John G. Vachon

BERLIN, NH--Mr. John G. Vachon, 44, of 412 Goebel Street, Berlin, NH, passed away on Saturday evening, January 28, 2006 surrounded by his family at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, following a long illness. He was born in St. Hyacinthe, P.Q. Canada, on June 16, 1961 and was a lifelong resident of Berlin. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Vachon was employed as a truck driver for his father, Jules Vachon, and for other local trucking businesses. Even though John was sick, he enjoyed life to the fullest. John enjoyed being around people, being in the public and making people laugh. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and had played in the youth group at St. Anne Church. He had a very good voice.
Members of the family include his wife, Nancy (Poirier) Vachon of Berlin; his parents, Jules and Barbara (Jeffers) Vachon of Berlin; a son, Johnathan Fortier of Oxnard Naval Base, California; a brother, Yvan Vachon and his wife Debbie of Conway, NH; a sister, Lisa Cawley and her husband Mason of Talking Rock, Georgia; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant Street, Berlin, NH. Interment will be in the St. Kieran Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH, on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Anyone who wishes may make a donation in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation.

Donald F. Harris

Mr. Donald F. Harris, age 86, of Berlin, NH, and Deerfield Beach, FL, passed away Monday morning January 30, 2006 at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, NH.
He was born the son of the late Patrick Harris and Bessie (Dutton) on January 21, 1920 in Berlin, NH.
He married Irene C. Poirier November 19, 1944 in San Antonio, TX, and she preceded him in death 1n 1995.
Mr. Harris served as a sergeant in the US Army with Company I86th Mountain Infantry Regiment. While serving his country in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters, Mr. Harris was awarded the Purple Heart twice and the Bronze Star Medal.
He worked at Brown Company for many years and in the Digester House as a cook’s assistant and retired in 1982.
After retiring, Mr. Harris spent the winter months in Deerfield Beach, FL.
He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, the American Legion Post #36 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2797 all of Berlin, NH.
His family includes two sons, Gerry Harris and his wife Sue of Berlin, NH, and Ken Harris of Concord, NH; two granddaughters, Shelley Harris of Lake Winnipesauke, NH, and Kari Parent and her husband Jason of Belmont, NH; two great-grandsons, Harrison and Hayden Parent; nieces and nephews, and his very special friend, Sophie Riendeau.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
Arrangements are by Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Berlin, NH.

Florian J. Tremaine

BERLIN, NH--Mr. Florian J. Tremaine, 76, formerly of 492 Burgess Street, Berlin, NH, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at the St. Vincent de Paul Healthcare Center in Berlin after a long illness. He was born in Manchester, NH, on April 20, 1929 and was raised in Gorham, NH. After his marriage, he moved to Berlin where he has since resided. He was a member of St. Anne Church, now known as Good Shepherd Parish, a Life Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Fur, Feather and Fin Club, a Life Member of the NRA, a Life Member of the American Hunting Club and the Army National Guard for six years. Mr. Tremaine was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Members of the family include his wife of 54 years, Yvonne (Dubuc) Tremaine, of Berlin, NH; one daughter, Joyce Saucier and her husband Denis of Penacook, NH; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt. He was predeceased by his parents and a stepbrother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 3, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may make a donation in his memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Heathcare Center Activity Fund, 29 Providence Avenue, Berlin.

Albert J. E. Roger

BERLIN, NH--Albert J. E. Roger, 63, of 426 Church Street, Berlin, NH, passed away on Saturday evening Feb. 4, 2006 at the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin after a long illness. He was born in Berlin, NH, on Nov. 25, 1942, the son of Willie J. and Stella Marie (Albert) Roger, and was a lifelong resident. Albert attended St. Regis Academy in Berlin for several years and was a member of Good Shepherd Parish and was a communicant of St. Anne Church. Albert was a special needs person and congenitally blind. He had a knack of bringing out the best in everyone and enjoyed being with others. Albert was involved with the Community Services Center for several years and did odd jobs throughout the community. He loved to bowl and won many medals during his affiliation with Special Olympics. God needed a special angel by his side and called Albert to his eternal home. All who knew him were enriched, as he has touched many lives and will be missed by family and friends.
Members of the family include his mother Stella Roger of Berlin; a sister Cecile Labrecque and her husband George of Berlin; a niece Amy Ramsey and her husband Steve of Milan; a nephew, Mark Labrecque and his partner Maria Drake of Portsmouth; several uncles, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Willie J. Roger, in 1997.

Peter N. Willette

BERLIN, NH--Mr. Peter N. Willette, 52, of 104 Park Street, Berlin, NH, passed away suddenly on Saturday evening, Feb. 4, 2006 at his home. He was born in Berlin, NH, on March 9, 1953, the son of Alfred and Violet (Pare’) Willette and was a lifelong resident of Berlin and Gorham. Peter was an avid sports fan and co-owner and route driver for C & S Vending in Gorham.
Members of the family include his wife, Pauline (Morin) Willette of Berlin; two daughters, Nicole Eastman and her husband Derek of Gorham and Kelly Willette of Newport, RI; a son, Brian Willette of Berlin; his parents, Alfred and Violet (Pare’) Willette of Gorham; a brother, Robert Willette of Gorham; three sisters, Cecile Clark of Gorham, Diane Ballinger and Joan Willette, both of Portland, CT; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Jean Willette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon Feb. 7, at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Family Church in Gorham. Interment will be at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade Street, Gorham, on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the church mass. Anyone who wishes may make a donation to the American Heart Association in his memory.

Charlotte Gendron

BERLIN - Funeral services for Charlotte “Tot” Gendron, 77, of 11 Dustin Street, Berlin, and Apollo Beach, Fla., were held on July 14, 2006, at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Reverend Peter Boucher.
Her grandsons Zack, Nathan, Blake, Pierce and Cole Gendron presented single, long-stemmed roses to their Memere on the table. The readings and intercession were read by Zack, Blake and Nathan Gendron. The offertory gifts were brought forward by Pierce and Cole Gendron. The eulogy was given by her sons Barry and Wayne. Irene Oleson, a close personal friend of Mrs. Gendron, was the altar server. Patti Berube served as cantor accompanied by Doris Clinch on the organ.
Interment was in St. Kieran Cemetery with Rev. Boucher reading the committal prayers. Relatives and friends attended the serve from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Washington.

Mr. Donnie D. Beaulier

BERLIN - Mr. Donnie D. Beaulier, 63, of 637 Western Avenue, Berlin, died Tuesday July 18, 2006, at his home. He was born in Mars Hill, Maine, on July 15, 1943, the son of George and Shirley (Pelletier) Beaulier.
He was employed by Bostik for 33 years in Middleton, Mass. and retired in 1995. He resided in Londonderry for 13 years and has lived in Berlin for the past five years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Berlin and was of the Roman Catholic faith. The hobbies he enjoyed include fishing, fly tying, projects around his house, woodworking, camping, horseshoes and darts.
Members of the family include his wife, JoAn (O’Clair) Beaulier of Berlin; a son, Steven Beaulier of Hillsboro; a daughter, Kathleen Powers of Derry; a stepson, William Walton of Tuszon, Ariz.; grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly, Stephanie, Kyle, Brytanie, Natalia, Tricia, Amanda, Victoria and Sophia; his father, George Beaulier of Salem, Mass.; a brother, Duane Beaulier of Danvers, Mass.; a sister, Darla Benson of Portage, Maine; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother; a grandson, Steven Holdsworth; a daughter, Julie Desrosiers; and a stepson, Jason Walton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. There will be no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to AVH Home Health and Hospice, 59 Page Hill Road, Berlin, NH, 03570.

Yonne D. Madore

BERLIN - Yvonne Dolores Madore, 54, of 592 Rockingham Street, Berlin, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Lewiston, Maine, on May 21, 1952, the daughter of Raoul and Juliette (Collin) Devoe. She lived in Lewiston for many years and resided in Errol before moving to Berlin several years ago.
Members of her family include one son, Gary Madore of Livermore Falls, Maine, eight grandchildren and one brother, James Devoe of Lewiston, Maine.
There will be no services and no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
The Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin is in charge of the arrangements.

Norman P. Gagnon

BERLIN -- A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Norman P. Gagnon on Monday August 7, 2006 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish following recitation of prayers at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High St., Berlin.
Father Peter Boucher celebrated the Mass including the reading of committal prayers. The pall was placed by his grandchildren Stacie Lamontagne, Jonathan, Timothy and Steven Baldassare, the cross was placed by his wife Pauline Gagnon. The readings were done by Debbie Vaillancourt, Raymond Baillargeron and Father Peter Boucher. Betty and Raymond Baillargeron placed the offertory gifts. The Eulogy was done by his son-in-law Howard Chase. Denise Sanschgrin served as cantor accompanied by Sue Ramsey on the organ. Interment was in Russian City Cemetery.
A delegation from The Berlin Firefighters Association Active and Retired, and VFW and Marine League Detail Louie Perreault, Arnold Wagner, Leo Gagnon and Dick L'Heureux. Bugler was Ron Goyette. A Military Detail from the Marine Corp. included Sgt. Edward Cunningham, Sgt. Jacob Alfasno and Sgt. Jason Phair who performed the flag folding ceremonies.
The pallbearers included Firefighters, Retired Chief Paul Croteau, Captain Gary Coulombe, Assistant Chief Bob Goudreau, and firefighters Roland Berthiaume, Ray Dube and Peter Donavan.
There were numerous local and out-of-town family members and friends who attended the services and among them were from Mass., Vt., Conn., and Arizona.

John L. Emerson

John L. Emerson died peacefully at home on Feb. 8, 2006, at 10:30 p.m. He was born at the National Homeopathic Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 12, 1947.
He grew up with his loving stepfather, Burt, who was a Marine serving as a combat photographer in four wars, and his mother Eileen who worked many years at the Pentagon. The "best year of his life" was the junior high school year spent in Gorham, N.H., with his grandparents. While his heart was in the N.H. White Mountains, he and his parents traveled the country and to Japan, where he spent his high school years. He joined the Air Force when he graduated from high school and served in Vietnam. John worked for the USPS in Portland, Maine.
He studied geology and cartography at the University of Southern Maine and George Washington University. He loved reading and learning. He rode motorcycles, drove tractor trailers, did carpentry and showed dairy goats, while always enjoying the company of good friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed whitewater kayaking, camping, mountain biking, cross-country, teli and downhill skiing and snowboarding. John tried everything he could at least once including aikido and rock climbing at White Horse Ledge. John loved animals, learning to play many instruments, and sharing those instruments with friends. He especially loved living on the river and kayaking all over the country with his friends in the Mount Washington Valley Paddlers Club and Merrimack Valley Paddlers Club.
John is loved by his wife and kayak partner, Brenda; his daughter, Kathryn Noelle; his stepson, Jeremiah; stepdaughter, Hannah; his best friend, Nancy; and many other special and wonderful friends who will miss this kindhearted, loving and generous soul. His wish for all the people he loved is to "feel the freedom of living, loving and playing hard. This life is short and must be enjoyed daily."
A prayer circle for John will be held by the river at his home on Sat. Feb. 10 at noon. .
A celebration of John's life and dedication of the "Emerson Put In at Limington Rips" will be held on May 20, 2007.
There will also be a memorial paddle at Northern Waters Campground in Errol and the Dead River on Memorial Day weekend. A mass will be said for John on March 4, 2007 at the Holy Family Church, 5 Church Street, Gorham, NH, 03581. Telephone: 466-2335
