Thomas C. "Tom" Gouin

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Thomas C. "Tom" Gouin, 48, of 157 Richards Ave., were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Saturday. Daniel J. King, past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #97 of Portsmouth, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Tom's brother, Jack J.A. Gouin.

In attendance were members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodges #97 of Portsmouth, #146 of Manchester, #184 of Dover, #720 of Nashua, #1210 of Concord, #2226 of Derry-Salem, and #1393 of Rochester, and representatives from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Pro Portsmouth, and the Portsmouth Recreation Department.

Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks services were held at the Chapel on Saturday evening by Portsmouth Lodge #97. The following officers conducted the Elks memorial service: Stephen J. Hal McLane

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Hal McLane, 61, of New Canaan, Conn., and formerly of Portsmouth, were held on Saturday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth, with services at the North Congregational Church Chapel. The Rev. Dawn Shippee, pastor, officiated. Friends and family celebrating Hal's life were John Selleck, Elaine Foster, Sharon LaRochelle, David Palfrey and Marc Cardwell. Wendell Purington was soloist and Gary MacDonald was the organist.

In attendance were members of the church; St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM of Portsmouth; and St. James Lodge No. 102 F&AM of Hampton.

Masonic services were held at the church by St. Andrew's Lodge No. 56 F&AM including Wor. Philip Fraser, worshipful master; Wor. Nelson Hersey, chaplain; Wor. Knute Lundgren, senior warden; Wor. Edward Conway, junior warden; Wor. Thomas LaBerge, marshall; Wor. Brian Sanderson, senior deacon; and from St. James Lodge No. 102 of Hampton, Wor. David Lamprey.

Willis S. Bardwell

YORK, Maine - Willis S. Bardwell, 92, of Long Sands Road, husband of Irene (Sprague) Bardwell, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at York Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 11, 1908, in York, the son of Dwight and E. Gertrude (Weeks) Bardwell, and graduated from York High School in 1926.

In 1924 he began working at the York Harbor Reading Room. He worked there for 45 years, 21 as manager, before retiring in 1970.

He was also employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II.

He was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church of York, a life member of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge No. 198 AF&AM, and a life member of the York Country Club.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Elsie (Young) Bardwell, in 1975; a son, John Dwight Bardwell III in 1996; and a sister, Olive Fernald in 1966.

Survivors include his second wife, Irene (Sprague) Bardwell of York; one son, David Bardwell and his wife, Geraldine, of York; two stepdaughters, Katharine Howard of Kittery and Linda Louk of West Virginia; five grandchildren, J. Dwight Bardwell IV of York, Melissa Wood of Kittery, Susanne Morgan of York Beach, Vickie Witham of Wells, and Linda Bardwell of York Beach; and nine great-grandchildren.

BARDWELL - Willis S. Bardwell of Long Sands Road, York, Maine, died Jan. 28, 2001, at York Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Parish Congregational Church, York Street, York. There are no visiting hours. Spring interment in First Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the York Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 238, York, ME 03909. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Clarence Joseph "Joe" Young

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Clarence Joseph "Joe" Young, 65, of 117 Holly Lane, were held at the J Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Saturday. Retired Salvation Army Major Jack Ryan officiated.

In attendance were members of the Portsmouth Fire Department and former associates from the City of Portsmouth Water Department.

A fire truck from the Portsmouth Fire Department led the procession past Central Fire Station. The last call was sounded.

Bearers were Deputy Fire Chief Steve Achilles and firefighters Ted Blood III, David Bohne, Todd Germain, Brett Nelson and Chris May.

American Legion services were held at the Chapel on Friday evening by Frank E. Booma Post #6, conducted by Mary Pento, junior vice commander; Mike Richard, chaplain; Don Poisson, senior vice commander; and Richard Brooks, adjutant.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Barrington, N.H., in the spring.

Willis S. Bardwell

YORK, Maine - Willis S. Bardwell, 92, of Long Sands Road, husband of Irene (Sprague) Bardwell, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at York Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1908, in York, the son of J. Dwight and E. Gertrude (Weeks) Bardwell, and graduated from York High School in 1926.

In his teens he began caddying at the York Golf Course.

Ray A. Hinds Jr.

NEW CASTLE - Ray A. Hinds Jr., 70, of 5 Portsmouth Ave., died on Jan. 25, 2001, at his home, after a lengthy illness.

Born on July 11, 1930, in Milton, Mass., he was the son of the late Ray and Harriette (Tinker) Hinds. He was formerly of Milton, Mass. - where he graduated from high school - Wellesley, Attenborough, Acton, and Harwich Port, Mass., and Hopkinton, N.H. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1952. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

From 1966 to 1976, he was a manager of nuclear materials at Yankee Atomic Electric Company in Westborough, Mass., and then until 1980 he worked as purchasing manager for New England Electric System, also in Westborough. From 1980 until retirement he was the director of fuel procurement and supply for Public Service of New Hampshire in Manchester.

Family members include his wife of 46 years, Joanne E. (Fowle) Hinds; two daughters, Judith E. Mikami, of Newmarket, and Holly E. Robbertz, of Stratham; five grandchildren; and one sister, Ellen L. McGrath, of Avon, Mass. He was predeceased by one son, Daniel A. Hinds, and one brother, Caryl E. Hinds.

HINDS - Ray A. Hinds Jr., 70, of 5 Portsmouth Ave., New Castle, died on Jan. 25, 2001. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1035 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, with a reception to follow at New Castle Congregational Church Parish Hall, 65 Main St., New Castle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chaplains Department, Massachusetts General Hospital, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114; or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Marjorie J. Woodworth

KITTERY POINT, Maine - Marjorie J. Woodworth, 50, of Old Farm Road, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born April 1, 1950, in Ohio, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Blankinship. Early in her childhood she and her family moved to Dover, where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1968 from Dover High School.

She furthered her education at Plymouth State College and taught kindergarten for a time before becoming a private day-care provider. She enjoyed children, especially her own; she devoted her life to ensuring that her family was provided with a good and loving home. She was fond of gardening and her trips to Walt Disney World. She was a member of the Second Christian Congregational Church in Kittery.

She is survived by her husband, Vance Woodworth of Kittery Point; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Blankinship of Rochester; her two children, Adam and Emily Woodworth of Kittery Point; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

WOODWORTH - Marjorie J. Woodworth, 50, of Old Farm Road in Kittery Point, Maine, died Jan. 29, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. A funeral will be held at the Second Christian Congregational Church in Kittery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001. Friends and family may call today, Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, Maine 03904. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine 03904.

Sarah R. Kimmons

PORTSMOUTH - Sarah R. Kimmons, 67, the widow of Emmanuel Tubbins Sr., of 40 Bedford Way, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born in Gardo, Ala., on Feb. 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Jessie Mae (Goings) Cooks.

She was formerly employed at Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth and the Dover Rehabilitation Center as a CNA.

Survivors include her children, Dortha Sykes of Portsmouth, James Townsend of Somersworth, Susie Young Clooney of Dover, Edwin Emmanuel Tubbins of Dover, and Sonnita Kimmons of Tampa, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna R. Cohill of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Roy Cooks and Lloyd Cooks, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

KIMMONS - Sarah R. Kimmons, 67, of 40 Bedford Way, Portsmouth, died Jan. 29, 2001. Funeral services will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church, Peverly Hill Road, Portsmouth, at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held at the church one hour prior to the services, from 10 to 11 a.m. Arrangements are by the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.

Dorothy I. Lamothe

FALL RIVER, Mass. - Dorothy I. (Landry) Lamothe, 89, the wife of Lionel "Leo" A. Lamothe, of The Landmark, 400 Columbia St., Fall River, Mass., formerly of Townsend Apartments, Fall River, Mass., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Fall River.

Born Sept. 27, 1911, in Natick, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Marie (Rousseau) Landry.

She had been a homemaker all of her life. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish all of her life and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne's Sodality.

Besides her husband, survivors include one daughter, Vivian Pelletier of Portsmouth, N.H.; one son, Gerard "Jerry" Lamothe of Tiverton, R.I.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Germaine Trenholme.

LAMOTHE - Dorothy I. (Landry) Lamothe, of The Landmark, 400 Columbia St., Fall River, Mass., died Jan. 29, 2001. A funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. on Friday at the Boule Funeral Home, 615 Broadway (Route 138), Fall River, Mass., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, Fall River, Mass. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, Mass. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in her name to the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Massachusetts, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Edward J. Brennan

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - Edward J. Brennan, 89, of 19 North Atkinson St., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (MacKinnon) Brennan, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Born in Newburyport on Dec. 18, 1911, he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Hannah L. (Casey) Brennan.

He was employed by the former First National Stores on State Street in Newburyport, where he was a manager of the produce department.

He was also employed by the former Cushman's Bakery as a route salesman for 25 years. He retired from the Newburyport Superior Court, where he was a custodian.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. Jr. and Carol Brennan of Newburyport; two daughters and sons-in-law, June E. and James McGregor of Newburyport, and Kathleen and Robert Dockham of Stratham, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Eileen Brennan Pramberg, Timothy Brennan, AnnMarie Brennan Leary, Michael Brennan, Kim McGregor and Lisa McGregor, all of Newburyport, and Keith Dockham and Shawn Dockham, both of Stratham, N.H.; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Daniel Brennan, John Brennan, M. Marion Patten, Ellen Brennan, Catherine Connors and Louise Brennan.

James (Jim) Paul Farezoco

PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. - James (Jim) Paul Farezoco, of 1020 Knobview Lane, died Jan. 24, 2001. He passed away while on vacation in Winter Garden, Fla.

He was born Sept. 27, 1939, in Massachusetts.

After serving in the Navy, he worked for several electronic and computer companies in Massachusetts. He retired from Hewlett Packard Computer Co. in Exeter, N.H., as a plant manager in 1993, and moved to Pilot Mountain.

He was a member of the Good Shephard Catholic Church in King, and at the time of his death was the grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in King.

He is survived by his wife, Marion (Hallgren); a brother, Lloyd Farren of Whitefield, N.H.; a daughter, Doreen Massengale of Mauldin, S.C.; a son, David of Greenville, S.C.; stepsons, David Carroll of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Damon Carroll of Davie, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Donald.

He lived the Serenity prayer for the last 35 years of his life. They say if you have one true friend at the time of death, your life was a success. The many friends he had through life are evidence that his life is complete.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in King.

Wendell B. O'Connor

NORTH HAMPTON - Wendell B. O'Connor, 64, of 36 Lovering Road, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the Exeter Hospital.

He was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, April 8, 1936, the son of the late Burton A. and Maria (Flowers) O'Connor.

He lived for many years in North Hampton and worked as a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was the husband of the late Freida G. (Booker) O'Connor, who died in 1999.

Family members include three sons, Robert B. O'Connor and his wife Tami of Berwick, Maine, Leroy W. O'Connor of Exeter, and Burton E. O'Connor and his wife Vicki of South Berwick, Maine; one daughter, Karin Gowin and her husband Douglas, of Mechanicsville, Va.; seven grandchildren; two brothers, David O'Connor of California and Jack O'Connor of N.B., Canada; three sisters, Betty Warren of Tennessee, Mary O'Connor of Pennsylvania and Norma Jerald of New York; and several nieces and nephews.

O'CONNOR - Wendell B. O'Connor of 36 Lovering Road, North Hampton, died Feb. 1, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton.
