Mass. - Marie E. (McBride) Hardy, 99, formerly of Medford and Malden, Mass., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000 after a brief illness at the Sunbridge for Wilmington Facility.

Born in Boston on Aug. 21, 1900, she was the daughter of Hugh P. and Mary (Conroy) McBride. She graduated from Girls High School in Boston. She moved to Medford when she married and lived there until 1972, then moved to Kittery, where she resided until moving to Malden, Mass. in 1990 and then to Melrose, Mass. in 1994. She was a homemaker.

She was the wife of the late Charles S. Hardy.

Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Gillespie of Kittery, and Ann P. Sacco of Reading, Mass.; a son Paul C. Hardy of Malden, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
