Everett C. Pillsbury

PENOSBSCOT, Maine - Everett Clyde Pillsbury, 73, of Penobscot, Maine, and LaBelle, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Fort Myers, Fla.

Born May 22, 1926, in Rangeley, Maine, he was the son of the late Clyde Fred PIllsbury and Irene Lola (Wilbur) Pillsbury.

After serving in the Navy during World War II, he attended the University of Maine at Orono, graduating with degrees in business administration and economics.

He retired in 1988 from Fleet Bank (formerly Indian Head Bank).

He was a member of the Rising Star Lodge No. 117 A.F. & A.M. of Penobscot, Bektash Shrine of Nashua, N.H., American Legion Post No. 35 of Hampton, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10100 of LaBelle.

He was an honorary member of LaBelle Lodge 379 F. & A.M.

He was the husband of Patricia Anne (Bradbury) Pillsbury for 53 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Peter Alan Pillsbury of Keene, N.H.;
three daughters, Ann Wood of Independence, Ore., Susan Carol Pillsbury of Manchester, N.H., and Peggy Jane Schlayer of Portsmouth;
six grandchildren, Shane Pillsbury-Flood, Erica Wood, Loghen Pillsbury, Alex Pillsbury, Dustin Schlayer and Mitchel Schlayer.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Ellen Pillsbury.

Marvis R. Dodge

ELIOT - Mrs. Marvis R. (Smith) Dodge, 79, of 289 State Road, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home.

Born May 2, 1920, in Bristol, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Ray and Evelyn (Longfellow) Smith.

She attended Bristol schools.

For more than 25 years, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Portsmouth Junior High School.

She was the wife of the late Harold Dodge, who died in 1956.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn R. Wyatt of Portsmouth;
two grandchildren, Elizabeth Dodier and Robert H. Wyatt, both of Eliot; three great-grandchildren;
a brother, Lyndon Smith of Bristol;
and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Lyndon Dodge.

Arthur Howker

HOWKER - Arthur W., formerly of Elm Drive, York, Maine, died Dec. 31, 1999, in Newburyport, Mass.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York.

Visiting hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 5:45 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Country Manor Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 180 Low St., Newburyport, MA 01985.

June W. Connell

AMESBURY, Mass. - June W. (Taylor) Connell, 78, of 58 Glen Devin, died Saturday morning, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home.

Born June 24, 1921, in Amesbury, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Elizabeth G. (Tracy) Taylor.

She was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1938.

An avid golfer, she was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club for many years.

She was the wife of the late William H. Connell Sr., who died Feb. 6, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, William H. Connell Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Amesbury, and David A. Connell, also of Amesbury
two grandchildren, Courtney E. and Sean T. Connell, both of Amesbury;
two sisters, Betty Pike and her husband, Sherman, of Charlemont, Mass., and Ruth LeDuc and her husband, Al, of Salem, Mass.;
and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, David Taylor, and a sister, Mary Nagle.

Norman R. Lord

ELIOT - Norman R. Lord, 67, of 56 Main St., died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at home after a long period of illness.

Born Oct. 20, 1932, in Newbury, Mass., he was the son of Harold and Dorothy (Weare) Lord.

He was a 1950 graduate of Winnacunnet High School in Hampton.

He served in the Navy from 1952 to 1957.

For many years, he owned and operated L & L Office Equipment of Portsmouth, and continued to operate the business from his home.

Before starting his business, he worked for Western Union.

Before moving to Eliot in 1984, he resided in Newburyport, Mass., Hampton and York.

He was a member of the Eliot Congregational Church, the American Legion of Eliot, the Eliot Independent Artillery, the Portsmouth Moose and the Knights of Columbus.

He was a past president of the Newburyport Kiwanis Club and the New England Office Machine Dealers Association.

He was the husband of Kathryn B. (Krupski) Lord of Eliot.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Steven R. Lord and his wife, Paula, of Stratham, and Douglas A. Lord and his wife, Carol, of Brookfield, Mass.;
a daughter, Tracy A. Johnston of New York;
a stepson, Robert V. Emery and his wife, Cindy, of Barrington; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sam (Kellie) Brophy of Eliot;
two brothers, Harold "Buddy" Lord of Florida and Donald "Sonny" Lord of Exeter;
three sisters, Esther Janvrin and Ruth Pelton, both of Hampton Falls, and Dorothy Wheeler, of Charleston, Vt.;
eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert G. Davies

HAMPTON FALLS - Robert G. Davies, 71, of 1 Kensington Road, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.

Born July 18, 1928, in Exeter, he was the son of Pearl M. (Smith) Davies of Brentwood and the late Arthur A. Davies.

A 1946 graduate of the former Sanborn Seminary, he was raised in Fremont and had resided in Hampton Falls since 1948.

A veteran of the Armed Forces, he served with the Army in Japan from 1946 to 1948 and with the Naval Reserve in the Seabees during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

He served the town of Hampton Falls as a founding member of the Hampton Falls Fire Department from 1948 to 1984.

He was the fire chief for the last six years with the department.

He was also appointed to serve as deputy state forest fire warden for many years.

He worked most of his life as an automotive mechanic, working for Berry Transportation from 1959 to 1984 and earlier for several service stations, garages and dealerships.

He enjoyed family activities and hunting.

He was the husband of Marjorie P. (Merrill) Davies for 51^4 years.

In addition to his wife and mother, family members include two sons, Robert Davies Jr. of West Nottingham and Russell A. Davies of Hampton Falls;
two daughters, Janet E. Davies of Hampton Falls and Carol A. Melia of Northwood;
five grandchildren, Robert Davies III, Nathan Davies, Amanda Davies, Darcy Melia and Bridget Melia;
three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Standish of Lehigh Acres, Fla.;
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased in death by a daughter, Barbara, in 1979, and by his brothers, Norman and Richard, and his sister, Marjorie.

Arthur W. Howker

YORK - Arthur W. Howker, 91, formerly of Elm Drive, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Newburyport, Mass.

Born Sept. 27, 1908, in Methuen, Mass., he was the son of Edwin and Maria (Clamp) Howker.

A graduate of Wentworth Technical Institute in Boston, he had resided in York for 59 years.

For 25 years, he was a draftsman at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit and a member of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge in York and a member of Knights Templar.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing the banjo.

He was the husband of 64 years to the late Mary J. (McDonald) Howker, who died in 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Kidd and her husband, James, of West Newbury, Mass., Beverly Clack and her husband, Curry Hutchinson, of Brentwood, Calif.;
four grandchildren, Jeffrey Kidd, Stephen Kidd, Kristin Kidd Taylor and Glenn Thompson;
and five great-grandchildren.

Elaine R. Shea

PORTSMOUTH - Elaine R. Shea, 90, of Middle Street, formerly of Newington, went to be with Jesus on Friday, Dec. 31, 1999.

She was born in Patten, Maine, Jan. 8, 1909, the daughter of the late Robert E. and Ellen (Clark) Birmingham.

Mrs. Shea moved to Newington in 1968, coming from Presque Isle, Maine, and continued to spend her summers at Long Lake in Sinclair, Maine.

She was a former member of the Sinclair Senior Citizens Club and the Newington Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary.

She also played the piano at the Church of Jesus in Presque Isle, Maine, for many years.

She was the wife of the late Andrew R. Shea, who has been waiting in Heaven since 1996 with open arms for his loving wife of 59 years.

Family members include two daughters, Donna L. Greenier and Gayna R. Thomas, both of Newington; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Giles of South Casco, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
